Quartz.NET uses the Common.Logging framework for all of its logging needs. If you navigate to the directory where Quartz.Net Windows Service is installed (I have the service installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Quartz.net, you can find out the location by looking at the properties of the service) and open ‘Quartz.Server.exe.config’ you’ll see that the Quartz.Net is already set up for logging to ConsoleAppender and EventLogAppender, but only ‘ConsoleAppender’ is set up as active. So, no logging will be done to EventLog. More over the RollingFileAppender isn’t setup at all. So, Quartz.Net will not log to an application trace log file. 02 – Configuring Quartz.Net windows service for logging to eventlog, file, console, etc Let’s change this behaviour by changing the config file… In the below config file, I have added the RollingFileAppender. This will configure Quartz.Net service to write to a log file. (<appender name="GeneralLog" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender">) I have specified the location for the log file (<arg key="configFile" value="Trace/application.log.txt"/>) I have enabled the EventLogAppender and RollingFileAppender to be written to by Quartz. Net windows service Changed the default level of logging from ‘Info’ to ‘All’. This means all activity performed by Quartz.Net Windows service will be logged. You might want to tune this back to ‘Debug’ or ‘Info’ later as logging ‘All’ will produce too much data to the logs. (<level value="ALL"/>) Since I have changed the logging level to ‘All’, I have added applicationSetting to remove logging log4Net internal debugging. • Architecture design with MyBatis mappers

  I am creating rest web service for providing data. I am using Spring MVC for handling rest requests, and MyBatis for data access. Application should be designed in the way that it should be easy to change the data access implementation (for example to hibernate or something else) and it has to be fast (so I am trying to avoid unnecessary overcomplication of design). Now my question is about the general design of layers. I would normally use DAO interface and then different implementations for different data access strategies, but MyBatis uses interfaces to access the data. So I can think of 2 possible models but I am not sure which one is better or if there is any other nice way: Controller layer - uses Service layer interfaces services are then implemented for each data access stretegy - for example for mybatis: service implementation uses Mapper classes to access data and do whatever it needs to do with them and sends them to controller layer Controller layer - uses Service layer - service layer uses DAO interfaces DAOs are then implemented for each data access strategy - for example for mybatis: DAO class uses mapper interface to access data and sends them to service layer, service layer then do whatever it needs to do with them and sends them to controller layer I prefer the first strategy as it seems to be less complicated, but then I would have to write all of the service code for another data access again. Now Microsoft developed a tool "ULS Viewer" to view those Log files in easily readable format. This tools also helps to filter events based on exception priority.   My application runs on IBM WebSphere 6.1 Network Deployment. The application have several JSP files and Java classes. Today each host have only one JVM instance but my intention is to start another instance on each host. How can I configure log4j to log to different files for each JVM instance in the same host? I thought of using variable substitution on log4j XML configuration file but it only works with system properties. So, it is safe and recommended to set a custom system property just to store the JVM name? Anyone knows another strategy to achieve this in a 'elegant' way?

  I wish to export from multiple nodes log files (in my case apache access and error logs) and aggregate that data in batch, as a scheduled job. I have seen multiple solutions that work with streaming data (i.e think scribe). I would like a tool that gives me the flexibility to define the destination. This requirement comes from the fact that I want to use HDFS as the destination. I have not been able to find a tool that supports this in batch. Before re-creating the wheel I wanted to ask the StackOverflow community for their input. If a solution exists already in python that would be even better.

I found some resources but they are related to real! hardware rs232 ports, i can't find any information about USB converter. Right now i have established connection between that usb-serial port and my laptop (i can send text writing to port cp sometext.txt /dev/ttyUSB0 and read using hyperterminal). Any idea ? Regards

  For performance testing, I would like to capture some traffic from a production server and use that as a basis to replay the request to a test server in order to simulate a realistic load in our development environment. These are all stateless queries, so no issues regarding cookies, sessions, etc. The Apache log timestamps everything down to a 1 second resolution, but that's not fine enough granularity for our peak times. What's the best way to capture more fine-grained timestamps for replay? And is there some ab-like load generating program that can use this data to replicate load?

  I would like to check a large number of HTML files with inline JavaScript for JavaScript errors. What I'm envisioning doing is this: Script a browser to load a given page, wait a few seconds, and finally check the browser logs. I'm unsure though both on how to script a browser to load a given page and on how to access the JavaScript error log. I think the type of errors I'm worried about should show up in any modern browser so I would just go with whatever makes it most convenient. I'd be working either under Mac OS X or Linux. Anybody already tackle a similar problem? I've thought a bit about hacking something together based on a unit testing framework -- generate a trivial (assertTrue(true)) test for each page and rely on the errors making it fail -- but I'm hoping for something more elegant.   My teacher has given me as an assignment to log into gmail and then send one e-mail or read the list of unread e-mails, but I can't use IMAP/POP3/SMTP or anything that isn't HTTP or HTTPS. I've tried looking for libraries in Ruby/Java to do it but nothing really worked for me. I tried looking at the gmail source code page but I couldn't really understand what was going on. The page seems to call a post method on a link, but sniffing the packets what I saw was a GET apparently using a session generated using the info I send. So sending it "raw" didn't work either. I've no idea what to do now.

• how do I filter RoutingErrors and their long stack trace out of my log? rails

  I am seeing several strange requests like this, with urls like /sitemap/, /google_sitemap.xml.gz, /sitemap.xml.gz, /google_sitemap.xml, /cgi-bin/awstat/awstats.pl, etc. The default rails behavior dumps these long stack traces into my log, like the following: ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/rails/info/properties" with {:method=>:get}): /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/rack/request_handler.rb:92:in `process_request' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_request_handler.rb:207:in `main_loop' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/railz/application_spawner.rb:400:in `start_request_handler' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/railz/application_spawner.rb:351:in `handle_spawn_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/utils.rb:184:in `safe_fork' etc. Is there any way to stop these long stack traces? I wouldn't mind the first line, the ActionController::RoutingError with the message and the url, but I'd like to get rid of the long stack of passenger stuff.

Any other way to do so? I really just want a single site-wide error file to check, rather than one on each sub-directory. For bonus marks, can I send myself an email each time a new entry is added to the file? Left as an exercise for the reader - can I ignore some "errors" which aren't really?

  I have a x.jar which is being used by some client y.jar. Both x.jar and y.jar are at the same package level. i have put the log4j.xml at the same package level. But the log file is never generated. Can i know why? I have tried few other options as well but no luck till now. i have added log4j-1.2.16.jar to ClassPath: variable in manifest files of both x.jar and y.jar. Put log4j.xml at the class level of y.jar which actually calls the x.jar classes. package structure is as follows: x.jar --manifest.mf has a entry ClassPath:log4j-1.2.16.jar y.jar --manifest.mf has a entry ClassPath:log4j-1.2.16.jar log4j-1.2.16.jar log4j.xml --has a RollingFileAppender. Can any one suggest whether i am missing anything?

• How to log the raw SQL from Oracle occi C++ api?

  One of our customers is complaining our application is not working. Their reasoning is that our sql function call to their Oracle database is not getting the "expected" result. Sometime, it should failed but our application get success from their database. It's really frustrating because it's their database and we cannot do any test on it. We are using the C++ Oracle OCCI API. Is there anyway we can log the raw sql from our end? That will be very helpful and we can ship the script to them and let them debug in their system to figure out the problem. Thanks in advance.

  I have a constructor that has a series of classes and functions within it - in each function I check if the param is set to show the error and output if so. Like so using an inline if. The issue and question is short of keeping two versions is this approach not wise in that each IF has to be evaluated thus adding to the time it takes to perform? debugSlide = (bag.debug==1)? console.log("item id =" + bag.itemId) : 0; How do you do this?   We're currently rewriting our organizations ASP.NET MVC application which has been written twice already. (Once MVC1, once MVC2). (Thank god it wasn't production ready and too mature back then). This time, anyhow, it's going to be the real deal because we'll be implementing more and more features as time passes and the testruns with MVC1 and MVC2 showed that we're ready to upscale. Until now we were using Controller and Action authorization with AuthorizeAttribute's. But that won't do it any longer because our views are supposed to show different results based on the logged in user. Use Case: Let's say you're a major of a city and you login to a federal managed software and you can only access and edit the citizens in your city. Where you are allowed to access those citizens via an entry in a specialized MajorHasRightsForCity table containing a MajorId and a CityId. What I thought of is something like this: Public ViewResult Edit(int cityId) { if(Access.UserCanEditCity(currentUser, cityId) { var currentCity = Db.Cities.Single(c => c.id == cityId); Return View(currentCity); } else { TempData["ErrorMessage"] = "Yo are not awesome enough to edit that shizzle!" Return View(); } The static class Access would do all kinds of checks and return either true or false from it's methods. This implies that I would need to change and edit all of my controllers every time I change something. (Which would be a pain, because all unit tests would need to be adjusted every time something changes..) Is doing something like that even allowed?

• How can I access the group of a linq group-by query from a nested repeater control?

  I'm using a linq group by query (with two grouping parameters) and would like to use the resulting data in a nested repeater. var dateGroups = from row in data.AsEnumerable() group row by new { StartDate = row["StartDate"], EndDate = row["EndDate"] }; "data" is a DataTable from an SqlDataAdapter-filled DataSet. "dateGroups" is used in the parent repeater, and I can access the group keys using Eval("key.StartDate") and Eval("key.EndDate"). Since dateGroups actually contains all the data rows grouped neatly by Start/End date, I'd like to access those rows to display the data in a child repeater. To what would I set the child repeater's DataSource? I have tried every expression in markup I could think of; I think the problem is that I'm trying to access an anonymous member (and I don't know how.) In case it doesn't turn out to be obvious, what would be the expression to access the elements in each iteration of the child repeater? Is there an expression that would let me set the DataSource in the markup, or will it have to be in the codebehind on some event in the parent repeater?
