• SharePoint Conference 2012–How To Find Me

- by MOSSLover
Hey guys I will be at the conference if you don’t follow me on twitter and you want to find me. Look around the Women in SharePoint area in the Community Lounge. If you don’t find me at the Community Lounge then I would say try to look at the Planet Technologies booth for me. If you don’t find me in that booth then try Booth #22 the SharePoint Pavilion. If I’m not in any of these places I’m either in a session, sleeping, running, or wearing a cloaking device. You can ask me all kinds of questions about Planet, Women in SharePoint, and such. I can try to answer the questions as best I can or direct you to someone smarter. See you all at SPC 12! • Speaking at SharePoint Saturday Cincinnati

- by Enrique Lima
I will be not only attending SPS Cincinnati, but also speaking. And I am very happy and excited about it! The topic: The difference between learning and training: Creating a SharePoint based Learning Management System The description: Training and learning have been defined as synonyms by many organizations. The difference is, training has focused on a classic and traditional model. Learning on the other hand, refers to achieving something from the receiving side of the story, not just delivery. In focusing on driving adoption it is important to have a strategy where learning is also part of the plan. This session focuses on how to create a SharePoint Learning Plan, and how to deliver the plan through the implementation of a Learning Management System. Come join us! More information about SharePoint Saturday Cincinnati can be found here: http://sharepointsaturday.org/cincinnati/default.aspx

• After upgrading to 12.04 lts server, the mouse is intermittently working

- by Jason
After this upgrade, I've had a problem with the mouse intermittently working and programs crashing (like zentyal crashing and the error reporting application crashing) I also had an error on the screen that said: "Could not grab your mouse. A malisious client may be eavesdropping on your session or you may have just clicked a menu or some application just decided to get focus. Try again." What's going on with this system? Did I really get malware that quickly? This system has been boxed up since 2011. I only did the upgrade today... In regards to the mouse I can move it around, but when I click on something, it doesn't work.

• That's all about nuances

- by user13334359
When I sent a proposal for session "Managing and Troubleshooting MySQL for Oracle DBAs" to MySQL Connect conference org committee it had not any mention of Oracle in its name, but later I was asked to provide more details for former Oracle DBAs who want to use MySQL. I was fast and I said "yes".So my original aim to teach people to troubleshoot MySQL changed to teaching of how different is MySQL from Oracle in troubleshooting aspects. Although both RDBMs have very much in common they are definitely very different. So what I am going to speak about this time is nuances of how MySQL stores data, how it manages locks, why its high availability solutions: MySQL Cluster and Replication have same names as Oracle's, but work differently and more. And, of course, I will tell how to troubleshoot it all.

Source : http://developer.apple.co...

• How to load kernel from live cd on UEFI install of Ubuntu 12.10?

- by Geezanansa
Running a GYGABYTE FM1 motherboard which is using a AMD 3870k APU with a new WS Caviar 1TB HDD. Following the advice in the Motherboard manual and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI have now got to grub screen for UEFI install. The dvd.iso being used is Ubuntu 12.10 desktop amd64. The hdd has had a gpt partition table made for, by using gparted when in a live desktop session(booted in bios mode)but decided to leave it unformatted with the intention of using installer to set up partitions. Booting live dvd gives grub list with the option to "install ubuntu" but get "can not read cd/0" and "the kernel must be loaded first" errors; when that option is selected. Any pointers on how to get installer going for UEFI install would be good. Thanks in advance.

• Ubuntu 14.04 Fatal Exception

- by user286534
I use Ubuntu 14.04, 64-bit. I installed Virtualbox and was testing another Linux OS (Deepin). My system froze and I could not get to a TTY session to reboot. I had to do a hard restart and when Ubuntu restarted I got various error codes one of which was "kernel panic - fatal exception in interrupt" Booting to Advance mode and attempting repairs did not work (fsck, grub repair, etc) I reinstalled Ubuntu and chose the option to keep my files intact. I can now access my system but many programs I have installed do not work. My question is; I have a Deja-Dup backup (but only of my Home directory), is it better to restore my backup files or do I have to reinstall all of my programs? The weird thing is, the programs I verified using the Software Center to see if they were installed are checked as installed, but won't appear in Dash.

• Screencast: "Unlocking the Java EE Platform with HTML5"

- by Geertjan
The Java EE platform aims to increase your productivity and reduce the amount of scaffolding code needed in Java enterprise applications. It encompasses a range of specifications, such as JPA, EJB, JSF, and JAX-RS. How do these specifications fit together in an application, and how do they relate to each other? And how can HTML5 be used to leverage Java EE? In this recording of a session I did last week at Oredev in Malmo, Sweden, you learn how Java EE works and how it can be integrated with HTML5 front ends, via HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

• Windows Embedded Compact 7 in Padua

- by Valter Minute
Yesterday I did a presentation about Windows CE at the University of Padua Even if the picture seems to suggest that I just showed and empty slide, I illustrated the new features of the OS and did a quick demo of Silverlight for Windows Embedded on Windows Embedded Compact 7 (I’ve to get used to this new name), showing the new tools that provide a better integration between Expression Blend and Visual Studio for the development of Silverlight applications (I hope to be able to write more on this topic soon!). The Operating System was running on some real hardware (TI OMAP3530 evaluation board) and many people had a chance to interact with the new customizable shell. Most of the 60 people attending were still awake at the end of the one hour and a half session, and some of them even asked questions! I would like to thank all the people attending and all the people of Arrow, Fortech Embedded Labs and the University of Padua that made this event possible and provide me the tool and the time to do this presentation. • How safe is ubuntu?

- by VJo
Last week I started desktop sharing using krfb. Since I continue last session, this program keep on starting again. Two days ago I noticed messages poping up saying something like "rejecting uninvited connection from (some ip)", but today I figured it might be because of this and I was right. The krfb was running in the background. Hence the question. How safe is ubuntu? Should I expect someone to connect to my computer and erase everything I got on disk? EDIT To extend my question : how safe it is comparing to other OSs (windows, mac,...)? How safe it is comparing to other distros?
