  • Getting Started Plugging into the "Find in Projects" Dialog

    In case you missed it amidst all the code in yesterday's blog entry, the "Find in Projects" dialog is now pluggable. I think that's really cool. The code yesterday gives you a complete example, but let's break it down a bit and deconstruct down to a very simple hello world scenario. We'll end up with as many extra tabs in the "Find in Projects" dialog as we need, for example, three in this case:  And clicking on any of those extra tabs will, in this simple example, simply show us this: Once we have that, we'll be able to continue adding small bits of code over the next few blog entries until we have something more useful.   • Unable to remove some unity lenses

    I removed the files, video, photos and friends lenses with the following command. sudo apt-get purge unity-lens-files unity-lens-video unity-lens-photos unity-lens-friends Although the corresponding results have disappeared from dash, only the friends tab has been removed. There still are tabs for files, video and photos, albeit empty. How do I remove these empty tabs? I use Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander. I understand that this issue didn't exist in 12.04. The directory structure of unity lenses seems to have changed from 12.04 to 13.10. Earlier the lenses were stored in /usr/share/unity/lenses/.   • Tab navigation and double content

    I have a website in which i use tabs to navigate between pages. For example, page a displays A as an active tab and B and C background tabs. If the visitor gets to the website via page B, i also would like to display to page d, but not a and c. Question: I know i can just create index2 for b for example, so when the visitor gets to b from a, i display a,b,c and index1 when visitor gets to b from d for example. Is that a bad practice? I know double content isn't good, but in which other way can i or should i approach this problem? The tab navigation i designed uses < li and id tag do display active tab, defined in the < body tag.

    IE9 started a campaign for kill IE6 from the core because they know that IE6 is a big trouble or  problem for them for promote 9 version of IE. so they started a campaign for killing IE6. next time they kill IE 7 , 8,9 whenever they found this old version have a big problem for them to promote next version of IE.   Why they not make a update system who automatically update the browser and tell user to restart and update goes installed in the user system. well IE9 should learn from all other that they have very well design auto-update system who never give user in trouble that your browser goes old. Chrome and Firefox both update themselves and say user restart to enjoy another good version. in IE6 a big problem is that updates. no one sure that they installed new version of IE6 without any hassles and update goes install without any problem because they really know or care about “you need this to install this and this for this” so they thing “why I update IE whenever I am unsure that my browser goes update and I have no problem again” so they do nothing because their work done with no problem because common person used high profile application who work even in IE6. so they do nothing.    IE6 countdown website have designed a banner for warn or force user to upgrade to next version of IE. well there is no good reason for put the banner on website some of reason are:-   Windows 7 comes with pre-installed IE8 and Vista comes with upgrade version them IE6 so that is sure that you force a user who have Windows XP [luna] and if they want to upgrade IE then they can get IE8 not version 9 because IE9 is design for Windows 7 or Vista Service pack 2. so What is the use of update when user still have a outdate version too because IE8 is old version and not have any capability of HTML5 so forcing user by using the banner have no sense. I am not know why they all listed on website put the banner on their own website. it’s good that you offer user what they want instead of giving them a outdate version of IE again. My means to give a user list of browser they can try to enhance their browser experience instead of only IE.   IE9 build upon WPF and they spent more time on using WPF in IE instead of making user experience browser.  many thing is designed wrongly in IE first thing is tabs. the tabs in chrome are bigger and easily to move and same in Firefox even not have smooth tabbing. IE have same tabbing as chrome have but leak a point that it’s too small. if you really  want to move then sometime they create a problem that they going elsewhere from the current instance of IE.   Chrome have a big buttons, tabs and menu to enhance browser experience and Firefox have a good feature that you can make them bigger or small. you can put the icon for add-ons on the toolbar for easily use but IE have no relation with customization so we never can thinking about that.   When chrome provide lot’s of extensions and a  webstore for browser application and same feature in Firefox can be seen then there is no plugin in IE. really you can see their IE addons Website where no plugin listed for web development. even in the category or tag. as a response from many blog there is new for developer that new version of IE9 developer tool. well IE9 have three new tabs a blogger tell on their blog. when I trying them I found many thing but I still unable to edit the Css from the HTML tab and no plugin I found I can get to enhance IE9 web development. something more other provide never IE9 give me like personas , customization , browser extension or any other they used to tell a small thing customization  .   IE9 still have some problem with JavaScript that when I use Firefox and chrome and logout in both then my cookie is deleted but in IE it’s not done. it’s show me that IE9 still have different from other not for good thing even some bad thing too. When I trying to read a article that is written in Hindi using Unicode font I found that they show many thing misspelled. there is three Sha in Hindi but they all goes wrong in IE. the misprint thing is not that the writing  for the articles goes wrong. it’s problem or browser to rendering a font. the Firefox and chrome not give me this problem even opera render the font in italic style by decrease the font-size but all those work perfect.   in Pwn2Own the apple’s safari  and IE9 both are hacked. this is a awesome news for whose who thing that  open-source is lose in  Security and close-source is highly-secured software. well this is not a good parameter for talking about software. it’s should depend how much application tested and used. because more testing and more use of application make them better.   I  appreciate IE to making their new version 9 and good luck for them. there is a another matter that I personally found nothing on them.

  • Alternative to Firefox's Tab Groups feature for Chromium/Chrome

    Firefox keeps crashing the whole time on my Lubuntu 12.04 since version 12, I don't know why, I am running it on a Pentium IV desktop so might be CPU shortage, however I use the same set of extensions and configurations that I have on Windows' Firefox and it rarely crashes, runs smoothly and besides on Windows it can handle much more tabs opened before some freeze actually happens. Chromium is working better so far on Lubuntu, but I really do miss the Tab Groups Firefox feature, which is great to group tabs and organize them, it really is a boost on my productivity. Are you aware of any add-on which is similar for Chrome/Chromium? I've searched around on Chrome's Web Store but no luck at the moment.

  • How to restore "working folders" upon restart?

    I am not sure I am working the problem correctly but I will try my best. I am newbie to ubuntu and I am using Ubuntu 11.10. On a daily basis but I have a set of 5-10 folders which I need to refer for my work. I am looking for a way if I can create a "workspace" of these folders so that upon restart in a single click all the folders in the workspace can be opened in different tabs. Another option that I right now plan to use us create links of the folders and then select all of them and open in different tabs. Was wondering if there is a cleaner option already provided in ubuntu.

  • no such file to load -- rubygems (LoadError)

    Hello, I recently installed rails in fedora 12. I'm new to linux as well. Everything works fine on Windows 7. But I'm facing lot of problems in linux. Help please! I've installed all the essentials to my knowledge to get the basic script/server up and running. I have this error from boot.rb popping up when I try script/server. Some of the details I'd like to give here: The directories where rails, ruby and gem are installed, [vineeth@localhost my_app]$ which ruby /usr/local/bin/ruby [vineeth@localhost my_app]$ which rails /usr/bin/rails [vineeth@localhost my_app]$ which gem /usr/bin/gem And when I run the script/server, this is the error. [vineeth@localhost my_app]$ script/server ./script/../config/boot.rb:9:in `require': no such file to load -- rubygems (LoadError) from ./script/../config/boot.rb:9 from script/server:2:in `require' from script/server:2 And the PATH file looks like this [vineeth@localhost my_app]$ cat ~/.bash_profile # .bash_profile # Get the aliases and functions if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then . ~/.bashrc fi # User specific environment and startup programs PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin/ruby:$PATH" I suppose it is something to do with the PATH file.   • Convert Custom Firefox Setup to Firefox Portable?

    I have a pretty awesome firefox set up and spent a lot of time getting it perfect. Is there any way that anyone knows about to convert the entire configuration to portable? Programs like MozBackup are great for backing up the complete set up, but you can't restore a Firefox profile to Firefox portable (maybe there is a workaround to fake it out? or possibly another method?) In case anyone is interested here is the gist of the best add-ons I've found: Autopager (scroll down google and other multi page results without clicking next) Coral IE Tab (IE in firefox - in case a website 'insists' that you use IE) Cyber search (search google straight from the address bar - VERY HELPFUL) Download StatusBar (display progress of downloads in the bottom of ff - no annoying popups FireFTP (erases need for an external FTP client - opens in a tab) Gmail manager (if you use multiple gmail accounts) Session Manager (saving multiple sessions of tabs - ff session recover) Surf Canyon (pull relevant stuff out of the depths of search results - even from craigslist Tab Mix Plus (ESSENTIAL - tab behavior customization - have multiple rows of tabs I also have it set up so you can type 'g test' in the address bar and ff will pull up the google results for 'test'. Similarly have it set up for guitar tabs (tab), facebook (f), wikipedia (w), google maps from my house (gmhome), torrents (tor), ticketmaster (t), rotten tomatoes (rt), craiglist (c) plus about 20 other sites.

  • How to get desired FireFox last tab behavior?

    All tabs should be the same; so if any of the have a 'close' button, they all should, including the last tab. I see no reason that a tab's close button should suddenly vanish simply b/c that tab has become the last one open. If I have N tabs open, and park the mouse over the left-most tab's close button, this vanishing close button trick means now I have to make a large mouse move to get to the app's close button. Unsat. Mouse moves = too many milliseconds wasted. Closing the last tab should NOT take me to my home page, or any other page whatsoever. I want the browser to close with the last tab. I do not expect or want "new tab" behavior when I click a Close button. Now, I've gone into about:config and played with browser.tabs.closeWindoWithLastTab, but this setting oversteps its purpose; while it does make the browser close, for some inexplicable reason, it also suppresses the last tab's close button! I have tried the "last tab close button" add-on, and while this does restore the close button, the add-on oversteps by taking the liberty of turning closeWindowWithLastTab off. Is there some way out of this pickle? Is it too hard to just code things to provide simple, orthogonal actions, so that everybody can config the UI to their liking, and not just to a few pre-fab configurations that the developers think everyone should like? Btw, FF 13.0.1 on ms windows

  • Android: Replace a TabSpec Content

    I have a TabHost with a bunch of tabs each with a TabSpec. I'd like to change the content of one of the TabSpecs but I don't seem to be able to. I've read a few places that it's not possible to change the content of a TabSpec. Does anyone know why I can add/remove tabs but not change the content of them? And can anyone suggest a workaround for this problem?

    Hi, I have a Flex 4 TabBar component with a custom skin. In this skin, the item renderer is defined with an ButtonBarButton with a custom skin. All the tabs in the itemrenderer have now the same width. The client however wants me to make the tabs width dynamically, so a smaller tab for a smaller label, a bigger one for a long label. Does anybody know how to adjust the width of Tab (ButtonBarButton)? Thanks a million!

    Is there any way to speed up the Add Reference dialog? For example, has anyone found any way to open it by default in the Recent or Browse tabs (which is what I use 90% of the time), to avoid the other tabs' slowness?     Hi, I'm still not clear on how and when to use interface builder. I have a tabbar-based application, in which I added 6 navigations controllers. Instead of having 6 tabs, I would like 3 plus a "More" tab which allows the user to configure the tabs he wants. Is there any way to do that with IB ? And if not, how can I move from IB to a code-based tabbar (provided I already set up a class TabBarController which handles shouldAutoRotate:) Thanks in advance !
