  • Why can't I get Python's urlopen() method to work?

  • Centralized Credentials Service For Various Apps

    - by Vlad
We are researching the possibility to build a centralized credentials storage for internal applications. These apps (vb6, vb.net, web apps in asp.net, etc) are using various instances of SQL servers and iSeries. We want to implement a central credentials facility that would act as a security broker. Basically it should work like this: Client app supplies AppID (I am Sales Application) and EnvironmentID (I am running in QA environment) and in return will get either a connection object (preferred) or encrypted connection string that will allow said application to connect to resources it needs. There will be cases when application needs to connect to two (or more) database resources (i.e. to SQL and iSeries). What are looking at DP API at the moment, but I am not convinced that DP API is the solution as it tied in with machine key. In our case using machine key isn't feasible, so I want to know if there are other approaches available.

  • Can I connect to SQL Server using Windows Authentication from Java EE webapp?

    - by KG
I am currently investigating how to make a connection to a SQL Server database from my Java EE web application using Windows Authentication instead of SQL Server authentication. I am running this app off of Tomcat 6.0, and am utilizing the Microsoft JDBC driver. My connection properties file looks as follows: dbDriver = com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver dbUser = user dbPass = password dbServer = localhost:1433;databaseName=testDb dbUrl = jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433 I have zero problems with connecting to a SQL Server database in this fashion when using SQL Server authentication. Is there any way I can retrieve the credentials of the user's Windows Authentication and use that authentication for SQL Server? UPDATE: I know in ASP.net there is a way to set up Windows Authentication for access to the webapp, which is exactly what I am looking for, except I want to pass that token off to SQL Server for access to the database.

  • Server crash = How does a TCP/IP (and the browser-client) behave after this?

    - by jens
Hello Experts, i would be thankfull for an explanation what happens with HTTP(TCP/IP) transmissions when the server crashes unexpectedly, how does the client Browser (Firefox / IE) handle this event. What happens in the following two standard cases: Clients-actively sends data: The TCP/IP Connection has been estableshed and the Client (Web-Browser) is Sending a POST Request with some data and in the middle of the process of sending the server crashes. What does this mean for the client? As far as I know TCP/IP does not "acknowledge" a send data-package so the client does not know that the server crashed. How will the client behave? (Firefox and Internet Explorer)? The Server is actively sending data: As above the tcp/ip connection has been established and the Server is sending a large website to the client (browser). In the middle of the sending-process the server crashes, so no futher packets are sent. How does the client browser react to this event (Firefox and Interne Expolrer) Thank you very much!! Jens

  • Dynamic openrowset in T-Sql Function or viable alternative?

    - by IronicMuffin
I'm not quite sure how to phrase this. Here is the problem: I have 1-n items that I need to join to a different system (AS400) to get some data. The openrowset takes forever if I specify the where criteria outside of the openrowset, e.g.: select * from openrowset('my connection string', 'select code, myfield from myTable') where code = @code My idea was to create a function that takes in the item number and uses dynamic sql to inject it into the openrowset string, a la: declare @cmd varchar(1000) set @cmd = 'select * from openrowset('my connection string', ''select code, myfield from myTable where code = ' + @code + ''')' Apparently I can't use the insert.. exec.. strategy inside of a function. Is there any better way to achieve this? I was going to use this in joins where I needed the external data using cross apply. I'm not married to tvf and cross apply, but I do need a method of getting this data quickly. Thanks for any help.

  • Getting "Object is read only" error when setting ClientCredentials in WCF

    - by Paul Mrozowski
I have a proxy object generated by Visual Studio (client side) named ServerClient. I am attempting to set ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName/Password before opening up a new connection using this code: InstanceContext context = new InstanceContext(this); m_client = new ServerClient(context); m_client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "Sample"; As soon as the code hits the UserName line it fails with an "Object is read-only" error. I know this can happen if the connection is already open or faulted, but at this point I haven't called context.Open() yet. I have configured the Bindings (which uses netTcpBinding) to use Message as it's security mode, and MessageClientCredentialType is set to UserName. Any ideas?

  • CommunicationException in WCF

    - by user343159
Hi I have a problem with a WCF Service I've just created. This was working yesterday but for some reason it's just stopped working. One of my WCF methods returns an array of an Entity Framework entity, like this: public BranchContactDetail[] GetClosestBranches(string postcode, int howManyBranches) { GeoLocation geoLocation = GetLocationFromPostcode(postcode); Location location = new Location(geoLocation.Latitude, geoLocation.Longitude); using (BranchDirectoryEntities entities = new BranchDirectoryEntities()) { var branchesInOrder = entities.BranchContactDetails .Where(b => b.latitude.HasValue && b.longitude.HasValue ) .OrderBy(b => location.DistanceFrom(b.latitude, b.longitude)) .Take(howManyBranches) .ToArray(); return branchesInOrder; } } ...and, as I say, this was working fine yesterday. Now I'm getting a "The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly." I've hunted all over the web but no-one seems to know the answer. Anyone shed any light on this issue? Regards, Mark

  • Can Java ServerSocket and Sockets using ObjectIOStreams lose packets?

    - by Joel Garboden
I'm using a ServerSocket on my server and Sockets that use ObjectIOStreams to send serializable objects over the network connection. I'm developing an essentially more financial version of monopoly and thus packets being sent and confirmed as sent/received is required. Do I need to implement my own packet loss watcher or is that already taken care of with (Server)Sockets? I'm primarily asking about losing packets during network blips or whatnot, not full connection error. E.g. siblings move a lead plate between my router and computer's wi-fi adapter. http://code.google.com/p/inequity/source/browse/#svn/trunk/src/network Code can be found under network-ClientController and network-Server

  • Rails / ActiveRecord Modeling Help

    - by JM
I’m trying to model a relationship in ActiveRecord and I think it’s a little beyond my skill level. Here’s the background. This is a horse racing project and I’m trying to model a horses Connections over time. Connections are defined as the Horse’s Current: Owner, Trainer and Jockey. Over time, a horse’s connections can change for a lot of different reasons: The owner sells the horse in a private sale The horse is claimed (purchase in a public sale) The Trainer switches jockeys The owner switches trainers In my first attempt at modeling this, I created the following tables: Horses, Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Connections. Essentially, the Connections table was the has-many-through join table and was structured as follows: Connections Table 1 Id Horse_id Owner_id Trainer_id Jockey_id Status_Code Status_Date Change_Code The Horse, Owner, Trainer and Jockey foreign keys are self explanatory. The status code is 1 or 0 (1 active, 0 inactive) and the status date is the date the status changed. Change_code is and integer or string value that represent the reason for the change (private sale, claim, jockey change, etc) The key benefit of this approach is that the Connection is represented as one record in the connections table. The downside is that I have to have a table for Owner (1), Trainer (2) and Jockey (3) when one table could due. In my second attempt at modeling this I created the following tables: Horses, Connections, Entities The Entities tables has the following structure Entities Table id First_name Last_name Role where Role represents if the entity is a Owner, Trainer or Jockey. Under this approach, my Connections table has the following structure Connections Table 2 id Horse_id Entity_id Role Status_Code Status_Date Change_Code 1 1 1 1 1 1/1/2010 2 1 4 2 1 1/1/2010 3 1 10 3 1 1/1/2010 This approach has the benefit of eliminating two tables, but on the other hand the Connection is now comprised of three different records as opposed to one in the first approach. What believe I’m looking for is an approach that allows me to capture the Connection in one record, but also uses an Entities table with roles instead of the Owner, Trainer and Jockey tables. I’m new to ActiveRecord and rails so any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps there are other ways that would even be better. Thanks!

  • Matlab: Adding symbols to figure

    - by niko
Hi, Below is the user interface I have created to simulate LDPC coding and decoding The code sequence is decoded iteratively by passing values between the left and right nodes through the connections. The first thing it would be good to add in order to improve visualization is to add arrows to the connections in the direction of passing values. The alternative is to draw a bigger arrow at the top of the connection showing the direction. Another thing I would like to do is displaying the current mathematical operation below the connection (in this example c * H'). What I don't know how to do is displaying special characters and mathematical symbols and other kinds of text such as subscript and superscript in the figure (for example sum sign and subscript "T" instead of sign ="'" to indicate transposed matrix). I would be very thankful if anyone could point to any useful resources for the questions above or show the solution. Thank you.

  • Webserver parsing chrome input from post request

    - by ravenspoint
    I am developing a small embedded web server. I want to add parsing of post requests, but I am having a problem with input password fields from Chrome. Firefox and IE work perfectly. The HTML: <form action=start.webem method=post> <input value="START" type=submit /><!--#webem start --> <p>Password: <input TYPE=PASSWORD name=yourname AUTOCOMPLETE=OFF /><br> </form> From Firefox I get POST /stop.webem HTTP/1.1 Host: 127.0.0.1:8080 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100315 Firefox/3.5.9 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Referer: http://127.0.0.1:8080/ Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded Content-Length: 13 yourname=test However from Chrome, about 90% of the time, the yourname=test is missing POST /start.webem HTTP/1.1 Host: 127.0.0.1:8080 Connection: keep-alive User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.1.249.1045 Safari/532.5 Referer: http://127.0.0.1:8080/ Content-Length: 13 Cache-Control: max-age=0 Origin: http://127.0.0.1:8080 Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded Accept: application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8 Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3 Though, occasionally it does work!!!   • Examples of networked Flash games

    - by videodnd
Maybe I am asking the wrong questions, because I don't see any sample projects out there. I know Flash developers have done Kiosks and renovated arcade games. "Come on, we see Flash everywhere." Is there a sample project I could be pointed towards, it would be an ass-saver. Can I prepare my swf files like an image gallery and receive XML commands to load it? Where do I start? Flash/After Effects skills have got me through so far, but I need help!!! It would be fun if it wasn't so stressful. Criteria TCP/IP socket connection Flash package XML commands load swf file in to a container Additional Questions How do I prepare my Flash files and XML sheet to receive commands "any sample out there"? What about e.data, urlLoad, xmlSocket Class, XMLCP/IP XML socket connection to load Is binary or XML method better for loading and reloading swf files? Do I need Red5 or a media server? videoDnd, Ambitious Development Noob

  • Rails Unit Testing with MyISAM Tables

    - by tadman
I've got an application that requires the use of MyISAM on a few tables, but the rest are the traditional InnoDB type. The application itself is not concerned with transactions where it applies to these records, but performance is a concern. The Rails testing environment assumes the engine used is transactional, though, so when the test database is generated from the schema.rb it is imported with the same engine. Is it possible to over-ride this behaviour in a simple manner? I've resorted to an awful hack to ensure the tables are the correct type by appending this to test_helper.rb: (ActiveRecord::Base.connection.select_values("SHOW TABLES") - %w[ schema_info ]).each do |table_name| ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute("ALTER TABLE `#{table_name}` ENGINE=InnoDB") end Is there a better way to make a MyISAM-backed model be testable?

  • No network packets sent immediately after quick physical disconnect and reconnect.

    - by Hans
I am using Boost's ASIO libraries to establish a UDP connection to a remote server. To make sure the connection is active, every second a keep-alive message is sent to the server. I have noticed that if I unplug the network cable and reinsert it quickly, the first 2 or 3 keep-alive messages after the reinsert are never sent. I tested this by running wire-shark on the server. I have seen it take up to 5 seconds before the client starts sending out network traffic again. The client is running under Linux (2.6.2), if that helps.

  • Capturing a NSParseErrorException

    - by Martin
Could someone tell me how I can capture a NSParseErrorException? The Situation: my app downloads a small .plist file. I convert this into dictionary using the string method -propertylist. This normally works fine. I check for a connection before going to retrieve the file, so it works fine if I've got a connection to the internet, and works fine when I don't. However, I discovered a use case that crashes. If I'm at location that requires authetication before connecting to the internet (at Starbucks, say) what's being returned by the app isn't a plist and the attempt to parse it causes the application to crash. So is there a way to transform my code so that the NSParseErrorException is caught and rather than crashing the program I can just skip over this piece of code? NSDictionary *temp = [myDownloadString propertyList]; I tried doing this if ([myDownloadString propertyList]==NSParseErrorException){ //do something } but that didn't work.

  • VB6 ADODB Fails with SQL Compact: Multipe-Step operation generated errors

    - by Belliez
Hi, I am converting an old application to use SQL Compact database (it works ok with SQ Server 2005 and 2008) and using the following code gives an error when attempting to execute a simple select command: Private Const mSqlProvider As String = "Provider=Microsoft.SQLSERVER.CE.OLEDB.3.5;" Private Const mSqlHost As String = "Data Source=C:\database.sdf;" Private mCmd As ADODB.Command ' For executing SQL' Private mDbConnection As ADODB.Connection Private Sub Command1_Click() Dim DbConnectionString As String DbConnectionString = mSqlProvider & _ mSqlHost Set mDbConnection = New ADODB.Connection mDbConnection.CursorLocation = adUseClient Call mDbConnection.Open(DbConnectionString) If mDbConnection.State = adStateOpen Then Debug.Print (" Database is open") ' Initialise the command object' Set mCmd = New ADODB.Command mCmd.ActiveConnection = mDbConnection End If mCmd.CommandText = "select * from myTable" mCmd.CommandType = adCmdText mCmd.Execute ' FAILS HERE! ' End Sub I have referenced Microsoft ActiveX Data Access Object 6.0 Library in the project. The error I get is: Run-Time error -2147217887 (80040e21) Multipe-Step operation generated errors. • Java library to encode / decode AMF

    - by Ceilingfish
Hi chaps, I currently have a Java server that talks to a Flash client by passing JSON encoded data over a binary socket connection. Is there a way on either side to encode / decode packets as AMF instead of JSON? It seems to me that there should be some native support in Flash player for doing this? All the implementations I have found of AMF serialization seem to be embedded inside an application framework. Simiarly so, does anyone know if it's possible to decode AMF packets independently of a connection implementation in Flash?

  • PHP File Serving Script: Unreliable Downloads?

    - by JGB146
This post started as a question on ServerFault ( http://serverfault.com/questions/131156/user-receiving-partial-downloads ) but I determined that our php script was the culprit. So I'm issuing an updated question here about what I believe is the actual issue. I am using a php script to verify permissions and then serve up a file for users of my website to download. Most of the time, this works, but recently one user has been seeing problems with larger downloads. He is only getting ~80% of downloads for files that are 100MB in size. Also, all downloads from this script fail to report a filesize. Further, tests revealed that the same user COULD reliably download each of the failed files if given a direct link (at which point the filesize is reported). Here's the relevant snippet of code that we are using to serve the file: header("Content-type:$contenttype"); $len = filesize($filename); header("Content-Length: $len"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".$title.".".$ext); readfile($filename); Note that $contenttype, $filename, $title, and $ext are all set correctly before we get here. These have been triple-checked. None of them are the problem. Also, $len does provide the correct filesize. While researching this issue, I came across this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1334471/content-length-header-always-zero It seems that I am encountering the same issue. When I use the script, I get chunked encoding on the file and no size is set for content-length. I'm hypothesizing that something is going wrong on the large downloads, leading him to get a zero-length chunk before the end of the file. Here's what the headers look like for a direct request: http://www.grinderschool.com/videos/zfff5061b65ae00e8b21/KillsAids021.wmv GET /videos/zfff5061b65ae00e8b21/KillsAids021.wmv HTTP/1.1 Host: www.grinderschool.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 115 Connection: keep-alive Referer: http://www.grinderschool.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=14&p=29468 Cookie: style_cookie=printonly; phpbb3_7c544_u=2; phpbb3_7c544_k=44b832912e5f887d; phpbb3_7c544_sid=e8852df42e08cc1b2250300c2897f78f; __utma=174624884.2719561324781918700.1251850714.1270986325.1270989003.575; __utmz=174624884.1264524375.411.12.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=low%20stakes%20poker%20videos; phpbb3_cmviy_k=; phpbb3_cmviy_u=2; phpbb3_cmviy_sid=d8df5c0943863004ca40ef9c392d371d; __utmb=174624884.4.10.1270989003; __utmc=174624884 Pragma: no-cache Cache-Control: no-cache HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Sun, 11 Apr 2010 12:57:41 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.14 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Last-Modified: Sun, 04 Apr 2010 12:51:06 GMT Etag: "eb42d6-7d9b843-48368aa6dc280" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 131708995 Keep-Alive: timeout=10, max=30 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: video/x-ms-wmv And here's what they look like for the request answered by my script: http://www.grinderschool.com/download_video_test.php?t=KillsAids021&format=wmv GET /download_video_test.php?t=KillsAids021&format=wmv HTTP/1.1 Host: www.grinderschool.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 115 Connection: keep-alive Cookie: style_cookie=printonly; phpbb3_7c544_u=2; phpbb3_7c544_k=44b832912e5f887d; phpbb3_7c544_sid=e8852df42e08cc1b2250300c2897f78f; __utma=174624884.2719561324781918700.1251850714.1270986325.1270989003.575; __utmz=174624884.1264524375.411.12.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=low%20stakes%20poker%20videos; phpbb3_cmviy_k=; phpbb3_cmviy_u=2; phpbb3_cmviy_sid=d8df5c0943863004ca40ef9c392d371d; __utmb=174624884.4.10.1270989003; __utmc=174624884 HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Sun, 11 Apr 2010 12:58:02 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.14 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.11 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=KillsAids021.wmv Vary: Accept-Encoding Content-Encoding: gzip Keep-Alive: timeout=10, max=30 Connection: Keep-Alive Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: video/x-ms-wmv So the question is...what can I do to make downloads from the script work properly? Again, for 99% of users, it works as is (though I find it annoying now that no filesize is reported and thus that no time estimate can be computed about the download).

  • Error running celeryd

    - by Eric Palakovich Carr
I'm posting this question (and answer) so if anybody else has this problem in the future, you'll be able to google it. If you are trying to run celeryd in Django like so: python manage.py celeryd You can receive the following error immediately after it has started: celery@eric-desktop-dev has started. Traceback (most recent call last): File "manage.py", line 11, in <module> execute_manager(settings) <... snip ...> File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/amqplib-0.6.1-py2.6.egg/amqplib/client_0_8/connection.py", line 134, in __init__ self._x_start_ok(d, login_method, login_response, locale) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/amqplib-0.6.1-py2.6.egg/amqplib/client_0_8/connection.py", line 704, in _x_start_ok args.write_longstr(response) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/amqplib-0.6.1-py2.6.egg/amqplib/client_0_8/serialization.py", line 352, in write_longstr self.write_long(len(s)) TypeError: object of type 'NoneType' has no len() A rather cryptic error message, with no real clue as to where to go to fix the problem. See below for the answer so you don't waste a bunch of time on this error like I did today :)

  • Is there a standard practice for synchronizing SQL Server tables?

    - by EngineeringAutomation
I've written an application that retrieves pricing and part options from a SQL database to generate a 3D Model of the product and create a sales proposal. My client likes it so much they want to be able to use it on laptops in the field now. The catch is, they won't have an internet connection. I'm considering setting up a SQLite database as part of the standard installation. The SQLite database on each laptop will synchronize with the main database when the internet connection is re-established. Are there best practices regarding synchronizing SQL tables like this? Are there any pitfalls I should consider? I'm open to all options. Thank you.

  • What is the scope of JS variables in anonymous functions

    - by smorhaim
Why does this code returns $products empty? If I test for $products inside the function it does show data... but once it finishes I can't seem to get the data. var $products = new Array(); connection.query($sql, function(err, rows, fields) { if (err) throw err; for(i=0; i< rows.length; i++) { $products[rows[i].source_identifier] = "xyz"; } }); connection.end(); console.log($products); // Shows empty.
