  • Editing a remote file on-the-fly with PHP

    - by user275074
Hi, I have a requirement to edit a remote text file on-the-fly, the content of which currently stands at ~1Mb. I have tried a couple of approaches and both seem to be clunky or hog memory which I can't rely on. Thinking out logically what I'm trying to achieve is: FTP to a remote server. Download a copy of the file for backup purposes and store it somewhere locally. Open the remote file and add the necessary lines required. Remove lines from the remote file as per an array of un-required data generated from the local server. Is this possible? I've managed to code steps 1 and 2 but I'm having difficult with 3 and 4. The way I'm doing it now is to use fgets and return the whole string. Really, I don't want to do this as it involves manipulating and re-generating the whole string (and it's large) and then re-inserting it in between two markers in the remote file. Is there no way of manipulating the lines of text in the file on-the-fly?

  • PHP MVC correct usage

    - by Ratt
What is the correct (recommended method) for passing information to a view in a MVC environment. Currently we use Zend Framework, where we write classes to handle specific things EG a Book class with a save and load method to retrieve info from the DB, which is called from a particular nameAction(). What I would like to know is what is the best way to pass this information to the view, in some cases we do $this-view-book_name = $book-getBookName(); and in other cases we do the following $this-view-book = $book; OR $this-view-books = Book_Manager::getAllBooks(); and then access the object(s) properties in the view. Information on-line suggests we try limit what access a view has to information, i.e pass them only what they need and in some cases people say its ok to pass stuff through as long as nothing is done to that information. • PHP upload with progress bar

    - by Mitchan Adams
Hi all I want to create an upload form to upload large files. Thats pretty much easy, however, the upload process itself taks long and basically looks like nothing is happening for a few minutes. So now I'd like to insert a progress bar to show the user that something is happening and they should just sit tight. I've read of numerous methods like APC and certian flash plugins, but my site is hosted on a shared server and I cant install any new applications on it. I'm thinking, maybe if it is possible to read the size of the temp file it creates via an ajax page. By polling the size every few seconds I should be able to get the progress of the upload. Now the question I pose is...where is the temp file situated?

  • PHP mobile browser detection?

    - by TreyK
I'm in need of a way to detect mobile browsers server-side. I'd like a way that requires me to do little to set up and little to maintain, yet still provide me with accurate detection of (at the VERY least) Android, Mobile Safari and Blackberry browsers, along with alternatives like Opera. I'd like to have at least the majority of the mobile market covered, and I'd really prefer virtually all of the market if it doesn't take much.

  • PHP form processing - how to capture text from field that has variable Name/ID

    - by user80151
I have a form that has a field pulled from the database as a dropdown. I need to get the text selected in the dropdown but I don't know in advance what the field ID will be. This is basically just a form that has already been generated. I don't need to pull anything from the database, it's already on this page. All I need to do is get the form information and email it, no writing to the database. I know how to do the _Request for the other fields based on the ID but I'm not sure how to do this one. The ID changes. It can be ID=1, ID-2, etc. I need to do something like: _REQUEST form element where ID is LIKE "ID[*]" or something similar. Any suggestions or links to tutorials? Here are a couple samples of what the dropdown renders on the page: <div class="wrapperAttribsOptions"> <h4 class="optionName back"><label class="attribsSelect" for="attrib- 1">Model</label></h4> <div class="back"> <select name="id[1]" id="attrib-1"> <option value="45">VC3-4C</option> <option value="1">VC3-4PG</option> <option value="3">VC3-4SG</option> <div class="wrapperAttribsOptions"> <h4 class="optionName back"><label class="attribsSelect" for="attrib-14">SPK Model</label></h4> <div class="back"> <select name="id[14]" id="attrib-14"> <option value="43">SPK-4</option> <option value="44">SPK-8</option> </select> TIA

  • Connect to Oracle database on a different server from PHP

    - by macha
Hello I have a database engine sitting on a remote server, while my webserver is present locally. I have worked pretty much with client-server architecture, where the server has both the webserver and the database engine. Now I need to connect to an Oracle database which is situated on a different server. Can anybody give me any suggestions?? I believe ODBC_CONNECT might not work. Do I use OCI8 drivers?? How would I connect to my database server. Also I would have a very high number of database calls going back and forth, so is it good to go with persistent connection or do I still use individual database calls?

  • PHP Populating array with $variables

    - by Tom
Hi, I'm trying to create a basic shopping cart, having an issue with the product page allowing users to add more items to their cart then are in stock (I have code in place to prevent this on the view cart page, just not the view product page) This is what I have so far; for ($i = 0; $i < $numItem; $i++) { extract($cartContent[$i]); $subTotal += $price * $cartQuantity; $cartLimiter[$itemNo => $cartQuantity]; Using an array so the position number becomes the item number and the cart quantity becomes the assigned value, however it doesn't seem to like it and throws out on the bottom line of code: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_DOUBLE_ARROW, expecting ']' Thanks

  • PHP combobox can't save the selected value on Edit Page

  • Soap Web Service PHP

    - by James Radford
Is it possible to send a complexType to a SOAP web service by creating the complexType locally, i.e. create the type by creating a class and then sending the instance of that class back to the service? Admittedly this is only possible if I can get the definition of the type from the service provider. I'm looking to send a complexType back to a web service. So if this approach wont work please suggest an alternative...

  • (PHP) Converting an array of arrays from one format into another

    - by Richard Carter
Hi, I currently have an array, created from a database, an example of which looks like the following: Array( [0] => Array ( objectid => 2, name => title, value => apple ), [1] => Array ( objectid => 2, name => colour, value => red ), [2] => Array ( objectid => 3, name => title, value => pear ), [3] => Array ( objectid => 3, name => colour, value => green ) ) What I would like to do is group all the items in the array by their objectid, and convert the 'name' values into keys and 'value' values into values of an associative array....like below: Array ( [0] => Array ( objectid => 2, title => apple, colour => red ), [1] => Array ( objectid => 3, title => pear, colour => green ) ) I've tried a few things but haven't really got anywhere.. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Sample code: $html = file_get_contents('http://www.google.com'); echo $html; It works on localhost. But after uploading to the webserver, it gives me a warning: file_get_contents(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Temporary failure in name resolution. If I replace the domain name with google's IP address, it gives a warning: failed to open stream: Connection timed out. And ini_get("allow_url_fopen") return 1.

  • Modify a php limit text function adding some kind of offset to it

    - by webmasters
    Maybe you guys can help: I have a variable called $bio with bio data. $bio = "Hello, I am John, I'm 25, I like fast cars and boats. I work as a blogger and I'm way cooler then the author of the question"; I search the $bio using a set of functions to search for a certain word, lets say "author" which adds a span class around that word, and I get: $bio = "Hello, I am John, I'm 25, I like fast cars and boats. I work as a blogger and I'm way cooler then the <span class=\"highlight\">author</span> of the question"; I use a function to limit the text to 85 chars: $bio = limit_text($bio,85); The problem is when there are more then 80 chars before the word "author" in $bio. When the limit_text() is applied, I won't see the highlighted word author. What I need is for the limit_text() function to work as normal, adding all the words that contain the span class highlight at the end. Something like this: *"This is the limited text to 85 chars, but there are no words with the span class highlight so I am putting to be continued ... **author**, **author2** (and all the other words that have a span class highlight around them separate by comma "* Hope you understood what I mean, if not, please comment and I'll try to explain better. Here is my limit_text() function: function limit_text($text, $length){ // Limit Text if(strlen($text) > $length) { $stringCut = substr($text, 0, $length); $text = substr($stringCut, 0, strrpos($stringCut, ' ')); } return $text; } UPDATE: $xturnons = str_replace(",", ", ", $xturnons); $xbio = str_replace(",", ", ", $xbio); $xbio = customHighlights($xbio,$toHighlight); $xturnons = customHighlights($xturnons,$toHighlight); $xbio = limit_text($xbio,85); $xturnons = limit_text($xturnons,85); The customHighlights function which adds the span class highlighted: function addRegEx($word){ // Highlight Words return "/" . $word . '[^ ,\,,.,?,\.]*/i'; } function highlight($word){ return "<span class='highlighted'>".$word[0]."</span>"; } function customHighlights($searchString,$toHighlight){ $searchFor = array_map('addRegEx',$toHighlight); $result = preg_replace_callback($searchFor,'highlight',$searchString); return $result; }
