• SQL optimization: deletes taking a long time

  I have an Oracle SQL query as part of a stored proc: DELETE FROM item i WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM item_queue q WHERE q.n=i.n) AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM tool_queue t WHERE t.n=i.n); A bit about the tables: item contains about 10k rows with an index on the n column item_queue contains about 1mil rows also with index on n column tool_queue contains about 5mil rows indexed as well I am wondering if the query/subqueries can be optimized somehow to make them run faster, I thought that deletes were generally fairly fast

  Hello, I'm writing a customized reflective library for some specialized custom domain logic, and that library is going to use XML configuration files that will dynamically resolve System.Type objects at runtime. However, when writing the XML configuration files, it's a bit of a pain to write the types because they need to be fully qualified assembly names for Type.GetType() to resolve them. Is there a way to find out the AssemblyQualifiedName of an object in Visual Studio without resorting to writing a program to print them out to a file or standard out or anything like that ?

  For a grails application, I need to find a list of objects whose "attr" is one in a dynamic list of strings. The actual HQL query is more complex, but the bit I need help with is this: def result = MyObject.executeQuery("select o from MyObject as o where o.attr in :list", [list: aListOfStrings]) This is obviously not the right syntax, Grails throws it back at me as an "unexpected token", being the :list parameter. Is this possible in HQL? I don't particularly want to use Criteria in this part of the codebase.

I'm using overflow:hidden to allow the div to spill out one side of the table cell but now I want to center it so that it spills out a wee bit on both sides insdead of alot on one side. How do I horizontally center a DIV inside a TD which is too narrow for the DIV?

  Hi guys :) Css "over" selector applys a temporary style to an element, it isn't definitive: div:hover { background-color: red; } I can use the same thing with javascript but it is a bit complicate and impossible for several elements: var elem = document.getElementByTagName ("div")[0]; elem.onmouseover = function () { this.style.backgroundColor = "red"; } elem.onmouseout = function () { this.style.backgroundColor = "transparent"; } There is a better way ? • powershell.exe tab completion - list alternatives?

  I've never really used PowerShell before, and playing with it a bit, it looks like it uses cmd.exe's style of tab completion (fill in the first likely candidate, and then you can use tab to cycle through other alternatives). I'd much prefer the way e.g. bash works, where if there are multiple candidates, it shows a list of them. Is there an easy way to turn this on, by any chance?

• Efective way to avoid integer overflow when multiplying?

  Hi, I'm working on a hash function which gets a string as input. Right now I'm doing a loop and inside the hash (an int variable) is being multiplied by a value and then the ASCII code for the current character is added to the mix. hash = hash * seed + string[i] But sometimes, if the string is big enough there is an integer overflow there, what can I do to avoid it while maintaining the same hash structure? Maybe a bit operation included inside the loop?

  Hi I'm interested to find out what would be the good way to make changes to production database and source code in web application (ASP.NET, SQL Server 2008). A little bit more details, we develop on local machines, and then we need to transfer the code and database changes to production (pretty much standard story). At the moment we do it in the evening, change the database directly from management studio on production server, and then just overwrite the existing asp.net code (copy/past). Thanks
