  • clear IP address of Ethernet interface

    - by jackhab
What is the Linux command to clear IP address of an interface without bringing it down and/or restarting network services. Seems strange ifconfig is able to change IP address but has no option to clear it, or am I wrong? EDIT:As simple as ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0. They should have put it in the man

  • How can I split a formula into multiple lines in OpenOffice calc?

    - by cherouvim
I have this simple formula: =CONCATENATE("foo";"bar") which renders foobar on the cell. How can I lay this formula in multiple lines in the same cell? I'd like to be able to do something like the following but it doesn't work as the newline in the cell forbids the formula from being executed: =CONCATENATE("foo"; "bar") The reason I'm asking is because I have huge formulas an I need to format them (using newlines and a bit of indentation) for readability. thanks

  • How to record macro of formatting tables in Excel 2010?

    - by GIS Man
I'm working with Excel 2010 and made over 20 tables in one sheet. I just want to work more efficiently by making a simple macro for auto formatting table. This is the style I want to apply with the macro: Font: 10, Bold, Arial Borders: All borders Text: Center Table: 3*5 (row * column) Cell tile for header table only (any colors) I've uploaded a sample table with that style, if my question is not clear enough. Thanks for any help!

  • Fixed width, free, sans serif fonts

    - by The Journeyman geek
I'm a dyslexic and i generally use arial for most things, since its probably the most readable font for me. However i'd like to have a fixed width font with similar charecteristics (sans serif, distinct, 'simple' characters etc) since some things break with non fixed width fonts, but at the same time, most of the 'standard' fonts are harder to read for me- any suggestions?

  • How to pin either a Shortcut or a Batch file to the new Windows 7 Taskbar?

    - by Shaharyar
We are having trouble adding our batch scripts to the new Windows 7 taskar. Our batchfiles take some arguments and just execute other application based on those arguments . To keep it simple, we created some shortcuts for our customers which they just need to click in order to get everything running. The question here is: How can we pin those shortcuts or batch files to the taskbar? (The customers aren't supposed to access the file system and that's why they can only see the taskbar)

  • How does the os know which paramater to pass to /etc/init.d/

    - by iDev247
I've been working with linux for a while but in a rather simple manner. I understand that scripts in init.d are executed when the os starts but how exactly does it works? How does the os know which paramater to pass to a script? To start apache I would do sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 start. If I run sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 it doesn't work without the start. How does the os pass start to the script?

  • How to process requests twice in Apache

    - by Pieter
In order to perform realistic tests for a new backend server, I'd like to process all Apache requests twice. So simply handle all the live requests with the old server, as it's done right now, but then also 'duplicate' the requests to a different virtual host, where the new backend is deployed, which will process the request and log the response. What's the best / most simple way to achieve this in Apache? (the backend is a FastCGI process)

  • Getting gvim to show unicode

    - by Rook
How to get GVim (v. 7.3. on Windows XP, if that matters) to show Unicode characters? Something along the lines of http://vimcasts.org/episodes/show-invisibles/ (search for listchars to see the little triangle I'm trying to get). I'm using set encoding, set fileencoding, and set fileencodings, all to utf-8, if that helps. I know it must be something simple, but nevertheless, here I am, stuck. Help.

  • Why isn't the backup file created when running sqlcmd from remote machine?

    - by Ed Gl
I tried running the sqlcmd from a remote host to do a simple backup of a sql 2008 database. The command goes something like this: sqlcmd -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xx -U username -P some_password -Q "Backup database [db] to \ disk = 'c:\test_backup.bak' with format" I get a succesfull message but the file isn't created. When I run this on the sql manager on the same machine, it works. I thought it was permission problems, but I'm using the same username in both cases. Any thoughts?

  • Error in eclipse on run android project

    - by Larz
    I am trying to get a simple hello world android project working in eclipse using an android emulator. I have been using the examples on developer.android.com. I actually did have a hello world app working. I then modified it's xml files to have a text input field and a button as in the second example shows on that site. This failed to run on the emulator. I then went back and tried to create another simple hello world project, but it fails to run. The console says "Waiting for HOME ('android.process.acore') to be launched, but nothing happens or sometimes a messenger in the emulator says "unfortunately Android Wear has stopped". Below is a sample error filter on the log file. I find trying to debug this is something new to me and I am not sure the best way to go about it. I am just trying to learn some basic android developer skills. 05-30 16:19:07.336: E/SELinux(469): SELinux: Loaded file_contexts from /file_contexts, 05-30 16:19:07.336: E/SELinux(469): digest= 05-30 16:19:07.376: E/SELinux(469): b0 05-30 16:19:07.376: E/SELinux(469): 4b 05-30 16:19:07.756: E/SELinux(469): 03 05-30 16:19:07.756: E/SELinux(469): 4a 05-30 16:19:07.826: E/SELinux(469): 73 05-30 16:19:07.886: E/SELinux(469): ab 05-30 16:19:07.886: E/SELinux(469): 6d 05-30 16:19:07.896: E/SELinux(469): 46 05-30 16:19:07.896: E/SELinux(469): b4 05-30 16:19:07.896: E/SELinux(469): a5 05-30 16:19:07.896: E/SELinux(469): 73 05-30 16:19:07.896: E/SELinux(469): 8a 05-30 16:19:07.896: E/SELinux(469): ee 05-30 16:19:07.896: E/SELinux(469): ac 05-30 16:19:07.906: E/SELinux(469): 68 05-30 16:19:07.906: E/SELinux(469): ff 05-30 16:19:07.906: E/SELinux(469): 04 05-30 16:19:07.906: E/SELinux(469): dc 05-30 16:19:07.906: E/SELinux(469): b8 05-30 16:19:07.906: E/SELinux(469): a2 05-30 16:19:11.806: E/SensorManager(511): sensor or listener is null 05-30 16:19:16.196: E/BluetoothAdapter(378): Bluetooth binder is null 05-30 16:19:16.206: E/BluetoothAdapter(378): Bluetooth binder is null 05-30 16:19:17.186: E/WVMExtractor(54): Failed to open libwvm.so: dlopen failed: library "libwvm.so" not found 05-30 16:19:17.776: E/AudioCache(54): Error 1, -2147483648 occurred 05-30 16:19:17.796: E/SoundPool(378): Unable to load sample: (null) 05-30 16:19:18.536: E/AudioCache(54): Error 1, -2147483648 occurred 05-30 16:19:18.546: E/SoundPool(378): Unable to load sample: (null)

  • IIS 7 Web service access

    - by Aharon Manne
I am trying to debug a simple web service. I have IIS 7 installed on my development machine (Windows 7), and have installed the web service. I can access it from my development machine, but not from any other machine in the local network.I opened the firewall to HTTP access, and I can access the default website from other machines, so it is not the firewall. What security settings should I look at to try to allow devices on the LAN to access the web service?

  • Creating software raid on spare internal drives with Fedora

    - by Wizzard
Hi there, I got two internal 80GB drives which are blank and just sitting in the case. I have tried googling for the steps or some info but I can only find out how to setup raid when I am first installing Fedora - not for doing when already setup. These are two new (old) drives, that are blank, the system is not on them so should really just be as simple as formating and then binding them to a raid - but can't find any information. Any clues?

  • Video Chat going through a server

    - by Alexander
I'm trying to build a simple video chat client on the mac as a little project and I want it to be able to go over my own little server and arrive at the other end (so going over the internet rather just locally). So my question is if there are any references I should look for online on how to handle something like this on the server side and such. Any links or pointers would be a great help, thanks!

  • Per bytes RAM memory acess

    - by b-gen-jack-o-neill
Hi, I have just a simple question. Today memory DDR chips are 64 bits wide, and the CPU data bus is also 64 bits wide. But memory is stil organised in single bytes. So, what I want to ask is, when CPU selects some memory adress, it should be one byte, right? Becouse the lowest memory portion you can access is 1 byte. But, if you get 1 byte per 1 adress, why is memory bus 8 bytes wide?

  • Are there any easy ways to create a YouTube playlist or download queue from a text file?

    - by Eric Johnson
In other words, if I have a list with entries formatted "[Artist Name] - [Track Name]" without advanced knowledge of their corresponding YouTube URLs (if any exist), how might I script things so that YouTube searches for each entry, and generates the URLs for the first n number of identical or similar entries per a YouTube query? Do any simple solutions come to mind that might lever wget, PowerShell, or Python? Thanks!

    - by Syska
Hi, We are a small group of people drinking a special brewed beer every week, but we need a rating system for it. Until now we have been using a simple spread sheet, but that's not user friendly and its not online, which would be a great feature. So is there any of such system available to download ? Any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

  • Limit YouTube to specific videos

    - by Neil Barnwell
A friend of mine has a son who likes to watch YouTube, but she would like to limit his access with some sort of white-list. This is more strict than simple over-18 stuff. I've thought of a static webpage with embedded video players on, but I don't know how to limit general search access to YouTube.

  • FC SAN network high-error rate simulation

    - by Wieslaw Herr
Is there a way to simulate a malfunctioning device or a faulty cable in a FC SAN network? edit: I know shutting down a port on a switch is an option, I'd like to simulate high error rates though. In an ethernet network it would be a simple case of adding a transparent bridge that discards a given percent of the packets, but I have absolutely no idea how to tackle that in an Fibre Channel environment...

  • Multithreaded TIFF to PNG conversion

    - by mtone
I'm working with images of scanned books, so hundreds of high resolution pictures. I'm doing conversion work with Photoshop Elements - I can quickly save them to uncompressed TIFF, but converting to compressed PNG using a single thread takes ages. Do you know a software, ideally simple and free, that would batch convert those TIFFs to PNG in a multi-threaded manner (4 to 8 simultaneous files) to take advantage of those cores and cut converting times? I'm not too worried in slight variations in final size.

  • iptables intercept local traffic

    - by Anonymous
i hope someone can help me out with somewhat simple task. I'm trying to redirect a client in my router through my desktop PC, so i can dump the traffic and analyze it (its potential source of poisoning the network with malicious packets). However i don't have a second NIC on my hands and i was hoping i can redirect all the traffic from that IP through my PC. In essence to become MITM for the client. Does anyone have any idea where to start: Current state: (localip)-(router)-(internet) And what i want to do: (localip)-(pc)-(router)-(internet)

  • Windows Advanced Firewall (Command Line Interface)

    - by Bradford Fisher
I'm wondering where to find detailed information regarding the Microsoft Advanced Windows Firewall command line settings. For instance, from reading a couple technet articles I've learned that I can run the following: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group=”File and Printer Sharing” new enable=Yes The bit about 'group="File and Printer Sharing"' is the part I'm having trouble finding documentation for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And, if possible, I'd rather a pointer to the docs than a simple listing of group names.
