    Possible Duplicate: Is it possible to change my terminal window prompt text? I have been using "Ubuntu 12.4" for few days now (no previous Linux experiences at all) and I have noticed that the symbols on each command line more then this in many examples in the network. For example, I have: And I want to remove the "gotqn-System-Product-Name" part, because it is taking too much space? What should I do to change this?

  • Virtual Machine Library not updating

    Hi, I have a problem with my library window. I use to have a XP VM, which I deleted and now have a Vista VM. Every time I start Fusion, the XP VM shortcut will still be in the library (File not found), and the Vista VM won't be. I have tried re-installing Fusion but the same XP shortcut keeps coming up. Fusion doesn't seem to be updating the list of VM I currently have for some reason. Any ideas? Lots of thanks Jeremy

  • Allow X Client Display through TCP on Lucid

    On Karmic, to allow other PCs to open and X-Window on a station, one had to edit /etc/gdm.conf and change DisallowTCP to false. That file no longer exists on Lucid. I tried changing an entry in /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas (XML format) but that did not make a difference. Any ideas on where to go for this?

    I have an application installed in my RHEL6 box that has a GUI (AppGui.sh). My problem is that a few non-tech users would like to access this GUI remotely. I've tried several guides over the internet but I still cant make it work. I tried: -Installing X Window System -Enabling FORWARDX11=yes in my sshd_config -Exporting $DISPLAY variable -Connecting through ssh -X user@host (simply stays there) How can I setup my box from scratch to make this work?

  • Connecting with SMB from Mac to Windows server

    I'm trying to connect from my Mac to a directory on a Windows server. Here is what I'm doing from the finder : menu Go->connect to server->smb://srv-fichiers1/Personnel/conujer I get an error (error code -36). But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory. I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.

  • WMP Skipping Chapters When Restored to Fullscreen

    I just noticed a rather interesting issue with WMP. I'm watching a DVD while working, and noticed that if I minimize it to my taskbar, and open up the small preview window I can watch it just fine. But if I restore it while it's playing, it immediately skips ahead to the next chapter, blowing right past several minutes of content. Is this standard behavior? Is there a work-around to keep it from doing this?

    I have a server, and windows vista, 64-bit, 4gb ram. Sometimes the server randomly drops into the page file, and disconnects everyone who was online. Only after I click the cmd.exe window does it comes back out. How do I mark a program as not eligible for the page file?   • Make Emacs status bar draggable anywhere?

    In Emacs, if I split the frame (C-x 2), each window has a status bar. Historically, I could drag the status bar to resize them. Unfortunately, with Emacs these days and just a few modes (for version control, line/col number, abbrevs, my programming language, etc.), pretty much the entire bar has remapped mouse-1 to something other than letting me drag the bar! Is there any way to turn the status bar back into something I can drag, without losing all of my modes?

  • Is there a way to save and restore a set of tabs in a linux file manager?

    For a frequent task, I need a file manager window open with about 8 tabs, each a different location. I'd like to be able to open the tabs once and then save them as a "tab set", so that in future sessions, I can simply open a file manager and restore the saved tab set, without having to open each tab manually. I'm running Mint 16 with Thunar, but could use a different file manager if needed. Is there a way to do this?

Is there a way to make the display move more, so that the result is (for example) centered instead?
