• XML and .NET: How to replace specific node with many other ones loaded from raw xml data

  Let's suppose we have an element like this one in the main xml file: <group name="gr1" filename="groups/gr1.xml"/>. The second file gr1.xml contains something like this: <item name="i1">Item one</item> <item name="i2">Item two</item> <item name="i3">Item three</item> Note that there is no XML declaration in gr1.xml, just plain items without single parent node. So… Which is the best way to replace <group/> with its <item/>s? I have already tried some things like manual enclosing of gr1.xml content into a single node with XML declaration and loading it into XmlDocument, but it doesn't look like a good solution.

• Is the a pattern for iterating over lists held by a class (dynamicly typed OO languages)

  If I have a class that holds one or several lists is it better to allow other classes to fetch those lists(with a getter) or to implement a doXList/eachXList type method for that list that take a function and call that function on each element of the list contained by that object. I wrote a program that did a ton of this and I hated passing around all these lists sometimes with method in class a calling method in class B to return lists contained in class C, B contains a C or multiple C's (note question is about dynamically typed OO languages languages like ruby or smalltalk) ex. (that came up in my program) on a Person class containing scheduling preferences and a scheduler class needing to access them.

• @media queries - one rule overrides another?

  I have multiple @media queries all working fine but as soon as i put in a higher max screen-width than 1024px the rules for the higher width gets applied to everything. @media screen and (max-width: 1400px) { #wrap { width: 72%; } } @media screen and (max-width: 1024px) { #slider h2 { width: 100%; } #slider img { margin: 60px 0.83333333333333% 0 2.08333333333333%; } .recent { width: 45.82%; margin: 10px 2.08333333333334% 0 1.875%; } } as you can see 1024px (and also the 800px max-width query) do not change the #wrap width and work fine. As soon as i add the 1400px max-width query it changes them to 72% for ALL sizes and does the same for any element - for instance if i set #slider img to have a margin of 40px it will show at ALL sizes even though it is only in the max-width of 1400px. Am i missing something really obvious? Been trying to work this out for the past 2 days! Thanks, John

• FF3/Windows CSS z-index problem with YouTube player

  I'm stuck on what appears to be a CSS/z-index conflict with the YouTube player. In Firefox 3 under Windows XP, Take a look at this page: http://spokenword.org/program/21396 Click on the Collect button and note that the pop-up <div appears under the YouTube player. On other browsers the <div appears on top. It has a z-index value of 999999. I've tried setting the z-index of the <object element containing the player to a lower value, but that didn't work. Any idea how to get the pop-up to appear over the player?

• Preventing cross-site scripting in ASP.NET MVC - using jQuery or standard HtmlHelpers

  I am building an ASP.NET MVC application that is AJAX-driven. For some reason I need to add some DOM elements on the fly when clicking a submit button. This is accomplished with jQuery.append(). One element inserted is a textarea, whose the data must be parse before submitting to ensure that no cross-site scripting can be done. We know that the Html.Encode() works great but must be declared outside a script tag. All I have done with jQuery is embedded within a script tag. 1) Is there a way to take advantage of the Html.Encode() within a script tag? 2) How can I accomplish this with jQuery? At worst I can use HttpUtility.HtmlEncode(), which is called on the server-side. Thanks for your help. Roland

• How does an interpreter switch scope?

  I'm asking this because I'm relatively new to interpreter development and I wanted to know some basic concepts before reinventing the wheel. I thought of the values of all variables stored in an array which makes the current scope, upon entering a function the array is swapped and the original array put on some sort of stack. When leaving the function the top element of the "scope stack" is popped of and used again. Is this basically right? Isn't swapping arrays (which means moving around a lot of data) not very slow and therefore not used by modern interpreters?

• How to access parent window variables from object

  I've got an XHTML 1.1 Strict document that is loading another XHTML 1.1 document in an <object> element (as <iframe> isn't part of the XHTML 1.1 spec). I'm having trouble in IE8 (don't care about 6 or 7) with accessing a javascript variable, Lightbox, in the parent window, from the document loaded in the <object>. In Firefox and everywhere I've seen online, I can just use window.parent.Lightbox. In IE8 however, I get it being undefined. window.parent does give me an object but it doesn't have my Lightbox variable. I've also tried window.Lightbox, window.top.Lightbox, and window.top.document.Lightbox, but all return undefined. I should mention I'm using Javascript to set the data property of the <object> - but I don't see how that could affect anything relevant. What Javascript Fu do I need to do to be able to access my Lightbox variable?

  I have an element like this: <span class="tool_tip" title="The full title">The ful&#8230;</span> This seems to work: jQuery('span:contains(…)'); But this does not: jQuery('span:contains(&#8230;)'); I am pretty sure that it would be bad to use the first one because if someone else saves the file, or the browser decides to get the file in a different character set for some reason things will not work. There has to be a way to properly select this span, right?

  I'm looking for some STL, boost, or similar container to use the same way indexes are used in databases to search for record using a query like this: select * from table1 where field1 starting with 'X'; or select * from table1 where field1 like 'X%'; I thought about using std::map, but I cannot because I need to search for fields that "start with" some text, and not those that are "equal to". I could create a sorted vector or list and use binary search (breaking the set in 2 in each step by reading the element in the middle and seeing if it's more or less than 'X'), but I wonder if there is some ready-made container I could use without reinventing the wheel?

  I have a HTML node like so: <b>Bold text</b> A variable $el contains a DOMElement reference to the text of that HTML node ("Bold text"), got from the XPath expression //b/text() I want to change the element to <b><span>Bold Text</span></b> So I tried: $span = $doc->createElement('span', "Bold Text"); $el->parentNode->replaceChild($span,, $el) which fails because parentNode is null. So, as a test, I tried: $el-insertBefore($span, $el); which throws no errors but produces no change in the output. Any thoughts?

  I have a mysql db and am using php 5.2 What I am trying to do is offer a list of options for a person to select (only 1). The chosen option will cause a select, update, or delete statement to be ran. The results of the statement do not need to be shown, although, showing the old and then the new would be nice (no problems with that part tho'.). Pseudo-Code: Assign $choice = 0 Check the value of $choice // This way, if it = 100, we do a break Select a Choice:<br> 1. Adjust Status Value (+60) // $choice = 1<br> 2. Show all Ships <br> // $choice = 2 3. Show Ships in Port <br> // $choice = 3 ... 0. $choice="100" // if the value =100, quit this part Use either case (switch) or if/else statements to run the users choice1 If the choice is 1, then run the "Select" statement with the variable of $sql1 -- "SELECT .... If the choice is 2, then run the "Select" statement with the variable of $sql2 --- SELECT * FROM Ships If the choice is 3, then run the "Select" statement with the variable of $sql3 <br> .... If the choice is 0, then we are done. I figured the (3) statements would be assigned in php as: $sql1="...". $sql2="SELECT * FROM Ships" $sql3="SELECT * FROM Ships WHERE nPort="1" My idea was to use the switch statement, but got lost on it. :( I would like the options to be available over and over again, until a variable ($choice) is selected. In which case, this particular page is done and goes back to the "Main Menu"? The coding and display, if I use it, I can do. Just not sure how to write the way to select which one I want. It is possible that I would run all of the queries, and other times, only one, so that is why I would like the choice. An area I get confused in is the proper forms to use such as -- ' ' " " and ...?? Not sure the # of options I will end up with, but it will be more than 5 but less than 20 / page.   Using Visual Studio 2008, I need to create a custom web form that when picked acts like the web content form, by providing a dialog that lets you pick a master page. I have looked through the webform.zip template and thought I had a clue, but trying different combinations has baffled me as it either doesn't appear or doesn't work. Also when you set the project type to Web and sub project type to CSharp it doesn't appear, so I don't know if this part of the cause, because I would of hoped that the SupportsMasterPage element would of caused this dialog to appear, if it is a web item, but no luck. Frown Any ideas? p.s. I have used my googling resources to the maximum so unsure what to do.

• Why does $('#id') return true if id doesn't exist?

  I always wondered why jQuery returns true if I'm trying to find elements by id selector that doesnt exist in the DOM structure. Like this: <div id="one">one</div> <script> console.log( !!$('#one') ) // prints true console.log( !!$('#two') ) // is also true! (empty jQuery object) console.log( !!document.getElementById('two') ) // prints false </script> I know I can use !!$('#two').length since length === 0 if the object is empty, but it seems logical to me that a selector would return the element if found, otherwise null (like the native document.getElementById does). F.ex, this logic can't be done in jQuery: var div = $('#two') || $('<div id="two"></div>'); Wouldnt it be more logical if the ID selector returned null if not found? anyone?

  Hi, I have the following code in my application: $(".deleteproduct").click(function() { id = this.id; alert("id: " + id); }); If i run my site nothing happens when I click on an element with the class deleteproduct. But when I place breakpoints before line 1,2 and 3 it works like a charm. The elements with class deleteproduct are loaded through AJAX call right behind $(document).ready(function(). The .click code is underneath it. This seems really weird to me. It's working if breakpoints in Firebug are used, but not when there are not...

• How to prevent button/movieclip from interfering with mouse events

  I have a few swf's that are loaded into a base file using levels. These clips can be cycled through by means of a setInterval function or when the user clicks the next or previous button. However, when the user hovers over a defined 'hit' area which is ultimately a blank movie clip, the setTimeout call is then canceled. This works fine, except that now the 'hit' clip - being above everything - prevents the movies below accepting hit states, and if I move it to below everything else, when one mouses over any element in the loaded movie, it then acts as though the user has mouse out of the hit area. Is there any way to have this 'hit' clip do its job simply by determining if the mouse is over it, but without using an onRollOver function or equivalent? Much appreciated

  In my cshtml file I have a form named 'ApplyMedicalMain' and I want to show a dynamically loaded division when the form is dirty but its not happening even though the form is dirty ...
