  • Creation of model in core data on the fly

    - by user1740045
How can we create a model in core data on the fly? I.e getting the schema of database from somewhere and then creating a Core Data Object graph? *QuesTion:* Yes thats fine, agreed with all the advantages. But, can anybody can tell practically, what is the benefit of integrating Core Data into project instead of using SQL directly. 1.No need to write SQL boiler plate code [but need to learn Core Data Model (steep curve)] 2.WE can undo and redo changes [but practically who needs it] 3.we can migrate to another schema [that can be done by SQLite as well jus need to add another field into table] 4.For say aggregation on some field in table,in Core Data we need to loop through Core Data Objects whereas in SQLite we need to first write SQLite Boiler Plate Code and then the basic aggregation SQL query, which is easy to write, only length of code will increase...But in case of Core Data (need to learn a lot). So apart from reducing the length of Code, does it actually adds value to project? or in terms of Memory Efficiency,Performance,etc.. PS: If anybody has actualy worked on Core Data(Model Creation On the Fly) , if possible share and gve pointers..thanks!

  • How to handle product ratings in a database

    - by Mel
Hello, I would like to know what is the best approach to storing product ratings in a database. I have in mind the following two (simplified, and assuming a MySQL db) scenarios: Scenario 1: Create two columns in the product table to store number of votes and the sum of all votes. Use columns to get an average on the product display page: products(productedID, productName, voteCount, voteSum) Pros: I will only need to access one table, and thus execute one query to display product data and ratings. Cons: Write operations will be executed in a table whose original purpose is only to furnish product data. Scenario 2: Create an additional table to store ratings. products(productID, productName) ratings(productID, voteCount, voteSum) Pros: Isolate ratings into a separate table, leaving the products table to furnish data on available products. Cons: I will have to execute two separate queries on product page requests (one for data and another for ratings). In terms of performance, which of the following two approaches is best: Allow users to execute an occasional write query to a table that will handle hundreds of read requests? Execute two queries at every product page, but isolate the write query into a separate table. I'm a novice to database development, and often find myself struggling with simple questions such as these. Many thanks,

  • loading remote page into DOM with javascript

    - by scoobydoo
I am trying to write a web widget which will allow users to display customized information (from my website) in their own web page. The mechanism I want to use (for creating the web widget) is javascript. So basically, I want to be able to write some javascript code like this (this is what the end user copies into their HTML page, to get my widget displayed in their page) <script type="text/javascript"> /* javascript here to fetch page from remote url and insert into DOM */ </script> I have two questions: how do I write a javascript code to fetch the page from the remote url? Ideally this will be PLAIN javascript (i.e. not using jQuery etc - since I dont want to force the user to get third party scripts jQuery which may conflict with other scripts on their page etc) The page I am fetching contains inline javascript, which gets executed in an body.onLoad event, as well as other functions which are used in response to user actions - my questions are: i). will the body.onLoad event be triggered for the retrieved document?. ii). If the retrieved page is dumped directly into the DOM, then the document will contain two <body> sections, which is no longer valid (X)HTML - however, I need the body.onLoad event to be triggered for the page to be setup correctly, and I also need the other functions in the retrieved page, for the retrieved page to be able to respond to the user interaction. Any suggestions/tips on how I can solve these problems?

  • What is the proper way to wait a script loaded completely before another

    - by FatDogMark
I am making a website that is divided by several sections <div id='section-1' class='section'>web content</div> <div id='section-2' class='section'>web content</div> I have like ten sections on my webpage ,each sections height is set to the user window height when document is ready by javascript $('.section').height($(window).height()); Some effects like slideshows on my webpage require the calculated height of the section in order to work properly. Therefore I always use something like this at document ready as a solution. setTimeout(startslideshow,1000); setTimeout(startanimations,1000); ...etc To make sure the section height is the user window height before the slideshow's code start because the sections cannot change to user window height instantly once the webpage loaded will generate serious problems in my slideshow code, like wrong calculated positions. Therefore there will be a situation that's after the page loaded, there will be about a second everything is messed up,before everything can works properly, how could I avoid that being seen by the user? I tried to $(document).hide(),or $('html,body').hide(), then fade in after a second, but I get other weird problems, especially on ipad,my fixed position top navigation bar will always become 'not fixed' while user is scrolling. As I am a self-learner, I afraid my method is not typical. I want to know what is the common ways of real web programmers usually do when they have to divide his webpage into different sections and set its height to window height , then make sure the other effects that's depends on the section height works properly and avoid to wait the height change for a second?

  • Jquery dynamic dropdown event not firing

    - by kevin
    Hi i am trying to create dropdownlists dynamically and populating the contents via an ajax call, this sort of works in the sense that the drop down is created and populated as required but its 'change' event does not fire. I am posting the code below, if anyone can spot something obvious, can you please let me know regards $(document).ready(function () { $("#positions select").change(function (e) { alert("in"); var id = $("#category_id").val(); $.getJSON("/Category/GetSubCategories/" + id, function (data) { if (data.length > 0) { alert(data.length); var position = document.getElementById('positions'); var tr = position.insertRow(7); var td1 = tr.insertCell(-1); var td = tr.insertCell(-1); var sel = document.createElement("select"); sel.name = 'sel'; sel.id = 'sel'; sel.setAttribute('class', 'category'); td.appendChild(sel); $.each(data, function (GetSubCatergories, category) { $('#sel').append($("<option></option>"). attr("value", category.category_id). text(category.name)); }); } }); }); });

  • How to convert a string to variable name

    - by p1xelarchitect
    I'm loading several external JSON files and want to check if they have been successfully cached before the the next screen is displayed. My strategy is to check the name of the array to see if it an object. My code works perfectly when I check only a single array and hard code the array name into my function. My question is: how can i make this dynamic? not dynamic: (this works) $("document").ready(){ checkJSON("nav_items"); } function checkJSON(){ if(typeof nav_items == "object"){ // success... } } dynamic: (this doesn't work) $("document").ready(){ checkJSON("nav_items"); checkJSON("foo_items"); checkJSON("bar_items"); } function checkJSON(item){ if(typeof item == "object"){ // success... } } here is the a larger context of my code: var loadAttempts = 0; var reloadTimer = false; $("document").ready(){ checkJSON("nav_items"); } function checkJSON(item){ loadAttempts++; //if nav_items exists if(typeof nav_items == "object"){ //if a timer is running, kill it if(reloadTimer != false){ clearInterval(reloadTimer); reloadTimer = false; } console.log("found!!"); console.log(nav_items[1]); loadAttempts = 0; //reset // load next screen.... } //if nav_items does not yet exist, try 5 times, then give up! else { //set a timer if(reloadTimer == false){ reloadTimer = setInterval(function(){checkJSON(nav_items)},300); console.log(item + " not found. Attempts: " + loadAttempts ); } else { if(loadAttempts <= 5){ console.log(item + " not found. Attempts: " + loadAttempts ); } else { clearInterval(reloadTimer); reloadTimer = false; console.log("Giving up on " + item + "!!"); } } } }

  • Best way to create a collection of a class

    - by smartins
I'm trying to create some classes that allow me to retrieve and manipulate a set of backups my application will create and manage. I've come up with the following code (not tested yet), but I'm not sure if it's the best way of accomplishing this or if there's any easier/better way. I'm using Delphi 2010. I have a class that holds the backup details (TBackupItem), then I need to have a class that will hold a collection of TBackupItem and finally I'll have a class that manages the reading and writing of backups and also exposes a property that accesses the collection of TBackupItem. type TBackupItem = class private FBackupProgram: string; FBackupProgramVersion: string; // There are more variables and properties but for the sake of simplicity I've listed only two public property BackupProgram: string read FBackupProgram write FBackupProgram; property BackupProgramVersion: string read FBackupProgramVersion write FBackupProgramVersion; end; TBackupsList = class(???) private // This class will hold a list of TBackupItem. What should I use to accomplish this? end; TBackupsManager = class(TObject) private FBackups: TBackupsList; public property Backups: TBackupsList read FBackups write FBackups; end; Do you guys have any comments and/or examples on the best way of accomplishing this? Thanks!

  • C# Generic Generics (A Serious Question)

    - by tahirhassan
In C# I am trying to write code where I would be creating a Func delegate which is in itself generic. For example the following (non-Generic) delegate is returning an arbitrary string: Func<string> getString = () => "Hello!"; I on the other hand want to create a generic which acts similarly to generic methods. For example if I want a generic Func to return default(T) for a type T. I would imagine that I write code as follows: Func<T><T> getDefaultObject = <T>() => default(T); Then I would use it as getDefaultObject<string>() which would return null and if I were to write getDefaultObject<int>() would return 0. This question is not merely an academic excercise. I have found numerous places where I could have used this but I cannot get the syntax right. Is this possible? Are there any libraries which provide this sort of functionality?

  • Extending the CI_DB_active_record class in codeigniter 2.0

    - by ctrane
I am writing my first program with Codeigniter, and have run into a problem. I will start with a focused description of the problem and can broaden it if I need to: I need to write a multi-dimensional array to the DB and want to use the insert_batch function from the CI_DB_active_record class to do so. The problem is that I need to write empty values as NULL for some fields while other fields need to be empty strings. The current function wraps all values with single quotes, and I cannot find a way to write null values to the database for specified fields. I would also like to increase the number of records per batch. I see how to extend models, libraries, etc., but is there a way to extend the CI_DB_active_record class without modifying core classes? The minimal amount of core class modification to make this work that I have found is modifying the following lines in the DB.php file (changing the require_once file to the new file that extends the CI_DB_active_record class and changing the CI_DB_active_record class name to the new class name): require_once(BASEPATH.'database/DB_active_rec'.EXT); if ( ! class_exists('CI_DB')) { eval('class CI_DB extends CI_DB_active_record { }'); } Can I do better?

  • PHP cookies in a session handler

    - by steve
I have run into a very interesting problem trying to debug my custom php session handler. For some reason unknown to me I can set cookies all the way through the session handler right up until the very start of the write function. As far as I know session handler calls go in this order. open - read - write - close The open function sets a cookie just fine. function open($save_path,$session_name) { require_once('database.php'); require_once('websiteinfo.php'); mysql_connect($sqllocation,$sql_session_user,$sql_session_pass); @mysql_select_db($sql_default_db); date_default_timezone_set('America/Los_Angeles'); setcookie("test","test"); return TRUE; } The read function can set a cookie right up until the very moment it returns a value. function read($session_id) { $time = time(); $query = "SELECT * FROM 'sessions' WHERE 'expires' > '$time'"; $query_result = mysql_query($query); $data = ''; /* fetch the array and start sifting through it */ while($session_array = mysql_fetch_array($query_result)) { /* strip the slashes from the session array */ $session_array = $this->strip($session_array); /* authenticate the user and if so return the session data */ if($this->auth_check($session_array,$session_id)) { $data = $session_array['data']; } } setcookie("testcookie1","value1",time()+1000,'/'); return $data; } The very first line of the write function is setting another cookie and it cannot because the headers are already sent. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance

  • Determining unknown content-types with the Html5 file api

    - by Jesse
I'm working through a small file upload script (learning experience) and I noticed that when selecting microsoft office related files (.doc or .docx for example) the file objects do not have a type specified: For .doc files I had expected the type to be "application/msword" and along the same train of thought .docx to be "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document". In the cases when the type cannot be determined is the correct course of action to look at the file extension and match that to the "expected" content / mime type? Sample script: <div id="fileUpload"> <input type="file" id="fileElem" style="display:none;" onchange="handleFiles(this.files)"/> <a href="#" id="fileSelect">Select some files</a> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> var fileSelect = document.getElementById("fileSelect"), fileElem = document.getElementById("fileElem"); fileSelect.addEventListener("click", function (e) { if (fileElem) { fileElem.click(); } e.preventDefault(); }, false); function handleFiles(files) { console.log(files); } </script>

  • Updating DIV with XML content on Hover (JQuery)

    - by Andrew Parisi
Hi everyone! The concept of what I'm trying to do is fairly simple. I have a grid of company logos loaded through XSLT from an XML document, each with their own unique links to the company profiles. I have a separate div on the page, essentially a "preview" box. What I want to do is this: I roll over a logo, and it loads the name of the company and a short description into the preview div. This content is loaded through XML. I have been messing around with the Jquery load() function, changing the target document to load on Hover—and it almost gets what I want, but it loads the whole target XML document into the div. How can I separate this target XML data into separate divs? (which I have styled differently) I'd assume I would make use of Ajax in some way. I want to load the <name> node into the name_div, and the <desc> node into the description_div, and have them update on hover. Thanks in advance for the help!

  • xml filtering with python

    - by saminny
Hi, I have a following xml document: <node1> <node2 a1="x1"> ... </node2> <node2 a1="x2"> ... </node2> <node2 a1="x1"> ... </node2> </node1> I want to filter out node2 when a1 = x2. The user provides the xpath and attribute values that need to tested and filtered out. I looked at some solutions in python like BeautifulSoup but they are too complicated and dont preserve the case of text. I want to keep the document same as before with some stuff filtered out. Can you recommend a simple and succinct solution? This should not be too complicated from the looks of it. The actual xml document is not as simple as above but idea is the same.

  • Facebook API - Detect if session is active OR NOT active

    - by Tom Doe
I'm sure I'm simply overlooking something in the Facebook API docs. Basically, after I've loaded the FB Graph, I need to know if the session is active... I cannot simply assume they're logged out and simply re-render if they're logged in once the 'auth.statusChange' event is triggered. I need to know right off the bat. Below is the code that I've used. Most importantly the FB.getLoginStatus/getAuthResponse/getAccessToken don't work like I'd expect; essentially where it indicates, when invoked, whether they're logged in or out. (function(d) { // Create fb-root var fb_root = document.createElement('div'); fb_root.id = "fb-root"; document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild( fb_root ); // Load FB Async var js, id = 'facebook-jssdk', ref = d.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement('script'); js.id = id; js.async = true; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js"; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(js, ref); // App config-data var config = { appId : XXXX, cookie: true, status: true, frictionlessRequests: true }; window.fbAsyncInit = function() { // This won't work. // I can't assume they're logged out and rely on this to tell me they're logged in. FB.Event.subscribe('auth.statusChange', function(response) {}); // Init FB.init(config); // These do not inidicate if the user is logged out :( FB.getLoginStatus(function(response) { }); FB.getAuthResponse(function(response) { }); FB.getAccessToken(function(response) { }); }; }(document)); Any help is much appreciated. :)

  • Javascript variables are not working

    - by linkcool
Hi, my problem is that my variables are not working in javascript. all variables need names without some character at the beginning, this is the stupid thing...Anyways, im trying to make a funtion that makes "select all checkboxes". It is not working so i looked at the page source/info and found out that the variables were not changing. this is my input: echo "<input onclick='checkAll(1);' type='checkbox' name='master'/><br/>"; My function: function checkAll(i) { for(var i=1; i < <?php echo $num; ?>; i++) { if(document.demo.master[i].checked == true) { document.demo.message[i].checked = true; } else { document.demo.message[i].checked = false; } } } so yes that's it. I can tell you that i also tried without the <i> in: checkAll("i") Thanks for the help.

  • JAVA : How to get the positions of all matches in a String?

    - by user692704
I have a text document and a query (the query could be more than one word). I want to find the position of all occurrences of the query in the document. I thought of the documentText.indexOf(query) and using regular expression but I could not make it work. I end up with the following method: First, I have create a dataType called QueryOccurrence public class QueryOccurrence implements Serializable{ public QueryOccurrence(){} private int start; private int end; public QueryOccurrence(int nameStart, int nameEnd,String nameText){ start=nameStart; end=nameEnd; } public int getStart(){ return start; } public int getEnd(){ return end; } public void SetStart(int i){ start=i; } public void SetEnd(int i){ end=i; } } Then, I have used this datatype in the following method: public static List<QueryOccurrence>FindQueryPositions(String documentText, String query){ // Normalize do the following: lower case, trim, and remove punctuation String normalizedQuery = Normalize.Normalize(query); String normalizedDocument = Normalize.Normalize(documentText); String[] documentWords = normalizedDocument.split(" ");; String[] queryArray = normalizedQuery.split(" "); List<QueryOccurrence> foundQueries = new ArrayList(); QueryOccurrence foundQuery = new QueryOccurrence(); int index = 0; for (String word : documentWords) { if (word.equals(queryArray[0])){ foundQuery.SetStart(index); } if (word.equals(queryArray[queryArray.length-1])){ foundQuery.SetEnd(index); if((foundQuery.End()-foundQuery.Start())+1==queryArray.length){ //add the found query to the list foundQueries.add(foundQuery); //flush the foundQuery variable to use it again foundQuery= new QueryOccurrence(); } } index++; } return foundQueries; } This method return a list of all occurrence of the query in the document each one with its position. Could you suggest any easer and faster way to accomplish this task. Thanks

  • Clarification of a some code

    - by Legend
I have come across a website that appears to use Ajax but does not include any js file except one file called ajax.js which has the following: function run(c, f, b, a, d) { var e = null; if (b && f) { document.getElementById(b).innerHTML = f } if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { e = new XMLHttpRequest() } else { if (window.ActiveXObject) { e = new ActiveXObject(Microsoft.XMLHTTP) } } e.onreadystatechange = function () { if (e.readyState == 4) { if (e.status == 200 || e.statusText == "OK") { if (b) { document.getElementById(b).innerHTML = e.responseText } if (a) { setTimeout(a, 0) } } else { console.log("AJAX Error: " + e.status + " | " + e.statusText); if (b && d != 1) { document.getElementById(b).innerHTML = "AJAX Error. Please try refreshing." } } } }; e.open("GET", c, true); e.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); e.send(null) } Like you might have guessed, the way it issues queries inside the page with queries like this: run('page.php',loadingText,'ajax-test', 'LoadSamples()'); I must admit that this is the first time I've seen a page from which I could not figure how things are being done. I have a few questions: Is this Server-Side Ajax or something similar? If not, can someone clarify what exactly is this? Why does one use this? Is it for hiding the design details? (which are otherwise revealed in plain text by javascript) How difficult would it be to convert my existing application into this design pattern? (maybe a subjective question but any short suggestion will do) Any suggestions?

  • Codeigniter xss_clean dilemma

    - by Henson
I know this question has been asked over and over again, but I still haven't found the perfect answer for my liking, so here it goes again... I've been reading lots and lots polarizing comments about CI's xss_filter. Basically majority says that it's bad. Can someone elaborate how it's bad, or at least give 1 most probable scenario where it can be exploited? I've looked at the security class in CI 2.1 and I think it's pretty good as it doesn't allow malicious strings like document.cookie, document.write, etc. If the site has basically non-html presentation, is it safe to use global xss_filter (or if it's REALLY affecting performance that much, use it on per form post basis) before inserting to database ? I've been reading about pros and cons about whether to escape on input/output with majority says that we should escape on output only. But then again, why allow strings like <a href="javascript:stealCookie()">Click Me</a> to be saved in the database at all? The one thing I don't like is javascript: and such will be converted to [removed]. Can I extend the CI's security core $_never_allowed_str arrays so that the never allowed strings return empty rather than [removed]. The best reasonable wrongdoing example of this I've read is if a user has password of javascript:123 it will be cleaned into [removed]123 which means string like this document.write123 will also pass as the user's password. Then again, what is the odds of that to happen and even if it happens, I can't think of any real harm that can do to the site. Thanks

I have found below example while practicing javascript. <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function changeTabIndex() { document.getElementById('1').tabIndex="3" document.getElementById('2').tabIndex="2" document.getElementById('3').tabIndex="1" } </script> </head> <body> <p><a id="1" href="http://www.w3schools.com">1</a></p> <p><a id="2" href="http://www.w3schools.com">2</a></p> <p><a id="3" href="http://www.w3schools.com">3</a></p> <input type="button" onclick="changeTabIndex()" value="Change TabIndex" /> </body> </html> What's my doubt is, naming conventions for id attribute must start with an alphabet followed by numbers and underscore. But in this example even though they used numbers as id's the code working fine. Then what is the need of following naming conventions. It seems to be simple but anyone please clarify it.

  • Why I cannot get the output of ftp.exe ?

    - by smwikipedia
I execute the ftp.exe cmd through a C# System.Diagnostics.Process type. And I use the following code to get the "ftp.exe" output after I programmatically enter a "help" command. But I can only get the first line of the result. And I never get to the "end" output part. The whole program seems blocked. Process p = new Process(); p.StartInfo.FileName = @"C:\Windows\System32\ftp.exe"; p.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; p.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true; p.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true; p.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = true; p.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; p.Start(); p.StandardInput.WriteLine("help"); Int32 c_int = p.StandardOutput.Read(); while (c_int != -1) { Char c = (Char)c_int; Console.Write(c); c_int = p.StandardOutput.Read(); } Console.WriteLine("end"); However, I write a simple program which only use Console.Writeline() to write some output to its StdOut stream. And I test it with the above code. It works fine. I just cannot figure out why the above code cannot work with ftp.exe? The only difference between my SimpleConsoleOutput program and the "ftp.exe" is that the ftp.exe has its own interactive command prompt.
