I've got a utility that outputs a list of files required by a game. How can I run that utility within a C program and grab its output so I can act on it within the same program?
UPDATE: Good call on the lack of information. The utility spits out a series of strings, and this is supposed to be complete portable across Mac/Windows/Linux. Please note, I'm looking for a programmatic way to execute the utility and retain its output (which goes to stdout).
Is there a way to draw on the iPhone screen (on a UIView in a UIWindow) outside of that view's drawRect() method? If so, how do I obtain the graphics context?
The graphics guide mentions class NSGraphicsContext, but the relevant chapter seems like a blind copy/paste from Mac OS X docs, and there's no such class in iPhone SDK.
I know that #pragma once is non-standard, however it is supported by most compilers. So on my Mac I can compile C++ code with headers that use #pragma once on the command line using clang++. The strange thing however is that it does not seem to work within Xcode. I get Invalid preprocessing directive when I try to use #pragma once.
I am using the newest version of OSX (10.8.2) and Xcode (Version 4.5.1 (4G1004)).
Back when I was at school, I remember tinkering with a Mac game where you programmed little robots in a sort of pseudo-assembler language which could then battle each other. They could move themselves around the arena, look for opponents in different directions, and fire some sort of weapon. Pretty basic stuff, but I remember it quite fondly, even if I can't remember the name.
Are there any good modern day equivalents?
I've been trying to to consume SOAP requests (.NET web services) and have found some pretty good tools that I wanted to share:
1) http://grabalife.com/2009/10/19/using-net-web-services-and-dataset-objects-in-your-iphone-app/
Really easy clean way to perform all the call needed for consuming the services.
2) http://code.google.com/p/mac-soapclient/
SOAP Client uses WSDL files you provide to dynamically create a graphical user interface for any given SOAP-based web service
Hopefully that will help someone as much as me!!!
Happy coding !
I need to start building an Android app that uses the JUCE libraries. I'm reading the web site and trying to figure stuff out.
I tried installing JUCE on an Ubuntu 11.04 system, and when I built the IntroJucer app, the menus don't work right (they flash open when I click with the mouse but then disappear). Can a JUCE app for Android be built on Mac OS X, or even Windows?
If you are using JUCE to build Android apps, please give me any advice you can.
I was wondering if there was any kind of portable (Mac&Windows) method of reading and writing to the hard drive which goes beyond iostream.h, in particular features like getting a list of all the files in a folder, moving files around, ect.
I was hoping that there would be something like SDL around, but so far I havn't been able to find much.
Any ideas??
GoogleAppEngineLauncher can display the local log file of my app while it is running on my Mac during development. However, I can't change the font size there so I would like to use the tail command to watch the log file myself.
It's a shame but I can't find the log files. They are not under /var/log/, ~/Library/Logs or /Library/Logs. Do you know where they are?
Does wx provide a handy way to get anything like this in a platform-independent way? I don't think C++ libs themselves provide anything.
I don't have a definite idea what should be used for the unique ID... MAC address is common but what else could be used?
Developing a mac app, how can I tell whether the user is currently at their computer or not? Or how long ago they last pressed a key or moved the mouse?
This is more of a curiosity question than something that needs actual solving, but is there a way to determine how many cores a machine has from C++ in a platform-independent way? If no such thing exists, what about determining it per-platform (Windows/*nix/Mac)?
Hey can someone help find a list of what some good looking fonts are that are not really standard but like
I'd find a font that is common to gnome or w/e
and mac and windows. So then I have 3 different fonts for css or like a big number and id order them in how much i like
.
I installed emacs 23.3.1 in c:/emacs-23.3.
Following the hints in this page, I updated the site-start.el to set HOME environment variable.
(setenv "HOME" "c:/users/USER/emacs")
And I made c:/users/USER/.emacs (like I did in unix/mac) to write the code for using slime, but it doesn't seem to start slime correctly.
Is this a correct way of setting emacs in Windows 7? Where do I put the .emacs file?
Is there a way to develop iPhone applications on Windows? I really don't want to get yet another machine.
There is a project on http://code.google.com/p/winchain/wiki/HowToUse that seemed to work with iPhone 1.0, but had limited success with iPhone 2.0, plus it requires all the cygwin insanity.
Is there anything else, or do I have to buy a mac?
I am looking to increase the size of my iPad simulator when it is fired up on my mac, how would I go about doing this?
The size of the simulator right now is very very small, I can't even see the text on it!
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to limit the CPU usage by any application on Windows 7 to 50%. I've tried searching the Internet for a way to do this, and it looks like this is an easy thing to do on Linux and Mac OS X (one command in the terminal) but I'm not sure how to do it on Windows 7. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm using aquaterm 1.0.1 through octave and gnuplot - on my mac - to generate printable plots. When aquaterm generates my plots, it has a habit of cutting off or cropping all of the titles and axis labels.
Is there another imaging program that works with octave that won't have this problem? Or are there other fixes I haven't thought of?
Hi,
Each time i launch the properties panel i get this error:

I have tried to use a fresh new workspace & a new install of eclipse without any result.
I am on mac OS X.

I would like to use a GUI app on my Mac (Changes http://connectedflow.com/changes/) to resolve merge conflicts when using Mercurial via SSH on my server.
What is the most straightforward way to achieve this without cloning the repository locally?
The term has several definition according to Wikipedia, however what I'm really interested in is creating a program that has all its needed dependencies included within the source folder, so the end user doesn't need to install additional libraries for the app to install. For example, how Mac apps has all its dependencies all within the program itself already...
or is there a function that autotools does this? I'm programming in the Linux environment...
How are \r and \n different. I think it has something to do with Unix vs. Windows vs. Mac, but I'm not sure how exactly they're difference, and which to search for/match in regexes.
I have install apache, php and mysql on Mac 10.8.1.

Usually work in Windows, but trying to setup RabbitMQ on my Mac. Can someone let me know what the line below does?
[ "x" = "x$RABBITMQ_NODE_IP_ADDRESS" ] && [ "x" != "x$NODE_IP_ADDRESS" ] && RABBITMQ_NODE_IP_ADDRESS=${NODE_IP_ADDRESS}
Specifically, I'm curious about the [ "x" = "x$RAB..."] syntax.
I'm looking for a C library that provides generic collection data structures such as lists, associative arrays, sets, etc. The library should be stable and well tested. I'm basically looking for something better than the crappy C standard library.
What C libraries fit this description?
EDIT: I'd prefer that the library was cross-platform, but failing that, anything that works on Mac/Linux.
