• Trouble parsing quotes with SAX parser (javax.xml.parsers.SAXParser)

  When using a SAX parser, parsing fails when there is a " in the node content. How can I resolve this? Do I need to convert all " characters? In other words, anytime I have a quote in a node: <node>characters in node containing "quotes"</node> That node gets butchered into multiple character arrays when the Handler is parsing it. Is this normal behaviour? Why should quotes cause such a problem? • Having trouble coming up with a good architecture for a client/server application

  I am writing a remote backup service meant to support 1000+ users. It is going to use librsync to store reverse diffs (like rdiff-backup) and make data transfer efficient. My trouble is that I do not know the "best" way to implement the client/server model. I have thought of doing it like rsync/rdiff-backup do it by having the client open an SSH connection and running a server executable and communicating across pipes. Another alternative would be to write a server which would handle authentication and communicate with the client via SSL. The reason I have thought of this is that there is "state" information like how many backup jobs are setup, etc. that must be maintained. Another alternative that I have thought about is running a "web service" using Pylons or Django to handle the authentication, but I do not know how to bridge that the the "storage" side. Since I am using librsync, I cannot use "dumb" storage. Is there a way to pipe data through Pylons or Django to a server side handler that would do the rsync calculation? This seems to me like maybe a dumb question but I am sort of lost. Any tips or suggestions from more experienced developers would be extremely helpful.

• java BufferedReader specific length returns NUL characters

  I have a TCP socket client receiving messages (data) from a server. messages are of the type length (2 bytes) + data (length bytes), delimited by STX & ETX characters. I'm using a bufferedReader to retrieve the two first bytes, decode the length, then read again from the same bufferedReader the appropriate length and put the result in a char array. most of the time, I have no problem, but SOMETIMES (1 out of thousands of messages received), when attempting to read (length) bytes from the reader, I get only part of it, the rest of my array being filled with "NUL" characters. I imagine it's because the buffer has not yet been filled. char[] bufLen = new char[2]; _bufferedReader.read(bufLen); int len = decodeLength(bufLen); char[] _rawMsg = new char[len]; _bufferedReader.read(_rawMsg); return _rawMsg; I solved the problem in several iterative ways: first I tested the last char of my array: if it wasn't ETX I would read chars from the bufferedReader one by one until I would reach ETX, then start over my regular routine. the consequence is that I would basically DROP one message. then, in order to still retrieve that message, I would find the first occurence of the NUL char in my "truncated" message, read & store additional characters one at a time until I reached ETX, and append them to my "truncated" messages, confirming length is ok. it works also, but I'm really thinking there's something I could do better, like checking if the total number of characters I need are available in the buffer before reading it, but can't find the right way to do it... any idea / pointer ? thanks !

The question is how to cascade delete them(i.e. when remove folder2 all children are also deleted). I can't set an ON DELETE action because MSSQL does not allow it. Can you give some suggesions?   I have a DownloadManager class that manages multiple DownloadItem objects. Each DownloadItem has events like ProgressChanged and DownloadCompleted. Usually you want to use the same event handler for all download items, so it's a bit annoying to have to set the event handlers over and over again for each DownloadItem. • Excel COM Add-In dialog interrupts script

  Hi all! I have written an Excel COM Add-In in C++ for automation of Excel with VBA. It contains an own dialog showing some general informations about the Add-In. Now i create a button in Excel that opens the dialog. Leaving the dialog with the escape key leads to an Excel message that the script is being interrupted instead of just closing the dialog. I could suppress the interruption message with: Application.EnableCancelKey = xlDisabled But that seems not to be the solution as the script can not be interrupted any more. • Create a dynamic project template in VS 2010?

  This might sound a bit of an odd question but I know what I want to achieve, just don't know if it's possible. Firstly, I'd like to be able to create a visual studio project that the 2 developers that work with me can use as a basis for all new websites. I want to drop all the common files that we use in there, like jQuery, CMS files etc. so that every time they start a new project they don't have to worry about all of that stuff. I guess to do this I just set up a project and "File Export Template" ? Now, here's the tricky bit... When you open up one of the default templates in VS it asks you a few questions, such as if you want to use a master page or if you want to use code behind etc. What I would like to do is set up something similar so that when you use the project template it asks you what version of jQuery you want to use so that it can import the right file, or for example it might ask you if you want to include certain user controls that the CMS contains. If you tick the box then the folder with the necessary user controls would be put in your new project for you. I know MS can do this but can a user like me include functionality like that in my own project template? Hope that makes sense.

• Windows Phone - OnNavigatingFrom - problem

  I believe this is just a problem for me, due to my lack of programming ability. I am currently exploring transitions between page navigation with Windows Phone apps. I was originally using storyboards, and completed event handlers to have my pages animate on and off screen. These leads to the a problem when you want to navigate to many pages from one page, using the same transition. So I have started looking at OnNavigatedTo, and OnNavigatingFrom events and while it is working nicely for OnNavigatedTo, the later just wont work. It seems the Microsoft.Phone.Navigation assembly does not contain OnNavigatingFrom, and referencing System.Windows.Navigation, compiles ok, but I cant get pages to animate off upon navigation. I have a button on my Page2, which I want to go back to my MainPage (after I over-rided the back key with a message box for testing). I have transitions made on the page, and I have this as the event handler code... private void btnP2_BackToP1Clicked(object sender, System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs e) { NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("/MainPage.xaml", UriKind.Relative)); } With this code for the OnNavigatedTo and OnNavigatingFrom events... protected override void OnNavigatedTo(PhoneNavigationEventArgs e) { PageTransition_In.Begin(); } // // protected override void OnNavigatingFrom(NavigatingCancelEventArgs e) { PageTransition_Out.Begin(); base.OnNavigatingFrom(e); } I have the feeling that OnNavigatingFrom may not(yet) be supported for Windows Phone Apps. OnNavigatedFrom is part of Microsoft.Phone.Navigation, but it only performs actions once the page is no longer active, which is too late to perform any animation effects.

• What would be the safest way to store objects of classes derived from a common interface in a common

  I'd like to manage a bunch of objects of classes derived from a shared interface class in a common container. To illustrate the problem, let's say I'm building a game which will contain different actors. Let's call the interface IActor and derive Enemy and Civilian from it. Now, the idea is to have my game main loop be able to do this: // somewhere during init std::vector<IActor> ActorList; Enemy EvilGuy; Civilian CoolGuy; ActorList.push_back(EvilGuy); ActorList.push_back(CoolGuy); and // main loop while(!done) { BOOST_FOREACH(IActor CurrentActor, ActorList) { CurrentActor.Update(); CurrentActor.Draw(); } } ... or something along those lines. This example obviously won't work but that is pretty much the reason I'm asking here. I'd like to know: What would be the best, safest, highest-level way to manage those objects in a common heterogeneous container? I know about a variety of approaches (Boost::Any, void*, handler class with boost::shared_ptr, Boost.Pointer Container, dynamic_cast) but I can't decide which would be the way to go here. Also I'd like to emphasize that I want to stay away as far as possible from manual memory management or nested pointers. Help much appreciated :).

• Does WPF break an Entity Framework ObjectContext?

  I am getting started with Entity Framework 4, and I am getting ready to write a WPF demo app to learn EF4 better. My LINQ queries return IQueryable<T>, and I know I can drop those into an ObservableCollection<T> with the following code: IQueryable<Foo> fooList = from f in Foo orderby f.Title select f; var observableFooList = new ObservableCollection<Foo>(fooList); At that point, I can set the appropriate property on my view model to the observable collection, and I will get WPF data binding between the view and the view model property. Here is my question: Do I break the ObjectContext when I move my foo list to the observable collection? Or put another way, assuming I am otherwise handling my ObjectContext properly, will EF4 properly update the model (and the database)? The reason why I ask is this: NHibernate tracks objects at the collection level. If I move an NHibernate IList<T> to an observable collection, it breaks NHibernate's change tracking mechanism. That means I have to do some very complicated object wrapping to get NHibernate to work with WPF. I am looking at EF4 as a way to dispense with all that. So, to get EF4 working with WPF, is it as simple as dropping my IQueryable<T> results into an ObservableCollection<T>. Does that preserve change-tracking on my EDM entity objects? • Django upload failing on request data read error

  Hi All, I've got a Django app that accepts uploads from jQuery uploadify, a jQ plugin that uses flash to upload files and give a progress bar. Files under about 150k work, but bigger files always fail and almost always at around 192k (that's 3 chunks) completed, sometimes at around 160k.   Hi, There are plenty similar questions, but maybe responses to this one will save a developer's life :) I want to migrate to Java. The reasons are very clear: all the .NET vacancies are client and windows oriented (Silverlight developer, ASP.NET developer, WPF developer etc.) and none of them are any interest to me. I worked with .NET since it's beginning as our company decided to invest in .NET having C++ stack and all the natual problems, so I was just blindly following and actually enjoyed it as the products were mostly server oriented with mixed C++/C# code. Today I have beforementioned problem - can't find an inspiring job. I'd rather kill myself than start working on a Silverlight or WPF project. Searching Java vacancies shows promising results, however they all require a huge java-related technology stack and experience. The question is is there any chance to find a job quickly and without dramatic salary drop (I know that Java guys are usually better paid, so there must be a kind of a credit) and if not, how must time and effort does it take to migrate (my .NET knowledge mostly includes server-oriented technologies like NHibernate, WCF, threading, sockets, ASP.NET web services, Enterprise Library, NInject etc etc etc, and (still) some C++ leftovers).   Hello, I have following setup Apache Box <=> Weblogic Box1 <=> Weblogic Box2 Apache Box : mod_weblogic(weblogic apache plugin), mod_deflate Weblogic Box1 : Weblogic 10.3 Weblogic Portal, Adobe BlazeDS Weblogic Box2 : Weblogic 10.3 SUN Jersey for REST API Apache forwards the request to Box1, where some of the REST requests get forwarded to Box 2 by Adobe BlazeDS. On Apache i have setup mod_deflate and mod_weblogic as follows: <IfModule mod_weblogic.c> WebLogicHost portalappeng.xxx.com WebLogicPort 7001 </IfModule> <Location /Portal> SetHandler weblogic-handler SetOutputFilter DEFLATE </Location> but when i look at the Apache deflate log i only see the jsp responses from Box1 being compressed, but the responses which BlazeDS forwarded to Box 2 are not compressed. Also the .js and .css files which are served from Box1 are not compressed Here are sample from log file, first response came directly from Box1 and got compressed, second and third also from Box1 but not compressed. Fourth one came from Box 2 to Box 1(BlazeDS) and then to Apache, not compressed. What am i missing? • .NET CF -- Set Form height based on InputPanel state

  Hi, So, I've got a C# project for Windows Mobile phones and I'm trying to work with the InputPanel. Specifically, I've got one form with a stack of Labels and TextBoxes that collect user input. I have an InputPanel that alerts me when the user opens the SIP. Everything works fine so far. When I get messages that the SIP status has changed, I want to change the height of the Form, which doesn't seem possible. Here's my event handler for my InputPanel: void m_InputPanel_EnabledChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { // :( this assignment operation doesn't work and it doesn't this.ClientSize = inputPanel1.VisibleDesktop.Size; // doesn't work this.Size = inputPanel1.VisibleDesktop.Size; // assignment operation works, but isn't very useful this.visibleHeight = inputPanel1.VisibleDesktop.Height; this.InitializeUI(); } When I say that the assignment operation doesn't work, I mean that the values don't change in the debugger. I can understand that maybe I can't change the size of a Form, but I can't understand why trying to change it wouldn't throw an exception, or give a compiler error. I have my Form WindowState set to Normal instead of Maximized, but it doesn't make a difference. Also, I have read http://www.christec.co.nz/blog/archives/42 this page that tells me how I'm supposed to do this, but I can't easily put all of my controls in a Panel because I'm using a bunch of custom stuff to do alpha background controls.

• Help me re-center a ModalPopup within an iframe when the iframe's parent window scrolls

  I have a web page with an iframe in it (I don't like it, but that's the way it has to be). It's not a cross-domain iframe so there's nothing to worry about there. I have written a jQuery extension that does the centering of a ModalPopup (which is called from an overridden AjaxControlToolkit.ModalPopupBehavior._layout method) based on the width and height of the iframe's parent, so that it looks centered even though the iframe is not in the center of the page. It's a lot of tricky stuff, especially since the web page I added the iframe to runs in quirks mode. Now, I've also overridden AjaxControlToolkit.ModalPopupBehavior._attachPopup, so that when the parent window resizes or scrolls, the ModalPopup inside of the iframe recenter's itself relative to the new size of the parent window. However, the same code that attaches the popup to the parent window's resize event does NOT work for the parent window's scroll event. • Is it possible to make a persistent connection between a Python web service and a .Net WCF Client?

  I have a .Net 3.5 SOAP client written in C# using the WCF. It's expecting basicHTTPBinding and a persistent connection with HTTP/1.1. I'm trying to create a Python 2.6 application that will act as a web-service for the client. My problem is that the client keeps closing the connection and opening a new one for every command to the web service. How does the .Net WCF client know to stay open when connecting with a .Net Service? When I create a dummy .Net web service the client connects fine and the connection remains persistent. From what I can tell, when connected to a .Net server, there are no special HTTP headers being sent, that makes sense since HTTP/1.1 assumes a persistent connection unless otherwise specified (right?). However, with the python web service I accept/open a connection and eventually the client will send a TCP FIN and the connection will close (the client never sends a FIN or RST when connecting to a .Net service). The communication goes something like this: Incoming -- HTTP Header for SOAP Command #1 Outgoing -- HTTP Header with a Continue Incoming -- Body of Command #1 Outgoing -- ACK Command #1 (HTTP headers and body) Incoming -- HTTP Header for SOAP Command #2 Outgoing -- HTTP Header with a Continue Incoming -- TCP FIN <Connection closes> <New connection opens and SOAP command #2 (with full HTTP headers) is sent> I'm using a SocketServer.ThreadingTCPServer as the server and a BaseHTTPServer.BaseHTTPRequestHandler for any requests. The handler is actually a derived class of that with a do_POST method to handle the HTTP headers. I've looked at WireShark captures and I'm stumped. I've tried setting socket options to SO_KEEPALIVE and SO_REUSEADDR in the server but that didn't seem to change anything. What am I missing?

Then I found that I should change in From <add key="ChartImageHandler" value="storage=file;timeout=20;dir=c:\TempImageFiles\;" /> To <add key="ChartImageHandler" value="storage=file;timeout=20;" /> I am not able to find this section in my web.config file. So I tried to add it under section but it gave me error that it is an invalid child Likewise, I tried adding it under section, it too gave the same error... So, I added sepeartely, Then I am not able to see anything.. The webpage is just blank... What should I have to do.. Can anyone tell me "how to solve it"
