  • Is there a better loop I could write to reduce database queries?

    - by dmanexe
    Below is some code I've written that is effective, but makes too many database queries. Is there a way I could optimize and reduce the number of queries but have conditional statements still be as effective as below? I pasted the code repeated a few times just for good measure. echo "<h3>Pool Packages</h3>"; echo "<ul>"; foreach ($items as $item): $this->db->where('id', $item['id']); $query = $this->db->get('items')->row(); if ($item['quantity'] > 1 && $item['quantity'] == TRUE && $query->category == "Pool Packages") { $newprice = $item['quantity'] * $query->price; $totals[] = $newprice; } else { $newprice = $query->price; $totals[] = $newprice; } if ($query->category == "Pool Packages") { echo "<li>" . $query->name . " (QTY: " . $item['quantity'] . " x = " . str_ireplace(" ", "", money_format('%(#10n', $newprice)) . ")</li>"; } else { } endforeach; echo "</ul>"; echo "<h3>Water Features</h3>"; echo "<ul>"; foreach ($items as $item): $this->db->where('id', $item['id']); $query = $this->db->get('items')->row(); if ($item['quantity'] > 1 && $item['quantity'] == TRUE && $query->category == "Water Features") { $newprice = $item['quantity'] * $query->price; $totals[] = $newprice; } else { $newprice = $query->price; $totals[] = $newprice; } if ($query->category == "Water Features") { echo "<li>" . $query->name .   • how can I split up this string

    - by lacrosse1991
    I am currently trying to sanitize some log files so they are in an easier format to read, and have been trying to use the gnu cut command, which works fairly well, although I cannot really think of a good way to remove the [INFO] part of the string logs/logs/server_1283258036.log:2010-08-31 23:06:51 [INFO] <NateMar> where?! logs/logs/server_1281904775.log:2010-08-15 22:59:53 [INFO] <BoonTheMoon> §b<BoonTheMoon>§ohhhhhh I would ultimately want to get the strings down to something that resembles the following 2010-08-31 23:06:51 <NateMar> where?! 2010-08-15 22:59:53 <BoonTheMoon> ohhhhhh how should I go about doing this? Have thought about using awk, although Im having a difficult time getting a grip on how that would work, so not sure how to set up something to do that, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Javascript string.replace with regex

    - by Jimbo
    I want to replace a url querystring parameter with a new value if it already exists or add it on if not. e.g. The current url could be: a. www.mysite.com/whatever.asp?page=5&version=1 OR b. www.mysite.com/whatever.asp?version=1 I need the resulting url to be www.mysite.com/whatever.asp?page=1&version=1 I suspect I can use string.replace with a regex to do this the most intelligent way but am hoping for a little help with it from someone more experienced with regexs :) Thanks!

  • VB.Net Split A Group Of Text

  • reading a line, tokenizing and assigning to struct in C

    - by Dervin Thunk
    line is fgets'd, and running in a while loop with counter n, d is a struct with 2 char arrays, p and q. Basically, in a few words, I want to read a line, separate it into 2 strings, one up until the first space, and the rest of the line. I clean up afterwards (\n from the file becomes \'0'). The code works, but is there a more idiomatic way to do this? What errors am I running into "unknowingly"? int spc = strcspn(line," "); strncpy(d[n].p, line, spc); d[n].p[spc+1]='\0'; int l = strlen(line)-spc; strncpy(d[n].q, line+spc+1, l); char* nl = strchr(d[n].q, '\n'); if(nl){ *nl='\0'; } n++; Thanks.

  • "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" in image and array storage

    - by totalconscience
    I am currently working on an image processing demonstration in java (Applet). I am running into the problem where my arrays are too large and I am getting the "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" error. The algorithm I run creates an NxD float array where: N is the number of pixel in the image and D is the coordinates of each pixel plus the colorspace components of each pixel (usually 1 for grayscale or 3 for RGB). For each iteration of the algorithm it creates one of these NxD float arrays and stores it for later use in a vector, so that the user of the applet may look at the individual steps. My client wants the program to be able to load a 500x500 RGB image and run as the upper bound. There are about 12 to 20 iterations per run so that means I need to be able to store a 12x500x500x5 float in some fashion. Is there a way to process all of this data and, if possible, how? Example of the issue: I am loading a 512 by 512 Grayscale image and even before the first iteration completes I run out of heap space. The line it points me to is: Y.add(new float[N][D]) where Y is a Vector and N and D are described as above. This is the second instance of the code using that line.

  • ArrayList and Map problem in grails

    - by xain
    Hi, I have a service that contains a map: static Map cargosMap = ['1':'item1','2':'item 2','3':'item 3'] that is returned via a method in the service: static Map getCargos() { [cargosMap] } A controller calls it like this: def mform = { Map cargos = empService.getCargos() [cargos:cargos] } In the gsp, I have the select: <g:select name="cg1" from="${cargos}" /> But I'm getting the exception: Error 500: Executing action ....caused exception: org.codehaus.groovy.runtime.typehandling.GroovyCastException: Cannot cast object ... with class 'java.util.ArrayList' to class 'java.util.Map' Any clues ? • Transmogrify into date from multiple columns

    - by Dave Jarvis
    What is a better way to program the following SQL: str_to_date( concat(convert(D.DAY, CHAR(2)), '-', convert(M.MONTH, CHAR(2)), '-', convert(M.YEAR, CHAR(4))), '%e-%m-%Y' ) as AMOUNT_DATE I want to convert the columns D.DAY, M.MONTH, and M.YEAR to a date field using MySQL. The above works, but seems much more complicated than it needs to be. (If there's an ANSI SQL way to do it, that would be even better.) Thank you!

  • Regex - Trim character at the end of a string

    - by Torez
    I am trying to remove a trailing - (dash) at the end of the string. Here is my code: <?php $str = 'SAVE $45! - Wed. Beach Co-ed 6s (Jul-Aug)'; echo ereg_replace('([^a-z0-9]+)','-',strtolower($str)); ?> produces this: save-45-wed-beach-co-ed-6s-jul-aug- How can I remove a specific trailing character only if its there, in this case the dash? Thanks in advance.

  • Nice way to break a reply up into pieces in ruby

    - by ChaosR
    Hello, I'm writing an IRCd. For this topic it doesn't really matter if you know much about IRC. Its a simple code style problem. Quick overview of the problem: No message may be longer than 512 characters If the message is more, it must be broken into pieces The NAMES reply sends all the nicknames of users on a channel, and quickly grows beyond 512 characters. I currently concocted this marvelous piece of code, it works perfectly. However, its just not "ruby-like". This piece of code is more what you expect in some piece of C code. # 11 is the number of all fixed characters combined in the reply pre_length = 11 + servername.length + mynick.length + channel.name.length list = [""] i = 0 channel.nicks.each do |nick, client| list[i+=1] = "" if list[i].length + nick.length + pre_length > 500 list[i] << "#{channel.mode_char(client)}#{client.nick} " end list.each { |l| send_numeric(RPL_NAMREPLY, channel.name, l.strip) } send_numeric(RPL_ENDOFNAMES, channel.name) So my question is, any ideas to do this more nicely? PS. code has been slightly modified to make it easier to understand out-of-context

  • What is the correct method to load an XML file and re-write it as a CSV? (C# Only)

    - by codesmack
    I have a XML file that I want to load into an unknown object type. (I say unknown object type because I am not sure what direction to go) Once I have the data loaded I need to do some processing on certain elements that are now loaded into the new object. For sake of example, we can say that the xml file is full of elements named <car> and within the car element I need to process the <mileage> element. Then once this is all done I need to write the file as a CSV file. I would like to do this is the most direct way possible. (The less code the better) I am using VS 2008 C#

  • How to do elif statments more elegantly if appending to array in python

    - by user1741339
    I am trying to do a more elegant version of this code. This just basically appends a string to categorynumber depending on the number. Would appreciate any help. number = [100,150,200,500] categoryNumber = [] for i in range (0,len(number)): if (number [i] >=1000): categoryNumber.append('number > 1000') elif (number [i] >=200): categoryNumber.append('200 < number < 300') elif (number [i] >=100): categoryNumber.append('100 < number < 200') elif (number [i] >=50): categoryNumber.append('50 < number < 100') elif (number [i] < 50): categoryNumber.append('number < 50') for i in range(0,len(categoryNumber)): print i

  • Detecting similar words among n text documents

    - by javanes
    Hi; I have n documents and want to find common words that are included in these documents. For example I want to say (n-3) documents include the word "web". Certainly I can do this by basic data structures but there maybe efficient algorithm or a way to handle same words with different suffix. Is there any algorithm for such purposes? I am unfamiliar with datamining world. In general manner is there a term used for efforts of finding similarities between different documents? If there is then I will make my research easily. Thanks.

  • C++ read registry string value in char*

    - by Sunny
    I'm reading a registry value like this: char mydata[2048]; DWORD dataLength = sizeof(mydata); DWORD dwType = REG_SZ; ..... open key, etc ReqQueryValueEx(hKey, keyName, 0, &dwType, (BYTE*)mydata, &dataLength); My problem is, that after this, mydata content looks like: [63, 00, 3A, 00, 5C, 00...], i.e. this looks like a unicode?!?!. I need to convert this somehow to be a normal char array, without these [00], as they fail a simple logging function I have. I.e. if I call like this: WriteMessage(mydata), it outputs only "c", which is the first char in the registry. I have calls to this logging function all over the place, so I'd better of not modify it, but somehow "fix" the registry value. Here is the log function: void Logger::WriteMessage(const char *msg) { time_t now = time(0); struct tm* tm = localtime(&now); std::ofstream logFile; logFile.open(filename, std::ios::out | std::ios::app); if ( logFile.is_open() ) { logFile << tm->tm_mon << '/' << tm->tm_mday << '/' << tm->tm_year << ' '; logFile << tm->tm_hour << ':' << tm->tm_min << ':' << tm->tm_sec << "> "; logFile << msg << "\n"; logFile.close(); } }

  • Ignoring characters in a file while parsing

    - by sfactor
    i need to parse through a text file and process the data. the valid data is usually denoted by either a timestamp with TS followed by 10 numbers (TS1040501134) or values with a alpabet followed by nine numbers (A098098098)...so it will be like TS1040501134A111111111B222222222...........TS1020304050A000000000........ However, there are cases when there will be filler 0s when there is no data. So, such a case might be 00000000000000000000TS1040501134A111111111B2222222220000000000TS1020304050A000000000........` Now as we can see I need to ignore these zeros. how might i do this? I am using gnu C.

  • PHP PDO Parameters from a function returned array

    - by noko
    I've got a function written that runs a query based on parameters passed to the function. I can't seem to figure out why doing the following returns a result: function test($function_returned_array) { $variable = 'Hello World'; $sql = 'SELECT `name`, `pid` FROM `products` WHERE `name` IN (?)'; $found = $this->db->get_array($sql, $variable); } While this doesn't return any results: function test2($function_returned_array) { $sql = 'SELECT `name`, `pid` FROM `products` WHERE `name` IN (?)'; $found = $this->db->get_array($sql, $function_returned_array[0]); } $function_returned_array[0] is also equal to 'Hello World'. Shouldn't they both return the same results? When I echo the values of $variable and $function_returned_array[0], they are both 'Hello World' Here's the relevant parts of my PDO wrapper: public function query(&$query, $params) { $sth = $this->_db->prepare($query); if(is_null($params)) { $sth->execute(); } else if(is_array($params)) { $sth->execute($params); } else { $sth->execute(array($params)); } $this->_rows = $sth->rowCount(); $this->_counter++; return $sth; } public function get_array(&$query, $params, $style = PDO::FETCH_ASSOC) { $q = $this->query($query, $params); return $q->fetchAll($style); } I'm using PHP 5.3.5. Any help would be appreciated.
