  • Is there other usage of Comcast extension cable and splitter?

    I have an unused Comcast high-speed internet self-install kit from 2006. It has two coils of extension cable, and a splitter, and some screws. The name of the cable is "extension cable" printed on the package. I wonder if that is its actual name? As ethernet cables are always useful, I wonder if the extension cables are totally worthless and should be tossed into a trash can? Or are they usable for some other purposes, or even sellable?   • Fiber-Optic Cable Trick Brings Remote Triggering to Older Flashes

    Many older flashes lack for a jack to input a sync cable and rely exclusively on a simple slave mode triggered by the primary flash. This hack uses a piece of scrap fiber optic cable to trigger the flash in bright conditions. Using a flash as an optical slave indoors isn’t much of a problem, but if you introduce bright light (such as outdoor lighting conditions), the ambient light can overpower the small on-camera flash and render the optical slave function useless. To overcome this, Marcell over at Fiber Strobe (a blog dedicated to cataloging experiments in incorporating fiber optics into photography) came up with a simple work around. By using some foam crafting materials and tape, he whipped up a simple mount for a strand of scrap fiber optic cable to connect between the on-camera flash and the sensor on the slave flash. Once attached it works exactly like as sync cable would, except it’s transmitting a pulse of light instead of a pulse of electricity. Hit up the link below for more pictures and a build guide.   • I can't connect to internet via lan cable because 2032 battery died and my bios bios info is now empty [closed]

    I have a compaq CQ61-112SL from about 5 years now... the main battery is almost dead, doesn't keep more then 10 minutes. anyway my problem is that my motherboard battery didn't have any more energy left a few days ago and since then I can't access internet through lan cable but only via wifi. I need cable though. I saw that on my BIOS setup page there were a bunch of parameters missing like serial number, UUID, product number and stuff like that. Also when I start the notebook it prints something like : No serial found. or something like that. I don't really know if the reason why my lan cable doesn't work is the empty BIOS but i assume that's it. If it's not please enlighten me. Or anyway tell me how to update the serial number and product number to the real ones (instead of the 0000000000000 that is now in my bios). I downloaded HP DMI which should make it possible to set these variables on the BIOS but i'm on Windows 8 64bit and the executable file that I need to open for my laptop model says it can't run on 64 bit.

    I recently bought a UPS, however, the only outlets take this sort of connector: But, the other end of the cables is like this (right): The thing is, I really need to connect it to a power bar, so I need a cable that has one end like in the first photo, and the second end like this (right side): I've searched around for quite a while, and asked at a few shops, but cannot seem to find a cable that will fulfill this purpose. This seems crazy to me, as I would think that a UPS wouldn't only be able to be attached to devices that take the relatively obscure output seen on the right side of the second image I posted. Do I need to buy another UPS that has the proper connectors?? Please help!!

  • The cable of my USB port hub is too short - what to do?

    Hi, I just bought a new USB port hub "MSY USB 2.0 4-port hub". It has two inputs: A small USB entrance input for external power (?) The problem is that the cable that comes with the hub (small USB on one end, large USB on the other - to input into my computer), is too short for my needs. Is there a solution to this? buying a longer cable might be risky, I know that it might cause problems with power. Is there anything else I can do to make it work? Thanks.

As part of the setup I've got to a screen requesting username / password / authentication server for the cable modem They have contacted Telstra who supply the username / password and say that is all they need. They dont know anything about an authentication server. There are a couple of answers up on Whirlpool forum found through google but those answers are 4 years old. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/475258.html http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/479615.html I havent tried them yet as I hoped to get actual answers before trundling over to my friends house again.   • How should my CAT6e cable be terminated? No pairs?

    I have just bought 60 meters of CAT6e cables, sold as "4 pair UTP RJ45". I have looked at various videos on Youtube but I cannot determine the correct wiring. all the colors of the cable I saw there are different from mine. Mine is untwisted, and it is not color coded. I have 8 pin connectors all of a single color. How should I wire this cable? EDIT THE PACKAGE DOES SAY TWISTED but they are not (twisted).

  • Asus V1S/V1V inverter cable

    I have an Asus V1V, which is the same as the Asus V1S except for the video card. I have a problem where the screen will randomly lose brightness or flicker between being lit and not lit. The picture below is of the left hinge, with the cover removed. Pressing one of these cables affects this behaviour, and pressing it in place will resolve the issue for a few hours. To me this means the inverter cable is damaged. As the picture shows, there are two cables, an LCD cable and what I assume is an inverter cable. I purchased an LCD cable for my model of laptop, but have been unable to find an inverter cable. It seems not to exist. I would like some input on if an inverter cable actually exists, if it is likely the problem, or solutions in general to resolve this problem permanently.

    I've been having a recurring kernel panic with my Ubuntu 9.04 installation (see other posts by me). Today, I was fiddling around trying to get some cable attached when the system panicked. Looking at the layout, the only cable in the vicinity was the network cable. Upon further investigation, it seems that the system reliably panics whenever I insert a network cable. Removing the cable does not cause the panic. How do I stop the system panicking when I insert the network cable? If more information is needed, please add comments/answers and I'll post the required data.

    I'm trying to connect with ethernet cable two computers - desktop and laptop. What I want to do is transfer a lot of data from one to another. The problem is that I'm doing everything from: How to network two Ubuntu computers using ethernet (without a router)? But after that, ping always gives me "Destination host unreachable".   • External TV only allows 640x480 using VGA cable

    I have Ubuntu precise installed on a MacBook Pro. When connecting to an external television using a VGA style cable the highest resolution available seems to be 640x480. I'm using the proprietary NVIDEA Accelerated Graphics Driver (version current) and attempting to setup the TV using the nvidea-settings tool. I know all the equipment supports higher resolutions because of the following: Prior to rebuilding my machine with precise, the same TV, cabel & adapter gave higher resolutions The same machine & TV when used with a HDMI cable allows higher resolutions Windows laptops with the same cable & TV are able to achieve higher resolutions I'm not sure what to look for next, there are some similar FAQ questions but I'm not sufficiently familiar with the areas involved to know if these are my issue or are safe to try. Specifically: colord problem & my monitor resolution 640*480 with no other options! - is the closest, but as I'm having no problems with the main laptop monitor I'm not sure the described symptoms apply. I can't work out from the answer or Bumblebee site how to determine if nvidia optimus applies to my laptop. Why isn't my monitor's native resolution appearing as an option? - suggests configuring X by hand, but doesn't entirely match the symptoms I'm seeing

  • Touchpad not working after connecting hdmi cable

    I had installed Ubuntu 14.04 2 weeks back on my new laptop along side Windows 8. 1. And it was working fine. But yesterday after I connected Ubuntu with my TV using the HDMI cable, the cursor/ pointer stopped working. The pointer is not visible and my touchpad is not working. I connected the hdmi cable with youtube in Firefox. But only the wallpaper was visible on the TV. Also the right click menu, alt tab window, etc was also visible. But the side menu and the Firefox window was not visible. The pointer was visible on the tv and the touchpad was working, I was able to move the pointer. After I removed the HDMI cable, my cursor/pointer disappeared and my touchpad is not responding! ! I tried to restart many times, but still no luck. Its still not visible in the desktop. The pointer is visible in the login screen, but is not responding to the touchpad. I tried to login to my KDE session, there too the pointer is visible but is not responding to the touchpad. It is not moving.

I used to have a SurfBoard, and the curl command: curl http://192.168.100.1/reset.htm?reset_modem=Restart%20Cable%20Modem Would reset the modem. Sure, I can go power cycle it manually, but it's in the basement and I'm lazy :-). I did find out the URL to elevate the access permission, but nothing about rebooting/resetting yet.

    Hi I'm a little confused to say the least when it comes to video formats and protocols. I'd like to view my laptop output on my HD TV. The TV has HDMI, S-Video, and RCA inputs. My laptop has a VGA female port on the side for driving a 2nd monitor, and an S-VHS output at the back. No, it has no DVI, which I've heard is a poor decision from DELL, and even poorer decision on my part to buy it. Can I get true HD output from this to my TV? What cable do I need, or would I need a converter? Any other suggestions are also welcome, such as how to get something close to HD on my TV. Thanks! Bernhard

  • Monitor displays "No VGA signal" "Check DVI cable" after installing motherboard drivers

    I bought computer with all of the needed parts, got everything sorted out, installed windows 7 but my CD-ROM doesn't fit my motherboard. So I had to download the driver manually and install it using USB disc. My motherboard: ECS elitegroup H61H2-M2, I downloaded it's drivers, installed the BIOS map or something, and then the computer forced a reboot after it was complete, after the reboot my monitor just stopped working and displayed No VGA signal, No DVI cable I think I've just installed the wrong driver, well but how can I sort it out? This is the driver I installed. On the book, it tells me to install the drivers, without the driver it won't see the Internet connection cable. I'm 100% sure there is nothing wrong with the monitor or it's cables. it stopped working exactly after the reboot after the installation.

    I'm brand new to Ubuntu and I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to connect to the internet. When I try to activate the Broadcom STA wireless driver, it says "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log." So I try the steps detailed here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1967515&highlight=jockey Problem is, I can't connect to the internet via ethernet cable either. I tested the cable with another laptop and it works just fine. I don't know what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Cable connection takes a lot to establish

    I've just installed Xubuntu on my computer. It's all OK, but I have a problem with the internet connection: when I boot the PC and I login into Xubuntu it says to me "Cable connection disconnected" or "No cable connection". After a while (like 40 seconds) it connects to the internet and then I'm able to surf the net. I was wondering: why it takes so long to establish a connection?
