• I cant see my windows drive in ubuntu

  I'm n00ber than any n00b you ever seen, so bear with me... I just downloaded wubi and installed ubuntu 12.10 along with Windows 7 on the same HDD. Linux works fine, but doesnt show files from drive C (on which it is installed). I really need C as it contains all my files. I did df -h in the terminal. It does show the drive. /dev/sda2 577G 220G 358G 38% /host Now I tried to mount the drive sudo mount /dev/sda2 and got the response mount: /dev/sda2 already mounted or /host busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda2 is already mounted on /host I dont know what that means. The drive doesnt show up in HOME FOLDER. What am i supposed to do now?

• Fix: Cant Change or Remove Visual Studio 2008 from DVD

  If you installed Visual Studio 2008 on a 64-bit operating system, you may have trouble when you try ad add or remove functionality by inserting the disk (or remounting the ISO image).  I believe this is because of the path used to install the 32-bit Visual Studio program.  When you run the setup.exe off of the disk, you get this: Clicking on Change or Remove Visual Studio 2008 brings up this dialog: But not long after it appears, it disappears to be replaced with: Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Setup A problem has been encountered while loading the setup components.  Canceling setup. FIX: Use Add or Remove Programs Launch the Add or Remove Programs dialog in Windows, and find Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite ENU (or whichever SKU you installed).  Click Uninstall/Change.  From here you should be able to change your installed components of Visual Studio successfully: Thanks to Brendan for the tip! • I cant acess my HDD

  First of all, I'm a total Linux noob. I was running the latest version of Ubuntu but eventually I wasn't able to boot no more, the Ubuntu logo appeared and then it was only a blinking white bar indefinitely, without charging. Now, my problem is the following. I want to do a fresh install and I am trying to recover my latest files from the HDD using the Ubuntu live CD. I click on the HDD and obtain the following I honestly don't really know whats going on. Looking at disks I have this... Can anyone help me out? Cheers.

  i recently updated Lubuntu to 13.10 and now after some days Thunderbird stopped working. It just won't open. • Cant install ubuntu 12.10?

  I believe i have tried every trick in the book but Ubuntu just wont install. Windows has no issue with it. I burned a DVD of Ubuntu 12.10 and it has passed all checks, but i keep getting different errors while installing. Mainly while "Creating the Partition in dev" and some times during "Copying files". The errors are: Errno 30, Errno 33, Installer crashed, failed to create partition etc... I have Intel core 2 duo 2.66Ghz, 4gb ram and ASrock motherboard. I really want to install Ubuntu 12.10 and 12.10 only! Also Should i prefer 32bit or 64bit? I have burned a 32bit version. Thank you

• MacBook 5,1 - cant change brightness on 12.04

  I'm a total newbie to Ubuntu and recently decided to give it a go on my early 2009 Alu MacBook. For about a week now I've been trying to get the brightness controls to work. I've tried the following: Brightness controls doesn't work on a MacBook Pro 5.5 (ubuntu 12.04 LTS) https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-5/Precise#LCD None of it seems to work. Next option was to try the Nvidia-bl-dkms drivers, but aftert installing the Mactel PPA I just get this: Reading package lists... DoneBuilding dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package nvidia-bl-dkms Any help would be much appreciated as my eyes are going to fall out soon with the brightness maxed out.

  Trying to install ubuntu for the first time. I use an usb stick. At partition I use one of the hdd's I have and create a partition of 50gb for ubuntu @ /dev/sda and the partitions name is dev/sda1 with type ext4. All is well and the installation is completed without any errors and I get a dialogue asking me to restart but ubuntu does not boot. I only have one device as boot in my bios and I think its the devide with ubuntu on it since I've not partitioned the other discs. When I create the partition I yse primary type and localtion for the new partition is att the beginning of the space. And I use Ext4 file system. Mount point is / What am I doing wrong?

• Making HTML5 videos stored on AWS S3 **difficult** to download (because I cant make it impossible)

  I am building a website that hosts video's stored on AWS's S3 service. The videos are played thru a HTML5 player we have built. Ive just been asked to make sure "nobody can steal our video's". Now I know that if you really don't want something stolen, don't put it up on the internet. However I just need to secure these videos as good as possible, the videos need to at the very least resist someone going thru the source code and trying to download them manually. One option available to me is to completely rebuild the video player in flash. This is not ideal, for several reasons, notably because I would also then have to build an App for mobile devices to be able to view this site. So I am looking for other options. I have heard about using a token to make the file available only during certain times. I have heard of using a separate file to serve the videos that sits between the HTML5 page and the video file. I am also having a look at IAM, the Secure AWS Access Control, in the hopes AWS can solve this problem for me. Can anyone here recommend any of these options? Or perhaps suggest other options available to me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Cant burn the iso file on disc and usb will not startup

  I am having very big problems trying to get this going for my old laptop. I tried burning the iso image with 5 different iso burning programs and none of the disks worked none started up. Then I tried to do the USB way used the program that puts it on the usb for you it starts up on my laptop fine but will not start up on my compaq presario 2178cl. If any1 can help me with this problem I would be much appreciative ty for your time.

  I had ubuntu installed for a few weeks now untill it had a kernel update and i canceled the wifi driver because it didnt worked, since then i wasent able to boot into ubuntu. I tryed to boot from livecd but it didnt worked either. I was able to succssecfuly install windows 7 64 bit now and also format my hard drive but i dont like windows and when i tryed to install ubunru again to still didnt worked. Please help me!   I created a LiveUSB of Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS using Pendrive Linux. -Created a separate 30GB partition using Windows 8 Disk Management -Disabled Secure Boot (Didn't find an option to disable EFI boot) -Disabled Fast Startup The laptop starts the GRUB menu shows up but it doesn't go beyond that no matter what option i choose. After choosing any option the screen goes blank but the power is still on i can see the power light.   Hi, I cant browse php pages in my local server.Before it was working fine. But now i cant browse php pages, i can browse html pages and asp pages , no problems with that. But when i try to browse a php page its not loading. What will be the problem?? I am using windows 2000 advanced server and my web server is Tomcat please someone help me Guys i'm not getting anything in my browser, its just continue to loading Nothing showing in that page i'm not getting any 404 error or anything like that. its just continue to be loading for example consider my file is located under insider a folder named as myproject i can reach upto this http://localhost/projects/myproject but after that i cant browse php pages inside that... http://localhost/projects/myproject/index.php this will continue to be loading, and nothing shows in that page

  I have BackTrack 5 R3 installed on VMware and its on bridged connection so it gets its own ip on my network and it works I get internet connection but there is no ethernet cable connected yet somehow when I do iwconfig I cant see wlan0 and no other wireless card but etho is connected to the network somehow.... cant it be that eth0 is my wireless card which somehow misconfigured? The UI designers have posted a survey where you can tell them how distracting and annoying you find the gray themes and black icons. You even get to comment on the (fixable) all-caps issue. The UI people didn’t listen much to the (largely hostile) developer feedback during the product design – or more likely were constrained by some edict from on high - but seem more willing now to create decent themes for updates. • Tell the kernel to strongly cache a particular directory

  This question is a rephrasing of Optimizing EXT4 performance. I have a directory that contains build files, most very small, but totaling 5.6G. I usually access the same subset of files (some thousands, for some tens of megabytes) over and over again. The subset changes daily (different projects, different versions of libraries). What takes longer when I use it seem to be disk seeks. For example if I do a du twice the second time it takes as much time as the first, and disk activity is similar. Ideally I'd like to tell the kernel to allocate X Mb to the metadata and Y to data in the folder, like the options for nfs cache. Is it possible in some way, other than mounting nfs from localhost and caching it to a ramdisk?

• My server cant resolve domains?

  I am on a VPS that is pretty much unmanaged so it means im on my own. I did my best to configure it so i can host my own site for other people to see it online but seems like i have network problems because in the last days many of my users report they cant enter my site from my domain and seems like Google and Facebook cant either (this never happened before). Its weird because i can enter my site without problems and so many other people as well. But then i tried to make a php include and i get this error: Warning: include(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in I was told that seems like my server cant resolve domains. The includes work if i use IPs instead of domains. So it means i have a DNS problem or something? What can i do to fix it? Im on a Linux 2.6.32-431.11.2.el6.x86_64 on x86_64 CentOS Linux 6.5 Thank you. • Some people suddenly say they cant access my site, but me and all others can

  I have had this problem many times before and im still unable to find out what is causing it. It happned to me some months ago but it got fixed by itself and had already gone back to normal. Everything was working fine for quite a while until 2 days ago. Some people are reporting they cant access my site, they get a 404 error, however i can access it normally and many other users cant. I dont know whats the common denominator since both groups of people are from the same countries, use the same browsers, OS, etc. so the issue doesnt seem related to that. I have reported this problem before to my both my host and domain registrar but none of them claim responsibility for that. Who is then to blame? Waht can i do to find out whats causing the issue and solve it? Thank you.

• IBM storage ds3400 Cant connect to management using fiber

  i have a problem with a DS3400 IBM storage system we bought a few years back. when i try to manage the storage using its IBM storage management i cant find it using automatic detection even though its connected directly using the fiber and i can see the Logical drives connected and working properly. when i tried to connect the two management Ethernet wires and manage the storage directly by entering the IP address manually i am able to connect however after i make several changes to the controller configuration one of the controllers stops responding and i am not able to ping it directly (since you cant make any changes without being connected to both controllers this is a problem) whats more bizarre is that when i change the IP of the controller that doesn't respond it starts working .. i have found some articles over the web explaining stuff about LUN31 being missing and causing similar problems however all my attempts to manually configure it failed . *link to an example http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5075711 in short im trying to get my storage to appear in the storage manager when directly connected using only the fiber cable directly attached. thanks in advance

• cant access site intermittent as i get site not available

  i have a news site i check stuff for regularly.. once in a while i cant access it completely from my 5 different browsers and even from the command line, nslookup cant resolve, ping and tracert fails.. all not being able to resolve site name..the problem is specific to this.. i am told by the site support person that problem is that its cache on my machine or on ISP and I say thats not true because this site I access it 1-2-3 times a week from one browser only.. i only fire up the other ones in times of trouble..and when i have the problem even if i try on my secondary machines i still get the same problems.. when problem goes away all works well.... question is whats causing the intermittent dns/http problems... i don't believe this is something to do with my machine because probe disappears without me having done anything at all.

• Cant install windows 7(boot problem)

  First of all, I cant boot my windows 7. I get a black screen with a cursor up in the left corner. So, I tried using windows 7 installation which I've put on my flash drive. To boot from the drive, I've changed the boot order to boot from the drive first. It boots but does not find any HDD to install the windows on(which is pretty logic, I dont boot the HDD soon enough for the installer). but if i put the HDD in front of the flash drive in the boot order, it will just try to load windows 7 and i will get the black screen again. I've tried putting the HDD first and clicking f8 a lot. All I've got is an error. Something about some software change. I dunno. Help me please, cant do anything with my laptop till then.
