  • Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS is not recognized anymore on Mac OS X

    I have used Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS for years now, alongside with Elgato EyeTV software. I am a happy and completely satisfied user! Since a couple of weeks the USB sitck stopped working on my MacPro1,1 (OS version 10.6.3): EyeTV does not see any device attached, and actually, the green led on the stick stays off. It is not a USB port fault: I have unplugged any other USB/Firewire device and tried with different USB ports, to no avail (any other USB devices work as expected on any port) I have completely uninstalled EyeTV software, including preferences and system daemons/extensions, rebooted and reinstalled the latest EyeTV. No way. Reset the PRAM. Nope. Checked the Apple System Profiler - USB: No device attached, The MacPro does not see it at all. I need to say that: a) The device worked as a charm even with the latest OS 10.6.x (so it's not a OS upgrade cause). b) I have plugged the Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS to my MacBook5,1 where EyeTV is not installed and was never installed: The green led on the stick turns on, the growl bubble pops up, and the device is perfectly recognized by the system. Apple System Profiler says (sorry, Italian language): Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS (2882): ID prodotto: 0x005e ID fornitore: 0x0ccd Versione: 1.10 Numero di serie: 061102005755 Velocità: Fino a 12 Mb/sec Produttore: TerraTec Electronic GmbH ID posizione: 0x04100000 Corrente disponibile (mA): 500 Corrente necessaria (mA): 500 At this point I am pretty sure the Terratec stick is not damaged and there is something wrong with my MacPro. I kindly ask you: Is there a way to force my MacPro recognize the USB device? What can I check? Is there something that caches USB connection that can be reset?   • Compatibility of Fedora install on a Hybrid drive

    I recently bought un ultrabook with a 500gb/32gb sdd hdd hybrid drive, and I'm having trouble replacing windows on it with fedora seventeen. it errors out saying there was an unhandled exception. Is linux compatible with hybrid drives? or can the operating system on a hybrid drive not be replaced? Edit: here are the steps I select special storage devices because it ignores my hard drives otherwise at this point i get the message: "Disk contains bios raid meta data, disk sda will be ignored" I can pick a hostname, select my timezone and set a password at the install type screen, no matter what I select (use all free space, replace linux systems, create custom partition etc..) once I click next, it says "an unhandled exception" has occured. and I can no longer proceed with installation.   • Building a PC, advice on SSD/Hybrid Hard Drives

    I am looking at building a new PC, it's mainly for office (graphics heavy) use and programming. Looking for good performance with opening and closing programs and files as well as a fast boot. I plan to have 3 primary hard drives Windows 7 Programs (photoshop etc) Current Files (There'll also be a large storage capacity back up drive, but this will be the Seagate drive I already have.) So, my question is, looking at standard "old fashioned" hard drives and SSD drives, obviously there's a massive price difference. Clearly the SSD will have better performance, but: If, for example, I had an SSD for Windows (say about 100gB), that would clearly give me the boot speed I want, then I guess my real questions are: If I were to buy one more SSD, would it give the greatest improvement on standard performance if used to store programs, or currently used files? Given that the OS is on an SSD, should I not bother with the 3 drives and instead, partition that Hybrid drive to store programs and currently used files on it? Obviously, option two is cheaper and option one could cause me storage issues, but that's when I can dump files I am not currently using onto another drive. Any, I am open to suggestions... so what do you suggest?!

    I have a HP Envy 4 1025tx with Hybrid graphics. Although this is a 64bit system, I've installed 32bit Ubuntu on it for some reasons.(Hybrid graphics don't do well with 64bit Ubuntu.-"Some one on some forum") I had heating problems with the GPU but I've fixed them all with vgaswitcheroo. But now I wanted to use my Blender on my Ubuntu. To my surprise Blender didn't detect the dedicated 7670m card in my machine. I've confirmed with cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch Both IGD and DIS were up and running. I dont seem to have libopencl on my /usr/lib even though my synaptic manager says that I have installed it. I'm not quite sure what I've installed. It says that I've installed "ocl-icd-libopencl1". So my question is... Do I have opencl on my system? If not do I have to get propreitary ATI drivers for sake of opencl(fglrx wrecks up my unity totally on my system I need directions to fix it if this is the choice)? Should I get a 64bit Ubuntu installed on this system?

  • Intel hybrid graphics stuck in power save mode

    I have an Asus UL30V with Intel hybrid graphics. When I bought it it used to switch to turn of the better graphics card to save power and run on a more power effecient one. When I connected the laptop to a power source again I could go to the intel graphics icon on the task bar and click on "switch to enhanced performance mode" or something similar. But like 2-3 months ago it suddenly vanished. I cannot switch modes anymore, it's gotten stuck in power save mode. I can change the windows power setting but that doesn't enable the better graphics card :( What should I do? I've tried restarting the computer and that does not work. I really hope I don't have to reinstall the drivers! I have windows 7 Home Premium x64 Any ideas?

  • Hybrid HDD/SSD Volume Windows

    Is it possible to create a hybrid drive-like experience using an ssd and a hdd? In theory, frequently used files would be stored on the faster ssd, and larger/less used would be moved to the hdd. I know you can create shared volumes in windows, but the speed differences would create some issues I would assume, and it doesn't have drive preference for what gets stored on what drive. Any programs/info/advice would be great! Thanks! (PS. I saw this question, but it was asked three years ago and some solutions have probably changed)

  • Ubuntu 12.10 - Graphics driver shows Gallium 0.4 instead of intel HD

    I have a hybrid Intel/Nvidia system using bumblebee on Ubuntu 12.10 with specs: Clevo W150HR, SB i7-2720qm, 8GB RAM, 128GB Crucial M4 SSD + 500GB HDD It is reported to use software rendering (through Gallium driver) rather than accelerated through the intel HD driver. Reinstalling the intel driver has no effect: sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-intel The result is a rather sluggish desktop. Is there any way to blacklist the gallium driver? Or force the intel driver instead? Edit 1 - Ubuntu 12.04 shows the driver as Intel SandyBridge out of the box, but 12.10 does not even after running the above command. Edit 2 - Xorg.0.log shows: (--) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile (GT1) (WW) intel(0): Disabling hardware acceleration on this pre-production hardware. Edit 3 - It turns out that SandyBridge rev.7 systems are known to be unstable per this link. Accordingly in the xserver-xorg-video-intel if it detects this rev. it disables it with the warning in above log.

  • HP Pavilion g6 1190sm laptop has overheat/hibernation/graphics issues

    Every time I reboot or shutdown my laptop, while the laptop is booting again I get a screen (before loading the OS) that HP discovered overheating and system went into hibernation. But the point is that the laptop is not overheating nor going into hibernation by itself. Also, because of the hybrid graphics card I cannot install additional drivers. Desktop resolution and all works perfectly but I cannot use Unity 3D. Also, OpenGL doesn't work as it should (with Cairo Dock). As I've read some posts, people say that vgaswitcheroo doesn't work on 12.04 so I haven't tried it.

  • How to disable discrete GPU using NVIDIA drivers?

    I have a DELL studio XPS 13 (aka 1340) as of 12.04 most things run smoothly out of the box, but I have some power draining and warmness issues (if not to be called terrible heat issues) The system came with a NVIDIA GeForce 9500M (which has Hybrid SLI) and it shows up in "lspci" as these 2 cards 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98 [GeForce 9200M GS] (rev a1) 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C79 [GeForce 9400M G] (rev b1) I had to install nvidia-current over noveau driver 'cause noveau does freeze the system after suspension. By installing nvidia-current and running nvidia-xconfig the resume process after suspension is fixed. By the way both with nvidia-current and noveau the system drains a lot of battery and heats up a lot. I suppose this is because the discrete GPU is always on. I don't really need 3D graphics on this system, if not the minimal to run unity and compiz for window management. So my question is: How do I disable, using nvidia-current, the discrete GPU 9200M and use only the integrated one 9400M? notes: In BIOS I have no option to disable discrete GPU This I think is not applicable because of the suspension-freeze issue (with noveau): https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics I've found this but I don't know which --sli option I should choose to fit my needs: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/hardy/man1/nvidia-xconfig.1.html My system has not optimus or cuda, but anyone can tell me if bumblebee can work for me?

  • DataReader-DataSet Hybrid solution

    My solution architects and I have exhausted both pure Dataset and Datareader solutions. Basically we have a Microsoft.NET 2.0 windows service application that pulls data based on a query and processes additional tasks per record; almost a poor mans workflow system. The recordsets are broader (in terms of the columns) and deeper (in terms of number of records). We observed that DataSet performs much better in terms of performance but runs into contraints as # of records increase say 100K+ we start seeing System.OutOfMemoryException on a 4G machine with processModel configured to run at memoryLimit set to 85. Since this is a multi-threaded app, there could be multiple threads processing different queries and building different DataSets, so we run into the exception sooner in that case DataReader on the other hand works but is a lot slower and hits other contraints; if there is some sort of disconnect it has to start over again or leaves open connections on the DB side and worst case takes down the service completely etc. So, we decided the best option would be some sort of hybrid solution. I'm open to guidance and suggestions. Are there any hybrid solutions available? Any other suggestions

    I have 3 x Corsair 2GB DDR3 1600MHz, and I want to expand it with 3 more DIMMs. Obviously to keep my triple-channel, I'd be best to buy an identical 3 DIMMs kit as I have now, because triple-channel doesn't work with not-identical memory DIMMs, but to what level of difference? Can I have identical spec DIMMs (Corsair DDR3 1600MHz) but just 4GB beside my 2GB ones, and the triple-channel will still be active?

    Here's the setup: We have a domain, mydomain.com. Everything is on our own server, except general email accounts which are through gmail. Currently gmail is set as the MX record. The server also has various email aliases it needs to support for bug trackers and such. e.g. [email protected] |/path/to/issuetracker.script I'm struggling with a setup that allows the following, both locally and from user's email clients. guser1 - has a gmail account and a local account guser2 - only has a gmail account bugs - has a pipe alias in /etc/aliases for issue tracker Scenarios mail to [email protected] from local host (crons and such) needs to go to gmail account mail to [email protected] from local host mail to [email protected] needs to be piped to the local issue tracker script So, the first stab was creating a transport map. In this scenario, the our server would be set as teh MX and guser* destined emails are sent to gmail. Put the gmail users in a map like so: [email protected] smtp:gmailsmtp:25 [email protected] smtp:gmailsmtp:25 Problems: Ignores extensions such as [email protected] Only works if append_at_myorigin = no (if set to yes, gmail refuses to connect with: E4C7E3E09BA3: to=, relay=none, delay=0.05, delays=0.02/0.01/0.02/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[209.85.222.57]:25: Connection refused)) since append_at_myorigin is set to no, all received emails have (unknown sender) The second stab was to set explicit localhost aliases in /etc/aliases and do a domain wide forward on mydomain. This too requires setting the local server as the MX: root: root@localhost # transport mydomain.com smtp:gmailsmtp:25 Problems: * If I create a transport map for a domain that matches "$myhostname", the aliases file is never parsed. So when a local user (or daemon) sends an email like: mail -s "testing" root < text.txt Postfix ignores the /etc/alias entry and maps to [email protected] and attempts to send it to the gmail transport mapping. Third stab: Create a subdomain for the bugs, something like bugs.mydomain.com. Set the MX for this domain to local server and leave the MX for mydomain.com to the Gmail server. Problems: * Does not solve the issue with local accounts.     I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on MacBook Pro 15" 2010 (MacBookPro6,2) and I would like to use the integrated Intel graphics instead of the dedicated Nvidia graphics Ubuntu boots with on this machine. I am booting with UEFI, not REFIT or similar. I managed to switch to UEFI with the help of this page. This wiki page also contains tips on switching to Intel graphics which include some (for me) cryptic boot commands to grub. However if I follow the guide, my display stays just black. Currently, I am only looking for solution to use Intel graphics for Ubuntu to save power and keep my MacBook cool. Dynamic switching or stuff like that is not required.

    There are lots of 'how to get switchable graphics to work' guides but I found none on how to configure a system for switchable graphics operation on Ubuntu from the ground up, nor explaining the current driver situation for particular computer models (integrated+discrete combinations). System information: Ubuntu 12.04 amd64, installed clean with system configured to use only the integrated Intel card Lenovo Thinkpad T500 Intel GMA 4500MHD / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 Current situation: Mature and up-to-date system with no configuration changes to what's given above. I've made a backup image of the system (Clonezilla) so regardless of what's written below let's assume it's our starting point. If something in What I have already tried is not clear you may as well diregard it. What I have already tried: Configuring BIOS to switchable graphics and: Installing Additional Hardware drivers - returned an error. Installing proprietary amd-driver-installer-12.6-legacy-x86.x86_64.run automatically - system starts to 'low-graphics mode'. Tried fixing as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#Manually_installing_Catalyst_12.6.2C_special_case_for_Intel.2BAC8-ATI_hybrid_graphics Got lost, gave up. Please note that while configuring BIOS for integrated graphics only is pretty straightforward, configuring for switchable graphics is not.

  • Is it normal to not have desktop effects after installing on an Asus N53S?

    I've just installed 11.10 and so far so great, except I just discovered (after looking at another installation) I'm missing some effects. First of all, I am using unity 3d (I chose ubuntu at the login menu), and have already the correct nvidia drivers. Yet, my launcher is the same from unity 2d, the same as the app switcher, and when dragging windows to screen corners, they don't get grabbed. This "error" was present since the begining, so I was not able to detect it. Please help, I want to have an ubuntu experience as nice as everyone else. EDIT 1: I'm using an Asus N53S. My graphic card is Nvidia geforce GT540M. It says cuda, if that matters.

    I just ordered the Nvidia GTX 560 card, which should arrive tomorrow. I have a dilemma, though. Should I keep using the driver which is available in "additional drivers" in Ubuntu (10.10), or should I install the driver from the nvidia site?   • Macbook Pro 8,2 Graphics switching - Ubuntu 12.04

    I've been reading docs and various pages for a few hours now and can't seem to put all of the pieces together on this. Basically I am trying to get 12.04 installed on my MBP 8,2 with graphics card switching working in some way or another. My basic understanding is that I need to do an EFI boot install of ubuntu so that graphics card switching will work (due to the hardware design). From there I may be able to use one of the kernel modules for graphics switching: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics That article isn't clear on whether I need to do an EFI install. I have also seen comments in posts here that say and EFI install works by default as long as you have refit installed. Overall, I'm quite lost as to the simplest way to proceed to get an install up and running with graphics switching. I don't mind using open source GFX drivers as long as the basics work. Any help towards a solution is greatly appreciated.
