• Video and LAN Cards are not recognized on Intel DG41RQ MB

  Hello, My 32 bit Debian Etch with Etch-n-Half kernel 2.6.24 and Etch-n-half video driver xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.2.1-1~etchnhalf2 does not recognize my on-board LAN and Video. I can work only with VESA display. • How to manage two video cards on a laptop (ATI and Intel)?

  I have a laptop with two video cards. One ATI and on integrated Intel. On Windows, I can choose which video card I want to use. For example, I use the Intel card for normal use and for gaming, I switch to my ATI card for better performance, but a shorter battery life. In Ubuntu 10.10, only the Intel driver is installed, the ATI driver for my card doesn't work at all and there's heat coming out of my computer all the time, like when I'm playing video games on Windows. I think both cards are active, but only the Intel one is usefull. How can I solve this by making sure Ubuntu is aware of the two video cards and by disabling my ATI. Or may be I am all wrong about this?

• Why doesn't Unity 3D work on my HD3000 integrated graphics?

  So I got my new laptop recently. HP Envy 15 with switchable graphics card. I'm using both windows and ubuntu, but for ubuntu I need just Intel HD3000 for better battery live. I've installed fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates. The drivers seems to work for my ATI card. The problem is, Intel HD3000 does not support Unity 3D. Why? • Can't get Optimus to work with Ironhide on an Asus N53SN

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 (Same issue in 11.04 btw) and then I installed Ironhide. I went through the configuration, chose the one with the highest confirmation for my system and tested it: > Error: Module nvidia does not exist in /proc/modules > P50 Disabling nVidia Card Succeded (the spelling error is theirs) And it changes nothing. I tried other configurations and got worse results. This has really become a major headache. Any solutions?

• Screen flickers after resuming from hibernate with Intel GMA 3600 (Acer D270 with Intel N2600)

  Fresh system install, with correct display driver from Intel (8.14.8.1065). Clicking "Update driver" merely results in a message saying the driver was already up-to-date. After resuming from hibernate the entire screen flickers. This is especially noticeable while using IE9 (which has hardware acceleration enabled by default) on Google maps, in particular while typing in an address in the map search field (the flickering is much worse under these circumstances). Note that sleep worked fine, only hibernate causes this issue. Restarting "fixes" the problem temporarily until the next hibernate-resume. Aero is enabled. This is on Windows 7 (Pro) 32-bit, on an Acer Aspire One D270-1998, with the Intel N2600 (which has the Intel GMA 3600 built-in).

  I have an NVIDIA Geforce GTX560 with two video projectors and I would like to use the onboard Intel Graphic Chipset to plug an additional monitor. I saw the question : How can I use both Intel onboard and Nvidia graphics at the same time? but the answer is so short that I was not convinced. My motherboard (GIGABYTE GA-H61M-D2P-B3 (rev. 1.0)) equipped with Intel H61 Chipset allow shared memory between onboard and PCIe cards. And Windows 7 allow me to use the three outputs thanks to Intel's driver. I'm able to use the onboard graphic card but without graphical interface for now. I think i need intel driver for that. But I would like to know if I can setup my displays in xorg.conf with something like : Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "intel" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device1" Driver "nvidia" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device2" Driver "nvidia" EndSection Does anyone have successfully setup something like that ? Or should I burn my head experimenting it by myself ? Or is there any good reasons to discouraged me to try ? Thanks for your help. • Giant battery consumption with dual graphics solution (only i-gpu working)

  I use a Laptop with Intel Core i7 SandyBridge and integrated Intel HD3000 graphics as well as a Nvidia Geforce GTS 555M. So far, I got the impression my Laptop was running with the Nvidia graphics adapter only because the fan was always running on highest speed (and loudest noise) and it was getting very hot even when doing nothing. Also the battery is empty after ~40-50 minutes (while having ~4-5 hours with Intel graphics in Win7). Since this can't be healthy I wanted to switch to the integrated graphics instead. I was fairly surprised when the System Information showed me that the as graphics adapter I use "Intel M". Why is my battery empty so fast with Ubuntu? Without using the NVIDIA graphics adapter? Summary: I DONT WANT to use the Nvidia graphics adapter (OPTIMUS), I just want the Intel solution. As I have understood, the Intel solution is running already, emptying my battery 10x as fast as Win7. What is wrong? Any ideas?

  Possible Duplicate: Where can I find free sprites and images? I'm teaching kids to program using Ruby and the gaming framework Gosu/Chingu. Kids love it, including the part where they have to look for the icons/graphics for their game objects. I direct them to iconarchive.com, but the selection is sometimes very limited, the graphics aren't always with transparent backgrounds and sometimes the art requires payment. I don't mind paying for an educational license of some sort, but I want the kids to easily select graphics they can use in their games. Is there another resource better suited for this purpose? I don't have a good solution for this, but would also love a site they can get cool background images for their games.

  I've been using Linux for quite a while in everyday computing and programming. But now i got this new laptop with amazing battery life on windows which runs pretty cool even while gaming. But for some reason on Ubuntu I get like 1/3 battery life and it gets hot even while browsing the web. I have the proprietary drivers for radeon, but I'm thinking about upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04, and I would like to know how can I use only the Intel graphics and have radeon always turned off? Since I do not need the discrete graphics on Ubuntu and I'm pretty sure my problem is related to the radeon sucking up my battery and generating heat.   I have a MacBook Pro and whenever I enter certain apps (video camera app or Photoshop for example, the graphics card switched. I didn't know this was going on at first; just that the screen kept changing colors as I opened or closed different software. Later someone told me that the software was causing the OSX to switch graphics cards. It's annoying. How do I keep one graphics card (the better one) enabled all the time? I don't care about power consumption because it is plugged in all the time (though I'm curious how much difference it makes). I just want one graphics card enabled.

• Intel hybrid graphics stuck in power save mode

  I have an Asus UL30V with Intel hybrid graphics. When I bought it it used to switch to turn of the better graphics card to save power and run on a more power effecient one. When I connected the laptop to a power source again I could go to the intel graphics icon on the task bar and click on "switch to enhanced performance mode" or something similar. But like 2-3 months ago it suddenly vanished. I cannot switch modes anymore, it's gotten stuck in power save mode. I can change the windows power setting but that doesn't enable the better graphics card :( What should I do? I've tried restarting the computer and that does not work. I really hope I don't have to reinstall the drivers!   I have decided to get a new Dell Studio 15 laptop. They have an option of adding a "ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570, 512MB" card for an extra $100 instead of the included "Intel HD Graphics" card. How do the two compare? The laptop comes with an Intel Core i3 processor, maybe the Intel graphics card would be more compatible with the processor since they're made by the same manufacturer? • Is the Core i5 Processor from Intel like the Celerons of yesteryear?

  The title pretty much says it. I know that the Core i7's are Quad Core and Hyper-threaded (so 4 cores, and 8 logical), and the Core i5's are Quad Core as well but not Hyper-threaded, does this really make a difference? Or are the only people who are going to care are the ones who CPU intensive operations? I'm a developer, so I'm more concerned about hard drive speed most times than CPU speed. Any thoughts?

  I updated from 11.10 to 12.04 using the distribution upgrade, after that I couldn't log into using the Unity 3D desktop after logging in I would either never get unity's launcher or I would get the launcher and once I tried to do anything the windows lost their decoration and nothing would respond. If I use Unity 2D it works fine and in fact I'm using it to type this. • Graphics card not working but integrated graphics is working

  I have a PCIe Geforce 6600 that I've been using in my PC for a couple years now without problems. Recently though I've not been using the PC and had it unplugged. When I when to use it again I accidentally plugged in the monitor to the VGA port for the integrated graphics instead of the 6600 card VGA port and began using it again (I'm currently running Windows 7). I then realized that I had the monitor plugged in wrong and switched the monitor to the 6600 port. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work. When the monitor is plugged in to the 6600 port the monitor will not display anything; not when booting up or in Windows (so I don’t believe the problem is Windows related). I've even tried booting a live CD for Ubuntu to see if that will recognize the card but no luck. Somehow it seems I need to "turn off" the integrated graphics and instruct the PC to use the 6600 card but I'm at a loss for how to do that. I looked high and low in the BIOS for a setting to do this but cannot find anything at all. I have a MSI motherboard and AMI Bios. Any ideas?

Even when mysql eats 2 or 3 CPUs at 100% each, the output of cpuinfo is the same. If fact mysql performance for some heavy inserts is poorer than my old E5430 server. Any clues? I contacted the server provider, they tried turning off SpeedStep and still we see the same results. Any insights would be helpful cause I am paying heavily for this box and would love to milk all juice i can.

  I have a bit slow PC here, so I decided to put Ubuntu 11.04 on it. It use to run Windows Vista on a resolution of 1280x1024, so both my hardware and monitor support it. Now I'm on Ubuntu, but can only run 1024x768, and the screen is not that bright. Its like when you don't have the right drivers on a Windows machine. • Intel motherboard drops HDMI output after Windows boots

  I have an Intel motherboard (DH67CL) that uses Intel HD 3000 video. It has two video output ports: HDMI and DVI. Both my monitors are DVI, so I have two cables: a DVI-DVI and an HDMI-DVI. If I plug a monitor into just one of these ports, things work fine. But if I plug monitors into each of the ports, the system startup screens show on both monitors, along with the "Starting Windows..." screen, but as soon as the system boots into Windows, the HDMI-connected monitor goes to sleep. When I use the Intel video control panel, the HDMI-connected monitor is not detected. How do I get a dual-monitor setup to work?
