  I upgraded my phone to iOS 4 GM on my mac using itunes 9.2 beta for mac. I have a backup of my contacts on my windows machine with itunes 9.1.1 which won't talk to iOS 4. There is no itunes 9.2 for windows yet. Is there any way I can transfer the backup from my windows pc to my mac so i can restore my settings and contacts?

  Hi, I have an ipod with 100G of music. Then I open itunes on my Mac, and I can use coverflow for some music files that are on the mac, where the itunes library resides. But I can not see coverflow from itunes, when i click on my ipod, and I have covers for almost all of the albums. Is it normal or just another of the typical inconsistencies of apple that apple fans do not dare to recognize? My question, btw, is, how can i use coverflow on iTunes on the Mac but browsing songs that are on myr (connected) iPod, and using coverflow Thanks

  How do I make itunes save tagging information to the file itself? I tagged a file and then loaded it into a different itunes library on a different computer via a NFS share. The tagging info wasn't present which leads me to believe the tagging info is only stored in the itunes DB. Update I'm specifically concerned about movies files, so if you RClick - Get info Options - Media Kind (Movies/TV/etc) Video - Show/Episode/Season These tags don't seem to be saved to the file itself, this is lame.

  Some times when I delete songs from iTunes it does not ask me if I also want to delete it from the hard drive. As a result I have a bunch of songs that are taking up space in my hard drive that are not in iTunes. I have over 3000 files, is there an automated way to find files on the hard drive that are NOT in iTunes? I want to delete them so that they are not taking up space.

If I stop it, select "Computer" in the little output control on the iTunes video control panel that pops up, then play again, it works fine. What the heck? Tried rebooting, updating, with and without external monitor. OSX 10.6.6

  I have my iTunes library file on a separate hard drive (which I believe may be the cause of the problem) and I have been trying to use it to synchronize with my Windows Phone. I would like to first note that if I set up my phone to synchronize with 'Windows Libraries', then it works fine. This is however not ideal as I have categorised my music and made playlists etc, on iTunes. • iTunes and Hulu Playback Choppy and Slow?

  Specs: Windows XP, latest updates 1.7 ghz Pentium 4 1 gig ram DirectX 9.0c NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 256 meg RAM OpenGL 2.1 The story: Okay, I had an older system laying around that I figured I would try turning into a mini-media system to connect to our TV. I put together a lot of older parts, got it into working order, etc. and hooked it up and voila'...slower, but usable system that displayed to the TV. It could run some things decently. I put in iTunes, it played video okay. Not great, but okay. Played Hulu and since we have a 1Mb download rate, the minimum for their site, there were some choppy moments when watching their shows, but I found that (sadly) changing resolution to 800x600 seemed to help with the issue when running full screen. I downloaded the application called Boxee and installed it. It wouldn't run; apparently the video card in the system supported OpenGL 1.2, and needed at least 1.4. I bought a cheap card, the 5200, with four times the memory in it and support for OpenGL 2.1. Installed, everything seemed fine. iTunes seemed to run fine, the video driver (PNY video card) came with OpenGL 2.1, and Boxee finally ran. I then upgraded to the latest drivers for the video card and ran the DirectX updater from MS. After that, the OpenGL Extension Viewer wouldn't run. It just stayed as an icon in the task bar. Also, any and all videos in iTunes stuttered and went out of sync horribly. Unwatchable. I tried watching Hulu video in Boxee, and it displayed video like it was a series of stills in a very bad powerpoint. Playing straightforward audio-only came through fine, no stutters no hiccups. I tried system restore to roll back updates to pre-directX updates (I thought that seemed to be the time that triggered the weird behavior), no joy. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers. I installed updated audio drivers (ensoniq audiopci), nothing helped. I finally wiped the drive last night and tried reinstalling everything and restoring my iTunes content via an import from a backup. Fresh install, no updater on the video card or directx. the problem was still there although I haven't tested Hulu, the iTunes player is still stuttering like crazy if I play video, fine if I play audio. I know the processor isn't high in heft, but with one gig of RAM and the fact that it seemed to do okay before I thought that the problem must be software related. Has anyone else run into this sort of issue and have a solution other than "buy a new computer"? What specs seem to work with video at the low end for you? Right now the system is of little use other than keeping my music library and iTunes apps synced with my iPod.

  Since upgrading to itunes 9 certain songs are ok but other songs skip during play. I tried downgrading to itunes 8 but to no avail. I've tried other music players and some have the same problem and some don't so I think the problem is not with itunes but with the music api. Any ideas? Thanks.

  I was hoping to get some further information on any possible Do's and Don't when it comes to installing, using and maintaining iTunes within a Termina Server environment. We have come across a situation in our company whereby some of our users who are using thin clients now need the ability to sync, update and manage their devices, previously they used either standard desktop systems or laptops so there was no issue with running iTunes. I have not found much information on the web about using iTunes within a Terminal Server Farm, Id like to find out if iTunes works within the environment, any known or common issues that occur due to running it like this.

  Every time I open iTunes I get the the following warning: Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connections? Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences. I always click "Allow" but it still pops up. I set the OS X firewall to allow incoming connections for iTunes. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

• Pausing a song in iTunes using the space bar no longer works after upgrade to Lion

  I used to be able to switch to iTunes using cmd-tab and press the space bar to pause a song as it was playing. This allowed me to to stop the song quickly when I was interrupted by a phone call. However, this no longer works. I can only go to the Controls menu item in iTunes and select Controls -- Pause. I do see that the menu item "Pause" is mapped to "space". When I press the space bar now with iTunes as the "active" application I just hear a tone. Recently I upgraded both Lion and iTunes so I am not quite sure which one stopped this from working properly. Does anyone know how to get this functionality back?

  I've been told by my ISP I'm using too much bandwidth so after using Activity Monitor to see that I'm using ~2GB a day I've used the nettop command line utility to work out where. Turns out it's iTunes. I don't use it for downloading/streaming music (other than podcasts of which I definitely don't have 2GB of new ones a day) or movies. What is iTunes doing? • How can I install iTunes in such a way that it can't put any "hooks" or helper programs on my computer?

  I'm buying a new iPad, which means I must once again install iTunes. I've not used iTunes in more than 6 months, since I bought a new computer. I don't like iTunes, but I can live with using it to buy/manage media and sync my Apple devices when the program is open. What I would like to do though, is find a way to install iTunes in such a way that it has absolutely no effect on my system when it is closed. iTunes normally installs several helper programs such as iTunesHelper.exe, and the Bonjour service. These programs run in the background when iTunes is closed. You can force-close them, or remove them from your setup files, but iTunes will often put them right back when you run it. I know these programs are mostly harmless, but they have at times caused issues such as iTunes spending system resources trying to catalog media files or drives connected to VPN, or other issues. At best they're just one more small background process eating up a small piece of my CPU time and RAM. How can I run iTunes without letting it get it's "hooks" into my system? One thought I had is that I could create a Windows user account just for iTunes, and deny it admin privileges. Then if I installed iTunes using that account maybe anything it installed wouldn't affect the "main" account on my PC? But I'm not sure if that would work.... Failing that, maybe some kind of virtualization software or sandbox I could install it in? I'm open to any suggestions. My system is an Intel-based PC running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Thanks!

• Forked-daapd with alternative soundcard

  I am trying to configure forked-daapd on my computer, and everything goes well except that in configuration file I can not set a new value for the line corresponding to soundcard. This is the default code in the config file: #card = "default" I want to use a soundcard called "DG2", which is the soundcard no.1 and has a first device that ALSA recognizes as no.0. So, I change the line to the following: card = "hw:DG2,0" I restart the daapd service and the next time I play a file through iTune remote, I get a message in my server log file saying that it can not play the file because the device is busy. Any change in the device name will return a different error, saying that the device does not exist. I am pretty sure no other uses this external device, and I don't understand why I get this message. I have tried hwplug as well, with no result.

• filtering itunes library items by file location

  3 answers and unfortunately no solution yet. The Problem I've got way more than 1000 duplicated items in my iTunes Library pointing to a non-existant place (the "where" under "get info" window), along with other duplicated items and other MIAs (Missing In Action). Is there any simple way to just delete all of them and only them? From the library, of course. By that I mean some MIAs are pointing to /Volumes while some are pointing to .../music/Music/... or just .../music/.... I want to delete all pointing to /Volumes as to later I'll recover the rest. Check the image below. Some Background I tried searching for a specific key word on the path and creating smart play list, but with no result. Being able to just sort all library by path would be a perfect solution! I believe old iTunes could do that. PowerTunes can do it (sort by path) but I can't do anything with its list. I would also welcome any program able to handle this, then import and properly export back the iTunes library. Since this seems to just not be clear enough... AppleScript doesn't work That's because AppleScript just can't gather the missing info anywhere in iTunes Library. Maybe we could use AppleScript by opening the XML file, but that's a whole nother issue. • ScriptingBridge causes iTunes to relaunch after quit

  I'm working on a Cocoa app that monitors what you're listening to in iTunes, and since I'm targeting Mac OS 10.5 and higher, I've decided to use Scripting Bridge. If I try to close iTunes too close to the time that my app polls it for the current track, iTunes will immediately relaunch! The only way to reliably prevent this behavior is to quit my app first, then quit iTunes. Switching to EyeTunes solves the problem, but it's a fairly old codebase and I was hoping that I could accomplish this without an external library. Surely I'm doing something wrong that's causing the relaunch? • No video playback when using home sharing on iTunes for Windows

  I recently configured iTunes Home Sharing on my home network. My WHS server is the central library sharing both my Music and Video files. All my videos are encoded into H.264/MP4 format. All my machines are authorized and has access to Home Sharing. All my machines are running the latest version of iTunes 9. On my Snow Leopard machines iTunes happily plays the videos and music with no issues. On the Windows 7 machines however the play button fades for about 2 seconds when selecting a shared video and then nothing happens. The Windows machines are running the latest Community Codec Pack. Music sharing works perfectly on the Windows machines. When accessing the videos through the native WHS media connect sharing as well as through the file share I can play them perfectly on the Windows 7 machines. When adding the file to the iTunes library on the Windows 7 machine it also plays perfectly. Any advice, ideas or suggestions as to how to play the videos I have shared through Home Sharing on Windows 7?

• iTunes Home Sharing only works one way between 2 WinXP PC's on the same LAN

  Both PC's have the latest iTunes installed. PC (A) can "see" that there is a shared library "B library" but attempts to connect to it return this error message: The shared library "{Username}'s Library" is not responding (-3259) Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689. however the reverse works fine. e.g. PC (B) can "see" shared library "A library" and can access all content. Notes: Both PC's have Home Sharing enabled (turned off/on several times to verify). Both PC's have Windows Firewall turned on, but in the exceptions tab, iTunes is allowed, and Port 3689 is also added as a firewall exception (just in case) Both iTunes accounts have been "authorized" on both PC's Both PC's connect via LAN via D-Link DIR-615 router. In the advanced application rules, iTunes has also been added to allow traffic on port 3689 un-hindered. Is there any other magical setting/configuration option that I should be aware of and set in order to get this to work? I could care less about sharing apps etc. I just want the music sharing to work. Update: Solved! It turns out on PC (B) there were multiple accounts set up. 1 of the accounts had the checkbox checked under the windows firewall "On" option which states "No exceptions" thus even though it was added to the exception list on the main user account, this other account was blocking access.
