  • How can I get jQuery validation plugin Ketchup to stop an Ajax form submission when validation fails?

    - by Marshall Sontag
I'm using Ruby on Rails, Formtastic gem, jQuery and ketchup to validate my form. I'm submitting the form created by Formtastic inside a modal box using ajax: <% semantic_form_remote_for @contact_form, :url => '/request/contact' do |f| %> I have a validation plugin verifying the fields on the form: $(document).ready(function() { $("#new_contact_form").ketchup(); }); The problem is that semantic_form_remote_for generates an onSubmit ajax request that the jQuery validation plugins won't prevent, since it's not a normal form submission. One question on stackoverflow suggests using :condition on the remote form declaration to fire a javascript function, but I can't do that since I'm not using a function, but rather relying on a jQuery handler. I also tried putting ketchup within a submit event handler: $(document).ready(function() { $("#new_contact_form").submit(function() { $('#new_contact_form').ketchup(); }); }); No luck. Form still submits. I also tried using the beforeSend option of jQuery.ajax: $(document).ready(function() { jQuery.ajax( { beforeSend: function(){ $('#new_contact_form').ketchup(); } }); }); Validation fires off, but form is still submitted. I switched to jQuery Validation plugin just to see if it was due to some limitation in Ketchup. It turns out that Validation has a submitHandler option: $(document).ready(function() { $('#new_contact_form').validate({ submitHandler: function(form) { jQuery.ajax({ data:jQuery.param(jQuery('#new_contact_form').serializeArray()), dataType:'script', type:'post', url:'/request/contact' }); return false; } }); }); This works when I use a regular semantic_form_for instead of semantic_form_remote_for, but alas, I would rather use Ketchup. Is Ketchup just woefully lacking? Am I forced to use jQuery Validation?

  • jquery form validation: validation script specified externally

    - by Abu Hamzah
    i have a jquery form validation in the master page and it works fine and i got that working from this article: http://www.dotnetcurry.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=310 my question is: if i place the .js to external and add a reference to my page then its not working... it says object expected here is how i have done: in my content page (i am using master page, asp.net ) add in my content page: <script src="myform_validation.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { ValidateMe(this); }); </script> below is in the external .js file: function ValidateMe() { $("#aspnetForm").validate({ rules: { <%=TextBox1.UniqueID %>: { maxlength:1, //minlength: 12, required: true }, <%=TextBox2.UniqueID %>: { minlength: 12, required: true }, <%=TextBox3.UniqueID %>: { minlength: 12, required: true }//, // }, messages: { <%=TextBox1.UniqueID %>: { required: "Enter your firstname", minlength: jQuery.format("Enter at least {0} characters") }, <%=TextBox2.UniqueID %>: { required: "Please enter a valid email address", minlength: "Please enter a valid email address" } , <%=TextBox3.UniqueID %>: { required: "Enter your firstname", minlength: jQuery.format("Enter at least {0} characters") } } , success: function(label) { // set &nbsp; as text for IE label.html("&nbsp;").addClass("checked"); } }); } ;

  • Javascript form validation - what's lacking?

    - by box9
I've tried out two javascript form validation frameworks - jQuery validation, and jQuery Tools validator - and I've found both of them lacking. jQuery validation lacks the clear separation between the concepts of "validating" and "displaying validation errors", and is highly inflexible when it comes to displaying dynamic error messages. jQuery Tools on the other hand lacks decent remote validation support (to check if a username exists for example). Even though jQuery validation supports remote validation, the built-in method requires the server to respond in a particular format. In both cases, any sort of asynchronous validation is a pain, as is defining rules for dependencies between multiple inputs. I'm thinking of rolling my own framework to address these shortcomings, but first I want to ask... have others experienced similar annoyances with javascript validation? What did you end up doing? What are some common validation requirements you've had which really should be catered for? And are there other, much better frameworks out there which I've missed? I'm looking primarily at jQuery-based frameworks, though well-implemented frameworks built on other libraries can still provide some useful ideas.

  • jQuery validation per multiple fieldsets, how to use different event to trigger validation per secti

    - by Jesse
Hi All! I have a really, really long form (about 300 fields) that I broke down into different sections using this slick jQuery plugin Form Wizard. If you group your form into different fieldsets, the FormWizard will automagically display one section at a time, with a Next hyperlink to take you to the next section: <a id="step0Next" class="next" href="#">Next ></a> My question is this: Using the jQuery Validation plugin, how can I validate each fieldset when a user clicks Next, and so forth, instead of using the Submit button. Put differently, how can I change the trigger event from Submit to six different hyperlinks for six separate sections? Thanks for helping this newb out.

  • jQuery Autocomplete plug-in search configuration

    - by dev.e.loper
I'm looking into using jQuery autocomplete plug-in to implement user lookup by first or last name. It looks like by default autocomplete looks up words by character sequence no matter its occurrence in a word. So if you have data such as: javascript, asp, haskell and you type in 'as' you will get all three. I would like it to at least match beginning of the word. So in above example you get only 'asp'. Is there a way to configure jQuery Autocomplete plug-in to do this? Ultimately it would be even better to match by beginning of first or last name like it is in Gmail.

  • jQuery UI Tabs Plugin Broke

    - by Warren J Thompson
We are using the jquery ui tabs arrow plugin from this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/dECtZ/282/, but like many plugins, it breaks with the latest version of jQuery. • Recommended way to remove events on destroy with jQuery UI Widget Factory

    - by user1031947
I'm using the jQuery UI Widget Factory to build a jQuery plugin. My plugin binds custom events to the window... _subscribe: function() { $(window).on("dragger.started", function() { ... }); } I am wondering how to go about removing these events, when a particular instance of the plugin is destroyed. If I use... destroy: function() { $(window).off("dragger.started"); } ...then that will mess up any other instances of the plugin on the page, as it will remove all "dragger.started" events. What is the recommended way to go about destroying only those events that are associated with an instance of the plugin? Thanks (in advance) for your help.

  • Best Platform/Engine for turn based Client/Server Android game

    - by Paradine
I'm currently designing a turn based game for tablets. Initially for Android with porting to iOS later considered in design. I'm having trouble narrowing down the available technologies to even know where to spend my research time. I am hoping that if I explain what I am trying to achieve someone may be able to suggest a platform and/or engine. I've looked into some of the open source Engines ( http://www.cuteandroid.com/ten-open-source-android-2d-or-3d-game-engine-for-android-developers ) and some appear to handle much of what I might require - although with a higher focus on graphics than i need. Mages looks interesting although development appears to have ceased. If I could somehow leverage GoogleApps that would be excellent. Here is what I am trying to achieve: PvP turn based strategy game over internet - minimal animation and bandwidth required Players match up online using MetaGame system MatchID created on Resolution Server and Game starts Clients have 30 second countdown to select MoveString Clients sends small secure timestamped and MatchIDed MoveString to Resolution server Resolution server looks up Move String for each player, Resolves and Updates Players status in MatchID on Server Resolution server updates Client Views Repeat until victory conditions met - MatchID Closed, Rewards earned in MetaGame There will also need to be a full social and account system and metagame backend - but this could be running on separate system(s) Tablet in Offline mode would be catalog browsing and perhaps single player AI - bum I'm focusing on the Resolution Server at this point I'm not even certain if I would be looking at an Android App or a WebApp at this stage! I want a custom GUI so I guess an app - but maybe as I have little animation a WebApp might also work. Probably some combination of both. There will be very small overhead in data between client server - essentially a small text string every 30 seconds sent to the Resolution server which looks up the Effect and applies it to the Opponents string and determines some results to apply to the match. The client view is updated minimally with the results (only 5 in game Integers tracked) - perhaps triggering small animations/popups on the client to show the end result. e.g Explosion. If you have suggestions for a good technology or platform to best achieving the Resolution Server I'd love to hear. Also if you have experience with open source Engines - and could narrow down which (if any ) might be most suitable that would be a big help. Thanks in advance

    - by Jalpesh P. Vadgama
We all know that jQuery is a great JavaScript framework. It’s provide lots of functionalities and most used framework in programming world. But sometimes we need a functionality that does not provided by jQuery by default. At that time we need to extend jQuery. We can extend jQuery with jQuery.Extend  Method. You can get complete information from the following link. http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.extend/ It merges the contents of two or more objects together into the first object. • JQuery Validation [migrated]

    - by user41354
Im trying to get my form to validate...so basically its working, but a little bit too well, I have two text boxes, one is a start date, the other an end date in the format of mm/dd/yyyy if the start date is greater than the end date...there is an error if the end date is less than the start date...there is an error if the start date is less than today's date...there is an error The only thing is when I correct the error, the error warning is still there...here is my code: dates.change(function () { var testDate = $(this).val(); var otherDate = dates.not(this).val(); var now = new Date(); now.setHours(0, 0, 0, 0); // Pass Dates if (testDate != '' && new Date(testDate) < now) { addError($(this)); $('.flightDateError').text('* Dates cannot be earlier than today.'); isValid = false; return; } // Required Text if ($(this).hasClass("FromCal") && testDate == '') { addError($(this)); $('.flightDateError').text('* Required'); isValid = false; return; } // Validate Date if (!isValidDate(testDate)) { // $(this).addClass('validation_error_input'); addError($(this)); $('.flightDateError').text('* Invalid Date'); isValid = false; return; } else { // $(this).removeClass('validation_error_input'); removeError($(this)); if (!dates.not(this).hasClass('validation_error_input')) $('.flightDateError').text(' '); } // Validate Date Ranges if ($(this).val() != '' && dates.not(this).val != '') { if ($(this).hasClass("FromCal")) { if (new Date(testDate) > new Date(otherDate)) { addError($(this)); $('.flightDateError').text('* Start date must be earlier than end date.'); isValid = false; return; } } else{ if (new Date(testDate) < new Date(otherDate)) { addError($(this)); $('.flightDateError').text('* End date must be later than start date.'); return; } } } }); The main Issue is this part, I believe // Validate Date Ranges if ($(this).val() != '' && dates.not(this).val != '') { if ($(this).hasClass("FromCal")) { if (new Date(testDate) > new Date(otherDate)) { addError($(this)); $('.flightDateError').text('* Start date must be earlier than end date.'); isValid = false; return; } } else{ if (new Date(testDate) < new Date(otherDate)) { addError($(this)); $('.flightDateError').text('* End date must be later than start date.'); return; } } } testDate is the start date otherDate is the end date Thanks in advanced, J

  • JQuery username validation - Ajax call

    - by Denise
Hi, I am currently using JQuery's validation plugin for basic form validation such as required fields. I want to add functionality so that when the user types in the username field, an ajax call is triggered to check whether the username is already taken. My requirements are: Preferably integrate with JQuery Validation plugin, rather than writing a custom function I want the lookup to occur on the nkeyup event I want the lookup to be triggered approx 0.5 seconds after the keyup event has occurred. Thanks!

  • How can I use Windows Workflow for validation of a Silverlight application?

    - by Josh C.
I want to use Windows Workflow to provide a validation service. The validation that will be provided may have multiple tiers with chaining and redirecting to other stages of validation. The application that will generate the data for validation is a Silverlight app. I imagine the validation will take longer than the blink of an eye, so I don't want to tie the user up. Instead, I would like the user to submit the current data for validation. If the validation happens quickly, the service will perform an asynchronous callback to the app. The viewmodel that made the call would receive the validation output and post into the view. If the validation takes a long time, the user can move forward in the Silverlight app, disregarding the potential output of the validation. The viewmodel that made the call would be gone. I expect there would be another viewmodel that would contain the current validation output in its model. The validation value would change causing the user to get a notification in smaller notifcation area. I can see how the current view's viewmodel would call the validation through the viewmodel that is containing the validation output, but I am concerned that the service call will timeout. Also, I think the user may have already changed the values from the original validation, invalidating the feedback. I am sure asynchronous validation is a problem solved many times over, I am looking to glean from your experience in solving this kind of problem. Is this the right approach to the problem, or is there a better way to approach this?

  • Step by Step validation with jquery validation plugin

    - by Alex
I know its been asked many times already but no one could come up with solution so far. The idea is to have one form separated into few steps and validate each step on next click of the button. I know jquery validation plugin is offering quite complicated way of doing it with accordion but can anyone come up with a simple solution something like var stepOne = { rules: { fieldname1: "required", fieldname2: "required", } } $("form").validate(stepOne); //onclick hope someone could suggest the best way of doing it. Thanks.

Here are the two script tags that you will want to use when developing an application: <script type="text/javascript" src=”http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.js”></script> <script type="text/javascript" src=”http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery.templates/beta1/jquery.tmpl.js”></script> In addition, minified versions of both files are available from the CDN: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery.templates/beta1/jquery.tmpl.min.js"></script> Here’s a full code sample of using jQuery Templates from the CDN to display pictures of cats from Flickr: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Cats</title> <style type="text/css"> html { background-color:Orange; } #catBox div { width:250px; height:250px; border:solid 1px black; background-color:White; margin:5px; padding:5px; float:left; } #catBox img { width:200px; height: 200px; } </style> </head> <body> <h1>Cat Photos!</h1> <div id="catBox"></div> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery.templates/beta1/jquery.tmpl.min.js"></script> <script id="catTemplate" type="text/x-jquery-tmpl"> <div> <b>${title}</b> <br /> <img src="${media.m}" /> </div> </script> <script type="text/javascript"> var url = "http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/groups_pool.gne?id=44124373027@N01&lang=en-us&format=json&jsoncallback=?"; // Grab some flickr images of cats $.getJSON(url, function (data) { // Format the data using the catTemplate template $("#catTemplate").tmpl(data.items).appendTo("#catBox"); }); </script> </body> </html> This page displays a list of cats retrieved from Flickr: Notice that the cat pictures are retrieved and rendered with just a few lines of code: var url = "http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/groups_pool.gne?id=44124373027@N01&lang=en-us&format=json&jsoncallback=?"; // Grab some flickr images of cats $.getJSON(url, function (data) { // Format the data using the catTemplate template $("#catTemplate").tmpl(data.items).appendTo("#catBox"); }); The final line of code, the one that calls the tmpl() method, uses the Templates plugin to render the cat photos in a template named catTemplate. The catTemplate template is contained within a SCRIPT element with type="text/x-jquery-tmpl". The jQuery Templates plugin is an “official” jQuery plugin which will be included in jQuery 1.5 (the next major release of jQuery). You can read the full documentation for the plugin at the jQuery website: http://api.jquery.com/category/plugins/templates/ The jQuery Templates plugin is still beta so we would really appreciate your feedback on the plugin. Let us know if you use the Templates plugin in your website.

  • Applying effects to jquery-ui tabs

    - by VikingGoat
Is it possible to apply an effect to a jquery-ui tab, I haven't seen any examples of it, and I'm fairly sure that if it is possible the following is incorrect: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#tabs").tabs(); $("#tabs").effect(slide,options,500,callback); }); </script>
