  • Counting the number of words in a text area

    - by user1320483
    Hello everyone my first question on stack overflow import javax.swing.*; import java.util.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class TI extends JFrame implements ActionListener { static int count=0; String ct; JTextField word; JTextArea tohide; public static void main(String arg[]) { TI ti=new TI(); } public TI() { JPanel j=new JPanel(); JLabel def=new JLabel("Enter the text to be encrypted"); word=new JTextField("",20); tohide=new JTextArea("",5,20); JButton jb=new JButton("COUNT"); tohide.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLoweredBevelBorder()); j.add(def); j.add(tohide); j.add(word); j.add(jb); add(j); setSize(500,500); setVisible(true); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); setLocationRelativeTo(null); jb.addActionListener(this); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { String txt=tohide.getText(); StringTokenizer stk=new StringTokenizer(txt," "); while(stk.hasMoreTokens()) { String token=stk.nextToken(); count++; } ct=Integer.toString(count);; word.setText(ct); } } I want to count the number of words that are being typed in the textarea.There is a logical error.As I keep clicking the count button the word count increases.

  • Java Stopping JApplet Components from Resizing based on Applet Size

    - by Doug
    Creating a JApplet I have 2 Text Fields, a button and a Text Area. private JPanel addressEntryPanel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(1,3)); private JPanel outputPanel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(1,1)); private JTextField serverTf = new JTextField(""); private JTextField pageTf = new JTextField(""); private JTextArea outputTa = new JTextArea(); private JButton connectBt = new JButton("Connect"); private JScrollPane outputSp = new JScrollPane(outputTa); public void init() { setSize(500,500); setLayout(new GridLayout(3,1)); add(addressEntryPanel); addressEntryPanel.add(serverTf); addressEntryPanel.add(pageTf); addressEntryPanel.add(connectBt); addressEntryPanel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(50,50)); addressEntryPanel.setMaximumSize(addressEntryPanel.getPreferredSize()); addressEntryPanel.setMinimumSize(addressEntryPanel.getPreferredSize()); add(outputPanel); outputPanel.add(outputSp); outputTa.setLineWrap(true); connectBt.addActionListener(this); The problem is when debugging and putting it in a page the components / panels resize depending on the applet size. I don't want this. I want the textfields to be a certain size, and the text area to be a certain size. I've put stuff in there to set the size of them but they aren't working. How do I go about actually setting a strict size for either the components or the JPanel.

  • [java] tcp socket communication [send and recieve help]

    - by raven
    hello, I am creating a Chat in java. I have a method (onMouseRelease) inside an object that creates a tcp server and waits for a socket ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket(port); Socket channel = server.accept(); now I want to make a thread that will loop and read data from the socket, so that once the user on the other side sent me a string, I will extract the data from the socket [or is it called packet? sry I am new to this], and update a textbox to add the additional string from the socket [or packet?]. I have no idea how to READ (extract) the information from the scoket [/packet] and then update it into a JTextArea which is called userOutput. And how to Send a string to the other client, so that it will also could read the new data and update its JTextArea. (from what I know, for a 2 sided tcp communication you need one computer to host a server and the other to connect [as a client] and once the connection is set the client can also recieve new information from the socket. Is that true? and please tell me how ) Any help appreciated !! I know this is abit long but I have searched allot and didn't understand [I saw something like printwriter but failed to understand].

  • Breaking out of first element in IHTMLTxtRange

    - by XwipeoutX
    I'm trying to do a rich text editor for a web application, and I need to be able to mark some elements in the text as uneditable by the user. The reason for this is they're placeholders for dynamic content (like created date) that I want to have a live preview for. Take the following Code as an example - there's no toolbar or anything in this one, for light weightness, but the textarea and html are synchronized. <!-- DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd" --> <html> <head> <title>Hi</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script> $(function() { g = {}; g.iFrame = document.createElement("IFRAME"); $("#frameContainer").append(g.iFrame); g.iDoc = g.iFrame.contentWindow.document; g.iDoc.designMode = "on"; g.jTextArea = $("#textContainer textarea"); setTimeout(function() { g.iDoc.body.innerHTML = "<b class=\"notype\">Cannot type here</b>"; $(g.iDoc).trigger("keyup"); $(g.iDoc.body).focus(); }, 0); $(g.iDoc).keyup(function() { g.jTextArea.text(g.iDoc.body.innerHTML); }); g.jTextArea.keyup(function() { g.iDoc.body.innerHTML = this.innerText; }); var getSelection = function() { if (typeof g.iDoc.selection !== "undefined" && g.iDoc.selection.type !== "Text" && g.iDoc.selection.type !== "None") { g.iDoc.selection.clear(); } return g.iDoc.selection.createRange(); }; $(g.iDoc).keypress(function(event) { // If we're in a marked field, disable the operation. var sel = getSelection(); if ($(sel.parentElement()).hasClass('notype')) { sel.moveToElementText(sel.parentElement()); sel.collapse(); sel.move("character", -1); sel.select(); $("#log").append("<div>outside of thing</div>"); } }); $(testLink).click(function() { // Try and insert stuff at the front $(g.iDoc.body).focus(); var sel = getSelection(); sel.moveToElementText(sel.parentElement()); sel.collapse(); sel.move("character", -100); sel.pasteHTML("Before html?"); $(g.iDoc).trigger("keyup"); $(g.iDoc.body).focus(); }); }); </script> </head> <body id="#body"> <div id="container"> <div id="frameContainer"> <h1> Frame</h1> </div> <div id="textContainer"> <h1> Text</h1> <textarea rows="10" cols="80"></textarea> </div> <a href="#" id="testLink">Test</a> <div id="log"> </div> </div> </body> </html> In the keyup binding, I can successfuly detect if I'm inside another element, and move the cursor to the front of the text before inserting it no problem. However, since there is no text before the element marked as 'notype', it gets inserted inside the same element. This is double bad when the user presses "enter", as a new tag is genrated, and the "notype" tag is duplicated, obviously not required. I want the behaviour as follows: * If the user types while the cursor is in the 'notype' tag, the cursor is moved to front and the text goes there * If the cursor is at the last position inside the 'notype' tag, then the text appears after the tag * If the user types anywhere else, it's inserted as always. The link at the bottom tries to manually put the cursor at the front and insert the html. Obviously fails. I know this one can work by doing something like $(g.iDoc.body).prepend("before!"), but this obviously won't work in a real scenario (using keyup).

  • Java textfile I/O problem

    - by KáGé
    Hello, I have to make a torpedo game for school with a toplist for it. I want to store it in a folder structure near the JAR: /Torpedo/local/toplist/top_i.dat, where the i is the place of that score. The files will be created at the first start of the program with this call: File f; f = new File(Toplist.toplistPath+"/top_1.dat"); if(!f.exists()){ Toplist.makeToplist(); } Here is the toplist class: package main; import java.awt.Color; import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileNotFoundException; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; import java.util.Calendar; import java.util.prefs.Preferences; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import javax.swing.JTextArea; public class Toplist { static String toplistPath = "./Torpedo/local/toplist"; //I know it won't work this easily, it's only to get you the idea public static JFrame toplistWindow = new JFrame("Torpedó - [TOPLISTA]"); public static JTextArea toplist = new JTextArea(""); static StringBuffer toplistData = new StringBuffer(3000); public Toplist() { toplistWindow.setSize(500, 400); toplistWindow.setLocationRelativeTo(null); toplistWindow.setResizable(false); getToplist(); toplist.setSize(400, 400); toplist.setLocation(0, 100); toplist.setColumns(5); toplist.setText(toplistData.toString()); toplist.setEditable(false); toplist.setBackground(Color.WHITE); toplistWindow.setLayout(null); toplistWindow.setVisible(true); } public Toplist(Player winner) { //this is to be done yet, this will set the toplist at first and then display it toplistWindow.setLayout(null); toplistWindow.setVisible(true); } /** * Creates a new toplist */ public static void makeToplist(){ new File(toplistPath).mkdir(); for(int i = 1; i <= 10; i++){ File f = new File(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+".dat"); try { f.createNewFile(); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista létrehozása", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } } } /** * If the score is a top score it inserts it into the list * * @param score - the score to be checked */ public static void setToplist(int score, Player winner){ BufferedReader input = null; PrintWriter output = null; int topscore; for(int i = 1; i <= 10; i++){ try { input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+",dat")); String s; topscore = Integer.parseInt(input.readLine()); if(score > topscore){ for(int j = 9; j >= i; j--){ input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(toplistPath+"/top_"+j+".dat")); output = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(toplistPath+"/top_"+(j+1)+".dat")); while ((s = input.readLine()) != null) { output.println(s); } } output = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+".dat")); output.println(score); output.println(winner.name); if(winner.isLocal){ output.println(Torpedo.session.remote.name); }else{ output.println(Torpedo.session.remote.name); } output.println(Torpedo.session.mapName); output.println(DateUtils.now()); break; } } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista frissítése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista frissítése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } finally { if (input != null) { try { input.close(); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista frissítése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } } if (output != null) { output.close(); } } } } /** * This loads the toplist into the buffer */ public static void getToplist(){ BufferedReader input = null; toplistData = null; String s; for(int i = 1; i <= 10; i++){ try { input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+".dat")); while((s = input.readLine()) != null){ toplistData.append(s); toplistData.append('\t'); } toplistData.append('\n'); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista betöltése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista betöltése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } } } /** * * @author http://www.rgagnon.com/javadetails/java-0106.html * */ public static class DateUtils { public static final String DATE_FORMAT_NOW = "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"; public static String now() { Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(DATE_FORMAT_NOW); return sdf.format(cal.getTime()); } } } The problem is, that it can't access any of the files. I've tried adding them to the classpath and at least six different variations of file/path handling I found online but nothing worked. Could anyone tell me what do I do wrong? Thank you.

  • Unexpected StackOverflowError in KeyListener

    - by BillThePlatypus
    I am writing a program that can write sets of questions for review to a file for another program to read. The possible answers are typed into JTextFields at the bottom. It has code to ensure that there won't bew more than one blank JTextField at the end. When I type in answers, at varying points it will throw a StackOverflowError. • Swing: Scroll to bottom of JScrollPane, conditionally on current viewport location

    - by I82Much
    Hi all, I am attempting to mimic the functionality of Adium and most other chat clients I've seen, wherein the scrollbars advance to the bottom when new messages come in, but only if you're already there. In other words, if you've scrolled a few lines up and are reading, when a new message comes in it won't jump your position to the bottom of the screen; that would be annoying. But if you're scrolled to the bottom, the program rightly assumes that you want to see the most recent messages at all times, and so auto-scrolls accordingly. I have had a bear of a time trying to mimic this; the platform seems to fight this behavior at all costs. The best I can do is as follows: In constructor: JTextArea chatArea = new JTextArea(); JScrollPane chatAreaScrollPane = new JScrollPane(chatArea); // We will manually handle advancing chat window DefaultCaret caret = (DefaultCaret) chatArea.getCaret(); caret.setUpdatePolicy(DefaultCaret.NEVER_UPDATE); In method that handles new text coming in: boolean atBottom = isViewAtBottom(); // Append the text using styles etc to the chatArea if (atBottom) { scrollViewportToBottom(); } public boolean isAtBottom() { // Is the last line of text the last line of text visible? Adjustable sb = chatAreaScrollPane.getVerticalScrollBar(); int val = sb.getValue(); int lowest = val + sb.getVisibleAmount(); int maxVal = sb.getMaximum(); boolean atBottom = maxVal == lowest; return atBottom; } private void scrollToBottom() { chatArea.setCaretPosition(chatArea.getDocument().getLength()); } Now, this works, but it's janky and not ideal for two reasons. By setting the caret position, whatever selection the user may have in the chat area is erased. I can imagine this would be very irritating if he's attempting to copy/paste. Since the advancement of the scroll pane occurs after the text is inserted, there is a split second where the scrollbar is in the wrong position, and then it visually jumps towards the end. This is not ideal. Before you ask, yes I've read this blog post on Text Area Scrolling, but the default scroll to bottom behavior is not what I want. Other related (but to my mind, not completely helpful in this regard) questions: Setting scroll bar on a jscrollpane Making a JScrollPane automatically scroll all the way down. Any help in this regard would be very much appreciated.

  • How do I make my multicast program work between computers on different networks?

    - by George
    I made a little chat applet using multicast. It works fine between computers on the same network, but fails if the computers are on different networks. Why is this? import java.io.*; import java.net.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; public class ClientA extends JApplet implements ActionListener, Runnable { JTextField tf; JTextArea ta; MulticastSocket socket; InetAddress group; String name=""; public void start() { try { socket = new MulticastSocket(7777); group = InetAddress.getByName("233.0.0.1"); socket.joinGroup(group); socket.setTimeToLive(255); Thread th = new Thread(this); th.start(); name =JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,"Please enter your name.","What is your name?",JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE); tf.grabFocus(); }catch(Exception e) {e.printStackTrace();} } public void init() { JPanel p = new JPanel(new BorderLayout()); ta = new JTextArea(); ta.setEditable(false); ta.setLineWrap(true); JScrollPane sp = new JScrollPane(ta); p.add(sp,BorderLayout.CENTER); JPanel p2 = new JPanel(); tf = new JTextField(30); tf.addActionListener(this); p2.add(tf); JButton b = new JButton("Send"); b.addActionListener(this); p2.add(b); p.add(p2,BorderLayout.SOUTH); add(p); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { String message = name+":"+tf.getText(); tf.setText(""); tf.grabFocus(); byte[] buf = message.getBytes(); DatagramPacket packet = new DatagramPacket(buf,buf.length, group,7777); try { socket.send(packet); } catch(Exception e) {} } public void run() { while(true) { byte[] buf = new byte[256]; String received = ""; DatagramPacket packet = new DatagramPacket(buf, buf.length); try { socket.receive(packet); received = new String(packet.getData()).trim(); } catch(Exception e) {} ta.append(received +"\n"); ta.setCaretPosition(ta.getDocument().getLength()); } } }

  • Custom Lookup Provider For NetBeans Platform CRUD Tutorial

    - by Geertjan
    For a long time I've been planning to rewrite the second part of the NetBeans Platform CRUD Application Tutorial to integrate the loosely coupled capabilities introduced in a seperate series of articles based on articles by Antonio Vieiro (a great series, by the way). Nothing like getting into the Lookup stuff right from the get go (rather than as an afterthought)! The question, of course, is how to integrate the loosely coupled capabilities in a logical way within that tutorial. Today I worked through the tutorial from scratch, up until the point where the prototype is completed, i.e., there's a JTextArea displaying data pulled from a database. That brought me to the place where I needed to be. In fact, as soon as the prototype is completed, i.e., the database connection has been shown to work, the whole story about Lookup.Provider and InstanceContent should be introduced, so that all the subsequent sections, i.e., everything within "Integrating CRUD Functionality" will be done by adding new capabilities to the Lookup.Provider. However, before I perform open heart surgery on that tutorial, I'd like to run the scenario by all those reading this blog who understand what I'm trying to do! (I.e., probably anyone who has read this far into this blog entry.) So, this is what I propose should happen and in this order: Point out the fact that right now the database access code is found directly within our TopComponent. Not good. Because you're mixing view code with data code and, ideally, the developers creating the user interface wouldn't need to know anything about the data access layer. Better to separate out the data access code into a separate class, within the CustomerLibrary module, i.e., far away from the module providing the user interface, with this content: public class CustomerDataAccess { public List<Customer> getAllCustomers() { return Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("CustomerLibraryPU"). createEntityManager().createNamedQuery("Customer.findAll").getResultList(); } } Point out the fact that there is a concept of "Lookup" (which readers of the tutorial should know about since they should have followed the NetBeans Platform Quick Start), which is a registry into which objects can be published and to which other objects can be listening. In the same way as a TopComponent provides a Lookup, as demonstrated in the NetBeans Platform Quick Start, your own object can also provide a Lookup. So, therefore, let's provide a Lookup for Customer objects.  import org.openide.util.Lookup; import org.openide.util.lookup.AbstractLookup; import org.openide.util.lookup.InstanceContent; public class CustomerLookupProvider implements Lookup.Provider { private Lookup lookup; private InstanceContent instanceContent; public CustomerLookupProvider() { // Create an InstanceContent to hold capabilities... instanceContent = new InstanceContent(); // Create an AbstractLookup to expose the InstanceContent... lookup = new AbstractLookup(instanceContent); // Add a "Read" capability to the Lookup of the provider: //...to come... // Add a "Update" capability to the Lookup of the provider: //...to come... // Add a "Create" capability to the Lookup of the provider: //...to come... // Add a "Delete" capability to the Lookup of the provider: //...to come... } @Override public Lookup getLookup() { return lookup; } } Point out the fact that, in the same way as we can publish an object into the Lookup of a TopComponent, we can now also publish an object into the Lookup of our CustomerLookupProvider. Instead of publishing a String, as in the NetBeans Platform Quick Start, we'll publish an instance of our own type. And here is the type: public interface ReadCapability { public void read() throws Exception; } And here is an implementation of our type added to our Lookup: public class CustomerLookupProvider implements Lookup.Provider { private Set<Customer> customerSet; private Lookup lookup; private InstanceContent instanceContent; public CustomerLookupProvider() { customerSet = new HashSet<Customer>(); // Create an InstanceContent to hold capabilities... instanceContent = new InstanceContent(); // Create an AbstractLookup to expose the InstanceContent... lookup = new AbstractLookup(instanceContent); // Add a "Read" capability to the Lookup of the provider: instanceContent.add(new ReadCapability() { @Override public void read() throws Exception { ProgressHandle handle = ProgressHandleFactory.createHandle("Loading..."); handle.start(); customerSet.addAll(new CustomerDataAccess().getAllCustomers()); handle.finish(); } }); // Add a "Update" capability to the Lookup of the provider: //...to come... // Add a "Create" capability to the Lookup of the provider: //...to come... // Add a "Delete" capability to the Lookup of the provider: //...to come... } @Override public Lookup getLookup() { return lookup; } public Set<Customer> getCustomers() { return customerSet; } } Point out that we can now create a new instance of our Lookup (in some other module, so long as it has a dependency on the module providing the CustomerLookupProvider and the ReadCapability), retrieve the ReadCapability, and then do something with the customers that are returned, here in the rewritten constructor of the TopComponent, without needing to know anything about how the database access is actually achieved since that is hidden in the implementation of our type, above: public CustomerViewerTopComponent() { initComponents(); setName(Bundle.CTL_CustomerViewerTopComponent()); setToolTipText(Bundle.HINT_CustomerViewerTopComponent()); // EntityManager entityManager = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("CustomerLibraryPU").createEntityManager(); // Query query = entityManager.createNamedQuery("Customer.findAll"); // List<Customer> resultList = query.getResultList(); // for (Customer c : resultList) { // jTextArea1.append(c.getName() + " (" + c.getCity() + ")" + "\n"); // } CustomerLookupProvider lookup = new CustomerLookupProvider(); ReadCapability rc = lookup.getLookup().lookup(ReadCapability.class); try { rc.read(); for (Customer c : lookup.getCustomers()) { jTextArea1.append(c.getName() + " (" + c.getCity() + ")" + "\n"); } } catch (Exception ex) { Exceptions.printStackTrace(ex); } } Does the above make as much sense to others as it does to me, including the naming of the classes? Feedback would be appreciated! Then I'll integrate into the tutorial and do the same for the other sections, i.e., "Create", "Update", and "Delete". (By the way, of course, the tutorial ends up showing that, rather than using a JTextArea to display data, you can use Nodes and explorer views to do so.)

  • Repaint() not calling paint() in Java

    - by Joshua Auriemma
    Let me start off by saying I know I've violated some basic Java principles in this messy code, but I'm desperately trying to finish a program by Tuesday for a social science experiment, and I don't know Java, so I'm basically just fumbling through it for now. With that disclaimer out of the way, I have a separate program working where a circle is moving around the screen and the user must click on it. It works fine when its in its own separate class file, but when I add the code to my main program, it's no longer working. I don't even really understand why repaint() calls my paint() function — as far as I'm concerned, it's magic, but I've noticed that repaint() calls paint() in my test program, but not in the more complicated actual program, and I assume that's why the circle is no longer painting on my program. Entire code is below: import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Rectangle; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.geom.Ellipse2D; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Calendar; public class Reflexology1 extends JFrame{ private static final long serialVersionUID = -1295261024563143679L; private Ellipse2D ball = new Ellipse2D.Double(0, 0, 25, 25); private Timer moveBallTimer; int _ballXpos, _ballYpos; JButton button1, button2; JButton movingButton; JTextArea textArea1; int buttonAClicked, buttonDClicked; private long _openTime = 0; private long _closeTime = 0; JPanel thePanel = new JPanel(); JPanel thePlacebo = new JPanel(); final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Reflexology"); final JFrame frame2 = new JFrame("The Test"); JLabel label1 = new JLabel("Press X and then click the moving dot as fast as you can."); public static void main(String[] args){ new Reflexology1(); } public Reflexology1(){ frame.setSize(600, 475); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame.setResizable(false); frame2.setSize(600, 475); frame2.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame2.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame2.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame2.setResizable(false); button1 = new JButton("Accept"); button2 = new JButton("Decline"); //movingButton = new JButton("Click Me"); ListenForAcceptButton lForAButton = new ListenForAcceptButton(); ListenForDeclineButton lForDButton = new ListenForDeclineButton(); button1.addActionListener(lForAButton); button2.addActionListener(lForDButton); //movingButton.addActionListener(lForMButton); JTextArea textArea1 = new JTextArea(24, 50); textArea1.setText("Tracking Events\n"); textArea1.setLineWrap(true); textArea1.setWrapStyleWord(true); textArea1.setSize(15, 50); textArea1.setEditable(false); FileReader reader = null; try { reader = new FileReader("EULA.txt"); textArea1.read(reader, "EULA.txt"); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Problem loading file"); exception.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (reader != null) { try { reader.close(); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Error closing reader"); exception.printStackTrace(); } } } JScrollPane scrollBar1 = new JScrollPane(textArea1, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER); AdjustmentListener listener = new MyAdjustmentListener(); thePanel.add(scrollBar1); thePanel.add(button1); thePanel.add(button2); frame.add(thePanel); ListenForMouse lForMouse = new ListenForMouse(); thePlacebo.addMouseListener(lForMouse); thePlacebo.add(label1); frame2.add(thePlacebo); ListenForWindow lForWindow = new ListenForWindow(); frame.addWindowListener(lForWindow); frame2.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e){ if(e.getKeyChar() == 'X' || e.getKeyChar() == 'x') {moveBallTimer.start();} } }); frame.setVisible(true); moveBallTimer = new Timer(1000, new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { moveBall(); System.out.println("Timer started!"); repaint(); } }); addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) { if(frame2.isVisible()){ moveBallTimer.start(); } } }); } private class ListenForAcceptButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button1){ Calendar ClCDateTime = Calendar.getInstance(); System.out.println(ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime); _closeTime = ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime; //frame.getContentPane().remove(thePanel); //thePlacebo.addKeyListener(lForKeys); //frame.getContentPane().add(thePlacebo); //frame.repaint(); //moveBallTimer.start(); frame.setVisible(false); frame2.setVisible(true); frame2.revalidate(); frame2.repaint(); } } } private class ListenForDeclineButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button2){ JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(Reflexology1.this, "You've declined the license agreement. In here, when the JDialog is called, it just opens as a 100% blank window. I have added a JLabel, but it is not there when it is displaying. Anyway, it takes sometime to send the email, after the email is sent, I can see the JLabel in the JDialog. If I take my issue into one sentence, I am calling the JDialog before the email is sent, but it appears blank, after the email is sent, it's content are there! Why is this? Please help!

  • GUI Freezes and Output to JTextField from user input

    - by user2929005
    I am having I hope only two issues currently. I have had help on this on a previous question that I have asked but now I am running into different issues. My current issues now is that I need to print out into a JTextField a sorted array. I do not have questions about how to sort the array I just would like help on how to get the array to print to the JTextField when the Bubble Sort button is pressed. Currently when I press the button it freezes. It freezes at this line. list.add(Integer.valueOf(input.nextInt())); please help Thank you. import java.awt.EventQueue; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.util.*; public class Sorting { private JFrame frame; private JTextArea inputArea; private JTextField outputArea; ArrayList<Integer> list = new ArrayList<Integer>(); Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); /** * Launch the application. */ public static void main(String[] args) { EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { Sorting window = new Sorting(); window.frame.setVisible(true); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } }); } /** * Create the application. */ public Sorting() { initialize(); } /** * Initialize the contents of the frame. */ private void initialize() { frame = new JFrame(); frame.setBounds(100, 100, 450, 300); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setTitle("Sorting"); frame.getContentPane().setLayout(null); JButton bubbleButton = new JButton("Bubble Sort"); bubbleButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent arg0) { list.add(Integer.valueOf(input.nextInt())); // for(int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++){ // // } } }); bubbleButton.setBounds(10, 211, 114, 23); frame.getContentPane().add(bubbleButton); JButton mergeButton = new JButton("Merge Sort"); mergeButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { } }); mergeButton.setBounds(305, 211, 114, 23); frame.getContentPane().add(mergeButton); JButton quickButton = new JButton("Quick Sort"); quickButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { } }); quickButton.setBounds(163, 211, 114, 23); frame.getContentPane().add(quickButton); inputArea = new JTextArea(); inputArea.setBounds(10, 36, 414, 51); frame.getContentPane().add(inputArea); outputArea = new JTextField(); outputArea.setEditable(false); outputArea.setBounds(10, 98, 414, 59); frame.getContentPane().add(outputArea); outputArea.setColumns(10); JLabel label = new JLabel("Please Enter 5 Numbers"); label.setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.CENTER); label.setBounds(10, 11, 414, 14); frame.getContentPane().add(label); } }

  • Read / write program in Java using JFileChooser

    - by Casper Marcussen
    Didn't want to bother people in here, but since I am under a time pressure, I am desperate to get help. My questions is how to link the file choosen from a JFileChooser to a file, and how to convert it to string being able to display and edit it in a TextArea. I have the GUI set up using swing, but the link between actionListener and the JFileChooser is not complete. Any help would be much appreciated. Code: http://pastebin.com/p3fb17Wi EDIT: I found this program, that does pretty much what i wanted to, but it does not allow me to save the actual file : http://www.java-forums.org/new-java/8856-how-get-content-text-file-write-jtextarea.html

  • parser the xml and build a ui for user

    - by hguser
    Hi: Now I have to handle some xml in my java swing application. I have to build a swing ui according to the special schema ,then user can fill some values.After user completed,I will collect the information,validate the value and then build a xml file. For building xml file I can use the xmlbeans,however how to parse the schema and build a swing ui? Since the schema is rather complex. A schema can be found here: example schema I have to parser this schema,for the LiteralInputType ,a JTextArea should be built. However there are other types "complexType" and etc.. These types may not occur at the sametime. Some times only the LiteralInputType is needed,somethimes the ComplexType is needed,also maybe all of them are needed. So, how to implement it? Anyone can help me?

  • How to flash the JFrame on Windows taskbar when it needs attention?

    - by japflap7stackoverflow
    Hi, i'm a computer science student working on a Yahoo Messenger - like program implemented in Java. My problem is that whenever the JTextArea inside my frame contains new message updates, the user must be prompted even when his/her frame is minimized. Is there a workaround on how to make the JFrame on the taskbar blink when updates are received? In short, i badly need a way to notify the user that the frame has been updated even though it is minimized. Is that possible? Thanks for you help. ^_^
