• SSH from mac to linux -> start gnome-session -> X11 keyboard mapping all messed up.

  I have 2 computers: echo.local is running Ubuntu 9.04. justin.local is running Mac OS 10.6.1. X11 version on the mac is 2.3.4. I open X11 on the mac, and open a new xterm window (Applications Menu - Terminal), everything is fine. Keyboard works as expected. I do ssh -X echo.local from the mac (connecting to the linux box), and from the linux command prompt, start xterm - everything is fine. Keyboard works as expected. I do gnome-session from the linux command prompt (through SSH), gnome launches, but keyboard mapping is ALL types of screwed up. If I kill gnome-session and open an xterm via ssh, keyboard mapping is still screwed up. If I then kill the SSH session entirely, and do X11 - Applications Menu - Terminal, opening a brand new xterm window on the mac with no SSH session running at all ... keyboard mapping is still screwed up. Only after I quit X11 and relaunch, is the keyboard mapping back to normal. Keyboard layout under GNOME is Apple-MacBook/MacBook Pro.

• Can I setup a test server and then transfer everything to a diff. production server?

  Hello, I am going to be setting up a "real" server, but it's not being shipped for another week. I was planning on setting up most of the server's functionality using an extra workstation I have. I wanted to set-up Windows Server 2003 or 2008, IIS, Terminal Services, Firewall, and Antivirus on this regular machine. I'd also be installing software like Winzip and VMWare that'll be used on the server. I can't ghost the machine, as far as I've done in the past, because the motherboard/cpu/etc. will all be different. Is there any way to export all of the "server settings" or something like that so I can move everything from test to production? Is there any software out there that does something similar to this? Some things I'm going to have to wait on such as setting up the file server completely in its raid configuration, but I'd like to get the simple server stuff and network setup out of the way. Has anyone done this before? Do I need software, open-source or not, to do this? Or maybe there's a way to export all the server settings in some way? Thanks in advance! Justin

• Need to set up a proxy on Linksys E3200 to filter home internet

  the fact that I have a Linksys E3200 may not be important. I can configure the router through the web interface, but I don't know the things I will be toggling are called. I already do simple port forwarding to access applications on my Mac remotely. So router admin is not something I technically need explained. I'm looking to running a proxy on my home computer, that filters all HTTP traffic that goes through my router. So if my daughter is on her iPad and accesses Safari, my Mac will be the judge of the validity of the request. I need something like NetNanny I guess, but local. Actually, anything that can just filter all port 80 traffic that runs locally, but maybe validates with a password? I truly truly hope this question falls within the bounds of Serverfault. I'm not a total internet newb but I'm at a loss for what to Google. If possible answer this question: Is there a webapp that can listen on port 80, and validate requests to port 80 with a password? If so, can I forward all traffic on port 80 to my Mac, to be re-routed to the user? Is this the same as a VPN? Thank you for your help. Justin

  I was having some difficulty with running a Live Screencast under Linux. I've found jtvlc and tried using that, but whenever I use it the stream comes out either blank or lagged with extremely high latency. I have a fast internet connection and a fast computer, but am I perhaps taxing it too much? Any ideas on what I could possibly be doing wrong? # 1. Get an account on http://www.justin.tv/ # 2. • ASP.NET MVC & Detached Entity won't save

It works fine for insert but doesn't work for update, the database doesn't get called, so it's clearly not tracking the changes, as it's "detached".   So I have the below VB that creates an access file in the default workspace, creates a table, create some fields in that table...just need to know the syntax for setting the first data type/field to autonumber...GUID, Counter, etc will not work as in Access SQL ' error handling usually goes here dim ws as workspace dim dbExample as database dim tblMain as TableDef dim fldMain as Field dim idxMain as Index set ws = workspace(0) set dbExample = ws.CreateDatabase('string file path') set tblMain = dbExample.CreateTableDef("tblMain") set fldMain = tblMain.CreateField("ID", 'right here I do not know what to substitute for dbInteger to get the autonumber type to work ) tblMain.Fields.Append fldMain etc to create other fields and indexes so in this line: set fldMain = tblMain.CreateField("ID", dbInteger) i need to replace the dbInteger with something that VB reconizes as the autonumber property. i have tried GUID, Counter, Autonumber, AutoIncrement....unfortunately none of these work anyone know the syntax I am missing here? • Can you configure multiple KMS hosts in a primary / secondary relationship?

  We have two datacenters in our environment: primary and DR. I need to deploy a KMS service, and to be proactive, I would like to have a host in both datacenters. From what I have read, you can have up to 6 hosts without calling Microsoft, and it appears that what will happen is that a SRV record for each host will be placed in DNS. The client will query for those SRV records and randomly choose a host for the initial activation and will use that same server for all renewals. The server can be changed manually through a script and will automatically change if the initial server is unavailable when activating or renewing. My question is has anyone found a way to designate one server as the primary KMS host and designate the other as failover only? The reason I ask is that it is preferred that the client communicate with the primary datacenter during normal operations and only talk to the DR datacenter when needed because the bandwidth between the offices and the DR datacenter is limited compared to the primary. I am sure that this has been done before but I can not find it MSFT's documentation. Thanks, Mark

  Hey, Has anyone been able to get the Areas in ASP.NET MVC 2 to work? I created a new Area called "Secure" and placed a new controller in it named HomeController. I then Created a new Home/Index.aspx view. However, when I browse to http://localhost/myapp/Secure/ it gives a 404 resource cannot be found. http://localhost/myapp/Secure/Home gives the same error. • Debian + ProFTPD + LDAP Incorrect Password Issue

  I have the LDAP configuration configured for ProFTPD and I have modified the modules.conf file to include the LDAP module. However, every time I login with FileZilla I get 530 Login Incorrect. It does this for all users except those whose passwords are defined locally as well as in LDAP. The exact same setup works fine on my CentOS server and I've already tried re-installing it after purging the configuration files.

• Mac OSX server command equivalent for dhclient?

  Is there an MacOS command that makes a dhcp request, and renews the old lease, drops it for a new one, or usefully reports errors or lack of response from a dhcp server? This would both help fix networking on the machine after problems on the network without rebooting and would also be useful to diagnose wider networking problems from a mac. I can not find any command equivalent of dhclient though obviously some component must be serving this purpose. The question is, is that component exposed to a command line interface? I am biased to the command line for these features and may have overlooked settings panels or tools that might solve it using a gui interface. I believe this question is at the heart of this other question: Is there an equivalent command for 'init.d/networking restart' in OS X

  I have a need to convert any document gets uploaded to Image. I downloaded the exe (with all the dlls) on my local machine (dont have to install) export.exe sourcefile.doc destinationfile.gif this syntax works from my local dos prompt. How do I use the same syntax "export.exe exampledoc.doc exampledoc.gif" when an item is added to sharepoint doc library. and Do I need to put the folder (where the exe and dlls are for this) in the sharepoint frontend server so it's accessible? If yes, where should this folder reside? Does the folder and files need sharepoint service account access? • CSS 100% Height, and then Scroll DIV not page

  Okay so I haven't been able to find a question with an answer yet, so I decided to make my own. I am trying to create a 100% fluid layout, which technically I have done. http://stickystudios.ca/sandbox/stickyplanner/layout/index2.php BUT, what I want it to now do, is make the page 100% in HEIGHT... But I don't want the page to scroll I want the inner DIV to scroll. So I believe in short I want it to detect the height of the viewport screen, go 100%, and then IF content is longer then the screen, scroll the specific DIV, NOT the page. I hope this makes sense. • MonoRail - Select parent category from one dropdown, show child category dropdown

  Hey, I'm new to MonoRail and am trying to figure out how to have it so that I can select a parent category in a dropdown then have it show a second dropdown with the categories that are children of the parent. If I were using what I'm used to, ASP.NET MVC, I would have a javascript function that would be called onchange of the first dropdown and would make an ajax call to a controller method (passing in the selected parent category id) that would grab all child categories of that parent category and return them in JSON. Then in the callback javascript function I would eval the JSON and populate the second dropdown with the child categories. How would I do this using MonoRail/jQuery? • EJB3 Caching Instance Variables

  Hi, I've noticed some strange code on a project I am working on - its a SLSB EJB3, and it uses a private instance variable to maintain a cache of data (it even calls it dataCache or something), with a getter/setter. For EJB2 and bellow, this was a typical EJB antipattern - SLSBs are not meant to retain state in between invocations, theres no guarantee you'll see the same data on a subsequent invocation. One of my colleagues said maybe its ok in EJB3 (we don't have much EJB3 experience), but still, its a Stateless Session Bean - why is it trying to maintain state, this doesn't make sense. Can anyone confirm if this is still a bad idea in EJB3 land, or if somehow it is ok? Thanks if you can help, Justin

• Access 2007 & 2003 : Creating an mde for 2003 users with a 2007 dev copy issues

  So i have an image on my computer that has office 2007, and I have the development copy of this database file where I corrected some code, added some fields, etc... I then converted the Access file (.mdb dev file) to Access 2002-2003 format to create an mde. So I then created the new mde, but when users try to open, it gives them the message that it is not the correct format and that they should upgrade to a newer version of access. So will i be able to get this done with having office 2007, and these other end users not having their new image pushed yet (so they still have office 2003)? I thought that if I converted the file to 2002-2003 then this should not be a problem Thanks Justin

• Access 2007 VBA : Building a listbox with selection choices from another list box

  So there are 8 categories that may be associated to each order, but not necessarily all of them. So i was going to build a list box that allowed the user to double click each of the category they wish to associate when they have an "Order Detail" form opened up (unbound form that has hidden text boxes with all needed ID numbers). I want to have another empty text box right beside it that will allow me to append the selections (up to 8) so the user can see that they have been added. So one list box with the default choices, and when a choice is double clicked, it adds that choice to the second list box to see the tally so to speak. • Modify database for the SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Search administration web site

  Does anyone know how to modify the database settings for the Enterprise Search administration web site? When you configure the service application via Central Administration, SharePoint just decides to use the default database server and gives a name like Enterprise_Search_DB_Identifier. I want to modify this to atleast give a name that makes scense like SharePoint_Search_AdministrationWebContent, and it might be nice to move it to the database server that is hosting the crawl and property database. I figured out how to move the Central Administration web content database, but this database is not listed as a content database. It is listed as a Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchAdminDatabase. I have not tested to see if the same process would work but because you are doing a RemoveContentDatabase and NewContentDatabase, I would assume not. Any help would be appreciated.

So orderID is a FOREIGN KEY in the Products Table please help thanks justin

• CruiseControl.rb: Error in plugin EmailNotifier: 501 5.1.7 Bad sender address syntax?

  Hi guys, I can't seem to figure this out. I setup my email address in cruisecontrol.rb but no matter how I set it, it always gives me this error. Current settings are: project/cruise_config.rb: project.email_notifier.emails = ['[email protected]'] project.email_notifier.from = '[email protected]' site_config.rb: ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = { :address => "localhost", :domain => "myemail.com", } I've even tried ActionMailer::Base.delivery_method = :sendmail Configuration.email_from = '[email protected]' Any thoughts as to why my cruisecontrol can't send an e-mail? • Rolling back database changes

  Hi, I work in team which uses Work flow management tool. I was presented with a challenge where the user should be able to roll back the changes made anytime during the flow to a certain point in the past. Surely the toll can handle it but the additional database calls that may have made during these activities have to be manually rolled back. the challenge is that there are multiple parallel paths and there different permutations of external database calls. So is there a frame work or a way to keep track of these DB calls and rollback them?. thank you, Justin

I now want to an add extra gen_server to the supervisor structure, using the same module Module/Fn as above, but different arguments, eg {my_server_2, {my_server, start_link, [123]}, permanent, 5000, worker, [my_server_2]} I thought this would work, but no: =SUPERVISOR REPORT==== 15-Apr-2010::16:50:13 === Supervisor: {local,my_sup} Context: start_error Reason: {already_started,<0.179.0>} Offender: [{pid,undefined}, {name,my_server_2}, {mfa,{my_server,start_link,[]}}, {restart_type,permanent}, {shutdown,5000}, {child_type,worker}] Do the module arguments in the second element of each child specification need to be different ?
