• Logitech Optical Mouse Frozen In Middle of Windows XP Pro Screen

  I have a Logitech Optical Mouse/Keyboard. I have been using them just fine with the system drivers for almost a year now. I recently updated my Kaspersky software and rebooted. Now the mouse is frozen in the middle of my screen. I am not able to login to the Windows XP Pro box that has the frozen mouse (because i can't work the mouse) but am able to remote desktop to this computer. Things I know / have tried: When I boot on the problem computer, I am able to use the keyboard, but not the mouse. I have installed the latest version of Logitech's SetPoint (with the updated drivers) on the problem computer (via remote desktop) and that didn't seem to matter. I bought new batteries for the mouse and that didn't matter. I have tried the mouse/keyboard on another computer and the mouse works just fine there. My suspicion is that the Kaspersky install has overwritten a driver of some sort. Things I have not done (and would appreciate detailed steps if you feel this is the way to go): 1) Uninstalled all the mouse drivers on the machine and reboot. Then, reinstall. Note: When I get to the Device Manager I don't see an option for Human Interface Devices (where the mouse device is). Here are my options: Computer, Disk Drives, DVD/CD-Rom drives, Floppy controllers, IDE ATA/ATAPI, Imaging devices, Network Adapters, Other devices, Ports, Processors, Sound, video, and gaming, System devices, USB controllers. Also, I should point out that Video Controller is the only thing under Other devices and it has a yellow exclamation mark. The same is true for all the items under Universal Serial Bus controllers. I think this means I have to update my BIOS but, since my mouse was working just fine without doing that, I don't think that is my problem. So, how do I get to my Mouse Device? 2) Update my BIOS. Note: As pointed out above, I don't think this matters as my mouse was working just fine under my computer's current BIOS version. Thanks for your help.

• Best way to clean the Apple Mighty Mouse?

  As much as I love Apple products' designs, I still don't like the mighty mouse. The scrolling keeps stopping in between very frequently. I tried the instructions provided on Apple's site and it does make the scrolling smooth but only momentarily. Isn't there any way to open it up and clean like a normal mouse? Or any other way to clean it better?

• Focus follows mouse stops working when opening window from launcher and no click to focus

  This is 12.04 default desktop (unity). I set it to focus follows mouse, and changed the menus to be on the window. This worked for a while, then some unknown even, maybe an upgrade maybe some other setting change caused it to stop working. There are many ways for this behavior to start but one reliable one is to bring a window to the foreground/focus with the launcher. Now the focus is stuck on that window and not just the window but the regions within the window so the close, maximize, minimize and menus do not work. I have to use mouse middle and then mouse right and then focus follows mouse is restored for a bit. The exact details of the mouse action aren't clear, sometimes it seems like just mouse middle helps, sometimes just right some times a desperate sequence of clicks :-( I have tried switching to the gnome desktop and it seems to occur less there but it is not eliminated. I have tried switching mice to an old wired USB mouse. I have tried creating a new account and that has not worked. I have observed "split focus" where to scroll button scrolls one one window but the input goes to another. I go trapped recently where my keyboard input went to libre office calc, but I was selecting the search term in the chrome address window. The selection "grayed" but the keyboard input for the search went to libre. Regions in windows have very confused focus. I have to work hard to get focus on for example the close gliph (X) or the minimize gliph (_).

• Mouse click events are delayed when moving the cursor in xubuntu 12.04

  I am trying out live xubuntu on my samsung n150 (netbook, similar to eeepc). So far everything seems perfect, except for this one thing. When I am clicking the mouse while moving the cursour, the click event is delayed. This is extremely annoying when i try to to move windows, because i end up clicking the window behind the window i am trying to move and thereby changing focus. This goes for all applications. I.e selecting text is difficult. There is no lag in the cursor movement, just the click event. The click event is registered with the new mouse position, not the one when the mouse was clicked. I tried searching for the problem, but all the other cases where either kind of different, or had no solution. EDIT: After testing some more, here are some more information. The click doesn't occur until i stop moving the cursor. If I move the cursor smoothly around, the click never gets through. I have ubuntu netbook remix 10.04 installed, and have no problems with the mouse there. EDIT2: Once I connected a usb-mouse, the problem dissappeared. Dragging now works perfectly with both the track pad and the usb mouse. I will update once I have installed xubuntu and figured out if this is a persistant problem. EDIT3: I have installed, and the problem is still there. It dissappears when I have a second mouse connected however, and after I resume from suspend. My solution for now, is just to keep the dongle connected all the time.

• Keyboard and mouse/touchpad wont work in 11.10

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 onto my Fujitsu Lifebook N5010 Laptop yesterday and all seemed good up until this morning. My key board and mouse/touchpad no longer work. I can, however, plug in a usb mouse and that works so I am able to shut the laptop off. With the usb mouse plugged in I still can't use the keyboard so the only thing the mouse is good for is shutting the system down. When I first boot the system the mouse/touchpad and keyboard will work long enough so that I can log in my password but then after about 20 seconds or so the mouse/touchpad and keyboard stop working. I have searched the internet for answers and haven't found anything that is working for me. Someone suggested I type a particular command into the terminal but not real sure how I do that without a keyboard. And going out to buy a usb keyboard (assuming that would work) and usb mouse still doesn't fix the problem. Anybody have any suggestions I would REALLY appreciate it. I love Ubuntu but this is just not good.

  I have dell laptop which does not have a numberpad, only a set of numbers above the qwerty layout. I want to be able to control the mouse cursor with my arrow keys. I activated the mouse keys by going to "System Setting" - "Universal Access" - "Pointing and Clicking" and activate "Mouse Keys" But still, I am unable to control the mouse cursor. How do I get this going so I don't have to take my hands off the keyboard?

• Ubuntu 12.10 Jerky mouse movments

  As the Title indicates I have some problem with delicate movement of the mouse in Ubuntu 12.10 fresh installation. The jerkiness is shown more at small and slow movements when the mouse will move a 2 millimeters to any random positions every 5 centimeters of movements. my mouse is a Microsoft Sidewinder Gaming mouse. is there any driver I can use to fix it or any configuration? this is happening both in unity or inside games and programs.

• Have Button re-appear immediately after clicking button in ListView row

  I have 4 buttons on a page. Each button opens a modal window and let’s the user input data in a form. When the user hits the save button in the modal, a ListView appears on the page with the submitted data. The button the user clicked to open the modal window is set to visible=false, so it’s gone when the row is added to the ListView. Now there are 3 buttons and the same goes for those; when the user hits a button, a modal appears, and when the modal form is submitted, the button disappears and a row is added to the ListView. In the ListView row, there is a delete button. When this button is clicked, the row is deleted and the button that was initially clicked to add this row (and open the modal), SHOULD reappear, but it doesn’t. The row disappears, but I have to refresh the page before the button comes back. There is a ScriptManager on the masterpage, so I guess this is an AJAX partial refresh issue. I tried adding different events, but I can’t find the one that fires at the right time. I use an ObjectDataSource to fill the ListView, and the data comes from a database, wrapped in a business object. This code loads a business object in a List< and checks if the user inserted an item of a specific type. If he did, the button he used to open the modal is hidden. But the problem (I guess) is that the whole page isn't refreshed when the delete button is clicked in the ListView. • Logitech M185 Wirless Mouse issue

  An issue with a Logitech M185 mouse today. A user is unable to use the device. The device works perfectly fine on my PC (It appears as HID-compliant mouse), but not on her laptop. It does not appear in her device manager on the 'Mice and other pointing devices' section. I did notice an unknown device in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section, but when I try to update the driver, it says it has the most up to date driver. We've tried plugging in the dongle in multiple USB slots but no luck. Any advice? It's a HP 620 Laptop on Windows 7. Thank you :)

• Changing mouse behaviour in EOG

  When I open a photo in eog I can easily zoom with the mouse mouse wheel. This is kind of nice but since I have a touchpad with two-fingered scrolling and horizontal scrolling I'd rather scroll in the image and zoom by using Ctrl+Mouse Wheel? I basically want the same behaviour as in evince: Horizontal Scroll and Normal Scroll navigate within the image and Ctrl + Mouse Wheel zooms in and out. Is this possible somehow? [EDIT] I just figured out that what I want is already implemented: I can pan the image by using Ctrl + Mouse Wheel. This is fine as it is the behaviour I want only with the Ctrl inverted. But I cannot pan to the left. Up, down and right work fine. What's the problem?

  If I leave the computer and let it run into screensaver and lock the screen, the mouse left click won't go back to work. If I suspend the computer, the keyboard won't get back to work. It started after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04. Any tips to solve this problem? • Mouse cursor lag after lock screen, 64 bit 12.04

  Recently I have noticed that when I return to my computer after it has been "locked" for a while, the mouse pointer has significant lag. The cursor position appears to only update a few times a second. Moving the mouse results in the pointer "following" the movement in a jerky kind of way, and then continuing for some fraction of a second after I have stopped using the mouse. Replacing the mouse has no effect. (I have two differently branded and constructed usb optical mice). Plugging either mouse into a different usb port has no effect. Once the problem was resolved by "suspending" the system, and then re-starting it with the power switch, but this does not work every time. So far, the only fool-proof fix is to shut the system down and re-start it (re-boot). I have tried this suggested fix. It had no effect.

• Right-button drag-drop function in Gnome

  While I don't really miss the annoyances that go with working on Windows, one thing I do wish I had in Gnome is the ability to hold the right-mouse button down on a file and drag it to get the context menu asking if I want to move or copy the file. I realise the default tries to be sensible (like in Windows - defaults to move if on the same volume, or copy if on different) and that it can be overridden with <ctrl> or <shift> - but i'm still used to the right-mouse drag option and keep getting frustrated when it doesn't work...

• Reassign the Right button functionality of touchpad

  My notebook has a touchpad with two buttons. The touchpad works pretty well and I use it for vertical/horizontal scroll, two fingers scrolling etc. The Left button acts like the left button of a mouse. The Right button too, when clicked it makes appear the classic contextual menu (create new folder, move to trash etc...). The problem is that Right button doesn't work anymore for mechanical reasons, so pressing it has no effect. To recover the missing functionality, I'd like that pressing CTRL + Left button I get the same thing of pressing the Right button alone. Other combinations (CTRL + SHIFT + Left button) are also acceptable. Any way to do that?

• my mouse scroll wheel doesn't scroll

  It's only a minor thing but i can't solve it. I have a ps2 mouse on win xp sp3. the wheel has stopped scrolling in all apps however in apps that support it i can click the wheel and bring up the scrolling four way arrows and scroll that way. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and changing the wheel settings but to no effect. It obviously recognises the wheel since i can click it. Any ideas super users?!

• Use Those Extra Mouse Buttons to Increase Efficiency

  Did you know that the most commonly used mouse actions are clicking a window’s “Close” button (the X in the top-right corner), and clicking the “Back” button (in a browser and various other programs)?  How much time do you spend every day locating the Close button or the Back button with your mouse so that you can click on them?  And what about that mouse you’re using – how many buttons does it have, besides the two main ones?  Most mouses these days have at least four (including the scroll-wheel, which a lot of people don’t realize is also a button as well).  Why not assign those extra buttons to your most common mouse actions, and save yourself a bundle of mousing-around time every day? If your mouse was manufactured by one of the “premium” mouse manufacturers (Microsoft, Logitech, etc), it almost certain came with driver software to allow you to customize your mouse’s controls and take advantage of your mouse’s special features.  Microsoft, for example, provides driver software called IntelliPoint (link below), while Logitech provides SetPoint.  It’s possible that your mouse has some extra buttons but doesn’t come with its own driver software (the author is using a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, which amazingly is not supported by the Microsoft IntelliPoint software!).  If your mouse falls into this category, you can use a marvelous free product called X-Mouse Button Control, from Highresolution Enterprises (link below).  It provides a truly amazing array of mouse configuration options, including assigning actions to buttons on a per-application basis. Once X-Mouse Button Control is downloaded, its setup process is quite straightforward. Once downloaded, you can start the program via Start / Highresolution Enterprises / X-Mouse Button Control.  You will find the program’s icon in the system tray: Right-click on the icon and select Setup from the pop-up menu.  The program’s configuration window appears: It’s extremely unlikely that we will want to change the functionality of our mouse’s two main buttons (left and right), so instead we’ll look at the rest of the options on the right side of the window.  The Middle Button refers to either the third, middle button (found on some old mouses), or the pressing of the wheel itself, as a button (if you didn’t know you could press your wheel like a button, try it out now).  Mouse Button 4 and Mouse Button 5 usually refer to the extra buttons found on the side of the mouse, often near your thumb. So what can we use these extra mouse buttons for?  Well, clearly Close and Back are two obvious candidates.  Each of these can be found by selecting them from the drop-down menu next to each button field: Once the two options are chosen, the window will look something like this: If you’re not interested in choosing Back or Close, you may like to try some of the other options in the list, including: Cut, Copy and Paste Undo Show the Desktop Next/Previous track (for media playback) Open any program Simulate any keystroke or combination of keystrokes ….and many other options.  Explore the drop-down list to see them all. You may decide, for example, that closing the current document (as opposed to the current program) would be a good use for Mouse Button 5.  In other words, we need to simulate the keypress of Ctrl-F4.  Let’s see how we achieve this. First we select Simulated Keystrokes from the drop-down list: The Simulated Keystrokes window opens: The instructions on the page are pretty comprehensive.  If you want to simulate the Ctrl-F4 keystroke, you need to type {CTRL}{F4} into the box: …and then click OK. Assigning Actions to Buttons on a Per-Application Basis One of the most powerful features of X-Mouse Button Control is the ability to assign actions to buttons on a per-application basis.  This means that if we have a particular program open, then our mouse will behave differently – our buttons will do different things. For example, when we have Windows Media Player open, for example, we may wish to have buttons assigned to Play/Pause, Next track and Previous track, as well as changing the volume with the mouse!  This is easy with X-Mouse Button Control.  We start by opening Windows Media Player.  This makes the next step easier.  Then we return to X-Mouse Button Control and add a new “configuration”.  This is done by clicking the Add button: A window opens containing a list of all running programs, including our recently opened Windows Media Player: We select Windows Media Player and click OK.  A new, blank “configuration” is created: We repeat the earlier steps to assign buttons to Play/Pause, Next track and Previous track, and assign scrolling the wheel to alter the volume:   To save all our changes and close the window, we click Apply. Now spend a few minutes thinking of all the applications you use the most, and what are the most common simple tasks you perform in each of those applications.  Those tasks are then perfect candidates for per-application button assignments. • Simulating a mouse button click in Windows

  Hi everyone, I'm writing Remote Desktop clone in C++ using QT. So far I'm able to move the mouse cursor around fine. QT has a nice setPos function for that. However, I'm a bit lost as to what API/Library to use for simulating mouse button clicks. One method I'm aware of is to send the WM_(event) to a window using the window's HWND. However, I was hoping there was a more salient method for taking complete control over a mouse. Is there any other way to tell the operating system that the left mouse button has been clicked? Thanks.
