    Java's jar file format builds off of the zip file format, and supports compression of the class files inside it. When and how does the JVM decide which class files to uncompress and pull out of the jars on its classpath? Is the process dynamic and done at runtime as classes are needed, or are they all uncompressed up front before the program actually runs?

  • Trying to use the 7-zip self extracting archive GUI and it fails [closed]

    Trying to use the 7-zip self extracting archive GUI and it fails. When I try to create a "Self Extracting Installer" option, at the end of the install it runs my batch file and it appears to be extracting all the files just before it does that, but after extraction, the files are nowhere to be found (except within the .7z archive). Any idea on why this occurs? https://code.google.com/p/sfx-creator/

  • Windows command line ZIP extraction with checksum or similar ?

    What I need to do, at the command line, is: Extract the contents of a a ZIP archive. Change an arbitrary number of the extracted files. Repeat step 1, but because it is a huge archive, only extract the archived copies of the files changed in step 2 which is much faster. Ideally the extraction in step 3 would do something like a checksum on the files on disk and only extract those where the file in the archive has a different checksum. Or maybe compare the date changed stamp on the disk file. At the minute I use pkzipc.exe which is the command-line version of PkZip. I can't see a way to do it with this though. You can extract files from the archive that are newer than the disk files, but what I want is the opposite of that in a sense.

  • How to write multiple files from one NSData object?

    Hi there! I'm writing an iPhone app that includes in-app purchasing. It downloads a zip file, then I unzip the file using the popular NSData category (zlibDeflate) which outputs the uncompressed file into an NSData object. The zip file contains multiple files in it which I need to write to the Documents directory. How can I write each file separately from this one NSData object? writeToFile just writes the whole thing to one file. Thank you and let me know if you need any more information.

    I am using a fairly straight-forward script to open and parse several xml files that are gzipped. I also need to do the same basic operation with a ZIP file. It seems like it should be simple, but I haven't been able to find what looked like equivalent code anywhere. Here is the simple version of what I am already doing: $import_file = "source.gz"; $sfp = gzopen($import_file, "rb"); ///// OPEN GZIPPED data while ($string = gzread($sfp, 4096)) { //Loop through the data /// Parse Output And Do Stuff with $string } gzclose($sfp); What would do the same thing for a zipped file?

    Is there any way to unpack or extract a zip file with PHP that does not rely on any installed extension? Has anyone written a class or something that can handle it? Alternatively, is there a solution that uses an extension that is relatively commonly installed on most servers? After this operation I immediately need to load data from the generated sqlite db, which fails since I seem not able to determine when the zip is completely unpacked and/or the sqlite has been created.     I am using 7-Zip on Windows XP and whenever I download a .tar.gz file it takes me two steps to completely extract the file(s). I right-click on the example.tar.gz file and choose 7-Zip -- Extract Here from the context menu. I then take the resulting example.tar file and the right-click again and choose 7-Zip -- Extract Here from the context menu. Is there a way through the context menu to do this in one step?

    I'm just trying to compile the linux-based FCEUX (NES emulator) on my mac, OS X 10.5 Leopard.     Hello there, I tried to unzip a binary file to a membuf from a zip archive using Lucian Wischik's Zip Utils: http://www.wischik.com/lu/programmer/zip_utils.html http://www.codeproject.com/KB/files/zip_utils.aspx FindZipItem(hz, filename.c_str(), true, &j, &ze); char *content = new char[ze.unc_size]; UnzipItem(hz, j, content, ze.unc_size); delete[] content; But it didn't unzip the file correctly. It stopped at the first 0x00 of the file. For example when I unzip an MP3 file, it will only unzip the first 4 bytes: 0x49443303 (ID3\0) because the 5th to 8th byte is 0x00000000. I also tried to capture the ZR_RESULT, and it always return ZR_OK (which means completed without errors).   • Control Sysinternals Suite & NirSoft Utilities with a Single Interface

    Sysinternals and NirSoft both provide helpful utilities for your Windows system but may not be very convenient to access. Using the Windows System Control Center you can easily access everything through a single UI front end. Setup The first thing to do is set up three new folders in Program Files (or Program Files (x86) if you are using a 64bit system) with the following names (the first two need to exactly match what is shown here): Sysinternals Suite NirSoft Utilities (create this folder only if you have any of these apps downloaded) Windows System Control Center (or WSCC depending on your preferences) Unzip the contents of the Sysinternals Suite into its’ folder. Then unzip any individual NirSoft Utilities programs that you have downloaded into the NirSoft folder. All that is left to do is to unzip the WSCC software into its’ folder and create a shortcut. WSCC in Action When you start WSCC up for the first time you will see the following message with a brief explanation about the software. Next the options window will appear providing you an opportunity to look around and make any desired changes. WSCC can access utilities for both suites using a live connection if needed (utilities accessed live are not downloaded). Note: This occurs on the first run only. This is the main WSCC window…you can choose the utility that you want to use by sorting through an all items list or based on category. Note: WSCC may occasionally experience a problem downloading a particular utility if using the live service. We conducted a quick test by accessing two Sysinternals apps. First PsInfo… Followed by DiskView. Both opened quickly and were ready to go. There were no NirSoft Utilities installed on our test system in order to provide a live access example. Within moments WSCC accessed the CurrProcess utility and had it running on our system. Our recommendation is to download your favorite utilities from both suites (in order to always have easy access to them). Conclusion WSCC provides an easy way to access all of the apps in the Sysinternals Suite and NirSoft Utilities in one place. Note: A PortableApps version is also available.   • Using ZLib unit to compress files vs using ZipForge

    There are many questions on zipping in Delphi, anyway this is not a duplicate. I am using ZipForge for zip/unzip capability in my application. Currently I use 2 features of ZipForge: 1) zip and unzip (!) 2) password protect the archives Now I am removing the password from all the archives so I need only to zip and unzip files. I zip them just for minimizing bandwith when uploading/downloading files from the server. So my idea is to process all files once for unzipping them (with password) and rezipping them without password. I have nothing against ZipForge, anyway it is an extra component, every time I upgrade to a newest Delphi version I have to wait for the new IDE support and moreover the more components the more problems during the installation. So since what I do is very simple I'd like to replace ZipForge with 2 simple functinos using the ZLib unit. I found (and tested) the functions here on Torry's. What do you think of using Zlib unit? Do you see any potential problem that I would not have with ZipForge? Can you comment on speed?

  • Copying files SSH vs sFTP

    I'm a bit of a unix noob, but this question seems super basic, yet I can't find an answer anywhere. Basically, to my knowledge, sFTP is just FTP over ssh. So, why can't I drag and drop files from one folder to another on the server side like I can on ssh. Why when I want to unzip a .tar in a server folder, does it first want to copy it to my machine and then back? Why can't it just unzip like it can when I'm using the command line. I know that when I use the command line it is using the resources of the remote machine, but why can't sFTP do that too? Is there a way to execute commands which I would normally do over SSH, but in a gui? I'm tried mapping to the drive to my own machine, I've tried so many sFTP clients that it's silly. Is there another class of program that I just don't know of?

    I have 7z 4.65 and am trying to extract a single file to standard output. The 7z command-line help says -so is the command-line parameter to extract to standard output, but when I try this: >>> 7z e -so dist\dlogpkg.jar META-INF/MANIFEST.MF 7-Zip 4.65 Copyright (c) 1999-2009 Igor Pavlov 2009-02-03 Error: I won't write data and program's messages to same terminal how can I fix this? There doesn't seem to be a command line param to suppress the normal 7z stdout messages. (edit: the equivalent operation in "unzip" would be unzip -p dist\dlogpkg.jar META-INF/MANIFEST.MF which works fine. But I'd like to use 7z for various reasons.)
