  • How to send data from site to browser?

    - by SaltLake
    I'd like to send data to browser from server (website). For example on SO you receive notifications about new answers when answering a question. Should I every n seconds send ajax queries to server, or there are better ways of doing this? Is it possible to push data from server to browser?

  • Relating ping to perceived browser GUI response

    - by cvsdave
    We periodically get complaints of poor GUI (browser page) response that we need to explore. I am looking for a quick and cheap first check to see if the issue is network latency, or server performance. Has anyone encountered any discussion of ping time and perceived GUI response? I understand that GUI response is complicated, but it would be nice if we could find or develop a rule of thumb along the lines of "Hmmmm, ping is over 200, it might be network problems". Ideally, this lives in a script on the user's machine so that we can see the latency that they are seeing... (BASH, Linux). A reference to a good discussion page would be a fine answer, as would any recommendation of other source material.

    - by greysh
    The adapter in my code as follows, I extends the base adapter: @Override public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { ViewHolder vHolder; // if (convertView == null) { vHolder = new ViewHolder(); convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.home_item, null); vHolder.albumIcon = (ImageView) convertView .findViewById(R.id.albumIcon); try { Bitmap icon = aws.getAlbumImg(itemInfolist.get(position) .getAlbumInfoCol().get(0).getAlbumID(), 0); if (icon != null) { vHolder.albumIcon.setImageBitmap(icon); } else { vHolder.albumIcon.setImageBitmap(BitmapFactory.decodeResource( context.getResources(), R.drawable.album)); } } catch (Exception e) { vHolder.albumIcon.setImageBitmap(BitmapFactory.decodeResource( context.getResources(), R.drawable.album)); } convertView.setTag(vHolder); return convertView; } However, I download the imagine asynchronously, When invoke Bitmap icon = aws.getAlbumImg(itemInfolist.get(position).getAlbumInfoCol().get(0).getAlbumID(), 0); Some pictures which haven't downloaded will use the default image, after these picutures have downloaded in another Web Service Bean, I want the Web Service bean sends a message to invoke the getView method in this adapter in order to implement the auto refresh function. But if I change the Web Service Download Bean as follows,it will cause the exception 03-19 07:46:33.241: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(716): android.view.ViewRoot$CalledFromWrongThreadException: Only the original thread that created a view hierarchy can touch its views. • How to draw an RGB pixel with bare hands ? (no extra document just a browser)

    - by Rocket Surgeon
    In the browser tools, say in debugging (any browser will do, but IE9 preferred) how can I access things like html5 canvas and modify individual pixels by typing commands from prompt ? I know, it is possible to accomplish in miriad normal ways with preparing the markup and loading the page, but what is the shortest path ? The browser is running with some content, then I hit F12-Console- what exactly should I type to cause a canvas to change ? Thank you

  • After Repo sync, there are no files int he directory.

    - by taranfx
    I've setup a new Repo for Android source code, and after executing the repo sync, there are no files in the repo directory. Did I miss something? I used: repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git repo initialized in /home/tarandeep/code/Android repo sync ... It downloaded GBs of data (I can confirm via network monitor) and then nothing appeared in the Android directory.

  • SSL encryption standards by browser

    - by hfidgen
    Hiya, Does anyone have a table of the default levels of encryption which the various browsers out there support? For instance I know that IE5 and lower struggle even to cope with 40 bit encryption but the latest browsers easily do 256 and beyond. The reason I ask is that I'm looking to get a wildcard certificate for my domain and the price difference is huge between a server gated certificate (where it enforces a minimum of 128bit) and a non-gated certificate (where the browser sets the encryption level). Obviously I like the idea of paying £300 less for the non-gated certificate, but only if I can be sure that the majority of my users (FF3 / Opera / Chrome / IE7+) are going to get good encryption.

  • Host file in browser?

    - by acidzombie24
    Instead of changing my host file i'd like firefox to think my domain is on my own server while my other browser to use the real ip address. I use to edit my host files but that forces both browsers to change the ip address. I found change hostbut it doesnt appear to use the alternative host file. I also saw a comment asking when it will work on firefox 6+ I tried Host Admin and it fails. It works but the alternative IP address must be in your host file already (which i dont want) and it lets you deselect a domain so the host file is ignored. Not what i want.

  • onDateSet does not get called from DatePickerDialog on tablet

    - by cit
    I am using a DatePickerDialog to prompt the user for a date. It works fine in the simulator and on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but onDateSet does not get called on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. I noticed, that the dialog is bigger and shows a calendar besides the normal spin view. Can that be the problem? Here is some code: import java.util.Calendar; import java.util.Date; import android.app.DatePickerDialog; import android.app.Dialog; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.support.v4.app.DialogFragment; import android.widget.DatePicker; import com.cbit.gtbetapp.R; import com.cbit.gtbetapp.gui.racedata.MeetingDataActivity; import com.cbit.gtbetapp.gui.racedata.MeetingListFragment; import com.cbit.gtbetapp.logic.Utility; public class DatePickerFragment extends DialogFragment implements DatePickerDialog.OnDateSetListener { protected Date date = null; @Override public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) { // Use the current date as the default date in the picker final Calendar c = Utility.getToday(); int year = c.get(Calendar.YEAR); int month = c.get(Calendar.MONTH); int day = c.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); date = c.getTime(); // Create a new instance of DatePickerDialog and return it DatePickerDialog dialog = new DatePickerDialog(getActivity(), this, year, month, day) { @Override public void onDateChanged(DatePicker view, int year, int month, int day) { super.onDateChanged(view, year, month, day); setTitle(getString(R.string.date_picker_title)); } }; dialog.setTitle(getString(R.string.date_picker_title)); dialog.setButton(DatePickerDialog.BUTTON_POSITIVE, getString(android.R.string.ok), new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) { dialog.cancel(); Intent intent = new Intent(getActivity(), MeetingDataActivity.class); intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP); intent.putExtra(MeetingListFragment.EXTRA_DATE, date.getTime()); startActivity(intent); } }); dialog.setButton(DatePickerDialog.BUTTON_NEGATIVE, getString(R.string.button_cancel), new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) { dialog.cancel(); } }); return dialog; } public void onDateSet(DatePicker view, int year, int month, int day) { Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance(); c.clear(); c.set(Calendar.YEAR, year); c.set(Calendar.MONTH, month); c.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, day); date = c.getTime(); } } What could cause this? A bug in the tablet? Am I missing something? Can anyone think of a workaround? Thanks a lot!

  • Can SQLite file copied successfully on the data folder of an unrooted android device ?

    - by student
    I know that in order to access the data folder on the device, it needs to be rooted. However, if I just want to copy the database from my assets folder to the data folder on my device, will the copying process works on an unrooted phone? The following is my Database Helper class. From logcat, I can verify that the methods call to copyDataBase(), createDataBase() and openDataBase() are returned successfully. However, I got this error message android.database.sqlite.SQLiteException: no such table: TABLE_NAME: when my application is executing rawQuery. I'm suspecting the database file is not copied successfully (cannot be too sure as I do not have access to data folder), yet the method call to copyDatabase() are not throwing any exception. What could it be? Thanks. ps: My device is still unrooted, I hope it is not the main cause of the error. public DatabaseHelper(Context context) { super(context, DB_NAME, null, 1); this.myContext = context; } public void createDataBase() throws IOException{ boolean dbExist = checkDataBase(); String s = new Boolean(dbExist).toString(); Log.d("dbExist", s ); if(dbExist){ //do nothing - database already exist Log.d("createdatabase","DB exists so do nothing"); }else{ this.getReadableDatabase(); try { copyDataBase(); Log.d("copydatabase","Successful return frm method call!"); } catch (IOException e) { throw new Error("Error copying database"); } } } private boolean checkDataBase(){ File dbFile = new File(DB_PATH + DB_NAME); return dbFile.exists(); } private void copyDataBase() throws IOException{ //Open your local db as the input stream InputStream myInput = null; myInput = myContext.getAssets().open(DB_NAME); Log.d("copydatabase","InputStream successful!"); // Path to the just created empty db String outFileName = DB_PATH + DB_NAME; //Open the empty db as the output stream OutputStream myOutput = new FileOutputStream(outFileName); //transfer bytes from the inputfile to the outputfile byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; int length; while ((length = myInput.read(buffer))>0){ myOutput.write(buffer, 0, length); } //Close the streams myOutput.flush(); myOutput.close(); myInput.close(); } public void openDataBase() throws SQLException{ //Open the database String myPath = DB_PATH + DB_NAME; myDataBase = SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase(myPath, null, SQLiteDatabase.OPEN_READONLY); } /* @Override public synchronized void close() { if(myDataBase != null) myDataBase.close(); super.close(); }*/ public void close() { // NOTE: openHelper must now be a member of CallDataHelper; // you currently have it as a local in your constructor if (myDataBase != null) { myDataBase.close(); } } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { } @Override public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) { } }

  • Which devices is my app working on

    - by Woojah
    My team is developing an app that will work on about 100 (or more) different android devices. We are having trouble testing it since we are not sure how to verify if it works on all the different devices. Can anybody suggest some best practices, a testing framework, or some sort of way to give us feedback on how to test our app and/or get feedback from our users so they can tell us the problems they are having?

  • How can data not stored in a DB be accessed from any activity in Android?

    - by jul
    hi, I'm passing data to a ListView to display some restaurant names. Now when clicking on an item I'd like to start another activity to display more restaurant data. I'm not sure about how to do it. Shall I pass all the restaurant data in a bundle through the intent object? Or shall I just pass the restaurant id and get the data in the other activity? In that case, how can I access my restaurantList from the other activity? In any case, how can I get data from the restaurant I clicked on (the view only contains the name)? Any help, pointers welcome! Thanks Jul ListView lv= (ListView)findViewById(R.id.listview); lv.setAdapter( new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1,restaurantList.getRestaurantNames())); lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { Intent i = new Intent(Atable.this, RestaurantEdit.class); Bundle b = new Bundle(); //b.putInt("id", ? ); startActivityForResult(i, ACTIVITY_EDIT); } }); RestaurantList.java package org.digitalfarm.atable; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; public class RestaurantList { private List<Restaurant> restaurants = new ArrayList<Restaurant>(); public List<Restaurant> getRestaurants() { return this.restaurants; } public void setRestaurants(List<Restaurant> restaurants) { this.restaurants = restaurants; } public List<String> getRestaurantNames() { List<String> restaurantNames = new ArrayList<String>(); for (int i=0; i<this.restaurants.size(); i++) { restaurantNames.add(this.restaurants.get(i).getName()); } return restaurantNames; } } Restaurant.java package org.digitalfarm.atable; public class Restaurant { private int id; private String name; private float latitude; private float longitude; public int getId() { return this.id; } public void setId(int id) { this.id = id; } public String getName() { return this.name; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } public float getLatitude() { return this.latitude; } public void setLatitude(float latitude) { this.latitude = latitude; } public float getLongitude() { return this.longitude; } public void setLongitude(float longitude) { this.longitude = longitude; } }

  • Android: Stopping method to be called twice if already running.

    - by user285831
    I'm trying to prevent my application to call the same method twice in the event of a double-click, or if the user presses different buttons quickly, almost at the same time. I have clickable Views, acting as buttons, that call the same method but passing different parameters. This is the call: startTheSearch(context, getState(), what, where); Inside this method I'm creating a new Thread, because it queries a web server for the result: new Thread(new Runnable() { public void run() { progDiag = ProgressDialog.show(ctx, null, "Searching", true); getServerXML(context, what, where, searchIsCustom, mOffset); handler.sendEmptyMessage(0); } }).start(); The problem is that upon two quick clicks, the method is fired twice, two threads are created, and consequently two new activities are created. That makes my app crash. When the methods are done, and we have the result from the server, we call the handler: private Handler handler = new Handler() { @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg) { super.handleMessage(msg); try { Intent i = new Intent(Golf.this, Result.class); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putString("what", mWhat); b.putString("where", mWhere); b.putInt("offset", mOffset); b.putBoolean("searchIsCustom", searchIsCustom); i.putExtras(b); startActivityForResult(i, Activity.RESULT_OK); progDiag.dismiss(); } catch (Exception e) { Alerts.generalDialogAlert("Error", "settings", ctx); } } }; I tried to have a global boolean variable called "blocked" initially set to false, creating a condition like: if(!blocked){ blocked = true; new Thread(new Runnable() { public void run() { But this only seems to work on slower phones like the G1, I tried on Nexus and before it set blocked = true, the second request has was granted. So is there any way I can block the method being called if it's already running, or if the thread has started so it wont create a new one? Please, I really need to fix this. I've been developing on Android for almost 2 months now, but I'm yet to tackle that bug. Thanks in advance.

  • question on src folders in eclipse

    - by Jeff Colapietro
    So, I've been doing android application tutorials and everytime I create a package, for example the helloAndroid tutorial is com.example.android. When it saves this to src it creates a folder for com, another for example and one last one for android. So it gives me the error "class com.example.android does not exist" because its broken into different folders. If anyone can help me out please email me at: [email protected] Thank you very much.
