  • 3d symmetry search algorithm

    - by aaa
    this may be more appropriate for math overflow, but nevertheless: Given 3d structure (for example molecule), what is a good approach/algorithm to find symmetry (rotational/reflection/inversion/etc.)? I came up with brute force naive algorithm, but it seems there should be better approach. I am not so much interested in genetic algorithms as I would like best symmetry rather then almost the best symmetry link to website/paper would be great. thanks

  • Different ways to query this search in SQL?

    - by Bart Terrell
    I am teaching myself MS-SQL and I am trying to find different ways to find the Count of Paid and Unpaid Claims for 2012 grouped by Region from these 3 tables. If there is a returned date, the claim is unpaid if the returned date is null then the claim is paid. I will attach the code I have ran, but I am not sure if there are better ways to do it. Thanks. Here is the code: SET dateformat ymd; CREATE TABLE Claims ( ClaimID INT, SubID INT, [Claim Date] DATETIME ); CREATE TABLE Phoneship ( ClaimID INT, [Shipping Number] INT, [Claim Date] DATETIME, [Ship Date] DATETIME, [Returned Date] DATETIME ); • CSS placement of text

    - by Josh
    Anyone know how I can get "Posted by AUTHOR on April 3rd, 2010 | 0 Comments" underneath the headline of the news links WITHOUT it being apart of the A CLASS? I want it to look, read, and function like: [IMAGE] HEADLINE Posted by AUTHOR on April 3rd, 2010 | 0 Comments All of that in the initial looking field, then the user can click and it expands further. I can obviously get it to work if I put it in the A CLASS tag, but that's the problem. I can't have it there.

  • Cut off text before read more

    - by koko
    I have texts that most of the time fit in a div, but sometimes it doesn't fit. There is no way to determine how many characters/words/paragraphs fit in the div, so I can't cut it off that way. The div had a fixed height and width, so can we do something with that? Or do you have any suggestion how to get everything in the div, the correct way?

  • Zip Code Radius Search question...

    - by KnockKnockWhosThere
    I'm wondering if it's possible to find all points by longitude and latitude within X radius of one point? So, if I provide a latitude/longitude of -76.0000, 38.0000, is it possible to simply find all the possible coordinates within (for example) a 10 mile radius of that? I know that there's a way to calculate the distance between two points, which is why I'm not clear as to whether this is possible... Because, it seems like you need to know the center coordinates (-76 and 38 in this case) as well as the coordinates of every other point in order to determine whether it falls within the specified radius... Is that right?

  • Changing text size on a ggplot bump plot

    - by Tom Liptrot
    Hi, I'm fairly new to ggplot. I have made a bumpplot using code posted below. I got the code from someones blog - i've lost the link.... I want to be able to increase the size of the lables (here letters which care very small on the left and right of the plot) without affecting the width of the lines (this will only really make sense after you have run the code) I have tried changing the size paramater but that always alter the line width as well. Any suggestion appreciated. Tom require(ggplot2) df<-matrix(rnorm(520), 5, 10) #makes a random example colnames(df) <- letters[1:10] Price.Rank<-t(apply(df, 1, rank)) dfm<-melt(Price.Rank) names(dfm)<-c( "Date","Brand", "value") p <- ggplot(dfm, aes(factor(Date), value, group = Brand, colour = Brand, label = Brand)) p1 <- p + geom_line(aes(size=2.2, alpha=0.7)) + geom_text(data = subset(dfm, Date == 1), aes(x = Date , size =2.2, hjust = 1, vjust=0)) + geom_text(data = subset(dfm, Date == 5), aes(x = Date , size =2.2, hjust = 0, vjust=0))+ theme_bw() + opts(legend.position = "none", panel.border = theme_blank()) p1 + theme_bw() + opts(legend.position = "none", panel.border = theme_blank())

  • Using the FreeType lib to create text bitmaps to draw in OpenGL 3.x

    - by Andy
    At the moment I not too sure where my problem is. I can draw loaded images as textures no problem, however when I try to generate a bitmap with a char on it I just get a black box. I am confident that the problem is when I generate and upload the texture. Here is the method for that; the top section of the if statement just draws an texture of a image loaded from file (res/texture.jpg) and that draws perfectly. And the else part of the if statement will try to generate and upload a texture with the char (variable char enter) on. Source Code, I will add shaders and more of the C++ if needed but they work fine for the image. void uploadTexture() { if(enter=='/'){ // Draw the image. GLenum imageFormat; glimg::SingleImage image = glimg::loaders::stb::LoadFromFile("res/texture.jpg")->GetImage(0,0,0); glimg::OpenGLPixelTransferParams params = glimg::GetUploadFormatType(image.GetFormat(), 0); imageFormat = glimg::GetInternalFormat(image.GetFormat(),0); glGenTextures(1,&textureBufferObject); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, textureBufferObject); glimg::Dimensions dimensions = image.GetDimensions(); cout << "Texture dimensions w "<< dimensions.width << endl; glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGB8, dimensions.width, dimensions.height, 0, params.format, params.type, image.GetImageData()); }else { // Draw the char useing the FreeType Lib FT_Init_FreeType(&ft); FT_New_Face(ft, "arial.ttf", 0, &face); FT_Set_Pixel_Sizes(face, 0, 48); FT_GlyphSlot g = face->glyph; glGenTextures(1,&textureBufferObject); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, textureBufferObject); glPixelStorei(GL_UNPACK_ALIGNMENT, 1); FT_Load_Char(face, enter, FT_LOAD_RENDER); FT_Bitmap theBitmap = g->bitmap; int BitmapWidth = g->bitmap.width; int BitmapHeight = g->bitmap.rows; cout << "draw char - " << enter << endl; cout << "g->bitmap.width - " << g->bitmap.width << endl; cout << "g->bitmap.rows - " << g->bitmap.rows << endl; int TextureWidth =roundUpToNextPowerOfTwo(g->bitmap.width); int TextureHeight =roundUpToNextPowerOfTwo(g->bitmap.rows); cout << "texture width x height - " << TextureWidth <<" x " << TextureHeight << endl; GLubyte* TextureBuffer = new GLubyte[ TextureWidth * TextureWidth ]; for(int j = 0; j < TextureHeight; ++j) { for(int i = 0; i < TextureWidth; ++i) { TextureBuffer[ j*TextureWidth + i ] = (j >= BitmapHeight || i >= BitmapWidth ? 0 : g->bitmap.buffer[ j*BitmapWidth + i ]); } } glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGB8, TextureWidth, TextureHeight, 0, GL_RGB8, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, TextureBuffer); } }

  • Efficient data structure for fast random access, search, insertion and deletion

    - by Leonel
    I'm looking for a data structure (or structures) that would allow me keep me an ordered list of integers, no duplicates, with indexes and values in the same range. I need four main operations to be efficient, in rough order of importance: taking the value from a given index finding the index of a given value inserting a value at a given index deleting a value at a given index Using an array I have 1 at O(1), but 2 is O(N) and insertion and deletions are expensive (O(N) as well, I believe). A Linked List has O(1) insertion and deletion (once you have the node), but 1 and 2 are O(N) thus negating the gains. I tried keeping two arrays a[index]=value and b[value]=index, which turn 1 and 2 into O(1) but turn 3 and 4 into even more costly operations. Is there a data structure better suited for this?

My code is as follows: query = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://maps.google.co.jp/maps?&near=%f,%f&q=??????&output=kml&num=%d", lat,lon, num]; NSURL* url = [NSURL URLWithString:query]; NSURLRequest* request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; NSLog(@"Quering URL = %@", url); NSHTTPURLResponse *response = [[NSHTTPURLResponse alloc] autorelease]; NSData *myData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse: &response error: nil ]; NSInteger errorcode = [response statusCode]; I'm receiving "myData" with 0 bytes. why?

  • Position text in top of a dinamically generated map area of type poly

    - by Guillermo Vasconcelos
    Hi, I have a web page with a dynamically generated image map (from a server side charting tool that I have no control over). I have a value for each area in the title attribute that I want to display on top of the image. I could dynamically generate span elements with absolute positioning, but I'm not sure how to calculate the "center" of a poly shaped area to use as coordinates. Is there an easy way to create texts for image map areas? a JQuery plug in perhaps? Do you know a good way to calculate the center of a poly area? Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks, Guillermo

  • Is Fast Enumeration messing with my text output?

    - by Dan Ray
    Here I am iterating through an array of NSDictionary objects (inside the parsed JSON response of the EXCELLENT MapQuest directions API). I want to build up an HTML string to put into a UIWebView. My code says: for (NSDictionary *leg in legs ) { NSString *thisLeg = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<br>%@ - %@", [leg valueForKey:@"narrative"], [leg valueForKey:@"distance"]]; NSLog(@"This leg's string is %@", thisLeg); [directionsOutput appendString:thisLeg]; } The content of directionsOutput (which is an NSMutableString) contains ALL the values for [leg valueForKey:@"narrative"], wrapped up in parens, followed by a hyphen, followed by all the parenthesized values for [leg valueForKey:@"distance"]. So I put in that NSLog call... and I get the same thing there! It appears that the for() is somehow batching up our output values as we iterate, and putting out the output only once. How do I make it not do this but instead do what I actually want, which is an iterative output as I iterate? Here's what NSLog gets. Yes, I know I need to figure out NSNumberFormatter. ;-) This leg's string is ( "Start out going NORTH on INFINITE LOOP.", "Turn LEFT to stay on INFINITE LOOP.", "Turn RIGHT onto N DE ANZA BLVD.", "Merge onto I-280 S toward SAN JOSE.", "Merge onto CA-87 S via EXIT 3A.", "Take the exit on the LEFT.", "Merge onto CA-85 S via EXIT 1A on the LEFT toward GILROY.", "Merge onto US-101 S via EXIT 1A on the LEFT toward LOS ANGELES.", "Take the CA-152 E/10TH ST exit, EXIT 356.", "Turn LEFT onto CA-152/E 10TH ST/PACHECO PASS HWY. • Making GWT application crawlable by a search engine.

    - by Philippe Beaudoin
    I want to use the #! token to make my GWT application crawlable, as described here: http://code.google.com/web/ajaxcrawling/ There is a GWT sample app available online that uses this, for example: http://gwt.google.com/samples/Showcase/Showcase.html#!CwRadioButton Will serve the following static webpage to the googlebot: http://gwt.google.com/samples/Showcase/Showcase.html?_escaped_fragment_=CwRadioButton I want my GWT app to do something similar. In short, I'd like to serve a different flavor of the page whenever the _escaped_fragment_ parameter is found in the URL. What should I modify in order for the server to serve something else (a static page, or a page dynamically generated through a headless browser like HTML Unit)? I'm guessing it could be the web.xml file, but I'm not sure. (Note: I thought of checking the Showcase app provided with the GWT SDK, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to support serving static files on _escaped_fragment_ and it doesn't use the #! token..)

  • Android AlertDialog with dynamically changing text on every request

    - by Ulrich Scheller
    I want to show an AlertDialog with one option that might change on every request. So for example at one time I want to show the option "add to contacts" while another time it should be "remove from contacts". My code does work on the first time, however Android seems to cache the AlertDialog so that onCreateDialog is not executed next time. Therefore the option doesnt change anymore. Can I prevent this caching, or is there just another way of changing the option? I am working with SDK 1.5 but using 1.1. @Override protected Dialog onCreateDialog(final int id) { ... String add_remove_contact = res.getString(R.string.profile_add_to_contacts); if (user.getContacts().contains(profileID)) { add_remove_contact = res.getString(R.string.profile_remove_from_contacts); // TODO: this string is not changed when contact status changes } final CharSequence[] items = {res.getString(R.string.view_profile), res.getString(R.string.profile_send_message), add_remove_contact}; AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); ... return builder.create(); }

  • search & replace on 3000 row, 25 column spreadsheet

    - by Deca
    I'm attempting to clean up data in this (old) spreadsheet and need to remove things like single and double quotes, HTML tags and so on. Trouble is, it's a 3000 row file with 25 columns and every spreadsheet app I've tried (NeoOffice, MS Excel, Apple Numbers) chokes on it. Hard. Any ideas on how else I can clean this thing up for import to MySQL? Clearly I could go through each record manually, row by row, but would like to avoid that if at all possible. Likewise, I could write a PHP script to handle it on import, but don't want to put the server into a death spiral either.

  • replace a text string

    - by shantanuo
    I want to replace the date found at the end of the "datadir" line with the current date. For e.g. my my.cnf file looks like this... # head /etc/my.cnf [mysqld] #mount -t tmpfs -o size=102m tmpfs /mnt #datadir=/mnt read-only datadir=/mysqlApr5 #datadir=/mysqlApr2 #datadir=/mysqlMar16 #datadir=/mysqlFeb25a Most of the lines are commented. I need to find the datadir line that is not commented and then replace the /mysqlApr4 with /mysqlApr20 datadir=/mysqlApr20 If it is possible I will like to comment the older datadir path. #datadir=/mysqlApr5 I can output the current date as: date '+%b%d' But I want to concat it with the word "/mysql" and replace or comment the current datadir line.
