  • ubuntu: mumble 1.2.2 in Karmic

    - by Dan
Karmic only has mumble 1.1.8, but if I want to connect to a 1.2 server I need to upgrade... So I would like to know how I can upgrade to mumble 1.2.2 without messing myself up for later when I upgrade to 10.04 and beyond... I just want a smooth transition into the next versions of mumble. Is there anyway to upgrade to this newer version and either keep it in the package manager or make it not interfere with the natural upgrades the program will later recieve from the package manager? Thanks, Dan

  • Hardware needed to route between two networks over wireless

    - by AptDweller
I recently rented an apartment about 100 yards from my brother's house. I have line of sight to his house and can pick up his home AP signal with one of my two laptops if I go out on my balcony (facing his house) or put the laptop by the window. The other laptop will sometimes see the SSID broadcast, but fails to connect, drops, etc. We would like to set up a persistent wireless connection between our homes. We would prefer each network be logically segmented as independent networks, but he will share his internet connection. I've got a bunch of tv shows saved to a NAS by my TiVO that I'd like to make available to him across the wireless link. My brother strongly prefers to not mess with his WAP at all. His network is running fine and is afraid to mess it up. I guess you could say he is "technologically declined". If we can get a reliable 11Mbps connection we will be satisfied. What hardware do I need to make this work? I was thinking a router with two wireless interfaces (external antennas) a wired interface, and a directional antenna mounted on my balcony facing his house. Can anyone recommend hardware to make this happen? Cheaper is better. I'll only be living in the area a year or two. I do have an old satellite TV antenna if that can be used to direct the signal.

  • Linux stretch cluster: MD replication, DRBD or Veritas?

    - by PieterB
For the moment there's a lot of choices for setting up a Linux cluster. For cluster manager: you can use Red Hat Cluster manager, Pacemaker or Veritas Cluster Server. The first one has the most momentum, the second one comes by default with RH subscriptions and the last one is very expensive and has a very good reputation ;-) For storage: - You can replicate LUN's using software raid / md device - You can use the network using DRBD replication, which offers a bit more flexibility - You can use Veritas Storage Foundation technology to talk to your SANs replication technology. Anyone has any recommandations or experience with these technologies?

  • Tomcat memory usage grows until crash with no GC run

    - by Phil
I'm administrating a server running Tomcat that is getting a lot of traffic lately. If I monitor memory usage in Task Manager I can see the memory usage growing and eventually tomcat crashes around the 1GB mark. Here's the memory relevent bits I've set in Tomcat Properties (this is a Windows Server): Intial memory pool: 1024 MB Maximum memory pool: 1024 MB -XX:MaxPermSize=256M The weird thing is since these problems arose I've deployed Lambda Probe to the Tomcat instance and the memory usage values I see there are much lower, for example Task Manager might show 467MB used while the "Total" used in Probe is 212 MB. Also, the Maximum Total listed in Probe is 1.29GB, when I would have expected 1GB, the maximum memory set above. If I force the garbage collector to run using Probe, I can keep Tomcat from crashing for a while (indefinitely, AFAIK). So why doesn't the GC run automatically and stop Tomcat from crashing? Thanks.

  • SSH works in putty but not terminal

  • port forwarding with socks over proxy

    - by Oz123
I am trying to browse a wiki that runs on a server inside one domain from another domain. The wiki is accessible only on the LAN, but I need to browse it from another LAN to which I connect with an SSH tunnel ... Here is my setup and the steps I did so far: ~.ssh/confing on wikihost: Host gateway User kisteuser Port 443 Hostname gateway.companydomain.com ProxyCommand /home/myuser/bin/ssh-https-tunnel %h %p # ssh-https-tunnel: # http://ttcplinux.sourceforge.net/tools/stunnel Protocol 2 IdentityFile ~/.ssh/key_dsa LocalForward 11069 localhost:11069 Host server1 User kisteuser Hostname localhost Port 11069 LocalForward 8022 server1:22 LocalForward 17001 server1:7100 LocalForward 8080 www-proxy:3128 RemoteForward 11069 localhost:22 from wikihost myuser@wikihost: ssh -XC -t gateway.companydomain.com ssh -L11069:localhost:22 server1 on another terminal: ssh gateway.companydomain.com Now, on my companydomain I would like to start firefox and browse the wiki on wikihost. I did: [email protected] ~ $ ssh gateway Have a lot of fun... kisteuser@gateway ~ $ ssh -D 8383 localhost user@localhost's password: user@wikiserver:~> My .ssh/config on that side looks like that: host server1 localforward 11069 localhost:11069 host localhost user myuser port 11069 host wikiserver forwardagent yes user myuser port 11069 hostname localhost Now, I started firefox on the server called gateway, and edited the proxy settings to use SOCKSv5, specifying that the proxy should be gateway and use the port 8383... kisteuser@gateway ~ $ LANG=C firefox -P --no-remote And, now I get the following error popping in the Terminal of wikiserver: myuser@wikiserver:~> channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused Confused? Me too ... Please help me understand how to properly build the tunnels and browse the wiki over SOCKS protocol. update: I managed to browse the wiki on wikiserver with the following changes: host wikiserver forwardagent yes user myuser port 11069 hostname localhost localforward 8339 localhost:8443 Now when I ssh gateway I launch Firefox and go to localhost:8339 and I hit the start page of the wiki, which is served on Port 8443. Now I ask myself is SOCKS really needed? Can someone elaborate on that ?

  • How to configure IIS for SVG and web testing with Visual Studio?

    - by macias
Let's say I have a simple web page with svg image in it: <img src="foobar.svg" alt="not working" /> If I make this page as static html page and view it directly svg is displayed. If I type the address of this svg -- it is displayed. But when I make this as .aspx page and launch it dynamically from Visual Studio I get alt text. If I type the address of this svg (from localhost, not as a local file) -- browser tries to download it instead of displaying. I already defined mime type in IIS (for entire server -- "image/svg+xml") and restarted IIS. Same effect as before. Question: what should I do more? Update WireShark won't work (it is in documentation), I tried also RawCap, but it cannot trace my connection (odd), luckily Fiddler worked: From client: GET http://127.0.0.1:1731/svg/document_edit.svg HTTP/1.1 Host: 127.0.0.1:1731 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:10.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.1 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Connection: keep-alive Answer from server: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: ASP.NET Development Server/10.0.0.0 Date: Thu, 16 Feb 2012 11:14:38 GMT X-AspNet-Version: 4.0.30319 Cache-Control: private Content-Type: application/octet-stream Content-Length: 87924 Connection: Close <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <!-- Created with Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/) --> <svg xmlns: *** FIDDLER: RawDisplay truncated at 128 characters. • winbind failing after a semi-random amount of time

    - by The Digital Ninja
I have winbind set up to authenticate to our AD for samba shares. This is the third such server, and the only one having any issues. It seems after a random amount of time samba shares will just stop working. Winbind processes seem to be running but restarting them seems to fix the issue for a while. Looking at the logs have been kind of hit an miss and I don't know exactly when it fails. One interesting thing is that it seems to be pulling from another domain controller that it shoudlnt. I censored out the domain name in this example. But isnt there some way to block authentication to a domain? I'm not sure if this is a symptom or a cause of the issue. • Set up DPM to use hardware VSS Provider with EMC Clariion SAN

    - by Ryan
We recently purchased an EMC Clariion AX4 SAN and we're using it to provide storage for our Hyper-V virtual machines. I've already got the servers registered with it and configured the failover cluster CSV's, etc. I'm wanting to figure out what I have to do to set up the VSS Provider for the SAN, so that Microsoft Data Protection Manager can use it to backup the virtual machines. I'm new when it comes to Clariion SAN's, so I have no idea how to set up the VSS provider. I downloaded something from Powerlink that was labeled VSS Provider and installed it on one of the machines connected to the SAN. It had something to do with a Solutions Enabler (I don't know what that is), but it doesn't really seem like it did anything. I read something that suggested I'd need to have Navisphere Manager to use the VSS Provider on the AX4, but we didn't purchase that - we're just using Navisphere Express. Can anyone help me figure out how to get the VSS Provider up and running?

  • Weird Windows 2003 MSDTC and SQL 2005 issue

    - by seagull surfer
scenario: Windows 2003 sp2 x64 enterprise edition. SQL 2005 sp2 cu9 x64 Enterprise edition After restarting the resource groups on two node active-active cluster, 3 SQL 2005 instances start up fine. The 4th one starts up but starts throwing the following error. "Enlist operation failed: 0x8004d00e(XACT E NOTRANSACTION). SQL Server could not register with Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) as a resource manager for this transaction. The transaction may have been stopped by the client or the resource manager." MSDTC is fine since the other 3 function normally. The only way to "fix" it is to take the 4th instance offline and bring it online again. Is there any way to fix this enlistment without restarting?

  • IPSec VPN using ZyWALL IPSec VPN Client: unable to connect from some providers

    - by Reshi
I'm trying to configure an IPSec VPN to one company from my home. The company has SANET internet service provider. I was able to create a VPN connection from another company that has the same internet service provider. The problem begins when I'm trying to connect from another ISP like Orange or Telekom. Here is the log from ZyWall: 20120816 10:06:18:359 Default (SA Gateway-P1) SEND phase 1 Main Mode [SA] [VID] [VID] [VID] [VID] [VID] 20120816 10:06:18:375 Default (SA Gateway-P1) RECV phase 1 Main Mode [SA] [VID] [VID] [VID] [VID] [VID] [VID] [VID] [VID] 20120816 10:06:18:390 Default (SA Gateway-P1) SEND phase 1 Main Mode [KEY_EXCH] [NONCE] [NAT_D] [NAT_D] 20120816 10:06:18:718 Default (SA Gateway-P1) RECV phase 1 Main Mode [KEY_EXCH] [NONCE] [NAT_D] [NAT_D] 20120816 10:06:18:734 Default (SA Gateway-P1) SEND phase 1 Main Mode [HASH] [ID] 20120816 10:06:18:750 Default (SA Gateway-P1) RECV phase 1 Main Mode [HASH] [ID] 20120816 10:06:18:750 Default phase 1 done: initiator id [email protected], responder id 111.112.113.114 20120816 10:06:18:765 Default (SA Gateway-Tunnel-P2) SEND phase 2 Quick Mode [HASH] [SA] [KEY_EXCH] [NONCE] [ID] [ID] 20120816 10:06:18:953 Default (SA Gateway-Tunnel-P2) RECV phase 2 Quick Mode [HASH] [SA] [KEY_EXCH] [NONCE] [ID] [ID] 20120816 10:06:18:953 Default (SA Gateway-Tunnel-P2) SEND phase 2 Quick Mode [HASH] 20120816 10:06:48:968 Default (SA Gateway-P1) SEND Informational [HASH] [NOTIFY] type DPD_R_U_THERE 20120816 10:06:48:984 Default (SA Gateway-P1) RECV Informational [HASH] [NOTIFY] type DPD_R_U_THERE_ACK ZyWall informs me that the tunnel was opened. My configuration at home: ISP: Orange Optical connection Terminal: GPON OPTICAL NETWORK TERMINAL G-25E Router: TPLink TL-WR941N --> SPI Firewall Enabled --> VPN - IPSEC Passthrough Enabled I was wondering if the problem could not be on ISP side (that he blocks somehow this connection because in SANET ISP it worked fine) or even in my terminal or router. What could I check? Where could be the problem ?

  • Remote Socket Read In Multi-Threaded Application Returns Zero Bytes or EINTR (104)

    - by user39891
Hi. Am a c-coder for a while now - neither a newbie nor an expert. Now, I have a certain daemoned application in C on a PPC Linux. I use PHP's socket_connect as a client to connect to this service locally. The server uses epoll for multiplexing connections via a Unix socket. A user submitted string is parsed for certain characters/words using strstr() and if found, spawns 4 joinable threads to different websites simultaneously. I use socket, connect, write and read, to interact with the said webservers via TCP on their port 80 in each thread. All connections and writes seems successful. Reads to the webserver sockets fail however, with either (A) all 3 threads seem to hang, and only one thread returns -1 and errno is set to 104. The responding thread takes like 10 minutes - an eternity long:-(. *I read somewhere that the 104 (is EINTR?), which in the network context suggests that ...'the connection was reset by peer'; or (B) 0 bytes from 3 threads, and only 1 of the 4 threads actually returns some data. Isn't the socket read/write thread-safe? I use thread-safe (and reentrant) libc functions such as strtok_r, gethostbyname_r, etc. *I doubt that the said webhosts are actually resetting the connection, because when I run a single-threaded standalone (everything else equal) all things works perfectly right, but of course in series not parallel. There's a second problem too (oops), I can't write back to the client who connect to my epoll-ed Unix socket. My daemon application will hang and hog CPU 100% for ever. Yet nothing is written to the clients end. Am sure the client (a very typical PHP socket application) hasn't closed the connection whenever this is happening - no error(s) detected either. Any ideas? I cannot figure-out whatever is wrong even with Valgrind, GDB or much logging. Kindly help where you can.

  • How to access remote network resource from local machine

    - by jerluc
I just configured VPN access successfully so that I now can connect to my workstation at work from my personal Linux box at home. The problem is that all of my dev files for a server I'm locally running are on my personal box and cannot be transfered to my workstation (at least not in any timely manner over this connection given the amount of data, in addition to the many reconfigurations which would be required for the server to run even if I could somehow get the files across). So essentially, I am able to run my server locally on my personal computer, however, the data-sources required for the back-end are accessible only from within the office's network. But is there some way for me to somehow either access the data-sources directly through a VPN connection or even if I need to be a bit more convoluted by connecting via VPN to my workstation and then somehow connecting to the data-sources through my workstation to my personal computer? And here I could really care less about the speed of the connection from my server to the data-sources since they will probably only be fetched a few times every hour or so. Thanks! Sorry if this a stupid question and/or doesn't make any sense! (And sorry for anyone who read this at stackoverflow, I posted it in the wrong area.)

  • Juniper’s Network Connect ncsvc on Linux: “host checker failed, error 10”

    - by hfs
I’m trying to log in to a Juniper VPN with Network Connect from a headless Linux client. I followed the instructions and used the script from http://mad-scientist.us/juniper.html. When running the script with --nogui switch the command that gets finally executed is $HOME/.juniper_networks/network_connect/ncsvc -h HOST -u USER -r REALM -f $HOME/.vpn.default.crt. I get asked for the password, a line “Connecting to…” is printed but then the programm silently stops. When adding -L 5 (most verbose logging) to the command line, these are the last messages printed to the log: dsclient.info state: kStateCacheCleaner (dsclient.cpp:280) dsclient.info --> POST /dana-na/cc/ccupdate.cgi (authenticate.cpp:162) http_connection.para Entering state_start_connection (http_connection.cpp:282) http_connection.para Entering state_continue_connection (http_connection.cpp:299) http_connection.para Entering state_ssl_connect (http_connection.cpp:468) dsssl.para SSL connect ssl=0x833e568/sd=4 connection using cipher RC4-MD5 (DSSSLSock.cpp:656) http_connection.para Returning DSHTTP_COMPLETE from state_ssl_connect (http_connection.cpp:476) DSHttp.debug state_reading_response_body - copying 0 buffered bytes (http_requester.cpp:800) DSHttp.debug state_reading_response_body - recv'd 0 bytes data (http_requester.cpp:833) dsclient.info <-- 200 (authenticate.cpp:194) dsclient.error state host checker failed, error 10 (dsclient.cpp:282) ncapp.error Failed to authenticate with IVE. Error 10 (ncsvc.cpp:197) dsncuiapi.para DsNcUiApi::~DsNcUiApi (dsncuiapi.cpp:72) What does host checker failed mean? How can I find out what it tried to check and what failed? The HostChecker Configuration Guide mentions that a $HOME/.juniper_networks/tncc.jar gets installed on Linux, but my installation contains no such file. From that I concluded that HostChecker is disabled for my VPN on Linux? Are the POST to /dana-na/cc/ccupdate.cgi and “host checker failed” connected or independent? By running the connection over a SSL proxy I found out that the POST data is status=NOTOK (Funny side note: the client of the oh-so-secure VPN does not validate the server’s SSL certificate, so is wide open to MITM attacks…). So it seems that it’s the client that closes the connection and not the server.

  • How to get Windows Server 2008 VM to use multiple cores

    - by David Fraser
I have a Windows Server 2008 machine running in VirtualBox. On initial installation, only one processor was made available, but now I want to run it as a multiprocessor machine. I have made all four cores available in the VirtualBox settings (as well as enabling VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging), but Task Manager still only shows one CPU. However, the four CPU cores are visible in Device Manager under Processors. • Windows 7 fails to connect to the internet a few minutes after startup

    - by SageTheGreat
Problem Earlier today, when I turned on my desktop computer, my internet connection works fine. Cryptocurrency miners connecting and hashing as usual and I can browse websites. But after a few minutes, my miner fails indicating that there is something wrong with my internet connection. Tried refreshing my browser and is stuck at "resolving host", and then presented me an error. After that, i can't browse sites anymore. But the weird thing is that the network icon in Windows 7 shows no signs of problems. Solutions Made Restarted my computer without doing anything: Problem persists. Tried using the network troubleshooter of windows: Reported no problems Stopped bonjour still no progress. Loaded windows using Last good config: still no progress. Restarted Modem: No change. Current Status I currently did a system restore to my system to a point before installing the latest update from Microsoft. Because earlier today, I installed some updates and after that, the problem started to appear. (After system restore, same problem.) Latest Programs installed before the problem MS Visual Studio 2013 (but internet still worked fine after the install). I hope someone could provide answers on this problem. It is my first time encountering this. EDIT: Additional Info OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit AV: Avast Free Antivirus Internet Connection Type: Ethernet It appears that my Laptop can't even connect to the machine thru Remote Desktop My laptop and phone on WiFi works fine and can connect to the internet. • Recommended open-source firmware for ASUS RT-N16

    - by MasterF
I have recently acquired an ASUS RT-N16 router. My original plan for it was to install Tomato on it. However, after checking their website i found out that the firmware was not updated in the last 2 years. There seem to be a few updated mods but none of them really seemed mature/stable/well-documented. I would like to know what other people recommend as open-source firmware for this router. I know the answers will probably be subjective; so i will give a bit of background on my needs: for now i will only use the Wi-Fi on an Android phone the connection will not be shared with anyone (so QOS is optional) i want a stable (wired) connection on my PC (for online gaming etc.) i want the (wired) download/upload speeds to be as close as possible to those achieved by directly plugging the Ethernet cable to the PC's network card; i have a 100 Mbps connection my ISP uses PPPOE my technical level: i am a software developer and i have good knowledge of bash scripting, but no experience with networking Also, i know that i could probably just use the stock firmware (and maybe will use it for a while), but i'm interested in trying an open-source version (for more features, flexibility, as a learning exercise etc.)

  • Monitoring memcached with plink

    - by kojiro
I need a telnet client that can take commands from a file or stdin so I can do some quick-and-dirty automatic monitoring of memcached. I thought plink would be good for this, but it seems to be doing something beyond what I need: If I telnet into localhost 11211 and write stats, I get the memcached stats, like so: $ telnet localhost 11211 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. stats STAT pid 25099 STAT uptime 91182 STAT time 1349191864 STAT version 1.4.5 STAT pointer_size 64 STAT rusage_user 3.570000 STAT rusage_system 2.740000 STAT curr_connections 5 STAT total_connections 23 STAT connection_structures 11 STAT cmd_get 0 STAT cmd_set 0 STAT cmd_flush 0 STAT get_hits 0 STAT get_misses 0 STAT delete_misses 0 STAT delete_hits 0 STAT incr_misses 0 STAT incr_hits 0 STAT decr_misses 0 STAT decr_hits 0 STAT cas_misses 0 STAT cas_hits 0 STAT cas_badval 0 STAT auth_cmds 0 STAT auth_errors 0 STAT bytes_read 82184 STAT bytes_written 7210 STAT limit_maxbytes 67108864 STAT accepting_conns 1 STAT listen_disabled_num 0 STAT threads 4 STAT conn_yields 0 STAT bytes 0 STAT curr_items 0 STAT total_items 0 STAT evictions 0 STAT reclaimed 0 END But with plink, I get an odd error. I'm using this command: watch -n 30 plink -v -telnet -P 11211 127.0.0.1 <<< $'\nstats' The first time through I get: Looking up host "127.0.0.1" Connecting to 127.0.0.1 port 11211 client: WILL NAWS client: WILL TSPEED client: WILL TTYPE client: WILL NEW_ENVIRON client: DO ECHO client: WILL SGA client: DO SGA ERROR STAT pid 25099 STAT uptime 91245 STAT time 1349191927 STAT version 1.4.5 … END But when watch repeats the command I just get: Looking up host "127.0.0.1" Connecting to 127.0.0.1 port 11211 client: WILL NAWS client: WILL TSPEED client: WILL TTYPE client: WILL NEW_ENVIRON client: DO ECHO client: WILL SGA client: DO SGA Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1: Connection reset by peer Connection reset by peer FATAL ERROR: Connection reset by peer What is plink doing here that is different from normal telnet? How should I be going about this? (I'm not married to plink, but I need a way to continuously send simple telnet commands to memcached without writing a full-fledged perl script.)

  • cURL - Unkown SSL protocol error - OS X 10.9

    - by saq7
I am trying to use cURL and get the following error on every https request I make. The error is always the same. HTTP requests work flawlessly. The verbose output is quite useless. Saquibs-MacBook-Pro:~ skothawala$ curl https://google.com -vv * Adding handle: conn: 0x7fe09b803a00 * Adding handle: send: 0 * Adding handle: recv: 0 * Curl_addHandleToPipeline: length: 1 * - Conn 0 (0x7fe09b803a00) send_pipe: 1, recv_pipe: 0 * About to connect() to google.com port 443 (#0) * Trying 74.125.226.129... * Connected to google.com (74.125.226.129) port 443 (#0) * Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to google.com:-9805 * Closing connection 0 curl: (35) Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to google.com:-9805 I have looked through other answers on this forum and other places on the internet, but haven't found an answer. Most people's issues involve particular servers and the configuration of SSL on these servers. Mine however is problematic anytime HTTPS is used (with any website). Can someone please suggest what I should be looking into to solve the problem? Can it be that something is not properly configured? What should I be looking for?

  • Upgrading MySQL Connector/Net

    - by Todd Grover
I am trying to publish a website with our hosting provider. I am getting error due to the fact that they only allow a medium trust and the MySQL Connector/Net that I am using requires reflection to work. Unfortunately, reflection is not allowed in a medium trust. After some research I found out that the newest version of the MySQL Connector/Net may solve this problem. Connector/Net 6.6 includes enhancements to partial trust support to allow hosting services to deploy applications without installing the Connector/Net library in the GAC. I am thinking that will solve my problem. So, I unistalled MySQL Connector/Net 6.4.4 and I installed MySQL Connector/Net 6.6.4. When I run the application in Visual Studio 2010 I get the error: ProviderIncompatibleException was unhandled by user code The message is An error occurred while getting provider information from the database. This can be caused by Entity Framework using an incorrect connection string. Check the inner exceptions for details and ensure that the connection string is correct. InnerException is The provider did not return a ProviderManifestToken string. Everything works fine when I have Connector/Net 6.4.4 installed. I can access the database and perform Read/Write/Delete action against it. I have a reference to the following in the project: MySql.Data MySql.Data.Entity MySql.Web My connection string in Web.config <connectionStrings> <add name="AESSmartEntities" connectionString="server=ec2-xxx-xx-xxx-xx.compute-1.amazonaws.com; user=root; database=nunya; port=3306; password=xxxxxxx;" providerName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> What might I be doing wrong? Do I need any additional setting(s) to work with version 6.6.4 that wasn't required in the older version 6.4.4?

  • Recommendation on remote access setup for accessing customer systems

    - by gregmac
I'm looking for a product recommendation (open or commercial) that will allow remote access to customer sites for tech support purposes. We need to be able to gain access to help troubleshoot problems on servers. Currently end up using anything from RDP on public IP, to various VPNs that clients happen to have, to webex-type sessions that require lots of interaction from both sides to get things working. This often means a problem that could take 10 minutes to solve takes an extra 30+ minutes messing around trying to get a connection up. There are multiple customer sites, which should NOT have access to each other. At each site, there is anywhere from 1 to 8 servers (Windows 2003 or 2008) that need to be accessed. Support connection to machines even if they're behind a firewall/router with no public IP Be able to selectively allow/deny access from customer site. Customer site should not be able to connect outbound to anywhere else (our systems, or other customer sites) Support multiple users from our end If not a VPN connection (where RDP could be used over top), should support: Remote desktop access, including copy/paste File transfers Preferably would have some way to list all remote systems, showing online/offline. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • File permissions issue with an NFSv4 share, uploaded from a Mac Lion

    - by POP.sicle
I have an NFSv4 share that was working fine, with Macs using Snow Leopard, to share files across the network. The NFS share has one cloned user/group that all clients autoconnect as. However, when I use a Lion Mac to copy a file from their user directory to the NFS, no other computer (mac SL/mac Lion/Win7) can edit/delete/write to the file that was uploaded - despite having the correct read/write/ex permissions visible on the NFS and through terminal. Attempting to edit the file permissions through Finder completely locks the file. I suspect this has something to do with Lion's ACLs (or maybe its version control) conflicting with NFSv4. Is there a way to disable or ignore extended ACLs or extended file permissions on the NFSv4 side, that would allow users to not run into this conflict? The work around currently is to use NFS Manager and set automounts to ignore ownership but installing NFS manager and configuring automounts for all of the computers seems more troubling than attempting to reconfigure the NFS settings. Advice?
