• Ruby hpricot does not like dash in symbol, is there a workaround?

  I am trying to parse an xml file with hpricot. The xml element that I am trying to get has a dash though and hence the issue that I am facing xml <xliff xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.1" version="1.1"> <trans-unit> <source>"%0" can not be found. Please try again.</source> <target>"%0" can not be found. Please try again.</target> </trans-unit> </xliff> rb def read_in_xliff(xlf_file_name) stream = open(xlf_file_name) {|f| Hpricot(f)} (stream/:xliff/:'trans-unit').each do |transunit| .......... This does not work because of the dash. If I rename the tag to transunit and edit the symbol reference accordingly everything seems to be fine. I thought using the symbol between quotes should work but hpricot does not seem to like this. Can anyone think of a workaround? Thanks in advance

  I am trying to bind connection to the DB using JNDI in my application that runs on JBoss. I did the following: I created the datasource file oracle-ds.xml filled it with the relevant xml elements: <datasources> <local-tx-datasource> <jndi-name>bilby</jndi-name> ... </local-tx-datasource> </datasources> and put it in the folder \server\default\deploy Added the relevant oracle jar file than in my application I performed: JndiObjectFactoryBean factory = new JndiObjectFactoryBean(); factory.setJndiName("bilby"); try{ factory.afterPropertiesSet(); dataSource = factory.getObject(); } catch(NamingException ne) { ne.printStackTrace(); } and this cause the error: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: bilby not bound then in the output after this error occured I saw the line: 18:37:56,560 INFO [ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jb oss.jca:service=DataSourceBinding,name=bilby' to JNDI name 'java:bilby' So what is my configuration problem? I think that it may be that JBoss first loads and runs the .war file of my application and only then it loads the oracle-ds.xml that contain my data-source definition. The problem is that they are both located in the same folder. Is there a way to define priority of loading them, or maybe this is not the problem at all. Any idea?

  I am trying to write a MSBuild logger module which logs information when receiving TaskStarted events about the Task and its parameters. The build is run with the command: MSBuild.exe /logger:MyLogger.dll build.xml Within the build.xml is a sequence of tasks, most of which have been custom written to compile a (C++ or C#) solution, and are accessed with the following custom Task: <DoCompile Desc="Building MyProject 1" Param1="$(Param1Value)" /> <DoCompile Desc="Building MyProject 2" Param1="$(Param1Value)" /> <!-- etc --> The custom build task DoCompile is defined as: public class DoCompile : Microsoft.Build.Utilities.Task { [Required] public string Description { set { _description = value; } } // ... more code here ... } Whilst the build is running, as each task starts, the logger module receives IEventSource.TaskStarted events, subscribed to as follows: public class MyLogger : Microsoft.Build.Utilities.Logger { public override void Initialize(Microsoft.Build.Framework.IEventSource eventSource) { eventSource.TaskStarted += taskStarted; } private void taskStarted(object sender, Microsoft.Build.Framework.TaskStartedEventArgs e) { // write e.TaskName, attributes and e.Timestamp to log file } } The problem I have is that in the taskStarted() method above, I want to be able to access the attributes of the task for which the event was fired. • 'Stack level too deep' error in engine-like plugin with globalize

  Hello folks. I have built an engine-like plugin thanks to the new features of Rails 2.3. It's a 'Product' module for a CMS, extrapolated from a previously existing (and working) model/controller. The plugin relies on easy_fckeditor and on globalize (description and title field are localised), and I suspect that globalized could be the culprit here... Everything works fine, except for the update action. • Java application design question

  I have a hobby project, which is basically to maintain 'todo' tasks in the way I like. One task can be described as: public class TodoItem { private String subject; private Date dueBy; private Date startBy; private Priority priority; private String category; private Status status; private String notes; } As you can imagine I would have 1000s of todo items at a given time. What is the best strategy to store a todo item? (currently on an XML file) such that all the items are loaded quickly up on app start up(the application shows kind of a dashboard of all the items at start up)? What is the best way to design its back-end so that it can be ported to Android/or a J2ME based phone? Currently this is done using Java Swing. What should I concentrate on so that it works efficiently on a device where memory is limited? The application throws open a form to enter new todo task. For now, I would like to save the newly added task to my-todos.xml once the user presses "save" button. What are the common ways to append such a change to an existing XML file?(note that I don't want to read the whole file again and then persist)

• VB.NET switching from ADO.NET to LINQ

  I'm VERY new to Linq. I have an application I wrote that is in VB.NET 2.0. Works great, but I'd like to switch this application to Linq. I use ADO.NET to load XML into a datatable. The XML file has about 90,000 records in it. I then use the Datatable.Select to perform searches against that Datatable. The search control is a free form textbox. So if the user types in terms it searches instantly. Any further terms that are typed in continue to restrict the results. So you can type in Bob, or type in Bob Barker. Or type in Bob Barker Price is Right. The more criteria typed in the more narrowed your result. I bind the results to a gridview. Moving forward what all do I need to do? From a high level, I assume I need to: 1) Go to Project Properties -- Advanced Compiler Settings and change the Target framework to 3.5 from 2.0. 2) Add the reference to System.XML.Linq, Add the Imports statement to the classes. So I'm not sure what the best approach is going forward after that. I assume I use XDocument.Load, then my search subroutine runs against the XDocument. Do I just do the standard Linq query for this sort of repeated search? Like so: var people = from phonebook in doc.Root.Elements("phonebook") where phonebook.Element("userid") = "whatever" select phonebook; Any tips on how to best implement?

• 'Forward-Compatible' Program Design

  The majority of my questions I've asked here so far on StackOverflow have been how to implement individual concepts and techniques towards developing a software-based NES clone via the XNA environment. The small samples that I've thrown together on my PC work relatively great and everything. Except I hit a brick wall. How do I merge all of these samples together. Having proof-of-concept is amazing, except when you need it to go beyond just that. I now have samples strewn about that I'm trying to merge, some of them incomplete. And now I'm stuck with the chicken-and-the-egg situation of where I would like to incorporate these samples together, to make sure they work, but I cannot without test data. And I don't have tools to create test data, because they'd need to be based off of the individual pieces that need to be put together. In my mind, I'm having nightmares with circular reference. For my sample data, I am hoping to save it in XML and write a specification - and then make sample data by hand - but I'm too paranoid of manually creating an XML file full of incorrect data and blaming it on my code, or vice-versa. It doesn't help that the end-result of my work is graphic-oriented, which makes it interseting how a graphic on the screen can be visualized in XML Nodes. I guess, my question is this: What design patterns and disciplines exist in the coding world that address this type of concern? I've always relied on brute-force coding and restarting a project with a whole new code base in attempts to further along my goals, but I doubt that would be the best way to do so. Within my college career, the majority of my programming was to work on simple projects that came out of a book, or with a given correct data set and a verifyable result. I don't have that, as my own design documents that I am going by could be terribly wrong.

  I'm having major difficulties to start off with NHiberante. Main problems: Where my hbm.xml files should reside? I create a Mappings folder but I received an error "Could not find xxx.hbm.xml file." I tried to load the specific class through the dialect cf.AddClass(typeof(xxx)); but it still gives me the same error (the files are marked as embebed resources. Also I'm having major problems in connection to it. I stopped trying to use the cfg xml file and tried a more direct approach with a library I have here. • How to make a request from an android app that can enter a Spring Security secured webservice method

  I have a Spring Security (form based authentication) web app running CXF JAX-RS webservices and I am trying to connect to this webservice from an Android app that can be authenticated on a per user basis. Currently, when I add an @Secured annotation to my webservice method all requests to this method are denied. I have tried to pass in credentials of a valid user/password (that currently exists in the Spring Security based web app and can log in to the web app successfully) from the android call but the request still fails to enter this method when the @Secured annotation is present. The SecurityContext parameter returns null when calling getUserPrincipal(). How can I make a request from an android app that can enter a Spring Security secured webservice method? • Convert InputStream to String with encoding given in stream data

  Hi, My input is a InputStream which contains an XML document. Encoding used in XML is unknown and it is defined in the first line of XML document. From this InputStream, I want to have all document in a String. To do this, I use a BufferedInputStream to mark the beginning of the file and start reading first line. I read this first line to get encoding and then I use an InputStreamReader to generate a String with the correct encoding. It seems that it is not the best way to achieve this goal because it produces an OutOfMemory error. • No route matches when trying to edit

  Here's the scoop: I've created a test app that allows users to create ideas and then add "bubbles" to these ideas. Currently, a bubble is just text. I've successfully linked bubbles to ideas. Furthermore, when a user goes to view an idea it lists all of the bubbles attached to that idea. The user can even delete the bubble for any given idea. My problem lies in editing bubbles. When a user views an idea, he sees the idea's content as well as any bubbles for that idea. As a result, I've set all my bubble controls (editing and deleting) inside the ideas "show" view. My code for editing a bubble for an idea is <%= link_to 'Edit Bubble', edit_idea_bubble_path %>. I ran rake routes to find the correct path for editing bubbles and that is what was listed. Here's my error: No route matches {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"bubbles"} In my bubbles controller I have: def edit @idea = Idea.find(params[:idea_id]) @bubble = @idea.bubbles.find(params[:id]) end def update @idea = Idea.find(params[:idea_id]) @bubble = @idea.bubbles.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| if @bubble.update_attributes(params[:bubble]) format.html { redirect_to(@bubble, :notice => 'Bubble was successfully updated.') } format.xml { head :ok } else format.html { render :action => "Edit" } format.xml { render :xml => @bubble.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end To go a step further, I have the following in my routes.rb file resources :ideas do resources :bubbles end So far everything seems to function except when I try to edit a bubble. • Is it right that Strophe.addHandler reads only first node from response?

• Deploy GWT Application to Google App Engine using NetBeans

  Hello, I try to deploy a GWT application, to Google App Engine using NetBeans. I had successful run GWT sample http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/create.html using Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, by 1) Copy generated source code from StockWatcher to C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\src\java\com\google\ 2) Modify C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\nbproject\gwt.properties gwt.module=com.google.gwt.stockwatcher.StockWatcher 3) Select Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, and run. All works fine! Now, I try to select Google App Engine server, and run. However, I get the error "There is no appengine web project opened!" I check... There is file called C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\war\WEB-INF\appengine-web.xml with content <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <appengine-web-app xmlns="http://appengine.google.com/ns/1.0" xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance' xsi:schemaLocation='http://kenai.com/projects/nbappengine/downloads/download/schema/appengine-web.xsd appengine-web.xsd'> <application>StockWatcherNetbeans</application> <version>1</version> </appengine-web-app> I am using NetBeans 6.7.1 GWT4NB (GWT Plugin for NetBeans) 2.6.12 Google App Engine plugin for NetBeans from http://kenai.com/downloads/nbappengine/1.0_NetBeans671/updates.xml Anything I had missed out? Opera is good enough, though it prints the main document instead of just the object. IE7 gives the following error details: Line: 57 Char: 1 Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object Line 57 is where the button's "input" tag starts in the HTML source. Thanks to the alert('contentWindow is null') call in the JS function, I know that the object I'm getting in IE has no contentWindow property. I have tried changing the object tag to an iframe tag. This changes the JS behaviour, but causes other issues such as the height attribute being ignored and the content not displaying. Sticking with an object tag, how can I get this Object's window in IE7?

  Hello I have a VS2008 windows application project (WinProject) which is deployed by the installation project (InstallationProject) which inturn has the property RemovePreviousVersions set to True. In my app for each configuration made by an user, the winapp writes the configurations into an xml file (stored in C:\Application Name\Files\ folder) which also includes the path where the config was saved. Now when I build new versions of the installer,This folder and the files are overwritten since i the flag AlwaysCreate is set to True. My question is how can i avoid these older files from being overwritten and at the same time shall get the updated file from the installer. Ex: Contents of the file <PriceFiles> <Name>arr</Name> <Path>C:\NewTool\arr.xml</Path> <UserDefined>true</UserDefined> </PriceFiles> <ReferenceProjects> <Name>studio</Name> <Path>C:\NewTool\ReferenceProjects\6cd3a9e9-ad65-475e-953b-128915a496cd.xml</Path> <UserDefined>true</UserDefined> <CreatedBy>Admin</CreatedBy> </ReferenceProjects> Thanks in advance

In the development, QA, UAT and PRD environments everything works fine. But on another machine I now need to install the web service on (which I cannot debug, unfortunately), the directory string is 'C:Files'. Just to be sure I double checked the .NET version on the different machines (I thought perhaps the usage of @ before a string was version-dependent); all machines use 2.0.50727. • Ant telnet is hanging on a simple task

When I run ant (version 1.8, in bash) (I have downloaded and copied over the jars for commons-net-2.0 and jakarta-oro-2.0.8 already), this is the output I get: Buildfile: /home/sagar/build.xml telnet: and then it just sits there. When I do a "who" on my server, I can see "System" waiting on login. But there is no progress after this. I can telnet into the server using normal telnet means (putty, bash, etc). I even tried the full telnet command instead of read/write: <telnet server="10.1.1.1" userid="root" password="root"> Any help is much appreciated! Note: JRE 1.5, Ant 1.8, commons-net version 2.0, jakarta version 2.0.8
