  • Best Way to Generate Unique and consecutives numbers in Oracle

    I need to generate unique and consecutive numbers (for use on an invoice), in a fast and reliable way. currently use a Oracle sequence, but in some cases generated numbers are not consecutive because of exceptions that may occur. I thought a couple of solutions to manage this problem, but neither of they convincing me. What solution do you recommend? Use a select max () SELECT MAX (NVL (doc_num, 0)) +1 FROM invoices Use a table to store the last number generated for the invoice. UPDATE docs_numbers SET last_invoice = last_invoice + 1 Another Solution?

    Hello I want to generate a Unique Random number with out using the follow statement : Convert(int, (CHECKSUM(NEWID()))*100000) AS [ITEM] Cause when I use joins clauses on "from" it generates double registers by using NEWID() Im using SQL Server 2000 *PD : When I use Rand() it probably repeat on probability 1 of 100000000 but this is so criticall so it have to be 0% of probability to repeat a random value generated My Query with NewID() and result on SELECT statement is duplicated (x2) My QUery without NewID() and using Rand() on SELECT statement is single (x1) but the probability of repeat the random value generated is uncertainly but exists!   • ASP.NET MVC2 and Browser Caching

    Hi I have a web application that fetches a lot of content via ajax. For example when a user edits some data, the browser will send the changes using an ajax post and then do an ajax get to get fresh content and replace an existing div on the page with that content. This was working just find with MVC1, but in MVC2 I would get inconsistent results. I've found that MVC1 by default included an Expires item in the response headers set to the current time, but in MVC2 the Expires header is missing. This is a problem with some browsers (IE8) actually using the cached version of the ajax get instead of the fresh version. To deal with the problem I created a simple ActionFilterAttribute that sets the reponse cache to NoCache (see below), which works, but it seems kind of sillly to decorate every controller with this attribute. Is there a global way to set this for every controller? Is this a bug in MVC2 and it really should be setting the expires on every ActionResult/view/page? Don't most MVC programs deal with data entry where stale data is a very bad thing?   • Passing IDisposable objects through constructor chains

    I've got a small hierarchy of objects that in general gets constructed from data in a Stream, but for some particular subclasses, can be synthesized from a simpler argument list. In chaining the constructors from the subclasses, I'm running into an issue with ensuring the disposal of the synthesized stream that the base class constructor needs. Its not escaped me that the use of IDisposable objects this way is possibly just dirty pool (plz advise?) for reasons I've not considered, but, this issue aside, it seems fairly straightforward (and good encapsulation). It's not in scope, so I can't explicitly Dispose () it later in the constructor, and adding a using statement in GenerateRaw () is self-defeating since I need the stream returned. Is there a better way to do this? Preemptive strikes: yes, the properties calculated in the Node constructor should be part of the base class, and should not be calculated by (or accessible in) the subclasses I won't require that a stream be passed into CompositeNode (its format should be irrelevant to the caller) The previous iteration had the value calculation in the base class as a separate protected method, which I then just called at the end of each subtype constructor, moved the body of GenerateRaw () into a using statement in the body of the CompositeNode constructor. But the repetition of requiring that call for each constructor and not being able to guarantee that it be run for every subtype ever (a Node is not a Node, semantically, without these properties initialized) gave me heebie-jeebies far worse than the (potential) resource leak here does.

  • dvi generation: no bounding box

    Hi, I wrote a research paper in latex and generated pdf using kile. It worked perfectly well. Now conference people are asking for dvi file also. But Kile's quick build process does not give a dvi file, but its 'Latex' compile process does. So I tried to compile the document, and it gave errors for includegraphics saying figure not found. When I append the correct extensions to the image names, that errors stopped coming but new errors came "bounding box is missing". I added bounding box values and now DVI file is being generated. My questions are: I have tried giving very high and low bounding box values but there is no deformation in the PDF. Why? Can I generate a DVI without giving bounding box values? I can't figure out where proper resizing takes place inside the Accordion control. Does anyone have an idea?

    I know that with Network Load Balancing and Failover Clusteringwe can make passive services highly available. But what about active apps? Example: One of my apps retrieves some content from a external resource in a fixed interval. I have imagined the following scenarios: Run it in a single machine. Problem: if this instance falls, the content won't be retrieved Run it in each machine of the cluster. Problem: the content will be retrieved multiple times Have it in each machine of the cluster, but run it only in one of them. Each instance will have to check some sort of common resource to decide whether it its turn to do the task or not. When I was thinking about the solution #3 I have wondered what should be the common resource. I have thought of creating a table in the database, where we could use it to get a global lock. Is this the best solution? How does people usually do this? By the way it's a C# .NET WCF app running on Windows Server 2008

  • Generating code for service proxies

    I'm trying to generate some additional code base on the auto-generated webservice proxies in my VS2010 solution, I'm using a T4 template to do so. The problem is, automatically generated proxies are added in "Service Reference" folder but ProjectItems (files) are hidden by default and the following code does not find them in the project structure: var sr = GetProjectItem(project, "Service References"); if(sr != null) { foreach(ProjectItem item in sr.ProjectItems) { foreach(var file in item.ProjectItems) { //Services.Add(new ServiceInfo { Name = file.Name }); } } } The above code runs and although service reference is found, and there are ProjectItems under that node (named by the webservice reference name), under object under that node is of type System.__ComObject and I'm not sure how to progress. Any help is appreciated.

  • Visual Studio macro to navigate to T4MVC link

    I use T4MVC and I'm happy with it and want to keep it - it keeps down run time defects. Unfortunately, it makes it harder to navigate to views and content (a.k.a. Views and Links in T4MVC) though. Even using Resharper, I can't navigate to the referenced item: T4MVC and Resharper Navigation Can I get a hand building a macro to do this? Never having built a VS IDE macro before, I don't have a grasp on how to get at some things, like the internal results of the "Go To Definition" process, if that's even possible. If you aren't familiar with T4MVC, here's generally what the macro might do to help: Given the token: Links.Content.Scripts.jQuery_js in the file MyView.cshtml, '(F12) Go To Definition'. This behaves properly. Having arrived at the the related assignment: public readonly string jQuery_js = "~/Content/Scripts/jQuery.js"; in a file generated by T4MVC (which is very nice, thank you David, but we really don't ever need to see), capture the string assigned and close the file. Navigate in Solution Explorer to the PhysicalPath represented by the captured string. This process would also work for views/layouts/master-pages/partials, etc. If you provide a macro or link to a macro to do this, or have another solution, wonderful. Otherwise, hints on how to do step 3 simply in a VS macro would be especially appreciated and receive upvote from me. I'd post the macro back here as an answer when done. Thanks!

  • Jquery problem - cant expand the row above in a table

    Hi People, What I cant figure out is how I would toggle a row in a table using the one below it. So say I have a table with 2 rows the first contains content and the one below contains a button, when the page loads the content row is hidden and when you click the button it toggles the content row on and off.   • Basic question about request queues in IIS / ASP.Net

    I have an ASP.Net application running under IIS 6. A simple page has two radio buttons and a submit button. If I select radio button "A" and submit the page, a lengthy PDF file is generated, which takes about a minute to build. If I select radio button "B", a small PDF is generated. (In both cases the PDF is written out to the Response object and it opens in my browser.) If I select radio button "A" and submit, then hit the red X in my browser to stop the current request, then select radio button "B" and resubmit, the page still takes a long time to process my request. No doubt my first request is still being processed on the server, but I was wondering how IIS and/or ASP.Net are queuing my requests so that fair server use is guaranteed among all users. Am I roughly correct in assuming something like this happens, and if so, how is it done?

  • where should I put the EF entity and data annotations in asp.net mvc + entity framework project

    So I have a DataEntity class generated by EntityFramework4 for my sqlexpress08 database. This data context is exposed via a WCF Data Service/Odata to silverlight and win forms clients. Should the data entities + edmx file (generated by EF4) go in a separate class library? The problem here then is I would specify data annotations for a few entities and then some of them would require specific MVC attributes (like CompareAttribute) so the class library would also reference mvc dlls. There also happen to be entity users which will be encapsulated or wrapped into an IIdentity in the website. So its pretty tied to the mvc website. Or Should it maybe go in a Base folder in the mvc project itself? Mostly the website is data driven around the database, like approve users, change global settings etc. The real business happens in the silverlight and win forms apps. Im using mvc3 rc2 with Razor.   • Trying to find a PHP5 API-based embeddable CMS

    I've been making the rounds for a CMS that I can use as an API, in a sort of "embedded" mode. I mean by this that I don't want the CMS to do any logic or presentation. I want it to be used as an API, which I can then use within an existing site. I don't want to be tied to the architecture of the CMS. A good example of this is NC-CMS (http://www.nconsulting.ca/nc-cms/). All it needs is an include at the top, then wherever editable content is desired it's only a function call with a unique label. It's also perfect in the sense that it allows to differentiate between small strings (like titles, labels) and texts (which require a rich-text editor). It's the only CMS I found that fits this description, but it is a little too light as it does not handle site structure. I need to be able to allow my client to add pages, choosing an existing template for the layout. A minimal back-end is required. Wordpress also fits some requirements in that it handles only content editing and allows freedom for the themes by letting them call the content where and how they want it. But it is article-based and backwards, in that it embeds sites (as themes) within its structure, rather than being embeddable in sites like NC. It's funny how checking out all the CMS out there, almost all of them claim that most CMS are not self-sufficient, that they do not handle application logic, while (almost) every single on I found with only one exception do so. Many are mostly article-based blog engines, which does not fit my need. I would appreciate any CMS that fits the general description.

  • Filtering custom fields on wordpress admin page

    I'm currently working on a wordpress 2.9.2 plugin (my first) that creates additional custom fields that will later be read from the template. The plugin adds an additional meta box to the "Edit Post" screen which is responsible for manipulating these values. My problem is that the custom fields generated by the plugin also show up in the "Custom Fields" box. Ideally I would like for the custom fields generated by the plugin to be managed separately from any other custom fields for that same post/page. Is there a way that I can filter fields specific to my plugin to prevent them from being displayed in the "Custom Fields" box? I have yet to locate any action or filter that will let me capture and manipulate those values before they are rendered on "Edit Post".

  • SubSonic 3.0 - Save method with all columns as parameters?

    Hi, Just getting started with SubSonic. I'm using the Repository pattern, so my domain objects are totally seperate, and SubSonic-generated classes are used only in my data access layer. I'm wondering if a template exists that will give me a Save method (Insert/Update) that requires all table column values as parameters. My thinking is that since I need to do the mapping work manually, at least if my database schema changes (ie, a new column is added), I won't forget to add a corresponding mapping, since the auto-generated method signature would change and the compiler would catch it. I've considered messing with the T4 templates to add this feature, but thought I'd check if this already exists somewhere before I head down that path. Thanks in advance.

  • How can I reorder an mbox file chronologically?

    Hello, I have a single spool mbox file that was created with evolution, containing a selection of emails that I wish to print. My problem is that the emails are not placed into the mbox file chronologically. I would like to know the best way to place order the files from first to last using bash, perl or python. I would like to oder by received for files addressed to me, and sent for files sent by me. Would it perhaps be easier to use maildir files or such?   • JQuery UI Tabs - replace tab and contents

    What is the best way to replace the currently selected tab and its contents? The content is dynamically generated with jquery, not loaded via a URL. I need to do this from outside of any tab code or tab event handler (show, add, etc.). There is a link elsewhere on the page that should do the following when clicked: Change the tab's title Change the tab's className Clear out all elements of the tabcontent div Change the tabcontent div's className Generate new content inside the tabcontent div Note that the only reference this link's click() handler has is to the JQuery tabs object ($Tabs). I can get the selected tab with $Tabs.tabs('option','selected'). But how can I get a reference to the selected tab's tab and panel? Inside of a jquery tab handler (show, add, etc.), I have access to ui.tab and ui.panel, but is there a way to get them from a tabs option? Would it be better to simply remove the currently selected tab and then add a new tab in the same index location? I'd have to put the code to generate the tab content into the add() handler then I suppose.

    Is that possible to define a function without referencing to self this way? def myfunc(var_a,var_b) But so that it could also get sender data, like if I defined it like this: def myfunc(self, var_a,var_b) That self is always the same so it looks a little redundant here always to run a function this way: myfunc(self,'data_a','data_b'). Then I would like to get its data in the function like this sender.fields. UPDATE: Here is some code to understand better what I mean. The class below is used to show a page based on Jinja2 templates engine for users to sign up. class SignupHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self, *args, **kwargs): utils.render_template(self, 'signup.html') And this code below is a render_template that I created as wrapper to Jinja2 functions to use it more conveniently in my project: def render_template(response, template_name, vars=dict(), is_string=False): template_dirs = [os.path.join(root(), 'templates')] logging.info(template_dirs[0]) env = Environment(loader=FileSystemLoader(template_dirs)) try: template = env.get_template(template_name) except TemplateNotFound: raise TemplateNotFound(template_name) content = template.render(vars) if is_string: return content else: response.response.out.write(content) As I use this function render_template very often in my project and usually the same way, just with different template files, I wondered if there was a way to get rid of having to call it like I do it now, with self as the first argument but still having access to that object.
