  • PHP Convert variable names to lowercase?

    I have an api listener script which takes in get parameters. But I seem to be having issues when users tend to pass mixed case variable names on the parameters. For example: http://mylistenerurl.com?paramName1=Hello&paramname2=World I need my listener to be flixible in such a way that the variable names will be interpreted case-insensitively or rather still all in lower case like after I process the query string on some function, they are all returned as lower-cased variables: extract(someFunction($_GET)); process($paramname1, $paramname2); Can anybody shed some light on this? *much appreciated. thanks!

    This is probably very easy to do but for some reason I can't seem to figure this out. Let's say I have code like this: $elements = array('a', 'b', 'c', 'd'); $myValues = array( 'values' => array( 'a' => array( 'xx' => 3, 'yy' => '' ), 'b' => array( 'xx' => '', 'yy' => '' ), 'c' => array( 'xx' => 8.4, 'yy' => '' ), 'd' => array( 'xx' => 18.4, 'yy' => '' ) ) ); foreach($elements as $elem) { if($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] != '') { if($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] < 6) { $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] = 'less than 6'; } elseif($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] >= 6 && $myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] < 15) { $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] = 'between 6 and 16'; } else { $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] = 'greater than 15'; } testFunc($myValues['values'][$elem]['xx']); // This is how I would call my function once I replace the code above } } As you can see here what I'm trying to do is to change the value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] based on some conditions. What I want to do is to replace the if elseif else section of codes by a function that performs the same action. I tried something like: function testFunc($xx) { if($xx < 6) { $yy = 'less than 6'; } elseif($xx >= 6 && $xx < 15) { $yy = 'between 6 and 16'; } else { $yy = 'greater than 15'; } return $yy; } But obviously this won't work because I'm not changing the value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy'] inside my function. NOTE I really want to pass ONLY the value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['xx'] inside my function and return the changed value of $myValues['values'][$elem]['yy']. Can anybody help me with this? Then the $id also get the value of log.time, log.date, logout.time, and logout.date. I already try using UNION but nothing happens.

    I am trying to add a .html suffix at the end of all strings supplied by the user before it is entered into the database. Here's my code so far: strtolower(str_replace(" ", "_", $postTitle)); The above takes the title of the post the user it trying to make, turns it to lower case, replaces all white spaces with underscores and makes it ready to be entered into a database column called post_url. I just need it to do one more thing and that's to add a .html at the end of each post url. What is the function to do this?

  • how to handle exceptions/errors in php?

    when using 3rd part libraries they tend to throw exceptions to the browser and hence kill the script. eg. if im using doctrine and insert a duplicate record to the database it will throw an exception. i wonder, what is best practice for handling these exceptions. should i always do a try...catch? but doesn't that mean that i will have try...catch all over the script and for every single function/class i use? Or is it just for debugging? i don't quite get the picture. Cause if a record already exists in a database, i want to tell the user "Record already exists". And if i code a library or a function, should i always use "throw new Expcetion($message, $code)" when i want to create an error? Please shed a light on how one should create/handle exceptions/errors. Thanks

  • HTML, PHP No data in drop down box

    Hey, I am trying to figure out why a website's drop down box will not show any options. The data file for this drop down box comes from a microsoft access .mde file. The file is present and after the last update was working fine. Some changes happened to the site, i.e. text got added along with some photos. Im not saying this was when the drop down box went bad, but when it was discovered these were the only changes made. The data file seems fine as it is worked with everyday. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to begin looking for the bug? Right now the script currently: Saves Id, Name, Url with a "|" delimiter to a text file Db like: 1|John|http://www.john.com| 2|Mark|http://www.mark.com| 3|Fred|http://www.fred.com| But I'm having a hard time trying to make the "UPDATE" and "DELETE" buttons work.   • S3 file Uploading from Mac app though PHP?

    I have asked this question before, but it was deleted due too little information. I'll try to be more concrete this time. I have an Objective-C mac application, which should allow users to upload files to S3-storage. The s3 storage is mine, the users don't have an Amazon account. Until now, the files were uploaded directly to the amazon servers. After thinking some more about it, it wasn't really a great concept, regarding security and flexibility. I want to add a server in between. The user should authenticate with my server, the server would open a session if the authentication was successful, and the file-sharing could begin. Now my question. I want to upload the files to S3. One option would be to make a POST-request and wait until the server would receive the file. Problems here are, that there would be a delay, when the file is being uploaded from my server to the S3 servers, and it would double the uploading time. Best would be, if I could validate the request, and then redirecting it, so the client uploads it directly to the s3-storage. Not sure if this is possible somehow. Uploading directly to S3 doesn't seem to be very smart. After looking into other apps like Droplr and Dropmark, it looks like they don't do this. Btw. I did this using Little Snitch. They have their api on their own web-server, and that's it. Could someone clear things up for me? EDIT How should I transmit my files to S3? Is there a way to "forward" it, or do I have to upload it to my server and then upload it from there to S3? Like I said, other apps can do this efficiently and without the need of communicating with S3 directly.

So far so good but when I try and run this code I keep getting: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''pages' ORDER BY 'pages'.'pageOrder' ASC LIMIT 0 , 30' at line 1 By the error it looks like a problem with the order by section and indeed it works without it... $sql = "SELECT * FROM 'pages' ORDER BY 'pages'.'pageOrder' ASC LIMIT 0 , 30"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); Now I know there is nothing wrong with the code because originally I wrote my own SQL but then after it failed I robbed some from phpmyadmin and it still gives the error but it works in phpmyadmin... I'm really at my wits end with this, help is very much appreciated thank you...
