  • Should I be using callbacks or should I override attributes?

    - by ryeguy
    What is the more "rails-like"? If I want to modify a model's property when it's set, should I do this: def url=(url) #remove session id self[:url] = url.split('?s=')[0] end or this? before_save do |record| #remove session id record.url = record.url.split('?s=')[0] end Is there any benefit for doing it one way or the other? If so, why? If not, which one is generally more common?

  • How do CUDA devices handle immediate operands?

    - by Jack Lloyd
    Compiling CUDA code with immediate (integer) operands, are they held in the instruction stream, or are they placed into memory? Specifically I'm thinking about 24 or 32 bit unsigned integer operands. I haven't been able to find information about this in any of the CUDA documentation I've examined so far. So references to any documents on specific uarch details like this would be perfect, as I don't currently have a good model for how CUDA works at this level.

  • How can I detect if an iPhone OS device has a proximity sensor?

    - by Batgar
    The docs related to proximity sensing state that if the proximity sensing APIs are used on a device without a proximity sensor (i.e. iPod touch, iPad) they will just return as if the proximity sensor has fired. Aside from checking the [[UIDevice currentDevice].model] string and parsing for "iPhone", "iPod touch", or "iPad" is there a slicker way to determine if a proximity sensor is on a given device?

  • Need to place a floating modeless form over excel main window (quasi-task pane)

    - by code4life
    Hi I need to emulate a task pane by floating a modeless form over the Excel main window. The reason for this requirement is that I need to have taskpane features for my Excel 2003 add-in, but cannot use the document-centric model. Can anyone suggest what would be the best way to do this? The modeless form would need to detect the main window resize event and resize itself accordingly, and also need to always position itself at the bottom of the window (kind of like a docking pane).

  • Ruby Rails _without_ ActiveRecord

    - by devlearn
    Hello, I'm looking for any pointers on how to write a rails web app without ActiveRecord. A doc or an example of a (not too complex) web app using storage backends other than a relational database would be greatly appreciated. It's not clear on what should be implemented in the model classes in order to make the rails app work without the ActiveRecord layer. Thanks,

  • Nesting forms in CakePHP

    - by Erik
    I am wondering if there's a way in CakePHP to nest multiple models in a form? What I'm trying to accomplish is to make a form for creating Posts that will also contain fields for adding Images (separate model) that will automatically be connected to the created post. Something similar to Ruby on Rails ** accept_nested_attributes_for**.

  • How can I override the attribute assignment in an active record object?

    - by ryeguy
    I know you can do this with virtual attributes, but what if the column actually exists? For example, my model has a raw_topic column. When raw_topic is set, I want artist and song_title to be set based off of raw_topic's contents. Ideally, I'd like to override the raw_topic= method, but rails doesn't seem to like that. What's the proper way of doing this? Is a callback the only way?

    I have a drop down list of Type in my Products model. I want to be able to search in the Products index.html.erb so a user selects a type from a drop down list, clicks search and all the products matching that type are returned. I can get normal search methods working where the user enters in their search in a text box but I cannot get it working when they just select from a dropdown. Can anyone help?

    Hi, does anyone have any idea how I can get started building a search engine for my asp.net mvc site using entity framework. I plan to build something like: http://www.carsguide.com.au/search/?N=4294962119++492&type=cars there on the left there is a refine search option panel. What's the best approach to design a model for the UI and optimized query with entity framework.

  • NHibernate Many-to-Many Mapping not working

    - by ClutchDude
    I have a Nhibernate mapping file for a simple user/role mapping. Here are the mapping files: Users.hbm.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="Sample.Persistence" namespace="Sample.Persistence.Model"> <class name="User" table="Users"> <id name="UserKey"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <property name="UserName" column="UserName" type="String" /> <property name="Password" column="Password" type="Byte[]" /> <property name="FirstName" column="FirstName" type="String" /> <property name="LastName" column="LastName" type="String" /> <property name="Email" column="Email" type="String" /> <property name="Active" column="Active" type="Boolean" /> <property name="Locked" column="Locked" type="Boolean" /> <property name="LoginFailures" column="LoginFailures" type="int" /> <property name="LockoutDate" column="LockoutDate" type="DateTime" generated="insert" /> <property name="Expired" column="Expired" type="Boolean" generated="insert"/> <set name="Roles" table="UsersRolesBridge" lazy="false"> <key column="UserKey" /> <many-to-many class="Role" not-found="exception" column="RoleKey" /> </set> </class> </hibernate-mapping> Role.hbm.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="Sample.Persistence" namespace="Sample.Persistence.Model"> <class name="Role" table="Roles"> <id name="RoleKey"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <property name="Name" column="Name" type="String" /> <set name="Users" inverse="true" atable="UsersRolesBridge" lazy="false" > <key column="RoleKey" /> <many-to-many class="User" column="UserKey" /> </set> </class> </hibernate-mapping> I am able to retrieve roles for each user via NHibernate but when I go to save a new object, the roles are not saved in the Bridge table. The user is created and insert with no issues. I've checked that the Role collection, a field on the user, is being populated with the proper rolekey before the Session.Save() is called. There is no exception thrown as well.

  • How to give the First image in a gallery a different class than the rest of the images - Carrierwave

    - by ChrisBedoya
    I have a model called "Photo" that belongs to a model called "Shoe". I using Carrierwave to upload multiple images. index.html.erb <% shoes.each do |shoe| %> <div class="shoe"> <div class="gallery"> <% shoe.photos.each do |photo| %> <%= link_to image_tag(photo.photo_file.url(:thumb).to_s), photo.photo_file.url.to_s, :class => 'fancybox', :rel => 'gallery' %> <% end %> </div> </div> <% end %> Outputs this: <div class="shoe"> <div class="gallery"> <a class="fancybox" href="../nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg" rel="gallery"> <img src="../thumb_nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg"> </a> <a class="fancybox" href="../nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg" rel="gallery"> <img src="../thumb_nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg"> </a> <a class="fancybox" href="../nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg" rel="gallery"> <img src="../thumb_nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg"> </a> </div> </div> But I want the first image of each gallery to be able to have its own class and the rest of the images to have their own class. Something like this: <a class="firstclass" href="../nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg" rel="gallery"> <img src="../thumb_nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg"> </a> <a class="fancybox" href="../nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg" rel="gallery"> <img src="../thumb_nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg"> </a> <a class="fancybox" href="../nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg" rel="gallery"> <img src="../thumb_nike-kd-6-meteorology-2.jpg"> </a> How can I do this? Also I want each gallery to have its own unique id but when I try to add this: :rel => 'gallery<%= shoe.id %>' I get a Syntax error. Thanks.

    - by Matthieu
    For a PHP application with a complex domain model, I don't want to use the Active Record pattern, I need instead the Data Mapper pattern (as presented in Zend Framework).
