  • Question about joins and table with Millions of rows

    - by xRobot
    I have to create 2 tables: Magazine ( 10 millions of rows with these columns: id, title, genres, printing, price ) Author ( 180 millions of rows with these columns: id, name, magazine_id ) . Every author can write on ONLY ONE magazine and every magazine has more authors. So if I want to know all authors of Motors Magazine, I have to use this query: SELECT * FROM Author, Magazine WHERE ( Author.id = Magazine.id ) AND ( genres = 'Motors' ) The same applies to Printing and Price column. To avoid these joins with tables of millions of rows, I thought to use this tables: Magazine ( 10 millions of rows with this column: id, title, genres, printing, price ) Author ( 180 millions of rows with this column: id, name, magazine_id, genres, printing, price ) . and this query: SELECT * FROM Author WHERE genres = 'Motors' Is it a good approach ? I can use Postgresql or Mysql.

  • Meaning of tA tC and tP

    - by Greg Wiley
    If this is a duplicate I appoligize, but looking for two-letter strings is quite hard in any search. I'm looking for the meaning of tA tC and tP in the context of a mysql query. And in the spirit of "teaching a man how to fish" it would be great if you could point me in the right direction of where to find this info in the future. Edit: The Query $wpdb->get_row($wpdb->prepare("SELECT tA.* FROM ".AMYLITE_ADS." tA, ".AMYLITE_ADS_CAMPAIGNS." tC, ".AMYLITE_PACKAGES." tP WHERE tA.id=tC.ad_id AND tC.campaign_id=tP.campaign_id AND tP.zone_id=%d AND tP.date_end>CURDATE() GROUP BY tA.id ORDER BY RAND()", $zone->id));

  • Read binary data from a MDB-file running under LAMP

    - by BusterX
    I need to be able to connect to an MDB-file in a LAMP-environment (running on Linux) and ultimately insert converted data into a Mysql db. The data I need to access is stored as a BLOB (Long Binary Data according to Access) in the MDB file. I have not yet been able to actually have a look at the data but I have been told that the BLOB consists of byte strings. Something along the lines of: 0x1c 0x10 0x27 0x00 0x00 I need to parse the byte strings and convert these to a format that is human readable. I do have access to the documentation that explains the various byte strings. So this is really two questions: How do a get access to the MDB file via PHP* (running under LAMP) and read the BLOB (I do not have access to a Windows-platform)? What would be the best way to parse the binary data (in PHP*) once I am able to connect to the MDB-file? *Or are there other methods/languages that are more appropriate?

  • Should I stick only to AWS RDS Automated Backup or DB Snapshots?

    - by James Wise
    I am using AWS RDS for MySQL. With it comes on backup, I understand that amazon provides two types of backup - automated backup and database (DB) snapshot. The difference is explain in here - http://aws.amazon.com/rds/faqs/#23. However, I am still confuse if should I stick to automated backup only or both automated and manual (db snapshots). What do you think guys? What's the setup of your own? I heard to others that automated backup is not reliable due to some unrecoverable database when the DB instance is crashed so the DB snapshots are the way to rescue you. If I will do daily DB snapshots as similar settings to automated backup, I have gonna pay much bunch of bucks. Hope anyone could enlighten me or advise me the right set up. Thanks. James

  • tricky SQL when joining

    - by Erik
    I've two tables, shows and objects. I want to print out the latest objects, and the shownames for them. Right now I'm doing it this way: SELECT MAX(objects.id) as max_id, shows.name, shows.id FROM shows, objects WHERE shows.id = objects.showId GROUP BY shows.name however, if I also want to fetch the episode of the object I can't put it like SELECT object.episode [...], because then wont automatically select the object which is MAX(objects.id), so my question is how to do that? If you haven't already figured out my tables they're like this: Shows id name and also: Objects id name episode season showId Using MySQL. Thanks!

  • How to approach this SQL query

    - by Kim
    I have data related as follows: A table of Houses A table of Boxes (with an FK back into Houses) A table of Things_in_boxes (with an FK back to Boxes) A table of Owners (with an FK back into Houses) In a nutshell, a House has many Boxes, and each Box has many Things in it. In addition, each House has many Owners. If I know two Owners (say Peter and Paul), how can I list all the Things that are in the Boxes that are in the Houses owned by these guys? • C# mysqlreader on same connection error

    - by dominiquel
    Hi, I must find a way to do this in C#, if possible... I must loop on my folder list (mysql table), and for each folder I instanciate I must do another query, but when I do this it says : "There is already an open DataReader associated with this Connection" and I am inside a mysqlreader loop already. Note that I have oversimplified the code just to show you, the fact is that I must do queries inside a mysqlreader loop, and it looks to be impossible as they are on the same connection? MySqlConnection cnx = new MySqlConnection(connexionString); cnx.Open(); MySqlCommand command= new MySqlCommand("SELECT * FROM folder WHERE folder_id = " + id, cnx); MySqlDataReader reader= commande.ExecuteReader(); while (reader.Read()) { this.folderList[this.folderList.Length] = new CFolder(reader.GetInt32"folder_id"), cnx); } reader.Close(); cnx.Close();

  • Advanced search functionality

    - by Chris
    I have a website with a jQuery based autocomplete search functionality which works great. Currently though I have just one search box for all categories, what I want is for someone to be able to type in, say for example, dorian gray dvd (in any order) which will search for dorian gray within the dvd category. What this will require then is a bit of magic on the server side to figure out if any of the words are category keywords, and then limit the search by that. What is the best (and quickest) way to do this in PHP / MySQL? I currently have a few trains of thought Search the category table for matches and perhaps order the results by that. Or split up the search terms into an array and separately search the categories for that for a match. Another thought I just had is to concat the category title to the dvd title in the database and match against that, or something similar... but this sounds computationally expensive? Any advice?

  • Multiple LIKE in SQL

    - by ninumedia
    I wanted to search through multiple rows and obtain the row that contains a particular item. The table in mySQL is setup so each id has a unique list (comma-delimited) of values per row. Ex: id | order 1 | 1,3,8,19,34,2,38 2 | 4,7,2,190,38 Now if I wanted to pull the row that contained just the number 19 how would I go about doing this? The possibilities I could figure in the list with a LIKE condition would be: 19, ,19 ,19, I tried the following and I cannot obtain any results, Thank you for your help! SELECT * FROM categories WHERE order LIKE '19,%' OR '%,19%' OR '%,19%' LIMIT 0 , 30

  • INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in PHP?

    - by blerh
    I want to store IP addresses in my database, but I also need to use them throughout my application. I read about using INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in my MySQL queries to get a 32-bit unsigned integer out of an IP address, which is exactly what I want as it will make searching through the database faster than using char(15). The thing is, I can't find a function that does the same sort of thing in PHP. The only thing I came across is: http://php.net/manual/en/function.ip2long.php So I tested it: $ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; echo ip2long($ip); And it outputs nothing. In the example they gave it seems to work, but then again I'm not exactly sure if ip2long() does the same thing as INET_ATON(). Does someone know a PHP function that will do this? Or even a completely new solution to storing an IP address in a database? Thanks.

  • Why is it that I cannot insert this into Django correctly?

    - by alex
    new_thing = MyTable(last_updated=datetime.datetime.now()) new_thing.save() >>>>select * from MyTable\G; last_updated: 2010-04-01 05:26:21 However, in my Python console...this is what it says... >>> print datetime.datetime.now() 2010-04-01 10:26:21.643041 So obviously it's off by 5 hours. By the way, the database uses "SYSTEM" as its time, so they should match perfectly. mysql> SELECT current_time; +--------------+ | current_time | +--------------+ | 10:30:16 | +--------------+ >>> print datetime.datetime.now() 2010-04-01 10:30:17.793040

  • Updating or inserting high scores in SQL

    - by Roger Gilbrat
    I've been racking my brain over this for the past few days and I'm not sure it's possible, but figured I ask here. Is it possible for a single SQL statement to update a high score if your score is greater or insert it if your first score? My Score table has a UserID, Level and Score columns and I like it to follow the following logic: If your new score is greater than your last score for this Level, then replace it. If you don't have a score for this Level then add it. If your score for this Level is less than your highest score for this Level then do nothing. Is this possible in a single SQL statement or do I have to use two, one to see if you have a new high score and if so, replace it? Each UserID would have only one score in the table for each Level. I'm using MySQL.

  • how to get current date and time in command line

    - by Ieyasu Sawada
    I am using mysqldump to backup mysql database. Now I just need to use the current date and time as file name for the generated sql file. How do I do that if my current code looks like this: mysqldump -u root -p --add-drop-table --create-options --password= onstor >c:\sql.sql I also found this code from this site, but I do not know how to incorporate it in my current code: @echo off For /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /t') do (set mydate=%%c-%%a-%%b) For /f "tokens=1-2 delims=/:" %%a in ('time /t') do (set mytime=%%a%%b) echo %mydate%_%mytime% Please help, thanks:)

Thanks.

    Hello, In the code below, "created" is a field in a MySQL table. This field is of the type "timestamp" and the default is set to "CURRENT_TIMESTAMP" of whenever a given row is created. • Best way to gather, then import data into drupal?

    - by Frank
    I am building my first database driven website with Drupal and I have a few questions. I am currently populating a google docs excel spreadsheet with all of the data I want to eventually be able to query from the website (after it's imported). Is this the best way to start? If this is not the best way to start what would you recommend? My plan is to populate the spreadsheet then import it as a csv into the mysql db via the CCK Node. I've seen two ways to do this. http://drupal.org/node/133705 (importing data into CCK nodes) http://drupal.org/node/237574 (Inserting data using spreadsheet/csv instead of SQL insert statements) Basically my question(s) is what is the best way to gather, then import data into drupal? Thanks in advance for any help, suggestions.

  • Advantage to parsing Excel Spreadsheet data vs. CSV?

    - by john
    I have tabulated data in an Excel spreadsheet (file size will likely never be larger than 1 mb). I want to use PHP to parse the data and insert in to a MySQL database. Is there any advantage to keeping the file as an .xls/.xlsx and parsing it using a PHP Excel Parsing Library? If so, what are some good libraries to use? Obviuously, I can save the .xls/.xlsx as a CSV and handle the file that way. Thanks!

  • Creating a video chat application for drupal site

    - by Dswabster
    I am trying to write an application for website powered by drupal, basically i would like to create an application only authenticated users are able to use, and users are only allowed to connect with members of the opposite group they are a member of. I have been learning flash builder 4 and learning the basics of actionscript but I am still pretty new to Flash and Flex development. I would like to users to connect using the Adobe Stratus 2 protocol and if possible by authentication on existing site and using membership data from existing mysql database. If anyone could give me a nudge in the right direction on how I should go about creating this application or the next steps i should take, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I sync a database driven website to a different server

    - by tbrandao
    I have a website using cPanel on a dedicated account, I would like to be able to automatically sync the website to a second hosting company or perhaps to a local (in house ) server. Basically this is a type of replication. The website is database driven (MySQL), so Ideally it would sync everything (content, database, emails etc.) , but most importantly is syncing the website files and its database. I'm not so much looking for a fail-over solution as an automatic replication solution, so if the primary site (Server) goes off-line, I can manually bring up the replicated site quickly. I'm familiar with tools like unison and rsync, but most of these only sync file(s) and do not do too well with open database connections.

  • How to design this simple database?

    - by Vafello
    I have 2 tables - one storing user information (id, username, password) and the second one storing information about events (id, name, description, date, username(represents the user who created the event)). I would like to implement 'favourite events' functionality. This would allow the user to store his favourite events and later display them in a list. I am not sure how to implement this in terms of design. I need a simple solution. Something like storing the IDs of favourite events in a field in the user table. I am using mysql and php. Can anyone point me to the right direction?
