  • how to pass Html.TextBox to controller?

    - by sam26092004
May be this simple. But, I've hard time figuring it out. I've a controller with different actions that calls the DB code and return result. I want to pass the value of text box to different actions in controller. How to do it? I know that, I can pass values by using form. But, I don't to know how to call different actions in controller from single view.

  • Good FORTRAN books/tutorials for beginners?

    - by AndrejaKo
This may be a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31672/learning-fortran-in-the-modern-era, but that thread went on discussing legacy code concerns. Anyway, few months ago in a bookstore sale I picked up book called FORTRAN 66 for PDP-11. I found it interesting and decided it would be nice to learn FORTRAN. So I'm looking for some modern books/tutorials dealing with new versions of FORTRAN.

  • Creating lots of arrays

    - by Dmitry
Hello, everybody! May be that is a stupid question. How to create, say, 30 arrays (it doesn't matter of what type, say, char[])? It seems to me that it is not a good idea, to create them one by one by hand. I want to do that using a "for" cycle, but how should I specify identifiers?

  • C# DriveInfo FileInfo

    - by maxfridbe
This may seem like a stupid question, so here goes: Other than parsing the string of FileInfo.FullPath for the drive letter to then use DriveInfo("c") etc to see if there is enough space to write this file. Is there a way to get the drive letter from FileInfo?

  • deleted gen folder, eclipse isn't generating it now :(

    - by LuxuryMode
I accidentally deleted my gen folder and now, predictably, my resources are all messed up. I just created a gen folder myself and tried to project clean - that didn't work. Tried right-clicking project and going to android tools fix project properties - didn't work. Tried unchecking build automatically...didn't work. cleaned, closed project, closed eclipse, restarted, etc, etc. Nothing is working and I keep seeing this error: gen already exists but is not a source folder. Convert to a source folder or rename it. EDIT - OK was able to generate R.java, but now I'm getting crazy stuff in the console: [2011-06-14 17:06:11 - fastapp] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1 [2011-06-14 17:06:42 - fastapp] Dx trouble processing "java/awt/font/NumericShaper.class": Ill-advised or mistaken usage of a core class (java.* or javax.*) when not building a core library. This is often due to inadvertently including a core library file in your application's project, when using an IDE (such as Eclipse). If you are sure you're not intentionally defining a core class, then this is the most likely explanation of what's going on. However, you might actually be trying to define a class in a core namespace, the source of which you may have taken, for example, from a non-Android virtual machine project. This will most assuredly not work. At a minimum, it jeopardizes the compatibility of your app with future versions of the platform. It is also often of questionable legality. If you really intend to build a core library -- which is only appropriate as part of creating a full virtual machine distribution, as opposed to compiling an application -- then use the "--core-library" option to suppress this error message. If you go ahead and use "--core-library" but are in fact building an application, then be forewarned that your application will still fail to build or run, at some point. Please be prepared for angry customers who find, for example, that your application ceases to function once they upgrade their operating system. You will be to blame for this problem. If you are legitimately using some code that happens to be in a core package, then the easiest safe alternative you have is to repackage that code. That is, move the classes in question into your own package namespace. This means that they will never be in conflict with core system classes. JarJar is a tool that may help you in this endeavor. If you find that you cannot do this, then that is an indication that the path you are on will ultimately lead to pain, suffering, grief, and lamentation. • Are you a self taught programmer or did you take a programming course?

    - by workinprogress
Lots of developers I know were self taught programmers including me. I was wondering how much of the developer community learned programming by taking a course in school or by experimenting, asking questions on forums, reading online articles, and just making it up as you go along? Post whether you were self taught or took classes, what language you program in, and anything else that may be interesting. P.S. Books count as self taught.

  • Input/ Output alternatives for printf/scanf

    - by Nitish
It may sound strange that knowing a lot about ios and haing some experience in .net, I am a newcomer to C. Somewhere I got this target to find average of n numbers without using printf and scanf. I don't want the code for the program but it will be really helpful if someone can help me with the alternatives to the mentioned functions. Please let me know if code with printf/scanf is required here. Also do let me know if my query stands invalid. Thanks and Regards, Nitish

  • MySQL query String contains

    - by arik-so
Hello. This may sound easy, but I've been trying - in vain, apparently - to figure out how I can make a query with MySQL that checks if the value (string $haystack ;) ) in a certain column contains certain data ( $needle ;) ), like this: mysql_query(" SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE `column`.contains('{$needle}') "); In PHP, the function is called substr($haystack, $needle), so maybe: WHERE substr(`column`, '{$needle}')=1 Thanks in advance!

  • How can I structure and recode messy categorical data in R?

    - by briandk
I'm struggling with how to best structure categorical data that's messy, and comes from a dataset I'll need to clean. The Coding Scheme I'm analyzing data from a university science course exam. We're looking at patterns in student responses, and we developed a coding scheme to represent the kinds of things students are doing in their answers. A subset of the coding scheme is shown below. Note that within each major code (1, 2, 3) are nested non-unique sub-codes (a, b, ...). What the Raw Data Looks Like I've created an anonymized, raw subset of my actual data which you can view here. Part of my problem is that those who coded the data noticed that some students displayed multiple patterns. The coders' solution was to create enough columns (reason1, reason2, ...) to hold students with multiple patterns. That becomes important because the order (reason1, reason2) is arbitrary--two students (like student 41 and student 42 in my dataset) who correctly applied "dependency" should both register in an analysis, regardless of whether 3a appears in the reason column or the reason2 column. How Can I Best Structure Student Data? Part of my problem is that in the raw data, not all students display the same patterns, or the same number of them, in the same order. Some students may do just one thing, others may do several. So, an abstracted representation of example students might look like this: Note in the example above that student002 and student003 both are coded as "1b", although I've deliberately shown the order as different to reflect the reality of my data. My (Practical) Questions Should I concatenate reason1, reason2, ... into one column? How can I (re)code the reasons in R to reflect the multiplicity for some students? Thanks I realize this question is as much about good data conceptualization as it is about specific features of R, but I thought it would be appropriate to ask it here. If you feel it's inappropriate for me to ask the question, please let me know in the comments, and stackoverflow will automatically flood my inbox with sadface emoticons. If I haven't been specific enough, please let me know and I'll do my best to be clearer.

  • Fast find near users using PostGIS

    - by opedge
I have 5 tables: - users - information about user with current location_id (fk to geo_location_data) - geo_location_data - information about location, with PostGIS geography(POINT, 4326) column - user_friends - relationships between users. I want to find near friends for current user, but it takes a lot of time of executing select query to know if user is a friend and after that execute select using ST_DWithin.. May be something wrong in domain model or in queries?

  • Public free web services for testing soap client

Are there any publicly available SOAP 1.2/WSDL 2.0 compliant free web services for testing a Python based soap client library (e.g. Zolera SOAP Infrastructure)? So far, it appears to me that Google Web API may be the only option. Otherwise, how can one test a SOAP 1.2 compliant client library?

  • getting the "this" that a function's caller was called with in JavaScript

    - by David Morrissey
Is it possible to get the this that a function's caller was called with in JavaScript without passing this to the arguments in a way which supports IE as well as Firefox/Chrome et al? For example: var ob = { callme: function() { doSomething() } } function doSomething() { alert(doSomething.caller.this === ob) // how can I make this work? } ob.callme() I'm starting to suspect it's not, but I thought I may as well ask as it'd make my code much shorter and easier to read. Thanks for any information!

  • java.util.zip - ZipInputStream v.s. ZipFile

    - by lucho
Hello, community! I have some general questions regarding the java.util.zip library. What we basically do is an import and an export of many small components. Previously these components were imported and exported using a single big file, e.g.: <component-type-a id="1"/> <component-type-a id="2"/> <component-type-a id="N"/> <component-type-b id="1"/> <component-type-b id="2"/> <component-type-b id="N"/> Please note that the order of the components during import is relevant. Now every component should occupy its own file which should be externally versioned, QA-ed, bla, bla. We decided that the output of our export should be a zip file (with all these files in) and the input of our import should be a similar zip file. We do not want to explode the zip in our system. We do not want opening separate streams for each of the small files. My current questions: Q1. May the ZipInputStream guarantee that the zip entries (the little files) will be read in the same order in which they were inserted by our export that uses ZipOutputStream? I assume reading is something like: ZipInputStream zis = new ZipInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(fis)); ZipEntry entry; while((entry = zis.getNextEntry()) != null) { //read from zis until available } I know that the central zip directory is put at the end of the zip file but nevertheless the file entries inside have sequential order. I also know that relying on the order is an ugly idea but I just want to have all the facts in mind. Q2. If I use ZipFile (which I prefer) what is the performance impact of calling getInputStream() hundreds of times? Will it be much slower than the ZipInputStream solution? The zip is opened only once and ZipFile is backed by RandomAccessFile - is this correct? I assume reading is something like: ZipFile zipfile = new ZipFile(argv[0]); Enumeration e = zipfile.entries();//TODO: assure the order of the entries while(e.hasMoreElements()) { entry = (ZipEntry) e.nextElement(); is = zipfile.getInputStream(entry)); } Q3. Are the input streams retrieved from the same ZipFile thread safe (e.g. may I read different entries in different threads simultaneously)? Any performance penalties? Thanks for your answers!
