  • If you stick to standard coding in .NET, is there reason to manually invoke the GC or run finalizers

    - by Matt
If you stick to managed code and standard coding (nothing that does unconventional things withe CLR) in .NET, is there any reason to manually invoke the GC or request to run finalizers on unreferenced objects? The reason I ask is thaty I have an app that grows huge in Working Memory set. I'm wondering if calling System.GC.Collect(); and System.GC.RunFinalizers(); would help, and if it would force anything that wouldn't be done by the CLR normally anyways.

  • How can I configure a Hudson job to use a specific JDK?

    - by rewbs
I have a number of projects running on a Hudson slave. I'd like one of them to run Ant under Java6, rather than the default (which is Java5 in my environment). In the project configuration view, I was hoping to find either: An explicit option allowing me to set a custom JDK location to use for this project. A way to set custom environment variables for this project, which would allow me to set JAVA_HOME to the JDK6 location. The would make Ant pick up and run on Java6 as desired. Is there a way to do either of the above? If one of those facilities is available, I can't see how to access it. I'm running on Hudson 1.285. I would rather avoid using an "execute shell" operation instead of the "invoke Ant" operation if possible: my slave is on z/OS and Hudson doesn't seem to create the temporary shell scripts properly on this platform (probably an encoding issue).

  • problem in `delete-directory` with enabled `delete-by-removing-to-trash`

    - by Andreo
There is a strange behavior of delete-directory function with enabled flag delete-by-removing-to-trash. It deletes files one by one instead of applying move-file-to-trash to the directory. As a result emacs deletes big directories slowly and there are many files in the trash after deleting, so it is impossible to restore the directory. Example: Directory structure: ddd/ ccc/ 1.txt There are three files in the trash after deleting ddd: trash/ ddd/ ccc/ 1.txt instead of one: trash/ ddd/ It is very slow, because emacs traverse directory recursively. I can't restore deleted directory. What i need is exactly the same behavior as of move-file-to-trash. But it should be transparent (i.e. 'D x' in dired mode). How to solve the problem? As a temporary solution i see the making advice function for `delete-directory'.

  • If I never ever use HashSet, should I still implement GetHashCode?

    - by Dimitri C.
I never need to store objects in a hash table. The reason is twofold: coming up with a good hash function is difficult and error prone. an AVL tree is almost always fast enough, and it merely requires a strict order predicate, which is much easier to implement. The Equals() operation on the other hand is a very frequently used function. Therefore I wonder whether it is necessary to implement GetHashCode (which I never need) when implementing the Equals function (which I often need)?

  • Persisting and applying Linq Query to collection

    - by MattiasK
I have a scenario where I would want a plugin to construct a LINQ (to objects) query, send it across an appdomain and then apply and run it against a collection of my choosing Is it possible, how? If not, perhaps I could send a whole method (interface) across the appdomain and run it against the data on the appside? The main thing is that I want the data to reside in the CurrentDomain and the logic for operating on it in the plugin so I don't have to send the data across the boundary...

  • Linq grouping question

    - by Mike C.
I have the following objects in a collection: Transaction: Type = "Widget" Date = "3/1/2011" Name = "Foo" Transaction: Type = "Widget" Date = "3/4/2011" Name = "Bar" Transaction: Type = "Gadget" Date = "3/2/2011" Name = "Baz" Transaction: Type = "Gizmo" Date = "3/1/2011" Name = "Who" Transaction: Type = "Gizmo" Date = "3/2/2011" Name = "What" Transaction: Type = "Gizmo" Date = "3/6/2011" Name = "When" I want to end up with the following, grouped by Type. If there are multiple, return only the first one chronologically by date. Transaction: Type = "Widget" Date = "3/1/2011" Name = "Foo" Transaction: Type = "Gadget" Date = "3/2/2011" Name = "Baz" Transaction: Type = "Gizmo" Date = "3/1/2011" Name = "Who"

  • [C++] STL list - how to find a list element by its object fields

    - by Dominic Bou-Samra
I have a list: list<Unit *> UnitCollection; containing Unit objects, which has an accessor like: bool Unit::isUnit(string uCode) { if(this->unitCode == uCode) return true; else return false; } How do I search my UnitCollection list by uCode and return the corresponding element (preferably it's index). I have looked at the find() method, but i'm not sure you can pass a boolean method in instead of a searched item parameter if that makes sense.

  • Detect when a new property is added to a Javascript object?

    - by UICodes
A simple example using a built-in javascript object: navigator.my_new_property = "some value"; //can we detect that this new property was added? I don't want to constantly poll the object to check for new properties. Is there some type of higher level setter for objects instead of explicitly stating the property to monitor? Again, I don't want to detect if the property value changed, but rather when a new property is added. Ideas? thanks

  • Alternatives of Datatable

    - by mavera
In my web application, I have a dynamic query that returns huge data to datatable, and this query is often recalled with different parameters. So database is exhausted. I want to get all record with no parameters to an object, and perform queries (may be with linq) on this object. So database will not be exthausted. Which objects can be used instead of datatable?

  • How do I clear the text contents of a div in javascript?

    - by Ben
I'm temporarily adding contents to a div, tempDiv, and adding that to a link which is appended to a div, #contentHere, that's displayed. I need to clear the contents of tempDiv so that the links aren't appended to each other, creating a string of urls that don't link to anywhere. $(document).ready(function(){ $.getJSON("data.php", function(data){ for(i = 0; i < 5; i++){ $("#tempDiv").append(data.justIn[i].dataLink+ ' '); $("#contentHere").append("<a href=\"#tempDiv\">Click to go to the div link</a>"); //I need to clear the contents of tempDiv here } }); }); Solutions to clearing the temporary contents of the div as I go?

  • Type hinting for functions in Clojure

    - by mikera
I'm trying to resolve a reflection warning in Clojure that seems to result from the lack of type inference on function return values that are normal Java objects. Trivial example code that demonstrates the issue: (set! *warn-on-reflection* true) (defn foo [#^Integer x] (+ 3 x)) (.equals (foo 2) (foo 2)) => Reflection warning, NO_SOURCE_PATH:10 - call to equals can't be resolved. true What is the best way to solve this? Can this be done with type hints?

  • Strategy for wiring up events?

    - by Jeffrey Cameron
I'm using Ninject (1.5 ... soon to be 2) and I'm curious how other people use Ninject or other IoC containers to help wire up events to objects? It seems to me in my code that I'm doing it herky-jerky all over the place and would love some advice on how to clean it up a bit. What are people doing out there to manage this?

  • How can I move an object left and right with silverlight?

    - by Craig
I currently have two buttons that say left and right, and I want them to move a square object left and right respectively. What its currently doing when i press left is moving the square to the left, and if I press left again, it resets from the center and goes left. I want it so that when I press left, from where ever it is currently to go left and right. I know the principle is something like get current objects position and add the canvas coordinates respectively but how do I do this?

  • MySql returning multiple rows from stored procedure / function

    - by pistacchio
Hi, I need to make a stored procedure or function that returns a set of rows. I've noted that in a stored procedure i can SELECT * FROM table with success. If i fetch rows in a loop and SELECT something, something_other FROM table once per loop execution, I only get one single result. What I need to do is looping, doing some calculations and returning a rowset. What's the best way to do this? A temporary table? Stored functions? Any help appreciated.

  • MS SQL Server stored procedure meaning

    - by den-javamaniac
Hi. I'm developing a simple database architecture in VisualParadigm and lately ran over next code excerpt. IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.objects WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'getType') AND type in (N'P', N'PC')) DROP PROCEDURE getType; Next goes my stored procedure: CREATE PROCEDURE getType @typeId int AS SELECT * FROM type t WHERE t.type_id = @typeId; Can anyone explain what does it mean? P.S.: It would be great, if you may also check for any syntax errors as I'm totally new to MSSQL and stored procedures.

  • Marking up table joins in the Microstrategy project metadata with the architect tool?

    - by ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells
Hi, I am evaluating Microstrategy 9.0.1 and attempting to build a prototype metadata layer using its Architect tool. The tool doesn't seem to have any specific means to mark up joins in the way that the editing tools for SSRS data source views or Business Objects universes do. How does this work in Microstrategy - I have never used this before and may be making invalid assumptions based on other systems I have seen. If one does do this with MicroStrategy, how is it done?
