  • Denali CTP3 - Semantic Search 2 (Lots of documents)

    - by sqlartist
Hi again, I thought I would improve on the previous post by actually putting a decent about of content into the Filetable - this time I used the opensource DMOZ Health document repository which contains 5,880 files inside 220 folders. The files are all html and are pretty small in size. The entire document collection is about 120Mb unzipped and 30Mb zipped. If any one is interested in testing this collection drop me a note and I will upload the dmoz_health repository archive to Skydrive. This time...(read more)

  • Community Event Leader Tools

    - by GavinPayneUK
As many of you know, I run a small SQL Server community event here in the UK, SQL Server in the Evening, with the help of Coeo colleague and MVP Justin Langford.  There’s been half a dozen evening events in the last 16 months and recently it got to the point where I needed to start putting proper tools in place to communicate with my event’s followers.  As well as telling them when the next event is it’d also be nice to share some of the Chapter Leader mails I get from Pass etc.  ...(read more)

  • SignalR Book

I’d love to see the puppy plugged into a rich client side ORM…

  • Can I change the filter options in the video lens?

    - by user49523
Can I change the video options on the new dash menu? To be more precise, on the video file find menu filters, can I Add, Remove or Change what URLs can be include? If so how can I do? For example if I want to change in the filters youtube shows to YouTube comedy, how you do it? (I just installed MyUnity but from what I read and tested it won't fully work on Unity 2D, however I can change video filters using that)

  • How can I make eclipse look like VS.NET 2010?

    - by Juan Manuel
I am constantly switching between a project written in C# 4.0 and another one written in Java. I find it very difficult to read the code in Java, and I think it's because of its colors (or lack of them really) Is there any way to mimic the colors that VS.NET 2010 has inside eclipse? (even better would be to replace all its hotkeys for their equivalent in VS.NET, like ctrl+k for ctrl+f3, but I believe it would be utopic)

  • Software Center doesn't show files installed

    - by postfuturist
When I install a program in the Software Center that happens to install a menu option, it is discoverable through the menu, but if it is a package that is documentation, or command-line only, there is no simple way to discover how to actually access the content / software. Is there a way in the Software Center to see what files or executables were installed with a particular package so I can actually use / read it?

  • Just what SQL Azure needed? A compelling business feature–Reporting

    - by GavinPayneUK
Those of us who let ourselves be the target of Microsoft’s marketing will be very aware that SQL Azure has been around for a year now and that a (very) small number of people are using it for their cloud based apps and a few more as a development test bed. In summary, the reason for this is because what we’ve yet to see for SQL Azure is: mass adoption by developers therefore taking the service into production it become a default deployment option for commercial shrink wrapped applications a list...(read more)

  • Configuring Site Policy in SharePoint 2013 using server code

    - by panjkov
When you create Site Policy in SharePoint, you can configure its options using browser, which is particularly convenient when you have that policy configured for publishing in Content Type Hub. But, when you need to configure multiple sites with same policy, and you for any reason have to deploy multiple instances of same site policy, this browser-based editing process is not something that you would want to use. In that case, some way of configuring policy options automatically would be helpful...(read more)

  • CloudSeeder: CLR Stored Procedures For Creating CPU Pressure

    - by Adam Machanic
Sometimes, in the interest of testing various scenarios that your server might encounter, it's useful to be able to quickly simulate some condition or another. I/O, memory, CPU pressure, and so on. This latter one is something I've been playing with a lot recently. CPU pressure in SQL Server creates all sorts of interesting side-effects , such as exacerbating waits and making various other conditions much easier to reproduce. In order to make this simpler, I've created the attached CLR library. This...(read more)

  • Connect Digest : 2012-07-06

    - by AaronBertrand
I've filed a few Connect items recently that I think are important. In #752210 , I complain that the documentation for DDL triggers suggests that they can prevent certain DDL from being run, which is not the case at all. http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/752210/doc-ddl-trigger-topic-suggests-that-rollbacks-run-before-action In #745796 , I complain that scripting datetime data in Management Studio yields output that contains a binary representation instead of a human-readable...(read more)

  • Windows Cloud Services Aren’t Exclusive to Microsoft

    - by Ken Cox [MVP]
The Windows Azure brand has captured mindshare for the buzzword-du-jour, ‘cloud computing’. However, Microsoft certainly isn’t the only option for cranking up virtual machines to meet unexpected or peak demands. For example, I see that OrcsWeb has released its Windows Cloud Servers product , starting at $99.99 a month*.  Competition is a good thing - and make sure you do some cost comparisons when researching cloud resources. Some of us were unpleasantly surprised by Azure’s pricing structure...(read more)

  • 24 Hours of PASS next week, pre-con preview style

    - by drsql
I will be doing my Characteristics of a Great Relational Database , which is a session that I haven’t done since last PASS. When I was asked about doing this Summit Preview version of 24 hours of PASS, I decided that I would do this session, largely because it is kind of light and fun, but also because it is either going to be the basis of the end section of my pre-con at the summit or it is going to be the section of the pre-con we don’t get to because we are so involved in working out designs that...(read more)

  • Most efficient 3d depth sorting for isometric 3d in AS3?

    - by AttackingHobo
I am not using the built in 3d MovieClips, and I am storing the 3d location my way. I have read a few different articles on sorting depths, but most of them seem in efficient. I had a really efficient way to do it in AS2, but it was really hacky, and I am guessing there are more efficient ways that do not rely on possibly unreliable hacks. What is the most efficient way to sort display depths using AS3 with Z depths I already have?
