• Maximize Your Quadcopter’s Range with a Wi-Fi Repeater

  The majority of commercial quadcopters use Wi-Fi for remote control and suffer from a fairly limited range. This simple hack uses an Wi-Fi router as an extender to radically expand the range of your copter. There’s no heavy modification or code tweaking required, all you need is a power source for the router and the ability to set it up as a repeater. The extra signal boost provided by the repeater extends the range from an average of 50 meters to over 250 meters. Check out the video above to see it in action. If you’re looking for a more dependable but more labor intensive way to extend the range of your copter, you can also retrofit it with a traditional radio-controlled remote. • Working with Backing Beans in JDeveloper - The Right Way

  One nice feature that was in JDeveloper for a long time is the ability to automatically expose every component on your JSF page in a backing bean. While this is a nice "work saving" feature, you shouldn't be using this one in most cases. The reason is that it will create objects in your backing bean code for a lot of items you don't actually need to manipulate, making your code bigger and more complex to maintain. The right way of working is to expose only components you need in your backing bean - and JDeveloper makes this just as easy through the binding property in the property inspector and the edit option it has. • In general, are programmers or artists paid better?

  I'm in a private game programming school where there also are 3D art classes; sadly, there seems to be a lot more students in those latter classes, something like 50% or 100% more. So I was wondering: in the real video game industry, which of the artist/modeler or the programmer is more likely to be wanted in a company, so who will be paid more ? I'm sure there are artists which are obviously paid better than other programmers and I'm sure there are other sorts of jobs in the game industry (sound, management, testers), but I wanted to know if there is a general tendency for one or the other. And sometime I wonder even if an artist can happen to write scripts...

• How to get the mic on the Creative X-Mod soundcard working correctly?

  Well, I have this problem for a while now. When my computer start the mic seem to work but it's like it's muted. I have to go to a terminal and type alsamixer -c 1 and then I set up PCM Capture Source on Line and set up it back to Mic to get the mic actually working. Is there is a way to do this automatically or to solve the problem. I use a special workaround on this card because of the bug #429642. My workaround is having this at the end of my /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/default.conf : [Mapping xmod-stereo-out] device-strings = surround51:%f description = Analog Stereo Creative Xmod channel-map = front-left,front-right paths-output = analog-output analog-output-headphones analog-output-mono analog-output-lfe-on-mono paths-input = analog-input analog-input-mic analog-input-linein analog-input-aux analog-input-video analog-input-tvtuner analog-input-fm analog-input-mic-line priority = 10 Maybe the bug come from here, maybe I have to change something. • Youtube videos suddenly all report "Invalid parameters" and won't play

  Running 11.10, with up-to-date Flash (11.1.102.55, which the Flash site agrees is the up-to-date version). Every Youtube video reports a blank screen with the words, "Invalid parameters": I've tried fiddling with the player "hardware acceleration" setting, and that has no effect. Similarly, I've clicked and un-clicked and re-clicked the "storage" options in the global settings thing, also to no effect. I haven't seen this in any google searches (though there are other problems described involved the "Invalid parameters" message) which makes me think it's a recent phenomenon. edit — hmm, fails in Firefox but works in Chrome ...

Check out the above video to see the steps required to patch, paint, and frame a space on your wall to serve as a projection screen. You’ll need spackle, sandpaper, white paint, and some very basic carpentry skills to complete the simple wood frame for your painted-on screen. If you’d like to create a screen using the same technique but make it removable (for adjustments or to take it with you when you move out) you can just as easily use the paint-it-on technique with a piece of hardboard instead of the drywall.   I recently started on developing in PHP with the Yii Framework. I recently came across the Grails Framework and I'm pretty impressed by the sites they make, bigger companies seem to use Grails for their web development. When looking at yii, not many big companies are using it. I'm just starting out with the Yii framework and I don't want to turn back halfway when in the middle of learning Yii, so I hope someone can give me some comparison about the 2 in terms of power. Does Grails make things much easier and benefit me in the long run? I only have C++ background for now. It boils down to this. I want a powerful framework which will serve me for a very long time and by looking at the number of big companies using Grails, I feel discouraged to take the Yii path. Thank you! • latest intel graphics driver?

  I have Intel Graphics Card, which have model number GM965. It is on a Notebook, (Lenovo 3000 Y410). My Ubuntu Installation worked good until I upgraded to 12.04. It was a fresh install. The Graphics performance is poor compared to Natty, Oneiric. In the details tab of System Settings, Graphics driver is shown as "Unknown". I have upgraded the xserver-xorg-video-intel package to version 2.19.. from 2.17. But still same. So, My question is How can I install latest Intel graphics driver for my Chipset? or Is there any other method to fix the problem with graphics.

  Microsoft Lync Server 2010 communications software and its client software, such as Microsoft Lync 2010, enable your users to connect in new ways and to stay connected, regardless of their physical location. Lync 2010 and Lync Server 2010 bring together the different ways that people communicate in a single client interface, are deployed as a unified platform, and are administered through a single management infrastructure. Workload Description IM and presence Instant messaging (IM) and presence help your users find and communicate with one another efficiently and effectively. IM provides an instant messaging platform with conversation history, and supports public IM connectivity with users of public IM networks such as MSN/Windows Live, Yahoo!, and AOL. Presence establishes and displays a user’s personal availability and willingness to communicate through the use of common states such as Available or Busy. This rich presence information enables other users to immediately make effective communication choices. Conferencing Lync Server includes support for IM conferencing, audio conferencing, web conferencing, video conferencing, and application sharing, for both scheduled and impromptu meetings. All these meeting types are supported with a single client. Lync Server also supports dial-in conferencing so that users of public switched telephone network (PSTN) phones can participate in the audio portion of conferences. Conferences can seamlessly change and grow in real time. For example, a single conference can start as just instant messages between a few users, and escalate to an audio conference with desktop sharing and a larger audience instantly, easily, and without interrupting the conversation flow. Enterprise Voice Enterprise Voice is the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) offering in Lync Server 2010. It delivers a voice option to enhance or replace traditional private branch exchange (PBX) systems. In addition to the complete telephony capabilities of an IP PBX, Enterprise Voice is integrated with rich presence, IM, collaboration, and meetings. Features such as call answer, hold, resume, transfer, forward and divert are supported directly, while personalized speed dialing keys are replaced by Contacts lists, and automatic intercom is replaced with IM. Enterprise Voice supports high availability through call admission control (CAC), branch office survivability, and extended options for data resiliency. Support for remote users You can provide full Lync Server functionality for users who are currently outside your organization’s firewalls by deploying servers called Edge Servers to provide a connection for these remote users. These remote users can connect to conferences by using a personal computer with Lync 2010 installed, the phone, or a web interface. Deploying Edge Servers also enables you to federate with partner or vendor organizations. A federated relationship enables your users to put federated users on their Contacts lists, exchange presence information and instant messages with these users, and invite them to audio calls, video calls, and conferences. Integration with other products Lync Server integrates with several other products to provide additional benefits to your users and administrators. Meeting tools are integrated into Outlook 2010 to enable organizers to schedule a meeting or start an impromptu conference with a single click and make it just as easy for attendees to join. Presence information is integrated into Outlook 2010 and SharePoint 2010. Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) provides several integration features. Users can see if they have new voice mail within Lync 2010. They can click a play button in the Outlook message to hear the audio voice mail, or view a transcription of the voice mail in the notification message. Simple deployment To help you plan and deploy your servers and clients, Lync Server provides the Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Planning Tool and the Topology Builder. Lync Server 2010, Planning Tool is a wizard that interactively asks you a series of questions about your organization, the Lync Server features you want to enable, and your capacity planning needs. Then, it creates a recommended deployment topology based on your answers, and produces several forms of output to aid your planning and installation. Topology Builder is an installation component of Lync Server 2010. You use Topology Builder to create, adjust and publish your planned topology. It also validates your topology before you begin server installations. When you install Lync Server on individual servers, the installation program deploys the server as directed in the topology. Simple management After you deploy Lync Server, it offers the following powerful and streamlined management tools: Active Directory for its user information, which eliminates the need for separate user and policy databases. Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Control Panel, a new web-based graphical user interface for administrators. With this web-based UI, Lync Server administrators can manage their systems from anywhere on the corporate network, without needing specialized management software installed on their computers. Lync Server Management Shell command-line management tool, which is based on the Windows PowerShell command-line interface. It provides a rich command set for administration of all aspects of the product, and enables Lync Server administrators to automate repetitive tasks using a familiar tool. While the IM and presence features are automatically installed in every Lync Server deployment, you can choose whether to deploy conferencing, Enterprise Voice, and remote user access, to tailor your deployment to your organization’s needs.

  Hi folks! Is there any program for Linux that has about the same functionality and usability as Microsoft OneNote? At the moment I am checking out Basket (for KDE), that seems to point to the right direction, but still lacks much of the functionality of OneNote and is very buggy unfortunately.
