  • PHP MySQLi isn't letting me alter a table (adding a new column)

    Well thats pretty much it. This is my query: $query = 'ALTER TABLE permissions ADD '.$name.' INT NOT NULL DEFAULT \'0\''; Where $name is already checked to exist with only lower case alpha letters, and not more than 20 length. Im just starting this out with very simple names. The next 4 lines of code after that one are: if($stmt = $db -> prepare($query)) { $success = $stmt -> execute(); $stmt -> close(); if(!$success) echo 'ERROR: Unsuccessful query: ',$db->error,PHP_EOL; } And I get back, every time ERROR: Unsuccessful query: And no error message. Is there a way to get more error messages so I can see what is failing? I can add new columns through phpmyadmin, but that really doesnt help me at all. The $db is fine, i do lots of stuff before and after this one section. It is only adding new column to the table that fails. side question: prepare() rejected my query every time when i tried to make those 2 variables, the $name and the 0 value as ? ? prepared statement values. Thats why they are in the real query and not bound later. If i could change that too I would like that.

How do I get the name of the files?

  • Organize array in PHP from mysql

    Hi i have a social networking website. what i want it to do is pull out my friends status updates. basically what it does is i have a mysql query that pulls out all of my friends and in that while loop there is another mysql query that pulls out the status's from my friends. i want it to be in order of date but since its one while loop in another what it does is pull out all status's from friend 1 then 2 then 3 and not in order by date. i even tried ORDER BY DATE but that just ordered it by date within the friend.. my thought is that i could putt it all in an array and friends is one thing and the values is the stats. then just sort by values would this work and how could i do it.     I have a client who wants to be able to embed an Excel document (one that is currently sitting on the same server as the HTML document) like how you would embed a Flash app on a page. I'm correct in assuming this is not possible, right? Please confirm/deny so we can hopefully move on from this because he seems to think this is possible.     I'm trying to use adodb for db access in my webapp. However my hosting provider has mysql case sensitive, and I have all my fields in lowercase. But when I call getInsertSQL function, I got them in uppercase. Is there a way to force adodb to use lowercase? I tried with define('ADODB_ASSOC_CASE', 0); $ADODB_ASSOC_CASE = 0; But it seems to be ignored as the constant is suppose to be used only with oracle, MSSQL and other DBMS $conn = &ADONewConnection($this->DbType); $conn = PConnect($dbServer,$dbUser, $dbPassword,$database); $tableName = "sample"; $insertSQL = $conn->GetInsertSQL($tableName,$objDB); And I got the SQL statement with the column names in uppercase.

    I have a HTML node like so: <b>Bold text</b> A variable $el contains a DOMElement reference to the text of that HTML node ("Bold text"), got from the XPath expression //b/text() I want to change the element to <b><span>Bold Text</span></b> So I tried: $span = $doc->createElement('span', "Bold Text"); $el->parentNode->replaceChild($span,, $el) which fails because parentNode is null. So, as a test, I tried: $el-insertBefore($span, $el); which throws no errors but produces no change in the output. Any thoughts?

    I'm doing a simple shopping cart for a small site. I plan to store cart items as well as logged in user_id in session variables. to make things a little more secure, I thought I'd do this: sha1() the user_id before storing it in the session. Also sha1() and store the http_user_agent var with some salt, and check this along with the user_id. I know there is more one can do, but I thought this at least helps quite a bit right? and is easy for me to implement.

    Ok, here is an issue: in the project i'm working on, we can't rely on server-side sessions for any functionality. The problem is that common captcha solutions from preventing robotic submits require session to store the string to match captcha against. The question is - is there any way to solve the problem without using sessions? What comes to my mind - is serving hidden form field, containing some hash, along with captcha input field, so that server then can match these two values together. But how can we make this method secure, so that it couldn't be used to break captcha easily.
