    I'm not satisfied with the answers given by the SOAP vs REST questions notably here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/106546/performance-of-soap-vs-xml-rpc-or-rest because it's just general philosophical answers and not pragmatic answers with some study cases. Nobody can give precise cases of when soap would be more suitable than rest, especially as for performance point of view ? For example let's say I have a flash client for a financiall simulation wizard calling legacy code. Should I use SOAP or REST ? Why ?

  • C++: type Length from float

    This is kinda like my earlier question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2451175/c-vector3-type-wall Except, now, I want to do this to a builtin rather then a user created type. So I want a type "Length" that behaves just like float -- except I'm going to make it's constructor explicit, so I have to explicitly construct Length objects (rather than have random conversions flying around). Basically, I'm going into the type-a-lot camp.

    related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2520535/gcc-multi-dim-array-or-double-pointer-for-warning-free-compile , is there a way to return so-called "decayed array pointer" from a function? in summary (suppose 2 dim array) returning int (*a)[5] format rather than int** format? as far as I see, when returned int** pointer is sent to another function waiting (int*)[] parameter, it is not working correctly.

  • Is 1-to-n multicast on the open internet reliable?

    I'm a newbie at networking. I understand the concept of multicast, but was wondering if it's reliable on the open/public internet? It seems like sort of an edge case that different backbones or ISPs might intentionally break to reduce router load or generally segment the network for practical high-use applications.     User enters tag in the textbox. The textbox is a live search as the user types it brings up suggester results based on the tags already in the system, simiral to stackoverflow tag input :) Tags are separated by commas, so when a user selects a result from the livwe search, it automatically populates the text and a trailing comma does anybody know such plugin?

    If I publish my project now, with added license information, will the license still apply to the project if one goes back a few commits in the history to a state where I hadn't yet added any license information? I interact with the caching class on each web request and this works fine, but I also need to initialise the cache at application start.     I have a large data.frame displaying some weird properties when plotted. I'd like to ask a question about it on Stackoverflow, to do that I'd like to write the data.frame out in a form that I can paste it into SO and somebody else can easily run it and have it back into a data.frame object again. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? Also, if it is really long, should I use paste bin instead of directly paste it here?

  • Could I ever want to access the address zero?

    The constant 0 is used as the null pointer in C and C++. But as in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2389251/pointer-to-a-specific-fixed-address there seems to be some possible use of assigning fixed addresses. Is there ever any conceivable need, in any system, for whatever low level task, for accessing the address 0? If there is, how is that solved with 0 being the null pointer and all? If not, what makes it certain that there is not such a need?

    Whenever the url contains the div id, it would obviously go down to the div when the URL has: http://domain.com.faq.php#1 <div id="1">Bla bla bla</div> But what I like is to have same feature of Stackoverflow, when you click on an answer in your messages, it will scroll down to the page and has that fadeOut effect on the answer. How do I do this?

    Ok, I know this question seems to have been asked many times on stackoverflow. but please read Well the answer for any address is "No you can't" but the question here is to know if a pointer points to a piece of memory allocated with malloc/new. Actually I think it could be easily implemented overriding malloc/free and keeping track of allocated memory ranges. Do you know a memory management library providing this specific tool ?
