  • Windows 2003 SP1 terminal server printers Disappear after reboot - HP laserjet 4240

    - by Alex
had working PCL6 laserjet 4240 driver. needed to downgrade to PCl5, tried but did not get clean install. tried again and it seemed to work (this is 2003 enterprise terminal server SP2) Have over 40 working laserjets (5, 4000, 4100 and 18 of the 4240) After normal nightly reboot the 18 4240 printers were 'gone'. Worked w/Microsoft who said bad HP driver issues - weird since they work on other terminal servers. downloaded latest version, etc. from HP site and can NOT get to work. As soon as I install, then do a Net Stop Spool and Net Start Spooler the printer is 'gone'. Current workaround is to use HP 4000 PCL5 drivers for all of these 4240 printers.

  • openldap search acl

    - by Patrick
I'm trying to write an access control for OpenLDAP to allow a user to search with a certain base dn, but only get results back from certain sub dn's. I've played with lots of different rules but cant get it to work. I'm not sure its even possible. For example: I have the user with the dn uid=testuser,ou=people,dc=example,dc=com. I want this user to be able to search with a base of dc=example,dc=com and get back entries in ou=people,dc=example,dc=com. There are lots of other sub OUs under dc=example,dc=com, but only entries in ou=people should be returned (for bonus, I'd only like certain attributes to be returned as well). Can this be done?

  • Unknown Host Error, is this a registrar problem or a host problem?

    - by jerrygarciuh
Hi guys, I am dealing with a barrel of weasels on this one. Ad agency registered the domain in mid-August with Network Solutions. 72 hours ago I updated the DNS to point to a host provided by an associate of the client whose credentials are dubious. The DNS servers are at NETSONIC.NET (NS1 and NS2) and respond to ping no problem. I can FTP to the server using its IP but the name is no go. The name is also no go for tracert and ping: tracert voodoobbqfranchise.com Unable to resolve target system name voodoobbqfranchise.com. ping voodoobbqfranchise.com ping: unknown host voodoobbqfranchise.com I called NetSol and of course their tier one guy swears it must be the host but I insist that an unknown host must be a NetSol issue. Otherwise we'd get somethng like an httpd_conf error after being routed to the Netsonic server. Am I right? Is this an issue at the registrar? TIA JG

  • MySQL started to consume about 40% of system CPU time and got unresponsive suddenly

    - by Alex
I use Debian 6.0.3 x86_64 and MySQL 5.5.20-1~dotdeb.0-log from the Dotdeb repository. MySQL process started to consume a lot of "sy" CPU time serveral hours ago according to this graph. I was not able to connect to running mysqld process and had to kill it. I found nothing useful in logs. My setup seems to be quite common (I assume Dotdeb just redistributes stock MySQL versions) and I have never seen anything like this before. What is the possible root cause of this? How can I prevent this situation in the future?

  • SharePoint solution package not deploying to all front-ends

    - by Alex
I have a WSP that contains a web part. It's being built using WSPBuilder. Most of the time, the WSP deploys perfectly. However, in two of our test environments (and sadly, in production, too) the WSP doesn't deploy properly to all the web front ends. The assemblies make it into the GAC, and the .webpart files get provisioned. The problem is that a tool part that the web part relies on for configuration simply fails to appear. I've determined that every time this has happened, it has been isolated to a single web front end. I've been able to resolve the issue by doing an stsadm -o deploysolution to re-deploy the solution, and in one instance it was resolved by the end user deactivating/reactivating the feature. Unfortunately, though, this has made it impossible to determine if the control isn't being deployed properly, or if it's some other issue. Any thoughts on this? Could it be a problem with the WSP, or is it likely to be environmental?

  • iptables: How to read this OPT string?

    - by alex
I have a simple INPUT rule for iptables that logs any new connections to a logfile. --log-tcp-options and --log-ip-options flags are both set and I get the appropriate OPT output. One line of my log looks something like this: Nov 29 17:00:00 IN=venet0 OUT= MAC= SRC=x.x.x.x DST=x.x.x.x LEN=64 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=53 ID=37898 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=57755 DPT=8888 WINDOW=65535 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (0204057D010303010101080A3E521D4D0000000004020000) I would like to understand how to interpret the OPT string (bold). Is there some documentation available on what it actually means? How could I make it human-readable?

  • puppet master REST API returns 403 when running under passenger works when master runs from command line

  • Looking to use .htaccess to create SEO friendly URLs

    - by Ray
For SEO purposes, I need someone to modify my .htaccess file. Here's what I need to do: current URL: http://www.abc.com/index.php?page=show_type&ord=1 to new URL: http://www.abc.com/amazing Please note that that if someone types in http://www.abc.com/amazing, they must be served content from the current URL, but the new URL must stay in the address bar. I tried this and it didn't seem to work RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/?amazing/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/ /index.php?page=show_type&ord=1

  • My Unicomp Model M is double-striking on a key. What to do?

    - by Alex
I realize this isn't strictly a computer-related question, but I figured that if there's any place to go for help about a broken keyboard, it would be a power users' forum. The O key on my Unicomp Model M has the tendency to strike twice. In other words, I press the key once, and it sends out two letters. There is probably a mechanical solution to this, but I'm not familiar enough with how these things work to come up with a fix myself. Has anyone had this problem?

  • Can't login via ssh after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10

    - by user42899
I have an Ubuntu 12.04LTS instance on AWS EC2 and I upgraded it to 12.10 following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/QuantalUpgrades. After upgrading I can no longer ssh into my VM. It isn't accepting my ssh key and my password is also rejected. The VM is running, reachable, and SSH is started. The problem seems to be about the authentication part. SSH has been the only way for me to access that VM. What are my options? ubuntu@alice:~$ ssh -v -i .ssh/sos.pem [email protected].com OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1, OpenSSL 1.0.1 14 Mar 2012 debug1: Reading configuration data /home/ubuntu/.ssh/config debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: /etc/ssh/ssh_config line 19: Applying options for * debug1: Connecting to www.hostname.com [37.37.37.37] port 22. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file .ssh/sos.pem type -1 debug1: identity file .ssh/sos.pem-cert type -1 debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 debug1: match: OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 pat OpenSSH* debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0 debug1: Local version string SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT received debug1: kex: server->client aes128-ctr hmac-md5 none debug1: kex: client->server aes128-ctr hmac-md5 none debug1: sending SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_INIT debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY debug1: Server host key: RSA 33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33 debug1: Host '[www.hostname.com]:22' is known and matches the RSA host key. debug1: Found key in /home/ubuntu/.ssh/known_hosts:12 debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: Roaming not allowed by server debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey, password debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: .ssh/sos.pem debug1: read PEM private key done: type RSA debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey, password debug1: Next authentication method: password [email protected].com's password: debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey, password Permission denied, please try again.

  • nginx rewrite or internal redirection cycle

    - by gyre
Im banging my head against a table trying to figure out what is causing redirection cycle in my nginx configuration when trying to access URL which does not exist Configuration goes as follows: server { listen 127.0.0.1:8080; server_name .somedomain.com; root /var/www/somedomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/somedomain.com-access.nginx.log; error_log /var/log/nginx/somedomain.com-error.nginx.log debug; location ~* \.php.$ { # Proxy all requests with an URI ending with .php* # (includes PHP, PHP3, PHP4, PHP5...) include /etc/nginx/fastcgi.conf; } # all other files location / { root /var/www/somedomain.com; try_files $uri $uri/ ; } error_page 404 /errors/404.html; location /errors/ { alias /var/www/errors/; } #this loads custom logging configuration which disables favicon error logging include /etc/nginx/drop.conf; } this domain is a simple STATIC HTML site just for some testing purposes. I'd expect that the error_page directive would kick in in response to PHP-FPM not being able to find given files as I have fastcgi_intercept_errors on; in http block and nave error_page set up, but I'm guessing the request fails even before that somewhere on internal redirects. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Is there a way to import email from the raw email files?

    - by Chris Schmitz
I have a client who recently switched hosts. When they switched hosts they didn't backup their email and updated their configuration settings so they lost everything. However, I was able to log in to their old hosting control panel and download their mail folder. I am wondering if there is a way to extract their emails and/or contacts from the files. I'm not sure what type of files they are, there is no extension, but the folder directory is structured like this: mail/ .Drafts/ .Sent/ .Trash/ cur/ new/ theirdomain.com/ tmp/ .theiremail@theirdomain.com maildir Inside of the theirdomain.com folder, there is a folder for each account and inside of that is a folder called "cur" which has a whole bunch of files with names like 1292945327.H169813P25958.uscentral21.myserverhosts.com,S=10117/2,S and if I preview those files I can see the actual email messages inside of them but I have no idea how to get that information from those files to an email client. Anyone know of a way to work with these files? Thanks in advance for any insight you can share!

  • What sort of attack URL is this?

    - by Asker
I set up a website with my own custom PHP code. It appears that people from places like Ukraine are trying to hack it. They're trying a bunch of odd accesses, seemingly to detect what PHP files I've got. They've discovered that I have PHP files called mail.php and sendmail.php, for instance. They've tried a bunch of GET options like: http://mydomain.com/index.php?do=/user/register/ http://mydomain.com/index.php?app=core&module=global§ion=login http://mydomain.com/index.php?act=Login&CODE=00 I suppose these all pertain to something like LiveJournal? Here's what's odd, and the subject of my question. They're trying this URL: http://mydomain.com?3e3ea140 What kind of website is vulnerable to a 32-bit hex number?

  • Mac Mini's internet very slow, every other device fine (PC, iPhone, Xbox 360)

    - by alex
I recently haven't used my Mac Mini for about 5 days (however it was left on). I seem to be able to connect and get great download / upload speeds through my PC, Xbox 360, iPhone and parents' laptop. However, my Mac Mini is very slow. OS X's Mail.app is downloading mail at 0.4kbps and then dropping to 0. Skype file transfers are doing the same. Browsing the net is a terrible experience. It is taking 30 seconds or more to download basic pages. All of my devices connect wirelessly to a Netgear router / modem. I have tried giving the Mac Mini a manual IP, and renew DHCP lease, as well as flush DNS in Terminal. I have also rebooted the router / modem twice, and the Mac Mini twice. Do you know what could be causing this? Thanks

  • Sublime Text 2 'text bubbling'?

    - by Alex Mcp
In vim and Notepad++ I have an awesome feature either mapped or built in that I've seen called text bubbling. I know about the Sublime documentation for mapping my own, but wanted to make sure I wasn't duplicating functionality: Basically when I have either block of text selected, or just a cursor on a line, I push (ctrl + up/down) or some other mapping, and the text is moved up or down, in a block, and the rest of the text 'flows' around it. Is this a native feature in Sublime Text or should I script it in?

  • How to open existing VMs in VirtualBox?

    - by Alex R
VirtualBox seems to lack the obvious "File - Open" menu option. Frustrating! More details... I recently got a new workstation and I moved my VirtualBox and VMWare Player VMs from the old PC to the new. The VMWare Player VMs are a snap... you go to "File - Open a Virtual Machine...", find the .vmx files from the old PC, and voila! It's up and running. All the required files apparently are in the same folder. With VirtualBox there just doesn't seem to be a way to do that. Looks like VMs are tied to the original host in some magical/invisible way like registry entries, etc.

  • sendmail user unknown - debian lenny

    - by Rimian
My php's mail() function just stopped working a short while ago. It's started returning FALSE. I am not much of a sysadmin so please forgive my ignorance. I set my php.ini send_path option to: "sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i" and restarted apache. Then, I learnt how to test sendmail like so: sudo /usr/sbin/sendmail -bv mail@example.com mail@example.com... deliverable: mailer esmtp, host example.com., user mail@example.com The example email is a real mail box. I have also seen unknown user messages in the mail log. Can anyone please help me debug this? Cheers, Rim

  • Apache misbehaving (returning 404s)

    - by OC2PS
CentOS 6.4 64-bit Apache 2.4.6 PHP-FPM 5.5.4 Homepage from root loads fine http://csillamvilag.com But all other pages return 404 (CMS is WordPress). I am also able to access and log into WordPress backend. Additionally, Menalto Gallery 3 seems to be loading ok http://csillamvilag.com/kepek/ but all OpenCart pages return 404 http://csillamvilag.com/shop/ or http://csillamvilag.com/shop/hu/ Apache is running as user apache. All relevant WordPress and OpenCart files are owned by user apache. I have a suspicion that it might be a rewrite issue, but I checked .htaccess for both WordPress and OpenCart, and they look ok. e.g. WordPress/root .htaccess is: # BEGIN WordPress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule>

  • Apache directive for authenticated users?

    - by Alex Leach
Using Apache 2.2, I would like to use mod_rewrite to redirect un-authenticated users to use https, if they are on http.. Is there a directive or condition one can test for whether a user is (not) authenticated? For example, I could have set up the restricted /foo location on my server:- <Location "/foo/"> Order deny, allow # Deny everyone, until authenticated... Deny from all # Authentication mechanism AuthType Basic AuthName "Members only" # AuthBasicProvider ... # ... Other authentication stuff here. # Users must be valid. Require valid-user # Logged-in users authorised to view child URLs: Satisfy any # If not SSL, respond with HTTP-redirect RewriteCond ${HTTPS} off RewriteRule /foo/?(.*)$ https://${SERVER_NAME}/foo/$2 [R=301,L] # SSL enforcement. SSLOptions FakeBasicAuth StrictRequire SSLRequireSSL SSLRequire %{SSL_CIPHER_USEKEYSIZE} >= 128 </Location> The problem here is that every file, in every subfolder, will be encrypted. This is quite unnecessary, but I see no reason to disallow it. What I would like is the RewriteRule to only be triggered during authentication. If a user is already authorised to view a folder, then I don't want the RewriteRule to be triggered. Is this possible? EDIT: I am not using any front-end HTML here. This is only using Apache's built-in directory browsing interface and its in-built authentication mechanisms. My <Directory> config is: <Directory ~ "/foo/"> Order allow, deny Allow from all AllowOverride None Options +Indexes +FollowSymLinks +Includes +MultiViews IndexOptions +FancyIndexing IndexOptions +XHTML IndexOptions NameWidth=* IndexOptions +TrackModified IndexOptions +SuppressHTMLPreamble IndexOptions +FoldersFirst IndexOptions +IgnoreCase IndexOptions Type=text/html </Directory>

  • Cannot send email outside of network using Postfix

    - by infmz
I've set up an Ubuntu server with Request Tracker following this guide (the section about inbound mail would be relevant). However, while I'm able to send mail to other users within the network/domain, I cannot seem to reach beyond - such as my personal accounts etc. Now I have no idea what is causing this, I thought that all it takes is for the system to fetch mail through our exchange server and be able to deliver in the same way. However, that hasn't been the case. I have found another server setup in a similar fashion (CentOS 5, Request Tracker but using Sendmail), however it is a dated server and whoever's built it has kindly left no documentation on how it works, making it a pain to use that as a reference system! :) At one point, I was told I need to set up a relay between the local server's email add and our AD server but this didn't seem to work. Sorry, I know next to nothing about mailservers, my colleagues nothing about Linux so it's a hard one for me. Thank you! I use Chrome --but can switch to another browser if the feature I am about to describe is available. Browsing history, AFAIK in Chrome is sorted exclusively chronologically. Very often however, I will be working on a particular task on my laptop and have multiple (read: a lot) of tabs open in a single Chrome window for that task. Before finishing that task, I may need to work on something else --so I will open another window and minimize the other one, and start researching an entirely different issue. Over the course of a day, I may end up with 10-15 windows with many tabs each. This raises two issues: (a) memory usage and (b) quickly switching between the most relevant two or three windows. I solve these two problems like any regular guy probably would --closing windows. I want to be able to reopen specific windows that I have closed, such that the tabs that were open in that window at the time the window was closed will reopen. Ideally, closed windows will be sorted by the time they were closed and identified by the tabs that were open (even more ideally, I would be able to name these windows (contemporaneously or in the history menu)). Now that I describe this, what I am asking is: does any browser offer the ability to "save and close" windows? (This is distinct from an option to auto-restore tabs upon reopening the browser) Thank you.

  • RAID driver to choose for slipstreaming XP installation on ASUS P5S800

    - by alex
I'm trying to install Windows XP on my new SATA drive but I need to first slipstream the drivers with nLite. I've done this before, but not on an ASUS P5S800 - VM motherboard. I'm not used to the number of choices it gives me for drivers in SiS chipsets. When I look through the folder that I downloaded from ASUS for the RAID driver, I see many folders with different versions of the driver. Here are the folders or versions given. 180ob 964_180 965 966_968 What drivers do I need to add in order to get XP on my SATA disk?

  • How do I add Keynote templates/themes to the iPad Keynote application

    - by Alex
I work for a major blue-chip company that insists we do presentations in the company style. They make keynote templates available, but I don't know how to install them on the ipad. I note that some third parties now sell keynote templates for the iPad that can be downloaded and installed. How can I convert and upload my company templates into the iPad keynote application?
