    The issue is: Outlook 2013 simply will not give a preview of Word (nor Excel) docs in attachments. Never had the issue with Outlook 2010. Using Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 64bit SSD with Word 2010. I did notice that "Microsoft Word" is not listed specifically in Trust Center attachment handling, could that be part of the problem? Excel, Visio, RTF and many more are there. Update: strange, search can be performed in Word attachments... but can't preview Word file. So, Outlook can 'see' Word docs but won't let us have that preview.   • How do I debug a difficult-to-reproduce crash with no useful call stack?

    I am encountering an odd crash in our software and I'm having a lot of trouble debugging it, and so I am seeking SO's advice on how to tackle it. The crash is an access violation reading a NULL pointer: First chance exception at $00CF0041. Exception class $C0000005 with message 'access violation at 0x00cf0041: read of address 0x00000000'. It only happens 'sometimes' - I haven't managed to figure out any rhyme or reason, yet, for when - and only in the main thread. When it occurs, the call stack contains one incorrect entry: For the main thread, which this is, it should show a large stack full of other items. At this point, all other threads are inactive (mostly sitting in WaitForSingleObject or a similar function.) I have only seen this crash occur in the main thread. It always has the same call stack of one entry, in the same method at the same address. This method may or may not be related - we do use the VCL in our application. My bet, though, is that something (possibly quite a while ago) is corrupting the stack, and the address where it's crashing is effectively random. Note it has been the same address across several builds, though - it's probably not truly random. Here is what I've tried: Trying to reproduce it reliably at a certain point. I have found nothing that reproduces it every time, and a couple of things that occasionally do, or do not, for no apparent reason. These are not 'narrow' enough actions to narrow it down to a particular section of code. It may be timing related, but at the point the IDE breaks in, other threads are usually doing nothing. I can't rule out a threading problem, but think it's unlikely. Building with extra debugging statements (extra debug info, extra asserts, etc.) After doing so, the crash never occurs. Building with Codeguard enabled. After doing so, the crash never occurs and Codeguard shows no errors. My questions: 1. How do I find what code caused the crash? How do I do the equivalent of walking back up the stack? 2. What general advice do you have for how to trace the cause of this crash? I am using Embarcadero RAD Studio 2010 (the project mostly contains C++ Builder code and small amounts of Delphi.)

    I asked this before and got no where so i'm asking again as i'm now desperate!!     I'm trying to run a Java application I wrote to subscribe to a CORBA event service. It runs OK on my Windows machine, but as soon as I deploy it to the UNIX server, it gives me an org.omg.CORBA.NO_IMPLEMENT exception. Any ideas as to why this might be happening? I'm using JacORB on my Windows machine and passing VM arguments to initialize the client ORB, but I'm not sure how to do that on UNIX and if it's even necessary. Thanks in advance!

    Does a destructor get called if the app crashes? If it's an unhandled exception I'm guessing it does, but what about more serious errors, or something like a user killing the application process? And a few more potentially dumb questions: what happens to all the objects in an app when the app exits and all finalizers have been executed - do the objects get garbage collected or are they somehow all "unloaded" with the process or appdomain? is the garbage collector part of each application (runs in the same process) or is it independent?

    We have noticed that when using nginx internal 301 and 302 handling, nginx will serve a small document body with the appropriate Location: ... header. Something along the lines of (in html): 301 redirect - nginx. As appropriate in the above behaviour, a content-type text/html and content-length header is also sent. We do a lot of 302 and some 301 redirects, the above behaviour is wasted bandwidth in our opinion. Any way to disable this behaviour? One idea that crossed our mind was to set error_page 301 302 to an empty text file. We have not tested this yet, but I am assuming even with the above, the content-type and content-length (0) headers will be sent. So, is there a clean way to send a "body-less" 301/302 redirect with nginx?

  • Problem with tcp server when converting to service

    Hello lads, I'm working on monitoring some object (cdr-packets). I'm setting up a tcp-server and am listening on port 50043 for the packages. The program as a console application is working just fine, my server is working like it should and i'm receiving the packets. When i try to use it as a service, i cannot seem to get a client connected to my server. Is there something i need to change to deploy this as a service? I get the list working with static items but I can't get it to work with the json items.
