  • PHP Speed - Many Echos vs Building a String

    - by Chris
    Wondering if anyone knows if either of these methods would produce an output faster: Method 1 for ($i=1;$i<99999;$i++) { echo $i, '<br>'; } or Method 2 for ($i=1;$i<99999;$i++) { $string .= $i . '<br>'; } echo $string; Thanks for any input you have.

  • PHP: Accessing an object property with a variable.

    - by Peter
    Let's assume I have an array of object properties I'd like to access: $properties = array('foo', 'bar'); I'd like to loop through the object and access these properties dynamically (specifically, I'm trying to dynamically handle missing JSON elements based on an array of expected elements): foreach ($data as $item) { foreach ($properties as $property) { if (empty($item->{$property})) { // Do something } } } Each $item in $data should have the properties 'foo' and 'bar'. If empty(), I'll handle them. I'm trying to get the loop (in line 3) to access $item-{'foo'} and $item-{'bar'}, but it's not working. Any idea why? Thanks!

  • PHP: Check if 0?

    - by tarnfeld
    Hi, I am using a class which returns me the value of a particular row and cell of an excel spreadsheet. To build up an array of one column I am counting the rows and then looping through that number with a for() loop and then using the $array[] = $value to set the incrementing array object's value. This works great if none of the values in a cell are 0. The class returns me a number 0 so it's nothing to do with the class, I think it's the way I am looping through the rows and then assigning them to the array... I want to carry through the 0 value because I am creating graphs with the data afterwards, here is the code I have. // Get Rainfall $rainfall = array(); for($i=1;$i<=$count;$i++) { if($data->val($i,2) != 'Rainfall') // Check if not the column title { $rainfall[] = $data->val($i,2); } } For your info $data is the excel spreadsheet object and the method $data->val(row,col) is what returns me the value. In this case I am getting data from column 2. Screenshot of spreadsheet http://cl.ly/1Dmy Thanks! All help is very much appreciated!

  • Minimum 4 Characters or Show Nothing - PHP

    - by ali
    Hi, I want to show up only words with minimum 4 Characters, actually I can limit the hits and show only words with min. 100 hits - but how can I set a min. character length? thank you! function sm_list_recent_searches($before = '', $after = '', $count = 20) { // List the most recent successful searches. global $wpdb, $table_prefix; $count = intval($count); $results = $wpdb->get_results( "SELECT `terms`, `datetime` FROM `{$table_prefix}searchmeter_recent` WHERE 100 < `hits` ORDER BY `datetime` DESC LIMIT $count"); if (count($results)) { foreach ($results as $result) { echo '<a href="'. get_settings('home') .   • PHP to make vars and values part of array

    - by Chris
    I currently have this function to search and replace in a text file. // Input $ect = array('Visssa', 'Lisssa', 'her'); // Placeholders in the file $put = array('lname', 'fname', 'hisher'); // Replace the placeholders $oput = str_replace($put, $ct, 'tmpfile.txt'); This is not the full program but the idea is replace the values found in tmpfile.txt with the ones found in the $etc array. And it works flawlessly. But, what I need to do is get all passed vars (get/post) and then make the arrays so that the var is the value to replace and the value is the value to replace it with. So, if I sent the url http://xyz.com/?lname=tom&ogre=yes All instances of lname in the file would be replaces with tom and all instances of ogre would be replaced with yes. So somehow it just gets any/all variables passed in get/post and then the arrays showed above would cause the var to be replaced by the value in the file.

  • PHP: Parsing of a given form input variable

    - by Jaime Cross
    How would I go about parsing incoming form data where the name changes based on section of site like: <input type="radio" name="Motorola section" value="Ask a question"> where 'Motorola section may be that, or Verizon section, or Blackberry section, etc. I do not have any control over changing the existing forms unfortunately, so must find a way to work with what is there. Basically, I need to be able to grab both the name="" data as well as its coresponding value="" data to be able to populate the email that gets sent properly.

  • PHP - Can you help change this function slightly?

    - by Joe
    I have the following function I modified based off someone elses function: function showCombinations($string, $nameString, $linkParts, $i){ $wordDivider = "/"; //the divider between the words/values if ($i >= count($linkParts)){ echo "<a href='".trim($string)."'>".trim($nameString)."</a>, "; } else { foreach ($linkParts[$i] as $currentTrait){ if ($currentTrait['name']=="urltext"){ $currentNameStringName=""; //ignore } else { $currentNameStringName=$currentTrait['name']; } if ($nameString!=""){ $currentNameString=$nameString." - ".$currentNameStringName; } else { $currentNameString=$nameString.$currentNameStringName; } showCombinations($string.$currentTrait['value'].$wordDivider, $currentNameString, $linkParts, $i + 1); } } } showCombinations('', '', $linkParts, 0); All I need to change this to do is, instead of "ECHO", I want it to build up the combination and so I can do: $result = showCombinations('', '', $linkParts, 0); echo $result; I need it this way because I have to modify that $result, not just echo it.

    I'm trying to convert an array of products into a CSV file, but it doesn't seem to be going to plan. The CSV file is one long line, here is my code: for($i=0;$i<count($prods);$i++) { $sql = "SELECT * FROM products WHERE id = '".$prods[$i]."'"; $result = $mysqli->query($sql); $info = $result->fetch_array(); } $header = ''; for($i=0;$i<count($info);$i++) { $row = $info[$i]; $line = ''; for($b=0;$b<count($row);$b++) { $value = $row[$b]; if ( ( !isset( $value ) ) || ( $value == "" ) ) { $value = "\t"; } else { $value = str_replace( '"' , '""' , $value ); $value = '"' . $value . "\n"; } $data = str_replace( "\r" , "" , $data ); if ( $data == "" ) { $data = "\n(0) Records Found!\n"; } header("Content-type: application/octet-stream"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=your_desired_name.xls"); header("Pragma: no-cache"); header("Expires: 0"); print "$data"; Also, the header doesn't force a download. I've been copy and pasting the output and saving as .csv

  • Unique text field in MySQL and php

    - by Jonathan
    I've created a salt using; md5(rand(0,10000000)); (there is probably a better way?) There doesn't seem to be possible to make a text field unique in MYSQL. So how do I check if the salt has already been used for a previous user? Or should I generate the salt based on the current date/time? as it is impossible for 2 users to register at exactly the same time correct?

  • Speed up csv export when using php from mysql database query

    - by John
    Ok, so i've got a web system (built on codeigniter & running on mysql) that allows people to query a database of postal address data by making selections in a series of forms until they arrive at the selection that want, pretty standard stuff. They can then buy that information and download it via that system. The queries run very fast, but when it comes to applying that query to the database,and exporting it to csv, once the datasets get to around the 30,000 record mark (each row has around 40 columns of which about 20 are all populated with on average 20 chars of data per cell) it can take 5 or so minutes to export to csv. So, my question is, what is the main cause for the slowness? Is it that the resultset of data from the query is so large, that it is running into memory issues? Therefore should i allow much more memory to the process? Or, is there a much more efficient way of exporting to csv from a mysql query that i'm not doing? Should i save the contents of the query to a temp table and simply export the temp table to csv? Or am i going about this all wrong? Also, is the fact that i'm using Codeigniters Active Record for this prohibitive due to the way that it stores the resultset? Any advice is welcome! Thank you for reading!
