  • Django deployment: PIL and virtualenv problem

    Hey guys, I'm deploying a Django site on my Vserver (Debian Lenny) and I'm having problem with PIL. I'm using virtualenv as well. When I'm in the virtualenv and type pip install -U PIL everything installs fine and I get this: *** TKINTER support not available --- JPEG support available --- ZLIB (PNG/ZIP) support available *** FREETYPE2 support not available *** LITTLECMS support not available And when I go in to the shell (python manage.py shell) and type from PIL import Image I get no error. But when I use it in the Django project (uploading an image in the admin for example) I just get No module named PIL I don't think it's a problem with the model because it works fine on the development machine but here is part of the class: class Category(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=255, verbose_name="Name") logo = models.ImageField(upload_to='images/category/', blank=True, null=True, verbose_name="Logo") I'm going out of my mind about this. I feel like this is a very common issue but I've been trying to google this all day with no luck. Thanks in advance, AndriJan

    I have a Django model that relies on a tuple. I'm wondering what the best practice is for refering to constants within that tuple for my Django program. Here, for example, I'd like to specify "default=0" as something that is more readable and does not require commenting. Any suggestions? Status = ( (-1, 'Cancelled'), (0, 'Requires attention'), (1, 'Work in progress'), (2, 'Complete'), ) class Task(models.Model): status = models.IntegerField(choices=Status, default=0) # Status is 'Requires attention' (0) by default. EDIT: If possible I'd like to avoid using a number altogether. Somehow using the string 'Requires attention' instead would be more readable.

    I've hit a snag. I am trying to use WatiN to upload a file. I can load the upload box, but it quickly disappears. The last line of my code at the moment is: ie.FileUpload(Find.ById("profile_file")).Click(); It loads the dialog to select a picture but disappears. Is it possible to set the path of the box automatically example, load "C:/Desktop/image.jpg"? Also, is it possible to wait for the upload to complete before continuing? Help is much appreciated.   • Django: UserProfile with Unique Foreign Key in Django Admin

    Hi, I have extended Django's User Model using a custom user profile called UserExtension. It is related to User through a unique ForeignKey Relationship, which enables me to edit it in the admin in an inline form! I'm using a signal to create a new profile for every new user: def create_user_profile(sender, instance, created, **kwargs): if created: try: profile, created = UserExtension.objects.get_or_create(user=instance) except: pass post_save.connect(create_user_profile, sender=User) (as described here for example: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/44109/extending-the-user-model-with-custom-fields-in-django) The problem is, that, if I create a new user through the admin, I get an IntegritiyError on saving "column user_id is not unique". It doesnt seem that the signal is called twice, but i guess the admin is trying to save the profile AFTERWARDS? But I need the creation through signal if I create a new user in other parts of the system!

A little background: I use PowerShell on windows xp at work and I set a bunch of useful shortcuts in Microsoft.PowerShell_profile.ps1 in My Documents, trying to emulate Mac environment inspired by Ryan Bates's shortcuts I have things like: Set-Alias rsc Rails-Console function Rails-Console {Invoke-Expression "ruby script/console"} Which works just fine when in command prompt I say: rsc #it calls the proper command However this doesn't work properly Set-Alias rsg Rails-Generate function Rails-Generate {Invoke-Expression "ruby script/generate"} So when I do : rsg model User which is supposed to call ruby script/generate model User all it calls is ruby script/generate #Dumping my params So how would I properly modify my functions to take params I send to functions? The report is having four parts as - Project Info1 (A PDF Table of variable height) Project Info2 (A PDF Table of variable height) Requestor Info (A PDF Table of Fixed height) Location Info (A PDF Table of Fixed height) The top two information are of variable height and they can acquire certain pages. The other two are of fixed size which comes at last. I want to move the last (one or both) boxes to the next page if there is no space available to fit those boxes in current page. If space for one box is available then place one to the current page and move other box to the next table. Is there way to decide this?

    Hi all, Excel 2007 Hangs When Closing via .NET How to properly clean up Excel interop objects in C# How to properly clean up interop objects in C# All of these struggle with the problem that C# does not release the Excel COM objects properly after using them. There are mainly two directions of working around this issue: Kill the Excel process when Excel is not used anymore. Take care to assign each COM object used explicitly to a variable and to Marshal.ReleaseComObject all of these. Some have stated that 2 is too tedious and there is always some uncertainty whether you forget to stick to this rule at some places in the code. Still 1 seems dirty and dangerous to me, also I could imagine that in an environment with restricted access killing processes is not allowed. So I've been thinking about solving 2 by creating another proxy object model which mimics the Excel object model (for me, it would suffice to implement the objects I actually need). The principle would look as follows: Each Excel Interop class has its proxy which wraps an object of that class. The proxy releases the COM object in its destructor. The proxy mimics the interface of the Interop class (maybe by inheriting it). Any methods that usually return another COM object return a proxy instead. The other methods simply delegate the implementation to the inner COM object. Is it impossible/bad/dangerous to do the ReleaseCOMObject in the destructor? (I've only seen proposals to put it in a Dispose() rather than in a destructor - why?) If the approach makes sense, any suggestions to improve it?

    Hi, I have a .NET 2.0 class the properties of which are marked virtual.I need to use the class as a model in a MVC2 application. So, I have created a .NET 3.5 class inheriting from the .NET 2.0 class and added the DataAnnotations attributes to the overriden properties in the new class. A snippet of what I have done is below // .NET 2.0 class public class Customer { private string _firstName = ""; public virtual string FirstName { get { return _firstName; } set { _firstName = value; } } } // .NET 3.5 class public class MVCCustomer : Customer { [Required(ErrorMessage="Firstname is required")] public override string FirstName { get { return base.FirstName; } set { base.FirstName = value; } } } I have used the class as the model for a MVC2 view using the HtmlFor helpers. Serverside validation works correctly but the client side validation does not. Specifically the validation error is not displayed on the page. What am I missing, or is it only possible to do this using buddy classes. Thanks.

    I have an application that was built with MVC1 and am in the process of updating to MVC2. I have a custom DLL and BLL, of which the model objects are custom business objects that reside in a separate class library. I was using this validation library in MVC1, which worked great. It worked great, but I want to eliminate the extra plugins and use what is available. Rather than use the Enterprise Library validation attributes I have converted to using DataAnnotations and want to use jQuery validation as the client side validation. My questions are: 1) Is the MicrosoftMvcJQueryValidation JS file still required, where do I download. 2) How to you automate the validation to views that do not have models, IE Membership sign in page? 3) How to you add model errors in a custom business layer. I've tried a bunch of different things but I haven't been succesful. Any ideas?     I have a select drop-down that selects a theme for the current page the user is on: <select id="style" name="acct-stylenum"> <option value="1" selected="true">Light</option> <option value="2">Dark</option> </select> Now what I would like to do is add two divs that will also control this select menu. I would much rather have the user select between two images than a select menu. The divs are as follows: <div class="style-box light"></div> <div class="style-box dark"></div> I would like to use jQuery to make the select menu hidden but still use its input. Also I would like the divs to control the menus value and show a selected state. Please let me know the easiest way this can be done using jQuery or JavaScript. Thanks in advance. -B

    I am trying to change my comboboxes to use autocomplete so i leverage the code listed here (which worked perfectly for my dropdowns) The issue is that i also on the same page have a listbox with the following code: <%= Html.ListBox("Cars", Model.BodyParts.Select( x => new SelectListItem { Text = x.Name, Value = x.Id, Selected = Model.CarsSelected.Any(y => y.Id == x.Id) } ))%> and it appears that the jquery ui code is changing this to a autocomplete dropdown as well (as opposed to keeping it as a multi select list box) any idea how to prevent this from happening?

I have the following in my Create view: <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Year) %> I am required to return a new Car object (due to other requirements) in my HttpGet Create action in the CarController. Currently, a zero is displayed in the Year textbox because the Year property does not allow NULL. I would like to display an empty textbox in the Create view. How do I do this?

    I'm getting data where the database is hidden behind a WCF service. Is it possible to use Entity Framework in a scenario where I have custom objects coming from a web service? (No access to the external database, and no current plans for insert/update/delete logic) Starting with an empty EF model and adding an entity I get this error on compile: No mapping specified for instances of the EntitySet and AssociationSet in the EntityContainer .. Is it possible to make an entity this way, and fill it with data received from an object? (In this case a WCF, but could also be a predefined model class/xml data) If the web service retured a Customer object I could do something like this with a dataset: Make an unbound table and do a loop through the customer properties adding them to a temp row, add it with tbl_Customer.Addtbl_CustomerRow(customerRow) to get my view filled. thanks, nakori

WHY? AND CAN I DO IT ON FIRST CLICK? yes i know this already happening perfect if i put first code but i want it on my function.

    I'm building a Rails application using MongoDB as the back-end and MongoMapper as the ORM tool. Suppose in version 1, I define the following model: class SomeModel include MongoMapper::Document key :some_key, String end Later in version 2, I realize that I need a new required key on the model. So, in version 2, SomeModel now looks like this: class SomeModel include MongoMapper::Document key :some_key, String key :some_new_key, String, :required => true end How do I migrate all my existing data to include some_new_key? Assume that I know how to set a reasonable default value for all the existing documents. Taking this a step further, suppose that in version 3, I realize that I really don't need some_key at all. So, now the model looks like this class SomeModel include MongoMapper::Document key :some_new_key, String, :required => true end But all the existing records in my database have values set for some_key, and it's just wasting space at this point. How do I reclaim that space? With ActiveRecord, I would have just created migrations to add the initial values of some_new_key (in the version1 - version2 migration) and to delete the values for some_key (in the version2 - version3 migration). What's the appropriate way to do this with MongoDB/MongoMapper? It seems to me that some method of tracking which migrations have been run is still necessary. Does such a thing exist? EDITED: I think people are missing the point of my question. There are times where you want to be able to run a script on a database to change or restructure the data in it. I gave two examples above, one where a new required key was added and one where a key can be removed and space can be reclaimed. How do you manage running these scripts? ActiveRecord migrations give you an easy way to run these scripts and to determine what scripts have already been run and what scripts have not been run. I can obviously write a Mongo script that does any update on the database, but what I'm looking for is a framework like migrations that lets me track which upgrade scripts have already been run.

  • Assigning a group while adding user in django-admin

    In my application, I have models that have the Users model as a Foreign key, eg: class Doctor(models.Model): username=models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) ... In the admin site, when adding a new Doctor, I have the option of adding a new User next to the username field. This is exactly what I want, but in the dialog that opens, it asks for a username and password for the new user; I would also like to be able to assign a group to this new user. Here is what I have now: @interface MyLayer : CALayer { NSMutableDictionary* customProperties; } @property (nonatomic, copy) NSMutableDictionary* customProperties; @end And when I try to animate the key path "customProperties.roll" using CABasicAnimation and addAnimation:forKey:, it seems that the customProperties variable doesn't get copied from the model layer to the presentation layer, and the customProperties of the presentation layer appears to be nil, failing to update the value for the key "roll". Is there a way to animate values in a dictionary correctly? What is the exact relationship between a model layer and a presentation layer while being animated? Thanks!

Now: I have installed less via npm and I had heard from another post that @imports should reference the .css not the .less. In any case, I have tried the combinations of switching .less for .css in the jade and less files with no success. If you can help or have the solution I'd greatly appreciate it. Note: The jade portion works fine if I enter any ol' .css. Note2: The less compiles if I use lessc via command line.
