• Java - How to change context root of a dynamic web project in eclipse

  I have developed a dynamic web project in eclipse. Now I can access it through my browser using the following url: http://localhost:8080/MyDynamicWebApp Now I want to change the access url to http://localhost:8080/app I changed the context root from the project properties | Web Project Settings | Context Root But it is not working. The web app still has the access url as earlier. I have re-deployed the application on tomcat, re-started the tomcat and have done everything that should be done but the access url is the same as earlier. I found that there were no server.xml file attached with the WARfile. The how the tomcat is determining that the context root of my web app is /MyDynamicWebApp and is allowing me to access the application through that url

• Random number generation in MVC applications

  What is the correct way of generating random numbers in an ASP.NET MVC application if I need exactly one number per request? According to MSDN, in order to get randomness of sufficient quality, it is necessary to generate multiple numbers using a single System.Random object, created once. Since a new instance of a controller class is created for each request in MVC, I cannot use a private field initialized in the controller's constructor for the Random object. So in what part of the MVC app should I create and store the Random object? Currently I store it in a static field of the controller class and lazily initialize it in the action method that uses it: public class HomeController : Controller { ... private static Random random; ... public ActionResult Download() { ... if (random == null) random = new Random(); ... } } Since the "random" field can be accessed by multiple instances of the controller class, is it possible for its value to become corrupted if two instances attempt to initialize it simultaneously? And one more question: I know that the lifetime of statics is the lifetime of the application, but in case of an MVC app what is it? Is it from IIS startup till IIS shutdown?

  I've been trying to find resources and guidelines for implementing authentication and authorization in multiple layered architectures (C#), but haven't found any "best practices" or patterns to use. And I figured, that there must be some patterns for this, as it is a pretty important area? The application that we're developing, is layered traditionally, having data layer (Entity Framework 4) repositories domain layer service layer (can be WCF, with data transfer objects) multiple clients consuming the WCF service (ASP.NET [MVC], Silverlight, WPF) and clients accessing a service layer directly (no WCF) Are there books/articles/blogs that dig deeply into this area? Primarily about authorization such as handling multiple roles and attributes attached to users). It doesn’t have to be specific for the .NET Framework, but it would be preferred.

• How we run a .NET 32-bit application in a 64-bit Windows server?

  We are installing a third party application in one of our 64-bit Windows servers. This application apparently was build with the compiler option set to choose the platform at run time. When we run the application it gives us an error: System.BadImageFormatException: is not a valid Win32 application. I have seen in MSDN forums that in order to fix this error I have to build the application set to 32-bit, and that way it will run fine on a 64-bit server. I check on other StackOverflow links Other Posts. How to get around this situation? For everyone that wants to know more information: The application is running fine in a 32-bit test server. IIS version 6 using SQL Server Express 2005 On the Web Service Extension there are both Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll and Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll

I want if user has selected some text in any control of any form of my application and click on cut/copy/paste button on toolbar operation get performed accordingly. i m using C#.net's sendkeys.send("^c") on click of copy button but it doesn't work...   Hi Friends, I have deployed 3 web parts on a site on Sharepoint server. In my 3rd web part, I have a functionality which needs a button click. Now when I click that button, the whole page gets refreshed and I have to scroll down to see the change that has happened due to clicking that functionality in 3rd web part. Is there any way by which when i click on any point of the web part, the page is reloaded but the control point or the focus remains to the same position where I clicked... Help me out.   When I drag 'My iPhone App' application's file into iTunes it has proper view. Rounded corners and transparent background. Then I close iTunes and open it again. Corners are still rounded but...   I have a web site that built on Visual studio 2008 and i need to run it from my computer (Win 7 Ultimate) as a server I tried to publish it to IIS and this is simply not working and i have the flowing error : Error Summary HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. Config Error This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false". any one can help?

• Mavericks: Safari does not login in into web services

  Since when I upgraded ML to Mavericks Safari is no longer able to log me into Facebook. When I go to the login page it suggests me the correct credentials, I hit the Login button, the page refreshes but nothing happens, like if the credentials where empty. Firefox works perfectly, I even logged out and back in to make sure the credentials are the same that Safari suggests, and so they are. Needless to say for a different user on the same Mavericks Safari logs in correctly. The same happens with most web pages that need a login, web mails for instances, I have tow accounts on different webmail providers and none of them works. Of course using the same mail services with POP3 works fine. Even on this very site I cannot post a thing with Safari, I'm going to switch to Firefox to be able to post this question. Again, Firefox or a different user are OK. Do you have any idea/suggestion?

  Hi, I have a problem whereby I cannot debug a c# silverlight application project that is hosted from within a visual basic web application. I add breakpoints to the main App constructor and the symbols are loaded ok but my breakpoints are never hit. I have concluded that it is a vb/c# interop problem as to test i did the following. Created a new c# web application project Added a c# silverlight application Added a new vb web application project Added references to the silverlight project from both web apps set a breakpoint in App.xaml.cs constructor if i run the c# webapp the break points are hit whereas if i run the vb webapp they are not. has anyone come across this before or can anyone suggest a solution please?
