• Translate an exception into 404 from Application_Error

  Hi, First of all, quickly what exactly I want to achieve: translate particular exception into the HTTP 404 so the ASP.NET can handle it further. When it is on then it never redirects to the page specified in customErrors: <error statusCode="404" redirect="404.html"/>. I also tried to raise new HttpExcepton(404, "Not Found") from the handler but then the response code is 200 which I don't understand why. So the questions are: What is the proper way of translating AnException into HTTP 404 response? How does customErrors section work when handling exceptions in Application_Error? Why throwing HttpException(404) renders (blank) page with success (200) status? Thanks, Dmitriy.

• Rsync: windows 7, synology: login error and permission denied error

  Good day to all of you all, I'm running into strange/stupid errors, and I hope anybody would be so kind to help me out. I have to admit, I am by no means a guru, so please bear with me :-) Situation: -Synology NAS (runs Linux), and Windows 7 desktop (1 normal/restricted user Lisa and 1 admin user). - Data from W7 desktop to be rsynced to synology: /volume1/home/Lisa/Backup - Rsync command: c:\cygwin\bin\rsync -avz /cygdrive/e/Lisa/ [email protected]:/volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup - I've set up ssh per these two threads: a. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/102 b. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/112 Now the horrors begin: - root is allowed to run the rsync succesfully, however, he doesn't login automatically (so I can not use rsync in W7 batchscripts, which is of course required). - Lisa is allowed to login automatically but he can not succesfully finish the rsync command because of permission errors: rsync change dir /volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup failed: permissions denied. This happens for each and every file and subdir rsync tries to create. However, the main directory (Backup) is created. When I try to copy files from windows explorer to the directory 'Backup' using the very same user Lisa everything goes smoothly. So, obviously, there is a permission problem somewhere; either my rsync-command isn't correct, or the folder permissions for homes/Lisa aren't correct (but, then again, Windows 7 copies files to that folder without any problems, so that does make me believe the homes/Lisa-permissions don't appear to be the problem). I also tried adding: --chmod=Dugo+x --chmod=ugo+r which I found somewhere on the web, to the rsync-command, but this didn't solve any problem and gave the exact errors. Would anybody please please help me on how to fix this? I am utterly frustrated about this, because I have been trying for 1 month to get everything to work and it simply doesn't work. I bought the big Synology to end the horrors of 20 external USB-disks for once and for all (we have many pictures and home vids of our deceased dogs and want to watch these, the horrors being 'what material is on what disk'). I'll gladly return the favour of somebody helping me out by buying you a nice beer (paypal), if you could end my misery. I am not extremely skilled on Linux (not at all :-( ) so if you could give an extra word when possible so I understand what to do, I'd be very grateful. • Is '@' Error Suppression a Valid Technique for Testing for an Optional Array Key?

  Rarst and I were debating offline about the use of the '@' error suppression operator in PHP, specifically for use to test for existence of "optional" array keys, i.e. array keys that are being used as a switch here a their lack of existence in the array is functionally equivalent to the array having the key with a value equaling false. Here is pseudo-code for this scenario: function do_something( $args = array() ) { if ( @$args['switch'] ) { // Do something with this switch } // continue on... } vs. this approach: function do_something( $args = array() ) { if ( ! empty( $args['switch'] ) && $args['switch'] ) { // Do something with this switch } // continue on... } Of course in most use-cases, suppressing errors would not be A Good Thing(tm). However in this use-case where an array is passed with an optional element, it seems to me that it is actually a very good technique but I could be wrong and would like to hear other's opinions on the subject before I make up my mind. I do know that there are alleged performance hits for using the former approach but I'd like to know how they compare with the alternative and if they performance hits really matter in real world scenarios? P.S. I decided to post this because, after debating this offline with Rarst, he asked a more general question here on Programmers but didn't actually give a detailed example of the specific use-case we were debating. And since I'm pretty sure he'll want to use the out-of-context answers on that other question as justification for why the above is "bad" I decided I needed to get opinions on this specific use-case.

• Using default parameters for 404 error (PHP with mvc design)?

  I have a custom made Framework (written in PHP). It all works very good, but i have some doubts about a certain thing. Right now when a user call this url for example: http://host.com/user/edit/12 Which would resolve to: user = userController edit = editAction() in userController 12 = treated as a param But suppose the controller 'userController' doesn't exist. Then i could throw a 404. But on the other hand, the url could also be used as params for the indexController (which is the default controller). So in that case: controller = indexController user = could be an action in indexController, otherwise treated as a param edit = treated as a param 12 = treated as a param That is actually how it works right now in my framework. So basically, i never throw a 404. I could ofcourse say that only params can be given if the controller name is explicitly named in the URL. So if i want the above url: http://host.com/user/edit/12 To be invoked by the indexController, in the indexAction. Then i specifically have to tell what controller and action it uses in the URL. So the URL should become: http://host.com/index/index/user/edit/12 index = indexController index (2nd one) = the action method user = treated as a param edit = treated as a param 12 = treated as a param That way, when a controller doesn't exist, i don't reroute everything as a param to the index controller and simply throw a 404 error. Now my question is, which one is more preffered? Should i allow both options to be configurable in a config file? Or should i always use one of them. Simply because that's the only and best way to do it?

• aapt not found when building new Android app in NetBeans

  I just installed NetBeans and the Android SDK following the instructions here. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic). NetBeans is 6.7.1. The Android SDK is version 7. • No Matching Function Error for inserting into a list in c++

  I am getting an error when I try to insert an item into a list (in C++). The error is that there is no matching function for call to the insert(). I also tried push_front() but got the same error.   I have a simple cpp file which uses GIO. And the documentation http://www.gtk.org/api/2.6/glib/glib-IO-Channels.html, said I only need to include , which I did. Can you please tell me how to resolve my error? One thing I can think of is I am doing this in a cpp file. But g_io_add_watch is a c function? Thank you for any help. I have spent hours on this but did not get anywhere.

• How do I work around the GCC "error: cast from ‘SourceLocation*’ to ‘int’ loses precision" error when compiling cmockery.c?

  I need to add unit tests using Cmockery to an existing build environment that uses as hand-crafted Makefile. So I need to figure out how to build cmockery.c (without automake). When I run: g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DPIC -I ../cmockery-0.1.2 -I /usr/include/malloc -c ../cmockery-0.1.2/cmockery.c -o obj/cmockery.o I get a long list of errors like this: ../cmockery-0.1.2/cmockery.c: In function ‘void initialize_source_location(SourceLocation*)’: ../cmockery-0.1.2/cmockery.c:248: error: cast from ‘SourceLocation*’ to ‘int’ loses precision Here are lines 247:248 of cmockery.c: static void initialize_source_location(SourceLocation * const location) { assert_true(location); assert_true is defined on line 154 of cmockery.h: #define assert_true(c) _assert_true((int)(c), #c, __FILE__, __LINE__) So the problem (as the error states) is GCC doesn't like the cast from ‘SourceLocation*’ to ‘int’. I can build Cmockery using ./configure and make (on Linux, and on Mac OS X if I export CFLAGS=-I/usr/include/malloc first), without any errors. I've tried looking at the command-line that compiles cmockery.c when I run make (after ./configure): gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I./src -I./src -Isrc/google -I/usr/include/malloc -MT libcmockery_la-cmockery.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/libcmockery_la-cmockery.Tpo -c src/cmockery.c -fno-common -DPIC -o .libs/libcmockery_la-cmockery.o ...but I don't see any options that might work around this error. In "error: cast from 'void*' to 'int' loses precision", I see I could change (int) in cmockery.h to (intptr_t). And I've confirmed that works. But since I can build Cmockery with ./configure and make, there must be a way to get it to build without modifying the source.

• Flash Security Error Accessing URL with crossdomain.xml

  Hello, I recently deployed a Flash application to a server, and am now experiencing errors when making HTTPService requests. I have put what I believe to be the most permissive crossdomain.xml possible in the wwwroot folder, and still get the errors. Interestingly enough, the error only seems to occur when the request is made from a direct user interaction (i.e. button click). The application makes other requests that are initiated by other means(i.e creationComplete) , and they seem to work as expected. Anyone see anything wrong with the crossdomain.xml, or have any other suggestions? • Javascript error when attempting to open a modal window in a modal window

  The application is running on a windows server 2003 box using asp.net 2.0 and is an IE specific web app. There is a button that opens a form in an iframe using showModalDialog(...) from a function call located in the javascript. Here is an example of the fucntion: function ShowBusinessHoursSubForm( source ) { var retval = window.showModalDialog("htm/" + locLocaleID + "/SubFormHostFrame.htm", source, "dialogWidth:265px;dialogHeight:261px;help:no;scroll:no;status:no;"); } The host frame is loading an aspx page which contains the actual form that is being used. On the form that is opened there is a button that, when clicked, submits changed to the form. However, if no changed were made before the form was submitted, another modal window pops up stating that there were no changed to the form. This modal window is opened through registration of some javascript in the button click event. Also, depending on what server (we have many servers for testing all with windows server 2003) the error may not occur on another computer either. These computers are running the same software version using the same version of IE with the same settings. I'm inclined to believe that there is some configuration issue somewhere, but with the settings being the same it is hard to tell. I cannot really change how the app works or the technologies used either. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this?

  I copied my ClickOnce deployment to my C:/Inetpub/ folder on my webserver and I deleted my Virtual directory. I deleted the WpfApplication1 folder beneath wwwroot in Win Explorer. Then I turned on Web Sharing for this folder. Then I viewed my IIS Manager and this new Share name appeared under wwwroot. So now under Inetpub folder on my web server I have the following directory path: C:\Inetpub\WpfApplication1\ with contents: Application Files publish.htm setup.exe WpfApplication1.application Next, I remapped both the publishing and installation URL's for the project to http://myserver/WpfApplication1/ And I clicked Publish Now. But after I performed a Publish Now operation, I got the following error on my development server (D610-M): Error 1 Failed to connect to 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/' with the following error: Unable to create the Web site 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/'. The Web server does not appear to have any authentication methods enabled. It asked for user authentication, but did not send a WWW-Authenticate header. 1 1 WpfApplication1 On my webserver, when I click Browse from the IIS Manager on the WpfApplication1 directory, it shows me the Install page. But after I click the Browse button, it returns an error which says: The remote name could not be resolved: 'd610-m' (D610-M is the name of my development server). How do I fix this?
