  • Easiest way to replace preinstalled Windows 8 with new hard drive with Windows 7

    There are all kinds of questions and answers relevant moving Windows 8 to a new hard drive. I'm not seeing anything quite applicable to my situation. I have a new, unopened, unbooted notebook with pre-installed Windows 8. I will be replacing the hard drive before ever booting, unless that is not possible for some reason. I want to "downgrade" to Windows 7 Pro, and I want a clean installation. To do so legitimately, I apparently either need to: Upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro using Windows 8 Pro Pack, then downgrade; or Just install a newly-licensed copy of Windows 7 Pro. (Let me know if I've missed an option.) Installation media is likely not a problem, though if I need something vendor-specific that I cannot otherwise download, that could present an issue (Asus notebook, if that matters). If I could, I would just buy the Pro Pack upgrade, swap the hard drive (without ever booting), then install Windows 7 Pro directly on the new hard drive, using the Pro Pack key for activation. Will this work? Are there any activation issues? Edited to clarify, as some comments and answers indicate confusion: Here is, ideally, what I want to do: Before ever powering on the notebook, remove the current hard drive. Replace this hard drive with a new, blank hard drive. Install a clean copy of Windows 7 Pro on this new, blank hard drive. Unless I have no choice to accomplish the end result (a clean install of Win7 Pro on the newly-installed, previously-blank hard drive), I am not wanting to: Install Windows 7 "over" the current Windows 8 install (after upgrading to Win8 Pro). That would involve using the currenly-installed hard drive. I want to use a new, different hard drive. Copy the Win8 install to the new hard drive, then install Windows 7 "over" that installation. Install Windows 7 "over" the current Windows 8 install (after upgrading to Win8 Pro), then copy the installation to the new hard drive. If I have to use one of those three options, I will, but only if there is no other choice. Please note that this question is not about licensing: I will purchase the necessary license(s) to accomplish this procedure legally (apparently either Win8 Pro Pack or Win7 Pro -- the former currently appears less expensive).

    I am running Mac 10.4 and have been using MAMP PRO to host several websites I manage. Now that I have installed FileMaker Pro Server, it forces me to turn Web Sharing on in System Preference. So is it possible to either replace Apache with MAMP PRO's version? Or is it possible to get FileMaker Pro to use MAMP instead of Web Sharing? If so, how can I make it happen? Also, with FileMaker Instant Web Publishing, how , how can I make my domain link directly to where FileMaker publishes it? So what I want to be able to do is type http:///mydomain.com and it direct to mydomain.com:591/FMI/IWP/

    we have a website for last 5 months and we did not used slug at bottom level elements so urls was like /apps/webmasters/badges/1100 would it make sense to add name to the URL after that point and redirect to the new ones ? I am interested in building more search terms. and increase page ranks ..... /apps/webmasters/badges/1100 - redirect and served at /apps/webmasters/badges/1100-supporter Or should I keep old URLs as is and create new urls with slugs.     I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on MacBook Pro 15" 2010 (MacBookPro6,2) and I would like to use the integrated Intel graphics instead of the dedicated Nvidia graphics Ubuntu boots with on this machine. I am booting with UEFI, not REFIT or similar. I managed to switch to UEFI with the help of this page. This wiki page also contains tips on switching to Intel graphics which include some (for me) cryptic boot commands to grub. However if I follow the guide, my display stays just black. Currently, I am only looking for solution to use Intel graphics for Ubuntu to save power and keep my MacBook cool. Dynamic switching or stuff like that is not required.

    Well, I have to say that Unity is a really nice thing that can save one a dozen of hours on coding (letting instantly work on gameplay). But what's the idea of forcing (EULA) any party, which made over 100k last fiscal year, to purchase Pro instead of using normal edition!? It feels that this kind of licensing provides hidden benefits to rich guys over me, poor sloven, who can afford buying $3.5k license but obviously will not receive any additional cookies from it. And, by the way, anyone estimated how much Unity's source + Playstation + Xbox license will cost?

    Trying to install Ubuntu-11.10-64bit-MAC on a Macbook Pro. But I cannot get the live CD to load. 'C' does not work 'CMD' does not work 'OPT' no opt key CD is not corrupt and burnt using the correct iso, all checked. Installed perfectly on my Acer PC.... God I hate Apple Macs! Mac currently has Ubuntu 10.10 32bit, but i get issues with the touchpad, I read Ubuntu 11.10-mac version resolves these issues, hence the attempted re-installation... I do not have any MAC OS installed in this PC only Ubuntu 10.10. When I press 'alt' the CD does not appear in the list only my HDD, yes my CD is working fine.

As a matter of friendship I agreed (orally) not to discuss the details, but now he has a potential investor who wants me to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Since thus far all my work has been pro bono I told Joe I am not comfortable putting myself under documented legal obligation without some kind of compensation for the risk. (It needn't be strictly financial. I would accept a small ownership stake or possibly even just guaranteed credits in the code and documentation.) Is my request reasonable, or am I just introducing unnecessary complexity?

  • How can I fix intermittent iSight camera functionality on a Macbook Pro 5,2?

    I have a Macbook Pro 5,2 laptop dual booting OSX and Ubuntu. The built-in iSight video camera works only sporadically. By that I mean that sometimes if I boot and try to use the camera it does not work (most of the time) but other times it does. I don't have good repeatable data regarding when it does vs. when it doesn't other than to say that it always seems to work right after I upgrade to a new Linux kernel with the Update Manager and reboot, but then eventually stops working again until I upgrade the kernel again. That is hard to test repeatably, so it's hard to know for sure that that is the case. This has happened consistently with every version of Ubuntu from 10.10 through 11.10. I can get around this by booting into the OS/X partition, since all of the hardware obviously works perfectly on that side of things, but it would be great if I could remain in Ubuntu and do the same thing.     I am Running the new Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2, and am looking to install Adobe Acrobat Pro from My CS4 Web Premium CD. Whenever I try and install the setup.exe I get the following error: Internal Error - invalid parameters recieved. in a Wine Program Crash box. I am running wine 1.5 and have tried 1.4 also. I have used winetricks and PlayOnLinux, and cannot get it to install with either program. Any help would be appreciated,.... Also If I cant get it installed does anyone know any programs that can link .PDF files to MySql databases in Linux ,....? I really need this to be able to host some web forms for work. I have bought M-Audio Bx5a deluxe Studio Monitors for my T61. I think the onboard Intel HD sound card will not do any justice to these speakers. So I am looking for an external sound interface. I particularly liked this one as it is not very expensive and it has a volume control (speaker lack a central-front volume knob). Has anyone been able to use this on ubuntu. Also, if anyone would like to recommend me another option?

  • MAMP Pro Uninstaller Throws "The privileged action failed." Error Even After Entering Password

    I have a site that lists offers, promotions from other websites. Since the offers expire rather quickly I don't save them into my database. I see no point in having a page from 2010 about 30% discount on a certain brand of shoes which isn't availabe anymore. A visitor enters my website; He clicks on the "shoes" category; http://www.mysite.com/shoes/ Here he sees 20 available promotions from different online stores. He clicks on a promotion and gets to a page like this: http://www.mysite.com/shoes/promotions/prada Questions: I use the template promotions.php and list all the promotions. /promotions/prada/ /promotions/otherbrand/ .... What I do is use "noindex, follow" for the links. Is that a good idea? Or should I use rel="canonical" for the promotion page? How do you advise me to handle this from the SEO point of view?

  • Could crosslinking using very general anchor texts be a reason for a drop in rankings?

    I have crosslinked 20 sites and I thought I have been penalized for this, asked this question and some experienced members told me maybe that crosslinking may not necessarily be the reason. The sites are on same host, different C class IP and every site in linked to each other. Each site targets long tail kewords. Site 1 - BMW Used Cars - and my area Site 2 - WW Used Cars - and my area And so on... When I crosslinked them (in the sidebar), I did it for the users; instead of repeating the terms used cars and my location over and over (since my users are targeted) I just crosslinked them using the brand: BMW, WW. Targeting locally, my niches are not overly competitive, so I did not need to many external links to rank on various positions on the 1st page. I'm thinking that when I chose to link using only the brand, google might have thought I wanted to actually rank for BBW and WW, hence the drop in my targeted local traffic. Could this be? I now have no-followed the links and I am noticing a slight recovery, but if it's not a interlinking penalty it would be a shame not to benefit from my links.

    In the new Flash Pro CS6 there is an option to generate spriteheet from a symbol. What is causing this and how do I correct it? 2 .I want to convert it to a sprite sheet for 32 angles of movement. Is there any magical easy way to get this done? Is there a workaround without using Flash CS6 to do the same thing?

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Ethernet Jumbo Frame(9k MTU) Support?

    Has anyone been able to use jumbo frame support on their 2010 Macbook Pros? This is kind of negative news here, but I am seeing many reports that this is not available anymore due to Apple's choice of network card in the new machines. I cannot set my MTU speed over 1500 on my new 2010 MBP i7, but my old early 2008 MBP (Core2) has the 9000 MTU setting for use. Everything I have is setup to use jumbo frames and I thought apple kept that feature in their "pro" lineup. It sounds like the Mac Pro still has it. Did they decide to use a chipset that doesn't support it? I am trying to pinpoint some solid chipset numbers and the feature support. Maybe they just need to update the drivers? Is there some more official information about this feature? This might seem minor, but this is really frustrating if apple removed this feature from their pro laptop line.
