  • Debugging T4 Template in VS 2010 Crashes IDE

    I'm trying to debug a slightly-modified version of the ADO.NET POCO Entity Generator template using the directions Oleg Sych published a few years back. I modified the DbgJITDebugLaunchSetting key as recommended. I get a dialog indicating that a user-defined breakpoint has been hit. However, rather than being presented with the option to start a new instance of VS 2010 to debug, the original instance of VS 2010 just crashes and auto-restarts. Is it possible to debug T4 templates with VS 2010?

  • how to debug "deep" crashes in Android?

    Hi All, I've been trying to debug an android crash that is occurring without a Java Stack Trace... Java Stack Trace bugs are very easy for me to fix... but this bug I'm getting seems to be crashing inside the "NDK" or whatever it is the deep internals of Android are called... I've made no modifications to the NDK btw... I just dunno what else to call that layer hehe. Anyway I'm mainly looking for advice on deep-debug methods, rather than help with this specific problem... because I doubt I can post all the source code involved... so really I just need to know how to set breakpoints at the deep layers or whatever other methods there are to trace deep-crashes to their source... so I will briefly describe the bug and then post a LogCat. I have an app with 7 Activities Activity_INTRO Activity_EULA Activity_MAIN Activity_Contact Activity_News Activity_Library Activity_More INTRO is the initiating one... it fades in some company logos... after displaying them for a set time it jumps to the EULA activity... after the user accepts the EULA, it jumps to MAIN... MAIN then creates a TabHost and populates it with the 4 remaining activities now heres the thing... when I click on say, the More tab of the TabHost, the app pauses for a few seconds and then hard-crashes... no java stack trace, but an actual ASM level trace with the registers and IP and stack... the same thing occurs no matter which tab I select, Contact, News, Library, More... all of them crash with the same hard-crash if however I set the manifest to start the app at Activity_MAIN, bypassing the INTRO and EULA, then these crashes do not occur... so something is lingering from those opening activities that is somehow hosing the TabHost'ed Activities... and I'm wondering what the hell that could be... because I'm using finish() on those activites when they need to jump... in fact here is how I'm doing it let me know if you see any bugs: when jumping from INTRO to EULA I do: //Display the EULA Intent newIntent = new Intent (avi, Activity_EULA.class);     I want to execute an external program in each thread of a multi-threaded python program. Let's say max running time is set to 1 second. If started process completes within 1 second, main program capture its output for further processing. If it doesn't finishes in 1 second, main program just terminate it and start another new process.     Does a destructor get called if the app crashes? If it's an unhandled exception I'm guessing it does, but what about more serious errors, or something like a user killing the application process? And a few more potentially dumb questions: what happens to all the objects in an app when the app exits and all finalizers have been executed - do the objects get garbage collected or are they somehow all "unloaded" with the process or appdomain? is the garbage collector part of each application (runs in the same process) or is it independent?

    As I get closer to releasing my first public iPhone app I'm concerned about catching crashes in the field. I'm curious to hear how others have gone about this. I'm not sure what's possible outside of the debugger. Is all lost with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS or can I still catch it and get something useful into a log? Is the program main() the spot to put a @try/@catch?

  • iphone - debugging on device crashes immediately

    When I try to debug my app on the iphone device, the splash screen shows and then the app crashes immediately. If I run the app in the simulator or on the device (not from XCode) it runs fine. I tried putting a breakpoint in the main method and it doesn't seem to hit it. There are no logs generated. ideas? suggestions?

  • Large Table in iFrame crashes IE8

    I have a page with an iFrame whose source is an ashx page. The handler takes in 3 arguments through the query string and generates a text/html response containing a table. When the table gets 1700 rows it crashes the IE8 browser. The browser freezes and returns a null reference error. If I take the html that is being rendered and place it inside a DIV on the page it renders fine in IE8. Any suggestions?
