• What are the benefits of designing a KeyBinding relay?

  The input system of Quake3 is handled using a Keybinding relay, whereby each keypress is matched against a 'binding' which is then passed to the CLI along with a time stamp of when the keypress (or release) occurred. I just wanted to get an idea from developers what they considered to be the key benefits of designing your input system around this approach? One thing i don't particularly like is the appending of the timestamp to the bound command. This seems like a bit of a hack to bend the CLI into handling the games input? Also I feel that detecting the keypress only to add the command to a stream of text that gets parsed at a later date to be a slightly latent way of responding to input? (or is this unfounded?) The only real benefit i can see is that it allows you to bind 'complex' commands to keypresses; like 'switch weapon;+fire;' for example. Or maybe for journaling purposes? Thanks for any insights!

• Windows Azure SDK 1.2 Available - .NET 4.0 Support

  The Windows Azure team had just announced the release of the latest version of its tools and SDK (v1.2) at the TechED 2010 New Orleans. You can download it here. The biggest new feature/improvement of this version of the SDK would be Visual Studio 2010 RTM and .NET 4.0 support. It gives us the facilities to build our azure-based applications on top of .NET 3.5 and 4.0 as well. So the guys who is working on, like me, or is going to be working on .NET 4 would better to have this SDK installed I think. • How to credit other authors in an open source project

  I have a pet project that I am planning to release as open source at some point in the not-too-distant future. A couple of the files use or are mostly code that was taken from a project released under the New BSD License. While I have changed it to fit my needs and added some small stuff, the algorithm and the functionality is basically exactly the same. I want to make sure that the author of the code gets credit and that the license is not broken, but I also want to make the reader aware that this is not the code as it was orignally released. How should I approach this? Should I isolate the code as much as possible and just retain the original license? Maybe put all the files that contain foreign code in their own folder and add a readme explaining what has been added/removed? There must have been tons of projects using other open source code. What is the standard approach to this?

• Mass Metadata Updates with Folders

  With the release of WebCenter Content PS5, a new folder architecture called 'Framework Folders' was introduced.  This is meant to replace the folder architecture of 'Folders_g'.  While the concepts of a folder structure and access to those folders through Desktop Integration Suite remain the same, the underlying architecture of the component has been completely rewritten.  One of the main goals of the new folders is to scale better at large volumes and remove the limitations of 1000 content items or sub-folders within a folder.  Along with the new architecture, it has a new look and a few additional features have been added.  One of those features are Query Folders.  These are folders that are populated simply by a query rather then literally putting items within the folders.  This is something that the Library has provided, but it always took an administrator to define them through the Web Layout Editor.  Now users can quickly define query folders anywhere within the standard folder hierarchy. • JSF 2.2 Update from Ed Burns

  In a recent interview the JavaServer Faces specification lead, Ed Burns, gave an update on JSF 2.2. This is a required component of the Java EE 7 platform. The work is expected to wrap up by CY 2012 and the schedule is publicly available. The interview provide an update on how Tenant Scope from CDI and multi-templating will be included. It also provide details on which HTML 5 content categories will be addressed. The EG discussions are mirrored at jsr344-experts@javaserverfaces-spec-public. • Ubuntu 12.04 installer Crashed

  I downloaded Multiple times Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 12.04.1. And tried to install them using first Virtual box if it work I move to install on actual drive. I dont knw but 12.04.1 dont wanna install on my system So i downloaded 12.04 release and installed it on Virtual box and it installed perfectly then i moved on to install it as Dual OS along with windows 7 but the installer crashed just like the other version and I dont know what the heck is the problem with ubuntu OS Installers. Ubuntu really need to work on their Installer. I love Ubuntu but such things are really headache. At first I thought image was not properly so i burned on another dvd but alas no use same stupid error. Now there are 3 images of 12.04 and 2 images of 12.04.1 and none of them is working on my system. And wasted two dvds. Does anyone know how to solve this problemo.

• Can anyone tell me why Gnome 3 looks like as if it were a gnome fallback session in my virtualbox?

  For some reason Gnome 3 wont work in my virtualbox. Both gnome classic and gnome look exactly identical. The version of my virtualbox is: 4.1.2_ Ubuntu r38459 The 3D acceleration is on in the virtualbox and the Guest Additions is installed in the virtualbox from the software center. Obviously, the graphic card driver is installed on the main Ubuntu system I am using with my laptop. (although the post-release updates can't be installed for whatever reason) Gnome shell is installed from the software center in the virtualbox. Now the issue is that the gnome and gnome classic look like just the same. Here is an image of what gnome looks like (so does gnome classic too....so I am only posting one image): What causes this issue? By the way....I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with gnome fallback session.

  Today I installed the Ubuntu 10.10 release on my Desktop PC. I was running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with an Apple Magic Trackpad and everything was working fine. After today's fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10, I don't see my Apple Magic Trackpad's multitouch working. Two-finger scrolling and three-finger third mouse button clicking are completely broken. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Has anyone had success with Ubuntu 10.10 and an Apple Magic TrackPad? Please help me to fix this issue. Your help is highly appreciated...

• Silverlight Html Placeholder now support OOB mode

  With the official Silverlight 4 release this week, one of the things we introduced in the Telerik Silverlight controls is the ability to use the Html Placeholder control in OOB in the same way you do when the control is hosted in the browser. The good news is that you don't need to do anything in order to enable this feature. It comes out of the box and if you have an app that is using the HtmlPlaceholder you just need to install it in OOB mode to see the same html that you are seeing when the application is hosted in the browser.
