  • make always rebuild

    - by fsdfa
    My Makefile is: OBJS = b.o c.o a.o FLAGS = -Wall -Werror CC = gcc test: $(OBJS) $(CC) $(FLAGS) $(OBJS) -o a b.o: b.c b.h $(CC) $(FLAGS) -c b.c a.o: a.c b.h c.h $(CC) $(FLAGS) -c a.c c.o: c.c c.h $(CC) $(FLAGS) -c c.c clean: rm a rm *.o all: test If I do make then make again, it always rebuilds 'test'. Why does it do this?

  • Ubuntu 12.10 Laptop temperature

    - by romi
I'm using a laptop having dedicated graphics card with Ubuntu and Windows 7 dual boot. The windows 7 idle temperature for cpu is 51C average and gpu is 46-48.5C, and when in load Cpu temp varies between 55-61C, and GPU 49-51 MAX. But in ubuntu idle temp CPU: 54c Gpu(ati radeon, proprietary driver installed): 50C and on load cpu: 58-69C gpu:53C max. Is it normal? If not is there any solution? Note that i'm using jupiter, latest graphics driver, grub tweaks etc.

  • ActionScript Basic Question

    - by TheDarkIn1978
i've only ever created external .as files that extended a class such as sprite. now i just want to create one that doesn't extend anything and call it from a frame script. package { public class Test { public function Test(val:Number, max:Number) { trace(val, max); } } } from my frame script of an .fla that is in the same folder as Test.as, i'll write this: Test(50, 100); this produces the following error: 1137: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected no more than 1.

  • Prolog singleton variables in Python

    - by Rubens
I'm working on a little set of scripts in python, and I came to this: line = "a b c d e f g" a, b, c, d, e, f, g = line.split() I'm quite aware of the fact that these are decisions taken during implementation, but shouldn't (or does) python offer something like: _, _, var_needed, _, _, another_var_needed, _ = line.split() as well as Prolog does offer, in order to exclude the famous singleton variables. I'm not sure, but wouldn't it avoid unnecessary allocation? Or creating references to the result of the split call does not count up as overhead? EDIT: Sorry, my point here is: in Prolog, as far as I'm concerned, in an expression like: test(L, N) :- test(L, 0, N). test([], N, N). test([_|T], M, N) :- V is M + 1, test(T, V, N). The variable represented by _ is not accessible, for what I suppose the reference to the value that does exist in the list [_|T] is not even created. But, in Python, if I use _, I can use the last value assigned to _, and also, I do suppose the assignment occurs for each of the variables _ -- which may be considered an overhead. My question here is if shouldn't there be (or if there is) a syntax to avoid such unnecessary attributions.

  • Multiple Graphics Cards on Fedora 15 (Gnome 3)

    - by Michael
I have the (delightful) misfortune of having 3 graphics cards. They are XFX Radeon 5750s. Each drives 2 monitors via dvi. I am having a really hard time getting these running on fedora 15 (gnome 3). So my setup is 3 columns of 2 monitors (the upper monitor is mounted upside down in each column to reduce the bezel between monitors). When the (graphical) login screen comes up all 6 have the blue stripey background that must be the default, but then when I login, things get interesting. In the xorg.conf below, you will see only 2 of the screens in the serverlayout while the other 4 are commented out. Logging in with only 2 of the screens active works well (and it even remembers that the top one is upside down, and should be considered above the lower, i am not sure where it stores this info, but i set it using the graphical "Displays" settings) However, as soon as I uncomment a third screen, or more, it gives me an error message when I login. It's one of those friendly, less helpful messages (Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again). If i do not use an xorg.conf, then the "Displays" prefs pane shows only the two monitors on one of my graphics cards Thanks to anyone who can help me get going! • Running a java program in linux terminal with -class path

    - by Arya
Hello I've been trying for an hour to run the following program with a the postgresql classpath class Test{ public static void main(String[] args){ try { Class.forName("org.postgresql.Driver"); } catch (ClassNotFoundException cnfe) { System.err.println("Couldn't find Postgresql driver class!"); } } } The program compiled fine with the javac command, but I'm having a hard time running it with the postgresql classpath. I have "postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar" in the same directory as the file and I tried the following, but non of them worked java -classpath ./postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar Test java -classpath postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar Test java -classpath "postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar" Test What am I doing wrong? • Passing NULL value

    - by FFXIII
Hi. I use an instance of NSXMLParser. I store found chars in NSMutableStrings that are stored in an NSMutableDictionary and these Dicts are then added to an NSMutableArray. When I test this everything seems normal: I count 1 array, x dictionnaries and x strings. In a detailview controller file I want to show my parsed results. I call the class where everthing is stored but I get (null) returned. This is what I do (wrong): XMLParser.h @interface XMLParser : NSObject { NSMutableArray *array; NSMUtableDictionary *dictionary; NSSMutabletring *element; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *array; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableDictionary *dictionary; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableString *element; XMLParser.m @synthesize array, dictionary, element; //parsing goes on here & works fine //so 'element' is filled with content and stored in a dict in an array //and released at the end of the file In my controller file I do this: controller.h @class XMLParser; @interface controller : UIViewController { XMLParser *aXMLParser; } @property (nonatomic, retain) XMLParser *aXMLParser; controller.m #import "XMLParser.h" @synthesize aXMLParser; - (void)viewDidLoad { NSLog(@"test array: %@", aXMLParser.array); NSLog(@"test dict: %@", aXMLParser.dictionary); NSLog(@"test element: %@", aXMLParser.element); } When I test the value of my array, a dict or an element in the XMLParser.h file I get my result. What am I doing wrong so I can't call my results in my controller file? Any help is welcome, because I'm pretty stuck right now :/

  • why primitive type will call first rather than wrapper classes?

    - by kandarp
Hello EveryOne, public class A { public void test(Integer i) { System.out.println("In Wrapper Method"); } public void test(int i) { System.out.println("In primitive Method"); } public static void main(String args[]) { A a = new A(); a.test(5); } } When I will call test method from main and pass integer argument, then it will call the method which accept primitive type as argument. I just want to know that why it call primitive type method rather than the method who accepts wrapper class as argument? Is there any rule, which java follow to call methods? Thanks,

  • 12.10 starts up to just my desktop background [closed]

    - by Alex
Possible Duplicate: Unity does not start after installing the fglrx drivers on 12.10 I have only just started using linux more than just instlling it on an old pc for fun and have just changed the driver settings from the default option. The computer starts up and goes through everything else well, but at slightly lower resolution. Once signing on to Ubuntu, it only displays my desktop background and cursor. Can i restore it to the default driver settings? I've spent a while transferring files and don't want to reinstall Ubuntu.

  • C++ Constructor initialization list strangeness

    - by Andy
I have always been a good boy when writing my classes, prefixing all member variables with m_: class Test { int m_int1; int m_int2; public: Test(int int1, int int2) : m_int1(int int1), m_int2(int int2) {} }; void main() { Test t(10, 20); // Just an example } However, recently I forgot to do that and ended up writing: class Test { int int1; int int2; public: // Very questionable, but of course I meant to assign ::int1 to this->int1! Test(int int1, int int2) : int1(int1), int2(int2) {} }; Believe it or not, the code compiled with no errors/warnings and the assignments took place correctly! It was only when doing the final check before checking in my code when I realised what I had done. My question is: why did my code compile? Is something like that allowed in the C++ standard, or is it simply a case of the compiler being clever? In case you were wondering, I was using Visual Studio 2008 Thank you.

  • Why is the dictionary debug visualizer less useful in Visual Studio 2010 for Silverlight debugging?

    - by Kevin
I was debugging in Visual Studio 2010, which we just installed and trying to look at a dictionary in the quick watch window. I see Keys and Values, but drilling into those shows the Count and Non-Public members, Non-Public members continues the trail and I never see the values in the dictionary. I can run test.Take(10) and see the values, but why should I have to do that. I don't have VS 2008 installed anymore to compare, but it seems that I could debug a dictionary much easier. Why is it this way now? Is it just a setting I set somehow on my machine? Test code: Dictionary<string, string> test = new Dictionary<string, string>(); test.Add("a", "b"); EDIT: I've just tried the same debug in a Console app and it works as expected. The other project is a Silverlight 4 application, why are they different? Console Debug Screen Shot Silverlight 4 Debug Screen Shot:

  • Alternative for assigns() in Cucumber with Capybara?

    - by thillerson
I'm trying out capybara with cucumber to get some better javascript test coverage. I have a lot of steps that check or use things from the Rails integration test helpers, for instance: assigns(:current_user).should_not be_nil No matter how I call assigns, even if I say something like p assigns it errors with: undefined method `template' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) So, it seems that I can't do that anymore. Is there an alternative to introspecting what's going on in the controller, or maybe some way of at least running those steps in such a way that I have the integration test stuff back?

  • Selecting an item in an HTML SELECT list using keyboard doesnt trigger the CLICK event

    - by Jimbo
I have an HTML select list which, when an item is selected, must show different information beneath it. The onclick or JQuery change events are triggered when a select list item is selected by being clicked on (mouse), but not when the user uses key presses (keyboard). Any idea what event to watch in order to determine when the selected list item has changed? Here is a BASIC test example: <select id="mylist" name="mylist"> <option value="">(none)</option> <option value="1">Test 1</option> <option value="2">Test 2</option> <option value="3">Test 3</option> </select> <span id="myspan"></span> <script type="text/javascript"> $("#mylist").change(function() { $("#myspan").html($("#mylist").attr("selectedIndex")); }); </script>

  • small scale web site - global javascript file style/format/pattern - improving maintainability

    - by yaya3
    I frequently create (and inherit) small to medium websites where I have the following sort of code in a single file (normally named global.js or application.js or projectname.js). If functions get big, I normally put them in a seperate file, and call them at the bottom of the file below in the $(document).ready() section. If I have a few functions that are unique to certain pages, I normally have another switch statement for the body class inside the $(document).ready() section. How could I restructure this code to make it more maintainable? Note: I am less interested in the functions innards, more so the structure, and how different types of functions should be dealt with. I've also posted the code here - http://pastie.org/999932 in case it makes it any easier var ProjectNameEnvironment = {}; function someFunctionUniqueToTheHomepageNotWorthMakingConfigurable () { $('.foo').hide(); $('.bar').click(function(){ $('.foo').show(); }); } function functionThatIsWorthMakingConfigurable(config) { var foo = config.foo || 700; var bar = 200; return foo * bar; } function globallyRequiredJqueryPluginTrigger (tooltip_string) { var tooltipTrigger = $(tooltip_string); tooltipTrigger.tooltip({ showURL: false ... }); } function minorUtilityOneLiner (selector) { $(selector).find('li:even').not('li ul li').addClass('even'); } var Lightbox = {}; Lightbox.setup = function(){ $('li#foo a').attr('href','#alpha'); $('li#bar a').attr('href','#beta'); } Lightbox.init = function (config){ if (typeof $.fn.fancybox =='function') { Lightbox.setup(); var fade_in_speed = config.fade_in_speed || 1000; var frame_height = config.frame_height || 1700; $(config.selector).fancybox({ frameHeight : frame_height, callbackOnShow: function() { var content_to_load = config.content_to_load; ... }, callbackOnClose : function(){ $('body').height($('body').height()); } }); } else { if (ProjectNameEnvironment.debug) { alert('the fancybox plugin has not been loaded'); } } } // ---------- order of execution ----------- $(document).ready(function () { urls = urlConfig(); (function globalFunctions() { $('.tooltip-trigger').each(function(){ globallyRequiredJqueryPluginTrigger(this); }); minorUtilityOneLiner('ul.foo') Lightbox.init({ selector : 'a#a-lightbox-trigger-js', ... }); Lightbox.init({ selector : 'a#another-lightbox-trigger-js', ... }); })(); if ( $('body').attr('id') == 'home-page' ) { (function homeFunctions() { someFunctionUniqueToTheHomepageNotWorthMakingConfigurable (); })(); } });

  • Freezes if desktop effects is used [closed]

    - by munir
I have found that using desktop effects in Ubuntu versions later than 8.10 causes the desktop to freeze after a few seconds on my PC. the command lspci -nn gave the following 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02) and with lspci -k I have 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 The intel graphics cards seems to have some performence issues with xorg driver. However I have not noticed any freeze in Ubuntu 8.10. There are some workarounds at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes to make them work. But I can't find out what workaround should I do with my graphics controller. I have tried workaround F but it did not help. can anyone help me find a workaround for my graphics card? and is it actually possible to use desktop effect in this graphics card ?

  • Testing file uploading and downloading speed using FTP

    - by Toman
Hi all, I am working in a desktop application using java. In my application i have to perform a speed test which will show the file uploading and downloading speed. For uploading test i am uploading a small test file to a FTP server and based on time taken i am calculating the file upload speed. similarly i am downloading a test file form server and calculating download speed. But result i am getting doesn't match with actual FTP file uploading and downloading speed.it seems that the establishing connection to FTP server is increasing the time, hence the resultant speed i am calculating is less. Could you suggest any link or some way to get nearest uploading and downloading speed. i thanks to all your valuable suggestion.

Is this still the case? Why does each object appear to share the same list instance?

  • Slow query with unexpected scan

    - by zerkms
Hello I have this query: SELECT * FROM SAMPLE SAMPLE INNER JOIN TEST TEST ON SAMPLE.SAMPLE_NUMBER = TEST.SAMPLE_NUMBER INNER JOIN RESULT RESULT ON TEST.TEST_NUMBER = RESULT . TEST_NUMBER WHERE SAMPLED_DATE BETWEEN '2010-03-17 09:00' AND '2010-03-17 12:00' the biggest table here is RESULT, contains 11.1M records. The left 2 tables about 1M. this query works slowly (more than 10 minutes) and returns about 800 records. executing plan shows clustered index scan over all 11M records. RESULT.TEST_NUMBER is a clustered primary key. if I change 2010-03-17 09:00 to 2010-03-17 10:00 - i get about 40 records. it executes for 300ms. and plan shows clustered index seek if i replace * in SELECT clause to RESULT.TEST_NUMBER (covered with index) - then all become fast in first case too. this points to hdd io issues, but doesn't clarifies changing plan. so, any ideas?

  • GNOME 3.8 stutters / lags

    - by Robin
I recently installed Fedora 19 beta and noticed unusually laggy behaviour of GNOME Shell (3.8) on the Nouveau driver on a nVidia 9200GS (also with nVidia driver) So I thought this could be related to Fedora so I installed Ubuntu 13.04 which comes with GNOME 3.6. Everything was buttery smooth as it has always been, but once I upgraded GNOME to 3.8, I experience the same laggy performance on Ubuntu as well. I'm talking about the animations, such as the window overview in activities, openSUSE live image with 3.6 = smooth Ubuntu 13.04 live image with 3.6 = smooth Ubuntu 13.04 install with 3.6 = smooth Ubuntu 13.04 install with 3.8 = laggy Fedora live image with 3.8 = laggy Fedora install with 3.8 = laggy Does anyone have a clue what could be going on?

  • 3.5.0-18 kernel update broke BCM43228

    - by ignition
After updating the kernel to 3.5.0-18 the Broadcom BCM43228 wireless card of my Acer Aspire One 756 has stopped working properly. The card often refuses to connect to my AP, and if it connects it behaves very unstable. I have already reinstalled the drivers, as recommended by googling around. As far as I can tell the only driver that supports my card is the bcmwl package. I found one solution saying I should install broadcom-sta using module assistant, however I could not get this to install and apparently broadcom-sta and bcmwl are effectively the same driver? Is anyone experiencing similar issues? Is it possible to just downgrade to the previous kernel version?
