• Synergy: Is there a way to push Win+L to all screens, not just the server?

  When I hit Win+L on either of my machines I'd ideally like to be able to lock both client and server What happens though is no matter which screen I hit the key combination... it locks the server. • Ad-hoc reporting similar to Microstrategy/Pentaho - is OLAP really the only choice (is OLAP even sufficient)?

  So I'm getting ready to develop an API in Java that will provide all dimensions, metrics, hierarchies, etc to a user such that they can pick and choose what they want (say, e.g., dimensions of Location (a store) and Weekly, and the metric Product Sales $), provide their choices to the api, and have it spit out an object that contains the answer to their question (the object would probably be a set of cells). I don't even believe there will be much drill up/down. The data warehouse the APIwill interface with is in a standard form (FACT tables, dimensions, star schema format). My question is, is an OLAP framework such as Mondrian the only way to achieve something akin to ad-hoc reporting? I can envisage a really large Cube (or VirtualCube) that contains most of the dimensions and metrics the user could ever want, which would give the illusion of ad-hoc reporting. The problem is that there is a ton of setup to do (so much XML) to get the framework to work with the data. Further it requires specific knowledge, such as MDX, and even moreso learning the framework peculiars (Mondrian API). Finally, I am not positive it will scale much better than simply making queries against a SQL database. OLAP to me feels like very old technology. Is performance really an issue anymore? The alternative I can think of would be dynamic SQL. If the existing tables in the data warehouse conform to a naming scheme (FACT_, DIM_, etc), or if a very simple config file/ database table containing config information existed that stored which tables are fact tables, which are dimensions, and what metrics are available, then couldn't the api read from that and assembly the appropriate sql query? Would this necessarily be harder than learning MDX, Mondrian (or another OLAP framework), and creating all the cubes? In general, I feel that OLAP is at the same time too powerful (supports drill up/down, complex functions) and outdated and am reluctant to base my architecture on it. However, I am unsure if the alternative(s), such as rolling my own ad-hoc reporting framework using dynamic SQL would remove any complexity while still fulfilling requirements, both functional and non-functional (e.g., scalability; some FACT tables have many millions of rows). I also wonder about other techniques (e.g., hive). Has anyone here tried to do ad-hoc reporting? Any advice? I expect this project to take a pretty long time (3 months min, but probably longer), so I just do not want to commit to an architecture without being absolutely sure of its pros and cons. • Run command automatically as root after login

  I'm using evrouter to simulate keypresses from my mouses extra buttons. It works great but I need to run the command with sudo to make it work so I can't just use my DE to handle autostart. • If I drop my clustered PK and add a new one, what order will my rows be in?

  In SQL Server, I'm looking at TableA, which currently has a uniqueidentifier clustered primary key. The GUID has no meaning in any context. (I'll give you a second to clean up your keyboard and monitor and set down the soda.) I'd like to drop that primary key and add a new unique integer primary key to the table. My question is this: when I drop the index, modify the column from uniqueidentifier to int, and add the new clustered unique primary key to the modified column, will the new PK values be in the order of insertion into the table, or will they be in some other order? Is this the right way to go here? Will this work? (I'm kind of a noobkin with regard to table creation/modification.)

• Accessing or Resetting Permissions of a Mounted Registry Hive of a Different User / From a Different System

  I’m currently stuck using my backup system until I can replace my dead motherboard. In the meantime, I have put my hard-drive in this system so that I can access my files and keep working on the backup system. Fortunately, I don’t have a permission issues with the files (the partitions are FAT32). The issue I’m having is with the registry. I need to import some of my settings from the hives of my (old? normal?) installation of Windows into the one I’m currently using. Settings from the system hives (SYSTEM, SOFTWARE, etc.) are fine, but the user hive is giving me trouble. I’ve copied the NTUSER.DAT file from my other drive and mounted it with the reg command. Most of the keys (eg Software) are fine and I can access them without problem, but some of them (particularly the Identities key where Outlook Express settings are stored) complains that it cannot be opened. If I open the permissions dialog, I get an error about being unable to view the current permssions. If I then ignore it and try to take ownership of the key and it’s subkeys, I get an access-denied error. If I then add permissions for my user account on this system, I get an error, however I am then able to see the subkeys and values of the key. If I then try to access the subkeys, I get the same original errors. If I repeat the process for each subkey, I can see their values and subkeys, and so on, but of course this gets to be incredibly annoying and time-consuming (especially since the Identities key has a lot of subkeys). Is there an easier/temporary/more correct way to dump a key so that I can import it into my backup system?

• Why isn't passwordless ssh working?

  I have two Ubuntu Server machines sitting at home. One is 192.168.1.15 (we'll call this 15), and the other is 192.168.1.25 (we'll call this 25). For some reason, when I want to setup passwordless login from 15 to 25, it works like a champ. When I repeat the steps on 25, so that 25 can login without a password on 15, no dice. I have checked both sshd_config files.   Good day all! I hope you are doing good. I have performed a WUBI installation of 12.04 on my HP G62 laptop, which has an Atheros AR9285 wireless chipset. Everything works fine with my wired network connection. However, wireless is unable to connect to my wifi network. I enter the WPA2 key and then it attemps to connect, but eventually comes back, asking for the WPA2 key again, as if it was not good. All of the other laptops in the household are able to connect, using the same key (I configured them all, so I am 500% sure of the WPA2 key). Any idea as to what could be causing this? I can definitely post the output of CLI commands like "rfkill list" or "sudo lshw -class network", or "ifconfig". I have installed Ubuntu a few time but I am definitely still a newbie, but I am definitely computer savyy. Looking forward to suggestions . Thanks in advance !!! Dan...

This will be the largest table by far (next largest is about 900k) UPDATE (08/11/2010) Interestingly, I've been given a second option... Instead of 192 trillion I could store 2.6*10^16 (15 zeros, meaning 26 Quadrillion)... But in this second option I would only need to store one bigint(18) as the index in a table. That's it - just the one column. So I would just be checking for the existence of a value. Occasionally adding records, never deleting them. So that makes me think there must be a better solution then mysql for simply storing numbers... Given this second option, should I take it or stick with the first... From my reading of the MySQL documentation, this seems like a reasonable complaint, especially in regards to the third bullet point on this doc page. Here's my question. Am I missing something in the DBIx::Class module? I realize that I could explicitly create the necessary index to match up with this foreign key constraint, but that seems to be repetitive work. Is there something I should be doing to make this occur implicitly?

  Hi, I have a ListView with TextBoxes in second column. I want to validate that my text box does not contain a number if the third column(data_type) is "Text". I am unable to do the validation. I tried a few approaches. In one approach I try to handle the MouseDown event and am trying to get the Row number so that I can get the data_type value of that row.
