• Help! Getting an error copying the data from one column to the same column in a similar recordset..

  I have a routine which reads one recordset, and adds/updates rows in a similar recordset. The routine starts off by copying the columns to a new recordset: Here's the code for creating the new recordset.. For X = 1 To aRS.Fields.Count mRS.Fields.Append aRS.Fields(X - 1).Name, aRS.Fields(X - 1).Type, aRS.Fields(X - _ 1).DefinedSize, aRS.Fields(X - 1).Attributes Next X Pretty straight forward. Notice the copying of the name, Type, DefinedSize & Attributes... Further down in the code, (and there's nothing that modifies any of the columns between.. ) I'm copying the values of a row to a row in the new recordset as such: For C = 1 To aRS.Fields.Count mRS.Fields(C - 1) = aRS.Fields(C - 1) Next C When it gets to the last column which is a numeric, it craps with the "Mutliple-Step Operation Generated an error" message. I know that MS says this is an error generated by the provider, which in this case is ADO 2.8. There is no open connect to the DB at this point in time either. I'm pulling what little hair I have left over this one... (and I don't really care at this point that the column index is 'X' in one loop & 'C' in the other... I'll change it later when I get the real problem fixed...)

• Formating a table date field from the Model in Codeigniter

  Hi, I', trying to re-format a date from a table in Codeigniter. The Controller is for a blog. I was succesfull when the date conversion happens in the View. I was hoping to convert the date in the Model to have things in order. Here's the date conversion as it happens in the View.   Hi everyone. I'm developing some ajax script and using wordpress and my question is: is there a way to extract a comment url from a wordpress function somehow?   During a recent job interview, I was asked to give a solution to the following problem: Given a string s (without spaces) and a dictionary, return the words in the dictionary that compose the string. For example, s= peachpie, dic= {peach, pie}, result={peach, pie}. I will ask the the decision variation of this problem: if s can be composed of words in the dictionary return yes, otherwise return no.   I have a SPView object that contains a lot of SPListItem objects (there are many fields in the view). I am only interested in one of these fields. Let's call it specialField Given that view and specialField, I want to know if a value is contained in specialField.   I'm getting a very weird error. I have 2 activities. On both I'm getting the SharedPreferences using MODE_PRIVATE (if it matters) by sp = getPreferences(MODE_PRIVATE); on each activity's onCreate() I'm calling sp.getBoolean(IntroActivity.SHOW_INTRO, true) On the IntroActivity this works fine. • Excel 2010 VBA code is stuck when UserForm is shown

  I've created a UserForm as a progress indicator while a web query (using InternetExplorer object) runs in the background. The code gets triggered as shown below. The progress indicator form is called 'Progerss'. I also see that the range of cells in column A gets cleared which tells me that the vbModeless is doing what I want. But then, somewhere within the GetWebData() procedure, things get hung up. As soon as I manually destroy the progress indicator form, the GetWebData() routine finishes and I see the correct results. But if I leave the progress indicator visible, things just get stuck indefinitely. The code below shows what GetWebData() is doing. • Java - problems iterating through an ArrayList

  Ok so I have an ArrayList (arrBok), which is full of book objects (the code is in Norwegian, so pay no attention to that please). I want to make a public method which iterates through all the objects in the arraylist. When I execute the code, it just seems to run in an infinite loop, not producing any return values. Here is the relevant (I hope, because there are a couple of other classes involved) part of the code; public String listAll() { itr = arrBok.iterator(); while (itr.hasNext()) { i++; } return "lol"; } This code does nothing useful, but I just want to see if it can iterate through it successfully. What I have tried so far; Tested if the bokArr (arraylist) is empty, which it's not. It has 4 objects inside of it. Return the toString() method of the itr, with the following result; java.util.AbstractList$Itr@173a10f // <-- not sure if this would be relevant to anything return itr.next().toString(); <-- // which seems to return the first object in the array, does that make sense?

• How do you use indent in vim for web development?

  I'm starting to use Linux and Vim at work. I'm starting to read vims documentation and creating my own .vimrc file and such. I'm a web developer working with HTML, XML, CSS, JS, Python, PHP, ZPT, DTML and SQL. I would like to have an indent feature like this one: for each language/set, a corresponding indent solution. So, in js, writing function test(){|} would turn in function test(){ | } If php, writing <?php function test(){|}: <?php function test(){ | } <?php> ...and such. Writing a function definition in Python, and then creating a for loop sentece, it would automatically create an indent. I'm starting with autoindent, smartindent, cindent but I'm a little confused about their differences. How do the indent in vim works? Am I supposed to download plugins for each language? Is the behavior I described possible with already existing plugins you're used to or do I have to create it? I keep seeing people using Vim and I'm trying to do this as well since the machine I'm using is too limited, but I'm afraid I won't be able to have a decent auto indenting solution in it. (I have used autoindenting in a little small project in Visual Studio, and really liked their approach. Is there a plugin for that?)

• how do I best create a set of list classes to match my business objects

  I'm a bit fuzzy on the best way to solve the problem of needing a list for each of my business objects that implements some overridden functions. Here's the setup: I have a baseObject that sets up database, and has its proper Dispose() method All my other business objects inherit from it, and if necessary, override Dispose() Some of these classes also contain arrays (lists) of other objects. So I create a class that holds a List of these. I'm aware I could just use the generic List, but that doesn't let me add extra features like Dispose() so it will loop through and clean up. So if I had objects called User, Project and Schedule, I would create UserList, ProjectList, ScheduleList. In the past, I have simply had these inherit from List< with the appropriate class named and then written the pile of common functions I wanted it to have, like Dispose(). this meant I would verify by hand, that each of these List classes had the same set of methods. Some of these classes had pretty simple versions of these methods that could have been inherited from a base list class. I could write an interface, to force me to ensure that each of my List classes has the same functions, but interfaces don't let me write common base functions that SOME of the lists might override. I had tried to write a baseObjectList that inherited from List, and then make my other Lists inherit from that, but there are issues with that (which is really why I came here). One of which was trying to use the Find() method with a predicate. I've simplified the problem down to just a discussion of Dispose() method on the list that loops through and disposes its contents, but in reality, I have several other common functions that I want all my lists to have. What's the best practice to solve this organizational matter?

  I have a socket server that I am trying to move over to SSL on python 2.5, but I've run into a snag with pyOpenSSL. I can't find any good tutorials on using it, so I'm operating largely on guesses. Here is how my server sets up the socket: ctx = SSL.Context(SSL.SSLv23_METHOD) ctx.use_privatekey_file ("mykey.pem") ctx.use_certificate_file("mycert.pem") sock = SSL.Connection(ctx, socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)) sock.setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_REUSEADDR, 1) addr = ('', int(8081)) sock.bind(addr) sock.listen(5) Here is how it accepts clients: sock.setblocking(0) while True: if len(select([sock], [], [], 0.25)[0]): client_sock, client_addr = sock.accept() client = ClientGen(client_sock) And here is how it sends/receives from the connected sockets: while True: (r, w, e) = select.select([sock], [sock], [], 0.25) if len(r): bytes = sock.recv(1024) if len(w): n_bytes = sock.send(self.message) It's compacted, but you get the general idea. The problem is, once the send/receive loop starts, it dies right away, before anything has been sent or received (that I can see anyway): Traceback (most recent call last): File "ClientGen.py", line 50, in networkLoop n_bytes = sock.send(self.message WantReadError The manual's description of the 'WantReadError' is very vague, saying it can come from just about anywhere. What am I doing wrong?

So it is reading first column top to buttom then continuing to next .... I don't know why. However, What I need is to call it using two indices. As row and column: a(3,2)= 4 or even better if i can call it in the following way: a{3}(2)=4 What is this process really called (want to learn) and how to perform in matlab. I thought of a loop. • Stage shifts when using addChild?

  I'm having a very odd bug with ActionScript 3 in Flash CS4. I am adding movie clips to a stage in a for loop and then moving them out of view so that I can pull them in and remove them when I need them. I've narrowed down the issue to a point that I know that every time one of the movie clips are added to the stage using addChild(), the stage shifts to the right by one pixel. I know that sounds odd, but it's literally true... the 0 line on the y axis is shifted to the right one pixel every time the movie clip is added. I have no idea how this could be happening. • PHP in_array() can't even match a single character. Strict is set to true.

  I've seen a million of these threads here already, and read through every single one already. Including some serious time Googling. Nothing complicated. All I have to do is check if a single character in a loop matches my alphabet array. print_r($alphabet); // all 26 letters Array ( [0] => a [1] => b [2] => c ... • Simple question about the lunarlander example.

  I am basing my game off the lunarlander example. This is the run loop I am using (very similar to what is used in lunarlander). I am getting considerable performance issues associated with my drawing, even if I draw almost nothing. I noticed the below method. Why is the canvas being created and set to null each cycle? @Override public void run() { while (mRun) { Canvas c = null; try { c = mSurfaceHolder.lockCanvas();//null synchronized (mSurfaceHolder) { updatePhysics(); doDraw(c); } } finally { // do this in a finally so that if an exception is thrown // during the above, we don't leave the Surface in an // inconsistent state if (c != null) { mSurfaceHolder.unlockCanvasAndPost(c); } } } } Most of the times I have read anything about canvases it is more along the lines of: mField = new Bitmap(...dimensions...); Canvas c = new Canvas(mField); My question is: why is Google's example done that way (null canvas), what are the benefits of this, and is there a faster way to do it?

• does entity framework or mysql provider swallows timeout exceptions on enumeration of result?!

  I'm trying to make sense of a situation I have using entity framework on .net 3.5 sp1 + MySQL 6.1.2.0 as the provider. It involves the following code: Response.Write("Products: " + plist.Count() + "<br />"); var total = 0; foreach (var p in plist) { //... some actions total++; //... other actions } Response.Write("Total Products Checked: " + total + "<br />"); Basically the total products is varying on each run, and it isn't matching the full total in plist. Its varies widely, from ~ 1/5th to half. There isn't any control flow code inside the foreach i.e. no break, continue, try/catch, conditions around total++, anything that could affect the count. As confirmation, there are other totals captured inside the loop related to the actions, and those match the lower and higher total runs. I don't find any reason to the above, other than something in entity framework or the mysql provider that causes it to end the foreach when retrieving an item. The body of the foreach can have some good variation in time, as the actions involve file & network access, my best shot at the time is that when it takes beyond certain threshold there is some type of timeout in the underlying framework/provider and instead of causing an exception it is silently reporting no more items for enumeration. Can anyone give some light in the above scenario and/or confirm if the entity framework/mysql provider has the above behavior?

• Performance Comparison of Shell Scripts vs high level interpreted langs (C#/Java/etc.)

  Hi all, First - This is not meant to be a 'which is better, ignorant nonionic war thread'... But rather, I generally need help in making an architecture decision / argument to put forward to my boss. Skipping the details - I simply just would love to know and find the results of anyone who has done some performance comparisons of Shell vs [Insert General Purpose Programming Language (interpreted) here), such as C# or Java... Surprisingly, I have spent some time on Google on searching here to not find any of this data. Has anyone ever done these comparisons, in different use-cases; hitting a database like in a XYX # of loops doing different types of SQL (Oracle pref, but MSSQL would do) queries such as any of the CRUD ops - and also not hitting database and just regular 50k loop type comparison doing different types of calculations, and things of that nature? In particular - for right now, I need to a comparison of hitting an Oracle DB from a shell script vs, lets say C# (again, any GPPL thats interpreted would be fine, even the higher level ones like Python). But I also need to know about standard programming calculations / instructions/etc... Before you ask 'why not just write a quick test yourself? The answer is: I've been a Windows developer my whole life/career and have very limited knowledge of Shell scripting - not to mention *nix as a whole.... So asking the question on here from the more experienced guys would be grealty beneficial, not to mention time saving as we are in near perputual deadline crunch as it is ;). • How do you set a variable to be an empty, but workable Jquery object?

  Outside of a for I declare a variable using var list;. I use this variable inside of my for loop like so: // add the html to the list if (list == undefined) list = item; else list.append(item.contents()); item is a cloned jquery object build from a $('list_template').clone(); call (list_template is a div with <li> elements inside). What I am doing is creating a list, which I will then appendTo() where I need it. Right now this code works fine, but it doesn't seem right to me. Unfortunatly, I cannot seem to figure out how to correctly declare the list variable to be an empty Jquery object. I have tried both: var list = $([]); var list = $(''); Both of those cause the append to not work correctly (or as expected) with list.html() being null. Is there a way to initialize my variable to an empty jquery object, so all I have to do is list.append(item.contents()); without the if/else statements?

• Deleting While Iterating in Ruby?

  I'm iterating over a very large set of strings, which iterates over a smaller set of strings. Due to the size, this method takes a while to do, so to speed it up, I'm trying to delete one of the strings from the smaller set that no longer needs to be used. Below is my current code: Ms::Fasta.foreach(@database) do |entry| all.each do |set| if entry.header[1..40].include? set[1] + "|" startVal = entry.sequence.scan_i(set[0])[0] if startVal != nil @locations << [set[0], set[1], startVal, startVal + set[1].length] all.delete(set) end end end end The problem I face is that the easy way, array.delete(string), effectively adds a break statement to the inner loop, which messes up the results. The only way I know how to fix this is to do this: Ms::Fasta.foreach(@database) do |entry| i = 0 while i < all.length set = all[i] if entry.header[1..40].include? set[1] + "|" startVal = entry.sequence.scan_i(set[0])[0] if startVal != nil @locations << [set[0], set[1], startVal, startVal + set[1].length] all.delete_at(i) i -= 1 end end i += 1 end end This feels kind of sloppy to me. • Problem with thumbnails after newly added - PHP on-the-fly method

  Hey again... to those that may have read my previous question that got solved a couple minutes ago .< The on-the-fly php script works perfectly, but when I went to upload new images into a gallery which I made myself, the images are resized to 150 x 150 for what I wanted... however, when it comes to new images being added it is all black... As you can see the three black images that were uploaded to the folder and the directory added to the database. What is causing this? If I view the source, the code is fine... the while loop in the PHP generates an output like this: <div class="view-wrap" id="photo-10"> <div class="view-icon"> <div class="img-label"> <a href="#" id="10" class="delete"><img src="img/small-delete.png" /> Delete</a> </div> <a href="img/events/Paintballing/24251_1395408043148_1170626626_1204038_5382765_n.jpg"> <img src="image.php?dir=img/events/Paintballing/24251_1395408043148_1170626626_1204038_5382765_n.jpg" alt="" width="110" height="110" /> </a> </div> </div> An example of one block. If I view the source (in Firefox) and click on the image.php?dir=img/events/Paintballing/24251_1395408043148_1170626626_1204038_5382765_n.jpg by exmaple, I can see the thumbnail at it's 150 x 150 size but in the layout, it shows a black thumbnail... Does anyone know why this is happening?
