What made it hard to find? How did you track it down?

Hi,
Does anyone (out of choice or forced) develop on a computer that they have to remote desktop into?
How has your experiences been with it?
I can see the advantages as you can basically code from anyplace in the world so long as you have a fast enough connection.

Found this question while trying to do the same:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/642076/how-to-save-sms-to-inbox-in-android-programmatically.
But this part:
getContentResolver().insert(Uri.parse("content://sms/sent"), values);
throws an SecurityException.
I requestet SMS_WRITE permission in the manifest file.
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
If someone asks me the below questions
What an Android Framework is?
What does it do?
How should I answer?
Also what is the role of API's such as Activity Manager, Location Manager etc in the Framework?
A client has asked me about building an iphone app that can take restaurant orders.
I have the resources to get this app done, but I had a few questions.
*Will this app require a portion of the sale to go to apple (if so how much?)
*Whats the best way to integrate a payment portal to this?
*Will I have to/should I have someone authorize the payments?
Thanks, All feedback is appreciated.
I have a batch of PNG files that I need to convert to JPEG. I'm looking for a free trustworthy utility that will give me the most optimal possible JPEGs.
I've found some paid utilities and i HAVE Photoshop, but I want something dedicated that is made for the task and I dont want to accidentally download spy ware.
I'm really surprised not to find this question already on StackOverflow, but please point me in the direction of any similar questions if they exist.
I have the following questions concerning the differences between the four options:
What is the main difference between the four options?
Which of the above support int64_t or long long without suffix LL. I want a data type of the range 2^63 - 1
If your answer to my second question is not C(gcc 4.3.2) , whether the code I write in C(gcc 4.3.2) for C language will be valid in rest of the three options or do I have to modify something, then what will be those modifications.
Hi, I have this regex for getting the YouTube video ID:
(?<=v=)[a-zA-Z0-9-]+(?=&)|(?<=[0-9]/)[^&\n]+|(?<=v=)[^&\n]+
I get it from there: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2597080/regex-to-parse-youtube-yid
The problem is I get preg_match() Unknown modifier '[' warning.
I know I have to enclose the regex delimiters but I have no idea how to do this.
Any help?
I was wondering if someone can explain how can a rails application be balanced.
Two questions:
Does it even help having separate rails applications reading from the same database in the same dedicated server?
I understand Apache can balance load installing some extra modules? am i right? how can we accomplish this? (please provide explanation for dummies)
Notice the following result when I submit blank :title and :description fields
The validations are in the controller:
class Question < ActiveRecord::Base
validates_presence_of :title
validates_presence_of :description
And, the form is generated with those names:
-form_for(@question) do |f|
= f.error_messages
= f.label :title
= f.text_field :title, :size => 50, :onchange => remote_function(:url => {:action => :display_tag_suggestions}, :with => 'Form.Element.serialize(this)')
#suggestions
= f.label :description
= f.text_area :description
...
But, for some reason, only :title gets wrapped in the error div tags:
<form action="/questions" class="new_question" id="new_question" method="post">
<div style="margin:0;padding:0"><input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="6HQaiu1D0gBQcKw2pLeZP6Jvn0FSClPD5Sk9HwegzPg=" /></div>
<div class="errorExplanation" id="errorExplanation">
<h2>2 errors prohibited this question from being saved</h2>
<p>There were problems with the following fields:</p>
<ul>
<li>Title can't be blank</li>
<li>Description can't be blank</li>
</ul>
</div>
<label for="question_title">Title</label>
<div class="fieldWithErrors"><input id="question_title" name="question[title]" onchange="new Ajax.Request('/questions/display_tag_suggestions', {asynchronous:true, evalScripts:true, parameters:Form.Element.serialize(this) + '&authenticity_token=' + encodeURIComponent('6HQaiu1D0gBQcKw2pLeZP6Jvn0FSClPD5Sk9HwegzPg=')})" size="50" type="text" value="" /></div>
<label for="question_description">Description</label>
<textarea cols="40" id="question_description" name="question[description]" rows="20"></textarea>
...
I don't think that behavior is expected. The problem most people have is that it's wrapping things with divs, which won't display properly. My problem is that fields aren't being wrapped with divs to begin with!
I haven't made any (conscious) changes to how errors are handled, so I'm not sure why it's not working properly.
I know there are other questions regarding this subject, and I've looked at this question, but I'd like to see a little bit more discussion and information on both sides of this - is it a better practice to add a project to a solution and reference the project, or to add a reference to the .dll?
I was just reading http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1619930/how-to-check-users-leave-a-page earlier on when suddenly I thought of performing AJAX when user leaves the page to send analytical data back to the server.
Is performing AJAX on the onunload event a good or bad practice/implementation?
Is it possible to ignore deleted files in git? git update-index --assume-unchanged allows me to ignore modifications, but it still tracks deletions.
(This is similar, but I couldn't find where "John Doe" restated his question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/655243/ignore-modified-but-not-committed-files-in-git)
On my master page I have:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/default.css" />
I also have a page "blog.aspx" in the root directory.
I have the rule:
<rewrite url="~/blog/blog.aspx" to="~/blog.aspx" />
My questions are:
Am I meant to make all my links in my site point to blog/blog.aspx now instead of just blog.aspx where it is physically located
How is best to cope with the paths of the stylesheets etc now being messed up because they are one dir up?
Dear ladies and sirs.
I need to convert an array of bytes to another base, namely 85. In math terms the question is how to convert from base-256 to base-85 in the most efficient way?
This question is inspired by my previous question - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2827627/what-is-the-most-efficient-way-to-encode-an-arbitrary-guid-into-readable-ascii-3
Thanks.
I have an array of structs called leaders. The struct class looks like this, for contextual info:
class Leader < Struct.new(:rank, :user); end
Two questions:
How do I sort the array of structs by rank?
How do I sort the array of structs by rank and by user.created_at?
I just spent some time reading http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2768248/is-md5-really-that-bad (I highly recommend!).
In it, it talks about hash collisions. Maybe I'm missing something here, but can't you just encrypt your password using, say, MD5 and then, say, SHA-1 (or any other, doesn't matter.) Wouldn't this increase the processing power required to brute-force the hash and reduce the possibility of collision?
I'm building a new site that consists entirely of:
8-10 pages of static content that rarely changes (like once every few months or once every year)
An image gallery
Since I don't plan to be the primary maintainer of the site, I'd like to use a CMS with some security and a WYSIWYG editor so non-web-savvy people can tweak the site when necessary.
I started out using Drupal, but started wondering if it was overkill. So, two questions: 1) is it overkill? 2) What CMS would you recommend for a project this simple?
We're using Trac as the task management tool at the project we work in. However, Trac search is maybe not the most intuitive search out there, and we end up having multiple duplicates as the reporters can't effectively find if there already is a reported ticket of the question he or she found.
Stack Overflow's "Related Questions" concept is great and works magnificently! I was wondering if someone has heard of some similar plugin to Trac, or if you have solved this problem some other way.
I have these lines in my global.asax (basically because of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2469348/can-i-add-my-caching-lines-to-global-asax)
The thing I want to now understand is whether this code purely adds the HTTP headers to the page or does it also make .Net cache this page on the server for 300 seconds?
Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(300));
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public);
I asked a question earlier about ESBs written in Erlang or Java, and there didn't seem to be anything in Erlang, and only products in Java.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2453641/what-would-be-the-best-language-in-which-to-write-an-esb/2453683#2453683
I guess I find it difficult to understand why a language like Erlang has no such middleware products, especially seeing as it should be ideally suited to the job.
While there are lots of questions about coding style, beautifying, and enforcement, I haven't found any example C++ files that are used as a quick reference for style. The file should be one or two pages long and exemplify a given coding standard/style.
For example, the Google C++ Style Guide is a great reference, but I think a one to two page piece of code written in their style pinned to a wall would be more useful in day-to-day use.
Do any of these already exist?
I have a problem with "pairing" arrays into one (by index). Here is an example:
INPUT:
inputArray = [ [0, 1, 2, 3, 4], [2, 3, 5, 7, 8], [9, 6, 1] ]
OUTPUT:
outputArray = [
[0,2,9],
[1,3,6],
[2,5,1],
[3,7,chooseRandom()],
[4,8,chooseRandom()]]
Questions:
1) How to avoid out of range problem
2) How to write chooseRandom() to choose N neighbour
I'm using python but feel free to share your thoughts in any language.
function insertQuestion(form) {

//append rows into a table code, not needed for this question
}
....

function plusbutton(plus_id) {
// Set global info

// Display an external page using an iframe
var src = "previousquestions.php";
$.modal('<iframe src="' + src + '" style="border:0;width:100%;height:100%;">');
return false;

In the code above I am able to replace an image with another image when the if statement is met. But my problem is that when the image is replaced, it does not disable the on click event. My question is that when the image is replaced, how do I disable the onclick event onclick="return plusbutton();?
Could unbind click work in this situation. I don't want to use href=# because I don't want to include # at the end of the url
